Durable car charger? - Galaxy Note II Accessories

I haven't driven in years due to chronic illness and since my wife has been using the car she's gone through over a half dozen car adapters!
I've tried official Samsung car chargers (two of them), one expensive one from Bell Canada, several that you plug a separate usb cable to and maybe three others that that were simply "generic car chargers"... they simply stop working after a few months and I don't know what else to do.
I'm in Canada so we have cold winters and fairly warm summers and we've tried leaving the chargers in the car all the time (which is what I've done in the past with out problems) and her keeping them in her purse and using it when needed, but they still "die" quickly.
What charger would you recommend for durability? I don't want to spend $50 on a charger, since replacing them every few months isn't an option, but I'll consider anything that works.
Thanks in advance.

http://www.amazon.ca/Anker-18W-3-6A-Car-Charger/dp/B00B8M4IMK/ - highly recommend.

Scosche best IMO
I have used Anker batteries and battery packs and they work well. Their car chargers though I've had issues with, as they never actually put out the output they claim to.
Now, I've used an earlier model Scosche charger from YEARS ago and it's still going strong. I recently upgraded to this one because it truly does put out 2 amps for my Note 2 so it will charge my phone WHILE I'm using it.

Please keep in mind, the usb cable being used does play a HUGE part in how efficiently your phone will charge as well. I ordered the cables pictured here and they work like a champ. Yes, they are fake Samsung cables, but they work better than any other cable I've used for both data and charging.

Thanks. I will check out both recommendations.

Had the same issue for a while. This Duracell has held up well for me. It doesn't come with a cable, however.

I ended up getting the Anker charger... it comes with an 18 months warranty, so we'll see what happens. I'm sure if it was made of solid iron my wife could find a way to damage it somehow... she's also gone through a dozen AC adapters (I've never had to replace mine for any device in the last 15 years...).

Doesn't make sense. Could it be the phone or battery?

I wish. She's gone through three phones and two tablets and she always manages to break the adapters. I'm going to get her to pay for the next one. LOL ?

"KiDiGi" charging crade - Anyone tried this?

I've been waiting for the generic market to start making some charging docks for the Vivid. I just came across this on eBay. Has anyone tried one of these yet?
It's not a bad price at $30, but at only $10 or so cheaper than the HTC version I'm not sure I'm ready to bite.
Thanks,
-Brett.
looks pretty appealing for the price... give us some feedback if you get it!

I had a KiDiGi dock for my Atrix that had an extra battery slot and HDMI out. It worked perfectly and the extra battery slot was a great feature. I think I'll be getting this for my Vivid.
*Warning - Potential n00b content*
OP, that charger looks an awful lot like the RND power solutions dock (would post a link, but I'm a n00b, and cannot)
I took the plunge on the RND about a month ago for my office, versus the more expensive HTC one. It hasn't given me any issues, except that the LED's on the front appear to have no purpose (they are always on, phone on dock or not.) However, this is of little consequence to me, and I'm sure a more electronically inclined individual armed with a soldering iron and a little time could easily rectify this problem if they felt so inclined.
Just my .02
Just received this KiDIGi cradle along with this 2 battery deal and it cost me only 27 bucks.
The dock is nice and is exactly what I was looking for. 2nd battery charger was my main point.
I'm still testing the batteries but at 2 for $8 Im not expecting much, though they are 1800mAh.
The dock came from CA very fast and the batteries came from NY, also very fast. ~5 days each on free shipping.
I will report back on the batteries.
The Rnd cradle, which looks exactly like the Kidigi, can be found on Amazon for $18.99 and is listed as Prime.

FOLLOW-UP:
After using these 2 batteries for the past few weeks I feel confident recommending them to others. They perform equal or better than the OEM battery and they're 2 for $8 with free shipping (At least they were when I found them). No longer do I carry my charger every where, instead I bring these two and I can safely go 3 three days with heavy usage. And the KiDiGi cradle has also performed as expected. Charging both the extra battery, phone, and providing a data connection is all normal.
If you can get this battery deal from the source I previously posted on eBay, from Brooklyn NY, you should jump on it.
EDIT:
Looks like they upped the price of the batteries to $22, still woth it IMO since a single OEM battery is about the same price.

