Any Decent N7 Chargers? - Nexus 7 Accessories

Can anyone recomend me a Nexus 7 charger? My stock charger has problems with very slow chargers, and most the time dont charge at all. At the moment i am using a old charger from a samsung phone but i find the connector very wonky where i have to wedge a bit of card next to the connector to keep it in place to charge. Also the cat has had hold of it so the wire is split down the center. Cheers.

I find the stock charger the best in the house, it's rated the highest (2A if I'm not mistaken)
Samsung cables don't fit well, they keep falling out
I got a Logitech charger with my mouse, and it seems quite high quality, but it's only 1A, and Nokia chargers should also be good, but thats only 1,2A I think.
Try a different cable first, I find it hard to believe that a charger would sometimes work, sometimes not, these things usually either work ok, or not at all.

Thanks, and yea tried a few the best one at the moment is the samsung one im using i just got to make sure i dont move the device or cable lol. The stock one only lasted a month or so. Full charge took about 15 hours where as the samsung one takes 2/3. I will brosw around on amazon and see what i can find.

Got one of these back in January, still going fine. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009ZSTXIS
It's gone up a couple of quid since I bought it.

It must've been faulty to begin with then. If you still have warranty, take it back, you should get a new one.

Hi:
I use the Caseen six foot wall charger:

Have a look here, probably one of the best and cheapest chargers around: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43329017
I'm very pleased with this purchase!

Adaptor to get a full charge from 3rd party chargers

Got this from the German Amazon site. 5 days shipping to UK.

Works with a 2 amp charger I have, no not charging symbol.
Will test later with laptop and Mac usb

Wait, so finding a 2 amp 3rd party charger isn't enough?
No, there is some circuitry in a branded Samsung Tab charger that tells the tab to pull down the full charge. A third party charger will work but very slowly and the tab shows a not charging symbol in the menu bar. This little adaptor in my first post fools the tab into thinking it is connected to an official charger.

Don't know. The package came in a jiffy bag with just the invoice and no other packaging so it's hard to do any detective work by manufacturer or product code.

I ordered a couple from the Amazon DE website a lot cheaper than Amazon UK, if you order more than one, even though you have to pay post and packing.
Nice find i just hope they work.
I don't read German so it was fun placing the order

Wish I'd bought two at the time. Now I have to pay another lot of postage.
It's charging now from my laptop USB. 5% in 10 mins so much faster than normal.
I have a couple of these data/charge cable on order, they seem to get a good review, they are cheap at only £1.60 each.
They take about 10-15 days to deliver, so dont buy if your in a hurry.

I bought a couple of 3rd party cables too. They seem identical to the original, minus the Samsung logo. You'll still need an adaptor like in my first post of you want to charge fast from usb or 3rd party chargers.

I dont want to go modding chargers, some are not easy to get into, also some device might not like the mod, it`s easier just plug in an usb adaptor , also+ , I am definitely not going to mod the ports on my notebook , when the usb adaptor work on your notebook too.

dunno with tabs, but i had an experience with blackberry which oftenly charge with 3rd party charger (for car) which caused ic charging damage. I had mili charger but haven't use it with tabs just because the original travel charger is so simple to carried out with
I received my usb/usb adaptor`s and they seem to work great with all my usb chargers and even with my notebook, though the data connection does not work.
There is no circuitry guys. Its a standard for USB charging where the data lines are shorted. I use my 1A HTC desire charger regularly and it works just fine. Just need to get a good charger.
What I'd like to see is something to let me charge and sync at the same time because often at work battery dies while I'm debugging.

Not Correct, I have been soldering the data lines together on my usb chargers for years to get my Sony mp3 to charge and non of these chargers will give me full charge mode, just trickle, now the usb/usb adaptor works great.

Have to agree here! I've several HTC USB chargers, and not one of them will do more than trickle charge my Tab unless I use one of these adaptors.

Is my charger junk?

I brought my 7 home Saturday at 33% charge, plopped down on the couch, plugged it in and started playing. The battery level slowly dropped. The charger WILL charge it, but only when it's idle and it seems slow as hell. I figured a 2A charger would have my Razr Maxx full in no time but in an hour it went from 40% to 50%. After completely draining my Nexus 7 I plugged it in and charged it at idle for 12 hours. When I looked this morning it was at 67%.
I'm assuming the charger is bad. I also have a different cable plugged in to it which I suppose I should try replacing first. But if this thing actually charges that slow I'd rather find out now than keep searching for a problem that doesn't exist.
Is it possible that your cable is an older one and can't handle the higher electric current? I read that this happened to people who used older cable to charge the Retina iPad as well. Don't know whether this is the reason.
The cable is one I got on ebay for $1. Entirely possible that's the problem. I'll try the OE cable tonight.
You should always use what the device shipped with. More than likely, that's the problem.

Well, I can't very well "use" a 3' usb cable. I hope you don't think you should buy $100 hdmi cables, too.
Nope, but most devices don't ship with HDMI cables. I've bought cheap cables online, but if my phone or tablet came with one I surely use it.
I've heard and seen people messing up their devices or having weird problems (like yours) from using a different cable and/or charger plug. So I always use what it came with. So many little nuances .

I definitely need a longer cable. Guess I'll just have to pony up for quality cables instead of these ones that ship from China.

