Almost all portable devices come with crappy earphones that are nothing more than an insult to the buyer.
A thousand Indian rupees is about 16 USD, right? In my country, the only choice in that price range is the old, typical, Creative ep-630. Or with a little more money, it's successor ep-660.

Panasonic RP-HJE120E-S (Rs. 399) is one of the cheapest Pansonic offers, but has very good bass and clarity. So I would think the more expensive ones should be even better. Check on Flipkart.

that's what i'm trying so say.......i've got it in 750/- from ebay and its far better then soundmagic es-18 (bass is nthin compared to ep630, i've bought it dint like it so gave it to my brother). Even if you're willing to pay 2k you're not likely to find any better in-earphone then ep 630. The bass is very powerful and mids-lows are strong enough to be heard clearly. dont go for ep660 its overpriced and not better then 630. So dont think....go for it.

For proper advice, ask here:

Or better, head over to head-fi.

Sony is issuing crappier earphones now. Its quality is even worse than my 2011 Xperia Play's earphone!

Big companies always does't mean high quality sounds saying from experience..

I am a casual listener & not a bass freak, but I do listen to songs a lot, half the time on head phones. I bought a Sound Magic ES 18 (in the ear) few months back for 520 INR. I am very much impressed with its sound quality. They also give a carrying pouch with it .
Creative EP-600 & 630 also seem to have good opinion but I haven't used them personally. If you don't like in the ear type headphones, you can also think about Sennheiser HD 180.

I'd check out the Klipsch Image S4 or Image S4i (the only difference is the S4i has phone controls). I haven't used them myself yet but they're great from everything I've read and Klipsch makes fantastic products.
Thanks mate, will check them out.

No problem. Also, in case you're not using it yet I'd jump over to one of the kernels that include the VooDoo sound drivers. They make a world of difference in listening to music on the phone (there is a link to Netarchy's kernel in my sig)
Using that already..
I have a rooted standard NS (2.3.2, GRH78C) with Netarchys awesome kernel.
I had to go back to 1.1 because 1.2 was crashing the phone at every boot.
Sound is superb even through the packaged headphones.

You'll notice a huge difference with better ones, trust me. I tested the sound improvements through the stock headphones as well as a few of my high end pairs and there is a monumental difference.
First track I listened to was The Dandy Warhols - Nietzsche.... blew me away.. thanks again
might seem crazy, but i bought the bose MIE2 mobile phone headset, and the sound quality is friggin superb. the inline button works for pause/play/ff for all the apps music player, google listen, etc. and they are so comfortable. totally worth it, but costs 130 dollars. best thing i did for my phone though
Am I the only person who cant hear any difference with or without the voodoo audio tweaks? I use Sony MDR EX 300 headphones and have done for a while.... (they are awesome imo)

I've never been a fan of the sound reproduction of Sony headphones.
Here is a quote from a review of those headphones
The sound has all the traits of Sony in-ear earphones. It's no secret that average-quality dynamic transducers with an ill-designed resonance cavity don't make for mind-blowing performances.
The lack of balance is highly audible, with mediums and high frequencies that are well defined but a bass that's too strong and not very well contained. The overall definition suffers as a result and makes the sound feel a bit invasive.
Thankfully, they're much better than the kind of headphones typically supplied with portable music players, and this model is fine for anyone looking for a decent starter pair of in-ear headphones.
So long as you can find them sold at a decent price (the RRP is way too high) these headphones are a great model for anyone who wants to try out a pair of in-ear headphones. Look past the low-end packaging and a sound quality that could still be better, and these headphones have everything you need to get started.

Also, to the OP just to add a few other options...I'd forgotten about this website:

Interesting quote. Thanks. But I like them, so each to their own I suppose.
Still, I can't hear the difference when using the Voodoo audio tweaks and I seem to be alone in that.

I haven't used those specifically, but I have used a pair of Etymotic HF3s and a pair of iBeats or something like that (my wife's). Both have controls and only the controls on the Etymotic ones worked.

I apologize, I hope you didn't take my post as an attack on your headphones, I was merely trying to inform as to a possible reason why the difference is not readily apparent. I can confirm that there is a difference and that the quality of the headphones being used does effect it (I've tested 4 pairs of headphones both with and without the tweak).

No, its cool. I spent £30 on headphones - they are not going to be as good as a £100 pair! At the price at least, I stand by em! I will try it with my Sennheiser PXC-300's tomorrow and see if I can hear it.

Cheap in-ear buds better or just as good as Sennheiser CX300 II?

