[Q] Use C6616 modem Z and get AT&T LTE? - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

meant model Z.........So I just read about this model and see it has AWS and 700 Mhz for LTE - does this mean if I get this phone it will work on AT&T LTE in the U.S? Anyone tried this yet?

also.....Negri Electronics has a unlocked Z Tmobile in black that says it has 700Mhz and AWS LTE bands but they say it can only be used outside U.S. (they list it as international) that AT&T would block it? WTF over?

i dont think at&t will block it. if it supports the at&t lte bands it will get lte but there are multiple lte bands for at&t so if it only supports one of them lte will be spotty depending on the area the phone is used in

Yeah, I don't know......I chatted with a rep there and all he would say is that you cannot use this in the U.S. - I asked if this is because tmobile has a contract w/ Sony and he said I'd have to ask Sony about that. It almost seems like that is what they have to say - but i'm wondering if it would work.

Yeah, but are they getting LTE? Why the hell Sony chose to release the ZL with AT&T LTE frequencies but not the Z (at least not officially) is beyond me......

probably the same reason it took 6 months for tmobile to get it(which is the the one i have)

I already tried flashing 6616 baseband. Unfortunately, it doesn't have 700 band LTE. It is from Bell, even though they state that their 6616 has AWS and 700.
I'm currently using 6506 baseband but I can't get access to at&t LTE network.

Lost Reception+Data Connection on Rogers Network

Hey guys
I got XZ C6603 today from handtec. I activated brand new LTE simcard at rogers store and set up lte apn.
Soon as I did that data connection rapidly changing from h+ to 3g for a while then drop the data connection and phone reception as well.
Seems like lot of ppl here in Canada having trouble getting LTE connection but I am having hard time getting my phone reception and H+ connection.
I'm not sure either XZ is defect or this phone is simply wont work with Rogers.
Any solutions?? or should I just return the phone back to handtec?

Go into network settings and network mode and change it to only WCDMA(preferred)/GSM.
3G and HSPA+ work flawlessly so keep it on those instead.
Basically the phone keeps searching for an LTE network but can't connect so it'll keep switching between the network modes.
I'm hoping there's a solution to this soon, because the Z can actually find the Rogers LTE network but can't connect for some reason.
Probably a work around fix that can be done. :good:

HSPA+ will probably be unpredictable on a regional basis - many North American carriers use UMTS1900 and the 6603 does not support that band for HSPA+ operation.
6603 will not operate on LTE in any band in North America I'm aware of.

You are wrong,
Rogers does support LTE 2600
I would not use a phone on Rogers that can't get 1900Mhz but ... You should be able to use 2600 LTE. Have you entered the LTE APN ?

HSPA+ works fine where I am on my 6603.
People have been able to get LTE on theirs as well, depending on the region.

My LTE worked for an hour the other. I've read the 2600 band is a higher speed band, but it has weaker penetration and more sensitive.
Im beginning to think that you need both 2100 and 2600 bands for LTE to properly work in Canada since Rogers have both deployed simultaneously. Maybe Rogers need to improve their 2600 deployement in order for the XZ to work.

You need band 4 and band 10. Each frequency is used for different reasons (upstream/downstream). Just having 2,600 Mhz won't do anything. It's already been confirmed by multiple users that LTE doesn't work in North America (AT&T, Rogers, etc.)
That's why the C6603 wasn't released in North America.
The leaked C6606 model should support it, as well as the ZL. (http://playstation.com/psm/certified.html)

Then how does the optimus g on rogers use lte 2600? The optimus g 2600 on rogers only have lte band 700/2600 according to rogers website. This is the first carrier phone to use the 2600 network I believe

Because it uses 2,600 Mhz (band 7) for the downlink and 1,700 Mhz (band 4) for the uplink (even though it doesn't list it in the specs).
(Going into the Service Menu on the Optimus G shows off its full band support.)
Without the appropriate uplink AND downlink support, LTE will not work.
Rogers has LTE deployed on bands 4, 7, and 10.
The C6603 supports bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, and 20.

HTC One have T-Mobile hspa+?

