[Discussion] Slimport HDMI improvement and issues on Android 4.3 - Nexus 4 General

Since I have plugged in my Nexus 4 to the TV I noticed new stuff such has now it is not forced on landscape, more FPS in the OS makes it seem smoother on the TV, image and sound quality has been improved.
The only issues is that since Android 4.3 on YouTube while watching a video there is a blue block graphical glitch which only shows up on the TV, I do not know if it is an issue with the Slimport HDMI Adapter itself.

I have this issue too, it's a regression, I'm not impressed.

I'm on stock 4.3 tried JW- Faux and Franco kernels, both give me no problems whatsoever. However YouTube still uses S/W playback Try playing something with H/W encoder.

Apparently you can use VPlayer with YouTube links so you can watch YouTube videos using a H/W encoder.

[Q] Flash 11 slower than 10.3

Anyone notice that after updating Adobe Flash to 11 from 10.3 video playback seems more choppy?
I can barely play 480 line videos now.
I use 10.3.185.25. It's the only one that will play online video using cm7 based roms
11.1 can play on miui, but have several problems , even with 10.3, adobe and flash sucks

Where can I find that version ?
I'm now using 10.3.186.7, downgraded and haven't looked back.
Sure, its not the greatest but 11 is total ballz.
Just do a search for "Adobe Flash 10.3 apk" eventually you'll hit x.186.7
The best version for me is com.adobe.flashplayer.v10.2.157.51.apk. But I still can't play 720p videos smooth, on youtube from browser. Can somebody help with that? if it's possibile.

Your device wouldn't benifit from playing it in 720 so wtf would be the point, best your small screen would do is 480.

There is a diffrence is in the coding i think. 720p looks better eventhough the screen is only 480p.

Lol....no.
@Forforce when you connect via hdmi the image is upscaled very well you would not notice the difference between 480 upscaled and 720 besides that the roms that do support 720 flash in the browser still don't do it very well so performance will still be choppy and isn't worth using 720 over 480. Maybe ICS will change somethings and support it better but i doubt it.

I've always wondered why people would wanna play movies with resolutions that exceed the resolution of the mobile display itself... You would get better picture quality playing a video on the device native's resolution. And of course reduce the load on the CPU saving battery....
Yup S Advance can only view what it shoots. 720P.

1080P lags horribly,720p is enough atleast here, very clear.

For who suggests to enable force gpu rendering, thanks but it doesn't work. Even restarting the phone.
For who wonder why I try to play a 1080p on s advance its why I have a friend with a samsung S II and another with samsung S III and if they send me their camera video via Bluetooth, my Samsung S advance play only audio! Ok I pay less I get less but its really so different hardware? I wonder why? Gpu, codec, a simple boolean switch.
Please someone that wonder less and know more.

Buddy it's your lucky day... i have been in shoe's for a long time and got fed up by the suggestion that "why would i want to play 1080p on a 4 inch screen" why don't people get the question i was asking them about ''how to play'', not about will it look great on my screen...
any way after trying about a dozen player i finally got to play 1080p using dice player:laugh:
i played many 1080p videos with medium to high bit rates...hope this will work for you...
Ps: in dice player the videos are shown to be HW decoded but playing them will make your battery back up/charge drop like "Turkey's in thanks giving" Damn i always wanted to use that line:laugh:
Hit thanks if i helped you..and help others who are in need of it

Try BS player. Working great for me.but sometimes u will get only audio, no video, but when u try to play it again, it will play.

Video players crashing after 4.3

Someone, could you please suggest me a good video player for 4.3.
I was using Dice player till date. It crashed after update. So went behind MX and it did the same. Could you please suggest me a good video player which is running good!?
Thanks in advance.

One of my .mkv-s yesterday:
BS player - no sound, no matter what setting I choose
Vplayer - audio out of sync, SW decoding only, nearly burned my hand, CPU was constantly at cca 97% usage
Latest VLC nightly - plays nice, sync ok, around 45-50% CPU usage on default settings, 25-30% when in HW decoding mode...
How about Diceplayer? Support Android 4.3 . It seems no problem to play video file.
Yeah, I too was a big MX fan until I updated to 4.3. I'm sure MX will be updated soon. I am using BS for the time being.
anyone try moboplayer with 4.3 yet?

What's the deal with MHL and all these Kernels?

Hi guys,
I recently upgraded to Android 4.3 using the latest InsertCoin Rom and I was delighted to see that it was finally outputting 1080p video (all previous roms did so at 720p) at 24fps.
So I went and downloaded the Elemental X kernel because it says in the description that they increased the MHL refresh rate. To my surprise, my phone was once again outputting 720p video!
Next, I decided to test out the Bulletproof Kernel, and what do you know, it still outputs video at 720p.
Are there no Kernels or adjustments that allow video outputs of 1080p at 30+fps over mhl?

60 fps video recording?

Maybe this is just my imagination, but 1080p video recording on 4.4.1 seems to be smoother than 4.4 by an order of magnitude. It's darker than before, but If I'm not mistaken, it appears to be recording at 60 fps (which is a feature of the Snapdragon 800). Really cool and interesting.

I haven't looked at the EXIF data so I could be wrong, but give it a shot - it's waaaay smoother than before the update. This phone has a SOC that supports 1080px60 recording, so it's not outside of the realm of possibility.
My video recording seems broke now,. Pressing the red button doesnt do anything within the camera app any ideas? Cleared cache dalvik and camera app data. Photos are working fine however

Video recording remains [email protected] It's been improved so it doesn't drop frames as it did before the update.

Make sure you're on a stock 4.4.1 kernel. I was on Franco r17 and had this happen also.

Yep, MX player is unsupported on 4.4.1 at the moment. Found "BPSplayer free" and when tapping on info button shows that my video recordings are averaging around 30fps with 4.4.1. It looks much smoother to the eye and preforms extremely well for a smartphone. But no 60fps based on these results.

Well, correct you are. Disappointing, but still a huge improvement.
I really dont understand why Google chooses not to leverage the hardware they put in their devices. Our phone is capable of doing both 1080p60 and 4k30, but it supports neither.

Considering how well this update looks and performs on the N5 camera/video, I can see why one would think it was 60fps. I wouldn't be disappointed. I'm impressed.

I'd imagine it has to do with proprietary binaries from Qualcomm. Android likes everything to be open source, with access for all of us to modify/tinker, but putting all their special "tricks" which may not exist on other platforms (exynos, mediatek, etc) into open source code would potentially allow competitors to reverse engineer their methods. If you're familiar with Nvidia graphics cards on Linux it's the same thing. You can use TRUE open-source graphics drivers that are essentially terrible (no gpu video acceleration for video playback) but have source code available for, or you can use the proprietary NVIDIA drivers that arrive as binaries, no source code, but everything works perfectly on with great performance. They do this so ATI can't reverse engineer their drivers, essentially. There's also the possibility that Qualcomm charges based on which features they enable (they did this WAY back in the day on the HTC Mogul, not including hardware graphics acceleration drivers because HTC didn't want to pay extra).
I also noticed that right away much smoother video! +1 here