I've owned 2 pairs of Sennheiser CX300, the I and the II and I've been terribly happy with them, until this morning when my 3-year old CX300 IIs said bye bye. One side went mute and there seems not to be anything wrong with the cable... twisting an turning it all along its length does nothing. On the way to work, this morning they worked fine, as did they every day for the past 3 years.
Now they pretty much died so I need new earbuds.
What would you recommend for replacement, under $40, cheaper the better?
I found these Panasonic earbuds for very cheap at a local store and reviews are pretty good. But the price being so low - I can get them for $8 - makes me a bit skeptical of their quality.

i do use a pair of skullcandy jib, i've bought them for about €9.99, and i use them woth the EQ set on "raise trebles" or whatever is in english (i'm from .it XD)
don't know, i'm fully satisfied, maybe you'll find a fit with them
Best way is always to test each set before buying, although it is becoming increasingly difficult even on more expensive equipment. Some more information on your preferences would help though. Open or canalphones, bright/flat/bassy, etc.
In general though, the Yuin PK2 or PK3s for open sets and i've heard nothing but good from the Brainwavz M1/M2 for canalphones as all-rounders. Do some research and if possible listen to them with your phone, the best way to find out which set you like best.
There isn't much good for less than what those cost, so probably your best bet.
Yeah, I should've provided more info.
I'm looking for in-ear buds, with those silicone/rubber things that mold to your ear canal. I love how they isolate outside sounds and I find them very comfortable. Soundwise I'd like them to be as flat as possible.
Regarding trying them out... there are very few stores here that would let me open a sealed box to test the speakers so that's why I'm asking instead of just going shopping.
Also I don't care all that much for volume/play/skip controls on the cable... actually I rather they don't have any.
I personally have the CX300-IIs so i know what you're after (they have a very nice sound for the price, comfort and durability, and slightly bassy just how i like it), though i too don't have anywhere nearby to audition so i can't help you with the specific sounds of alternatives. Don't know how much products would cost you either.
There is however alot of great information that you can find through forums like headfi and hydrogenaudio. There is one retailer in Aus that has also been alot of help for me and many i know in choosing equipment, so you can also have a look at the descriptions, recommendations and forum posts over at Headphonic. One of the most objective places on the net for headphones, though just remember it is still essentially a retailer.
IMHO the CX300-II are nothing near "flat". But if you like boomy bass, warm sound signature, but with a better sound quality, try ViSang R02.

Thanks, but as I said previously I'm ruling out anything that colors the sound too much and "boomy bass, warm sound" is exactly that.
In this moment, I'm using 'that' panasonic earbud. It's just awesome, for this price it's the best. If I will ever buy another earbud, it's because it doesn't have a mic. For music, it is perfect. Oh, and don't forget to use Voodoo sound! I also flashed HTC's Beats audio btw...
The CX300s are definitely not flat, they do push more towards a warm, slightly boomy but not overpowering sound. Whether it is similar to the Alpha-series Brainwavz i wouldn't know.

Lol nevermind, it's subjective anyway
I don't own the cx300-II, but from what I've read they aren't the best headphones for flatness. Actually, I think they are known to appeal to bass lovers.
I'd say get the "Soundmagic e30" for budget and "Hifiman RE-0" for something a bit pricier. personally, I really like the energetic sound offered by my Klipsch S4's though they are definitely not flat.
I absolutely love my Beta Brainwavz. They're pretty cheap, and the quality is good. I've had mine for over a year and some, and they've only been getting better the more I burn them in.
I use Bose IE2 and it is really good except for one thing, price. It seems to be too expensive. It sure has a quality that matches it's price but it may be too expensive for most people.

Klipsch Promedia can be had for under $40 if you check Slickdeals, etc.
Got mine on sale from Tigerdirect a while ago for $25.
They are relatively unknown which is a shame because they are the exact same thing as the more popular and expensive, S4/S4i model. They use the same drivers.
For the price you can't do better.
If you are willing to go over the ear route, Koss Portapros are the budget cans to get.
Hope this helps.