Does the HTC One have hspa+ on T-Mobile? It doesn't have the 1700 band. I live in an area that doesn't have LTE but has hspa+ and hasn't refarmed the 1900 band so I would be stuck on 2g in this case?
Yes, you would be stuck with edge (2g) until the reframed network is live. Purchase the device from T-Mobile, it will have the 1700 band

of course the tmobile version will have the 1700 band. why wouldnt they? they dont want people be on 2g speeds now...
You probably looked at the dev edition (which is a att version).
Problem with TMobile phone is the 32gb ;/
I would love to get my hands on 64gb HTC One but it doesn't have the hspa+ aka 1700 band
Now I have been told you might be able to flash a radio but it has yet to be confirmed whether this is really possible or not.
Sadly I will be force to buy a S4 because of this issue. Unless someone can confirm hspa+ radio can be flashed on Dev Edition

I really hope someone creates a mod to Enable the Tmobile AWS band on the Unlocked HTC One, similiar to what they did for the ATT Galaxy Note 2. These high end phones have the hardware to work on the the various gsm frequencies, but they come disabled. Someone was able to figure it out on the galaxy note 2, but I have been searching and I don't see anyone working on a similiar solution for the HTC One. I guess time will tell. I've ordered an unlocked HTC One, and will test to see if I get 4g LTE in Chicago which is listed as a 1900 refarmed area. The consensus seems to be that if i'm in an area that does not have 4g lte i'll be reduced to 2g Edge speeds. This my friends...would suck donkey balls.

Same here. I ordered the unlocked ONE. I live in Houston which is refarmed 1900 also with lte. Had I known my dam phone would be delayed again I would have just waited for the tmobile version.

Your last statement about 4G LTE and 2G Edge speeds isn't necessarily true. I live in LA and we don't have LTE for T-mobile yet, however T-mobile has refarmed many of their towers around here to use the 1900MHz band so that you can get HSPA+ on phones that don't have 1700MHz support (like many AT&T phones and unlocked phones, like the HTC One Developer Edition). I received my HTC One Developer Edition today and drove around a bit here. While my phone doesn't have 1700MHz support, the screen still showed "H" for HSPA+ everywhere I went, and I tested speeds as high as around 9000kbps download. So being able to get 1900MHz HSPA+ is not tied directly to if an area has LTE or not.

I bought the Xperia Z C6603 in UK will it get 3g or 4g or let in NY, USA?

but can the Devs do something to make it work on 3g/4g with current hardware in the phone? or should I return and buy the phone when it comes in the USA?

I'm not sure about 3g, but I've heard that the 4g bands that the phone uses are different then being used in the States. So that won't work.

The reason is, according to T mobile
Depending on where a tower is at in the 4G life cycle, theoretical maximum download speeds range from 21 Mbps – 42 Mbps.
T-Mobile's HSPA+ network operates on the same band as our 3G network, Band IV, which uses 1700 MHz and 2100 MHz frequencies to transmit voice and data services. The 1700 MHz frequency sends information to cell sites and the 2100 MHz frequency receives information.
As with our 3G network, both 1700 MHz frequency and 2100 MHz frequency are required for a device to function. If a device only has one of these frequencies, it cannot use T-Mobile’s 3G and 4G networks.
T-Mobile is switching some 1900 MHz frequency from EDGE to HSPA+. This will allow devices that work on 1900 MHz, such as AT&T devices, to use our 4G network.
and yes,the Xperia z uses UMTS HSPA+ Bands 1, 3, 5, 8 which are
1 for 2100, 3 for 1800, 5 for 850 and 8 for 900
the HSDPA in T mobile are in the bands 1700 and 2100, just like the 3G, and the Xperia Z model c6603 uses bands 850/900/1700 only!!! the C6602 model uses the same bands plus /1900/2100 so, if you miss one band in T mobile you will never have the HSDPA speed, no matter the firmware,because is hardware
This info is according to Sony Official Page www.sonymobile.com, so as you can see you are missing one band, the 1700
Resuming, is hardware issue, and I dont think that the developers will be able to get 4G speeds or even HSDPA if the chip required is missing iin the c6603
c6602 is the only choice
Im currently have c6602 on tmobile and I can get h+ speed on it I did order c6603 and only get EDGE. You will have to set APN manually se the phone canlog into the network. Or u will have to get ZL since I heard that Xperia Z wont be distributed through any US carriers.

Will any of the International versions support AT&T LTE?