Non-sense. Go to monoprice.com and you can get plenty of dirt-cheap cables that get the job done just fine. It sounds like you're currently using a 2-pin micro-USB instead of a 4-pin. The extra 2 pins are for data, as well as high-power charging for devices that pull more than USB's standard 500mA.

Doh.. I'll start by pulling out the multimeter when I get home. Or maybe just looking before I even bother with that.

All in one mhl adapter

Since there are a lot of knockoffs on ebay I thought I would come in with a pleasant surprise. I bought http://item.mobileweb.ebay.ca/viewitem?itemId=130783773578this expecting the worst and was pleasantly surprised at how well it works on my Note2. The only thing is the usb cord is not very long and you have to have it plugged in so that the phone is charging for it to work, but for the price is awesome.
I ordered one just like that off of ebay as well and it works for me too. They all have to be plugged in to power to work.
Well I learned something today. This is my 2nd Samsung phone and first experience with mhl adapter and didnt know it HAD to be plugged in. Thanks.
Thanks for the link.. at $12 it's a cheap enough gamble.
Can you detail where the length is lacking? Easy enough to add an extension for length?

The HDMI part of the cable is 6 feet like advertised but the usb power part is less than half that length. I have a usb extension cable somewhere but can't find it to try it :banghead:

That's what's posted up a bit and mine wouldn't work without power source. Learning curve lol.
One thing I did notice is that even with it plugged in and "charging" after a couple hours on watching you tube the phone dropped from 80% to 72% battery so not really sure if it's charging or if it just takes that much power. I was using the wall charger that came with my phone so it should have been getting the 2 amps.
I think this mhl cord probably only allows 500ma. Something I use to counter that is this
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nkahoang.screenstandby
It allows you to turn off your screen, because even on the lowest brightness it still eats up the battery.
Good thread. There are a couple on amazon like this as well
For those of you who shop at monoprice, their 11 to 5 pin adaptor is back in stock and they even bundle it with an mhl adaptor.
I can't link to it as I just registered here, but it's under accessories>cell phones

Decent USB cable in the UK?

Hi,
Can anyone recommend a decent USB cable for my sons N7?
Need to get a replacement, but the ones i currently have are not beefy enough to charge properly.

Same problem, can only find pathetic skinny fragile things.
I have used this cable without any probs
AKASA part no AK-CBUB05-10BK
bought from CPC order code CS20881
Try a flat ribbon cable, Amazon Uk have them http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb...onics&rh=i:electronics,k:flat micro usb cable Various lengths and colours. I use a standard 1.2mtr blue one that I bought last year.
I'm using Logitech cable for charging (got it with the mouse) and Nokia cable for PC (they are always connected, that's why separate cables), so get one of those.
I've only had problems with 3 years old Samsung cable because it kept falling out (it stays in on my SE phone)
I really doubt beefyness of the cable affects charging though. I charged my tabled on just about any cable I've found laying around in the house with no problems
The reason as to why your charge cannot keep up is most likely due to using a charger with lower amperage (i.e 1amp/1A).
As long as you purchase a 2amp charger and compatible usb cable, then you shouldn't have any more issues with draining the battery faster than it can be charged thanks to the 2amp charge rate.

Thanks for the reply guys, this is using the Asus charger that came with the device, just that the original cable split, so I need a replacement.
Have looked at the cables, might get one of the flat ones as they look good.

Paul.
Just to let you know I bought the flat ones and they fit and work really well.
Thanks for the replys all.

Trick is to get a short a cable as you can. The impedance really effects charging. The difference between my stock and a 6' cable is like a 60% drop.

Durable car charger?

I haven't driven in years due to chronic illness and since my wife has been using the car she's gone through over a half dozen car adapters!
I've tried official Samsung car chargers (two of them), one expensive one from Bell Canada, several that you plug a separate usb cable to and maybe three others that that were simply "generic car chargers"... they simply stop working after a few months and I don't know what else to do.
I'm in Canada so we have cold winters and fairly warm summers and we've tried leaving the chargers in the car all the time (which is what I've done in the past with out problems) and her keeping them in her purse and using it when needed, but they still "die" quickly.
What charger would you recommend for durability? I don't want to spend $50 on a charger, since replacing them every few months isn't an option, but I'll consider anything that works.
Thanks in advance.
http://www.amazon.ca/Anker-18W-3-6A-Car-Charger/dp/B00B8M4IMK/ - highly recommend.
Scosche best IMO
I have used Anker batteries and battery packs and they work well. Their car chargers though I've had issues with, as they never actually put out the output they claim to.
Now, I've used an earlier model Scosche charger from YEARS ago and it's still going strong. I recently upgraded to this one because it truly does put out 2 amps for my Note 2 so it will charge my phone WHILE I'm using it.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003N7NO4Q
Please keep in mind, the usb cable being used does play a HUGE part in how efficiently your phone will charge as well. I ordered the cables pictured here and they work like a champ. Yes, they are fake Samsung cables, but they work better than any other cable I've used for both data and charging.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001XXUOQI
Thanks. I will check out both recommendations.

I ended up getting the Anker charger... it comes with an 18 months warranty, so we'll see what happens. I'm sure if it was made of solid iron my wife could find a way to damage it somehow... she's also gone through a dozen AC adapters (I've never had to replace mine for any device in the last 15 years...).
Doesn't make sense. Could it be the phone or battery?