For music i would solely recommend buying Sennheiser MX 260 at this price range only if you can get it somewhere. I have personally used them and the company is one of the best manufacturers of ear buds. Also on a higher side of price around Rs. 1100 i can recommend Tekfusion Twinwoofers, but the trebels with these are a little on a higher side. And if you really want top notch performance better than those big around the ear spearkerphones then go for Sennheiser MX 760 (around Rs 1800, but worth every paisa). With 760 i can guarantee that you can beat any other phones. And if you just want to use handsfree from any other brand then get original handsfree for htc devices. HTC produces really good quality music devices for their phones. Worst of alll sound producing devices are samsung. Even if you buy galaxy s2 the sound quality is not even half as good as our ideos x6, i have personally tested this with my cousin who has an s2. With this also consider PowerAMP app. Tonnes of settings to fine tune the music experience. Currently i think you can only get them at ebay because sennheiser seems to have discontinued both of them, but be careful at ebay you may not get original product.

Yes i also agree have used Samsung pop ear phone, LG ear phone (it is same for p500 and other better phones like Optimus black, and also used schienizzer basic low price ear phone (bought from Karol bagh for Rs.350, after lot of negotiations)
I'm my opinion
Samsung was fair,
LG is best value for money
And scheinizzer was good but fragile( unfortunately i broke it partially and then lost it)
So my opinion LG was best.

For music I recommend Sound Magic ES-18. Bought for 400 in homeshop18.com around 4 months ago. If you want best quality music for reasonable price I always recommend sound magic headphones. This was my second pair. I used the previous pair for just more than a year. It had taken a lot of beating. Accidentally I put it in my laundry and still worked after being dried. Don't hesitate to buy because its Chinese. Its one of the best. You can buy with confidence
PS. I wrote this post even at the risk of sounding like an advertiser But guys I really love them that much. Its got 9mm drivers, gold plated Jack, and the frequency response is really flat with extra loud sound - even at the lowest volume I have to reduce the equalizer because sometimes. Its that loud!! After using these headphones when I used my transcend mp3 ones, they felt like crap :what: .... The same headphones would cost u around 2000 if it were sennhieser or any other brand.

Hard to believe? I know. But they are. Sennheissers makes professional audio equipment at good price. The sennheiser HDs are actually DJ class headphones. The reason you dont think they are value for money is because the range starts steep for consumer headphones. But they make B&O and BOSE class headphones. Not like Sony or Panasonic.

I prefer apple earpod. It's excellent, but it costs around 2100 INR. The effects and Design is excellent. You won't feel any heat or pain in ears. The bass effect is amazing.
Only one disadvantage: Although it has Mic, its not supported in our devices. So u can't use to respond a call. I personally prefer to hear songs, so I use.
Yes, ultimately the decision is yours to pick up the nice one based on your budget and need..!!

I use both...i personally prefer sony though.

Sony MH-EX300AP- Hit or Miss??!!

Hi all, the Z and ZL comes with a MH-EX300AP range of Earphones. Sony claims that it handles rich bass and is a premium one designed exclusively for the Z and ZL. Does it proves what Sony claims? My opinion is that it gives a respectful and a decent job compared to many stock ones provided! But what do you guys think? Do you use them or have a separate buds/cans? Post your opinions below. If you have been using the stock ones, tell us how do you feel and how it's performance were according to you, was it up to your expected mark and such. You can also mention some great earphone-headphone combos that goes with the Z/ZL well and which you've been using.:good:
BTW I am using my Klipsch Image S4 with Z, they literally rock with walkman!
This might help someone who are in the lookout for decent pair of buds/cans for Z/ZL
i just bought mw1 bluetooth wireless headset pro and I'm loving it....
headset is really good loud music volume and good basses !! also it shows sms on its screen and reads if want to hear, also I can read titles of my mails from heatsets screen too. and one more thing that you can do is to see calls log list of your device and call anyone from that list without touching the phone
now I don't need to open my phones flaps at all I have charging dock and if I want to upload some files to phone I just use airdroid and works like a charm.
Sound is great when they are in but The buds aren't working for me I can barely move with them in so I'm getting some over the ear NFC ones next month.

Great, how much did you pay up for those??!!
On my second set of buds now and not much better, unless there are extra large buds I can buy I can't be dealing with them. Might go give them to my mother with the last set as they are meant to be worth £55.

its 87 us dollars on ebay with free shipping, and the shipment was really fast, I got it a week after purchase, it travelled from hongkong to Turkey
I really like the headset :good:
They are nice sounding buds, but far too quiet for my tastes.
I tend to use my rha 450i instead as they have a pretty stunning sound, don't cost the earth, and are a lot louder

Yes they are, in India Sony gave up a cheap pair of Headphones which don't actually sound at all when compared to the one given in UK! So when compared to those and those stock ones which came with my arc, these sound better must admit. Lack of volume button is a glaring omission though!