Essentially I am on AT&T in Chicago, I would love to buy an International edition this go-a-round. Get the updates faster and not deal with AT&T bloat. However I am curious if any country other than the US will carry a LTE variant of the Note III that will support AT&T LTE out of the box (with the correct APN settings) or am I stuck buying the AT&T version if I want access to their LTE network?

Im 99% sure the exynos processor would only receive 3g on ATT whereas the qualcom gets the full 4g LTE.

You are correct, the Exynos would get me HSPA only... I am hoping that countries other than the US will carry the Snapdragon 800 and that it would be AT&T compatible for LTE.

If its any help, my International Note 1 gets anywhere from 3Mbit to 13Mbit on HSPA+. I've tested with service from both AT&T (straight talk) and t-mobile now that t-mo has re-farmed the 1900mhz spectrum to hspa in my city.
Not sure how fast LTE is but probably at least twice as fast depending on congestion. The real question now is battery life between LTE version and exynos non LTE version.
And in my opinion, its very much worth having the international version. Big drawback though: NO samsung warranty in the USA. To some that might be an issue.
This has been discussed a lot. The international SD 800 variant, from what I understand, should be able to work on AT&T LTE. I guess we won' t know 100% for sure until someone in NA who uses AT&T orders the international SD800 and can confirm that it does work on AT&T LTE. As as this (and ability to root) is confirmed, I'll be ordering my N3.

To give you and idea...I avg around 70mbps down on lte and have been over 100 lots of times...ill see around 25-30 upload. big diff betwee lte and h+

I have a pretty good feeling that you cant flash different modems, the modem needs to match the device or else it will brick. But then again I could be wrong.

we have been doing that for some times already since Galaxy S2 and Notes and Blazer phones were released.
people have been flashing back and forth HSPA vs LTE radio back and forth without a problem.
The only gotcha is Battery drain rate is horrendous on non-native phones using the other radio
some ROMs managed to optimize this to one degree or another, but it's definitely not the same as using a phone that was originally made for that radio.
But the point is, it's do-able and it works.

^^^ this....... This seems to be the answer because of the locked boot on at&t's ....... So could I walk into a TMO store and tell them I wanna buy one for my prepaid sim.? That's probably what I'll end up doing. Looks like best buy will have the unlocked Octa.......

C5306 - No 3G/LTE on T-Mobile

I live in Sacramento, CA and it's supposedly a refarmed city, meaning it uses 1900Mhz spectrum on T-Mobile for 3G. So I bought a C5306 for my wife, however the 3G isn't working, all we get is EDGE. Naturally I thought I'd at least get LTE, since it's advertised as an LTE phone but I'm not getting that either, even though we have LTE in my area. What's the deal? Has anyone else had this issue? In the phone settings I have it setup to receive LTE/GSM/WCDMA in that order but it doesn't seem to help.
The 5306 claims to have the right bands...
HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
LTE 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100

Maybe you accidently got a c5303 i'm in the us for vacation and i bought tmobile prepaid but i only got edge on my 5303 because of the baseband

It's a 5306. Otherwise it wouldn't have LTE listed in the baseband options when you type *#*#4636#*#*
EDIT - I take that back, I guess the 5303 does also have LTE, but different bands. God I hope it's not a 5303, how can you tell? Different ROMs come from different bases and depending on the ROM you install it'll say 5306 or 5303. The stock ROM that came installed on it said 5306, but I installed another custom one and it now says 5303, ugh.
Holy ****, not only do I have the wrong phone, I think I was defrauded in the process. This is a 5303 that was sold as a 5306. The seller just flashed 5306 firmware on top to make it look like a 5306. The picture below shows that it has the 5303 bands (1,3,5,7,8,20) and not the 5306 ones (1,2,4,5).
Does it say C5303 at Model Info? Or on the Box? If yes get your bud to the store

It says whatever firmware you put on it. The C5303 and C5306 firmware are interchangeable. Hence why I think they can sell them as "C5306" phones. This was on ebay, by the way. The only way you can tell is to look at what bands the phone supports, which I did above, you do that by typing *#*#7378423#*#* in the dialer and then going to Configuration in the Service Menu.
i have a c5306 i checked the bands. Anyways i am using it on att and i get h+ but no lte any ideas?