Though thinking of buying those soon! A bit on the costlier side, but worth it!
They are excellent for bundled headphones, but they are so unbelievably quiet.
I find them crackly/distorted and way too quiet, but they do have good bass if not overpowering bass. Sticking with my Shure buds though, better clarity

They are quite though, but they never sounded distorted to me!
I made a little comparison with my other 3 sets . I'm using pureXaudio v4, with Noozxoide musicFX ,
MH-EX300AP
They're not bad , actually very nice to listen to , but way too quiet. I find them comfortable to wear ,and good fit if i switch left-right HP, and lead the cables behind my ears. Bass is ok, nothing special, but atleast it's not overpowering the higher frequencies . MIdrange is the best part of them i would say. They don't respond that well when changing settings in noozxoide mfx. You can't hear much difference between effects
Sennheiser CX300-II
If you're in search for relativly cheap upgrade from stock sony one's, i wound say this is a way to go. Loud enough ,out of the box they are to "boomy", but by clicking the "soft clipping compressor" option in Nmfx gets them similar sounding to sony one's , but with much better bass response. You do get clearer sound in sony mx-ex300ap.. Those of you that are bass hungry would be very satistifed with them .
NCredible NErgy by Monster
Complete opposite to CX300-II,and much louder that ex300ap. . Bass is not their strong side(better that sony thought),, but voices are a real joy listening to. If your into rock and easy listening , these one are for you . Downside ? Pricey and you'll often find yourself dialing down the treble .
Sennheiser IE80
You can't really compare them to the others ,cause they can sound like whatever headphones you would like them to be , Louder than any IEM's i have ever tried , and even thought the bass is stronger than on cx300, it's not overwhelming ,and you can always hear vocals and background stuff loud and clear .(oh ,and the price bit, but i got them for like 300$, so i don't regret any $ spend . So ,if you really want to change your experience on listening to the music on portable devices, get one of these if you find a good deal
They might not be the best but they're certainly the best earphones I've ever got bundled with a phone. For me there's is no need to change them as they satisfy my needs perfectly. Period.
PS. I am going to buy SBH20 bluetooth headset and use EX300AP with it though.

A rather good comparison, how much does SE IE 80 cost anyway? A cheap deal would be better!

They range on ebay from 350$-500$, but i would rather look up for them is some local store, and get extended warranty if possible .I have 5years on mine I got IE80 after 2 warranty claims on ie8 in short time(they were discontinued) . Those happened while i was having nokia e72, so i think there was something really wrong with output connection on nokia, as they also messed up another pair of cx300. 3 years ago this headphones were much cheaper (almost 200$), so that's the reason i got mine for under 300$.

Search Google for head-fi forums/audiophile forums . They have threads with comparisons and testing. I have read ( dont remb which forum) a thread in which they compared about 100-200 heads/in ears ranging from cheep china ones to akg's 1800$ kid!!! . Seriously most of the stock in ears that comes with phones lacks the juice. I own 3 headphones and 5 in ears. And none of them are stocks that comes with phones. I also have a beats in ear which comes with htc( i think its a over rated adv) . And a nokia in ear ( i re-wired it to suit my htc/computer. I use it for sleeping coz its flat cable is much more stronger , and wont break easily if i sleep over it.. , also it sounds enough for its price). A samsung one( broken cable), an old Sony Ericsson hpm 70( my fav one at that time, still i keep them). Enough story!
My fave is xba 4 sony . Cost almost 8000 Indian rupee!!! ( lol that was a tight one for some fresh engineer, it was about ⅓ of my salary!!!) . And i earned my passion for now, future plan is an AKG with a tube amp for it.

I was shocked when I learned that these headphones doesn't have volume controls !!
After doing some search I found that there's no standard for volume controls, so headphones should be design for specific devices only.. there's no standard even between Android devices from different companies, IE Samsung headphones volume controls does not work on Sony mobile phones and so on ( I've checked Note 2 headphones on Xperia S, audio is okay, answer key is working but not volume keys )...
I think that's why Sony is not thinking seriously with these volume keys even for a good bundled headphones like these... but this problem should not stop them I think it will be better to use Apple standards as Sony already have some products that are iPhone compatible and in the same time there's a huge market of headphones that are made for iProducts, they just need to support it in their devices.. unless there's some legal things and if Apple want some licensing thing for such silly thing then no... but if there's nothing then what ever is popular is good
The only thing I can think that will be compatible with all devices is to use a stereo bluetooth headset...