Thanks for that. I'm getting it now.
I don't have it but there is already a vid about this online. youtube.com/watch?v=4jwz6IK2gaY
No USB to HDMI adapter on it, which would of been nice.
I bought this one:
KiDiGi HDMI Output USB Desktop Charging Cradle for HTC ViVid Velocity (LCM-HTVV)
for my HTC Raider from 4ujulian on ebay, and it's great, however it doesn't charge the battery as quickly as a stand-alone charger. The HDMI function requires power from the usb cable that you plug into the wall outlet, which I suspect is the reason why the charge is so slow. But having HDMI out is cool and works simply - as soon as you put the phone in the cradle, it mirrors the phones display to the TV.
Here is a link to one of these units from the same seller:

Is my charger junk?

I brought my 7 home Saturday at 33% charge, plopped down on the couch, plugged it in and started playing. The battery level slowly dropped. The charger WILL charge it, but only when it's idle and it seems slow as hell. I figured a 2A charger would have my Razr Maxx full in no time but in an hour it went from 40% to 50%. After completely draining my Nexus 7 I plugged it in and charged it at idle for 12 hours. When I looked this morning it was at 67%.
I'm assuming the charger is bad. I also have a different cable plugged in to it which I suppose I should try replacing first. But if this thing actually charges that slow I'd rather find out now than keep searching for a problem that doesn't exist.
Is it possible that your cable is an older one and can't handle the higher electric current? I read that this happened to people who used older cable to charge the Retina iPad as well. Don't know whether this is the reason.
The cable is one I got on ebay for $1. Entirely possible that's the problem. I'll try the OE cable tonight.
You should always use what the device shipped with. More than likely, that's the problem.

Well, I can't very well "use" a 3' usb cable. I hope you don't think you should buy $100 hdmi cables, too.
Nope, but most devices don't ship with HDMI cables. I've bought cheap cables online, but if my phone or tablet came with one I surely use it.
I've heard and seen people messing up their devices or having weird problems (like yours) from using a different cable and/or charger plug. So I always use what it came with. So many little nuances .

I definitely need a longer cable. Guess I'll just have to pony up for quality cables instead of these ones that ship from China.

Non-sense. Go to monoprice.com and you can get plenty of dirt-cheap cables that get the job done just fine. It sounds like you're currently using a 2-pin micro-USB instead of a 4-pin. The extra 2 pins are for data, as well as high-power charging for devices that pull more than USB's standard 500mA.

4.2 amp dual usb car charger for simultaneously charging two Note 2's

"For those who are interested in car dual usb efficient charging"
I am using 4.2 amp dual usb car charger bought on eBay. Importantly, I can charge two Note 2's simultaneously where one is mostly on 100% brightness running Google navigation and slacker radio over bluetooth on at&t LTE network and other one charging while being used for light browsing, emails, calls etc. Dual charging is quick and comparable to stock AC charger.

Hope you sell lots of them.
I am not a seller, I am a technology enthusiast who regularly follows forum and few months ago when we both upgraded from S2 skyrocket and iphone 4S to Note 2, car charger issue started bothering me. I searched extensively for dual usb car charger with 2.1A + 2.1A output and narrowed down to two choices, one is sold by Kensington for ~$28 and other is the one I posted on eBay for ~$14. I ended up buying 2 from eBay so that I can have my both cars covered for cheap, whenever we are driving together. I wanted to contribute to forum by sharing this information long ago as I see everyday folks wondering about a good usb car charger, but I was just reluctant to register.

I've had mine for over a year with zero problems. But it does sound like there are QC problems, perhaps I just got lucky. I just ordered the Aleratec, it should get here today. I'm curious how it performs.

Yes. Could you please report back on your findings?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
Had a chance to test out the Aleratec. First off, it doesn't strike me as overly well made. It's not bad, just seems thrown together. There are some gaps where the plastic fits together, and it's pretty bulky. The rectangular part looks to be about 1 inch square by 2 inches long. There's a red LED that shows when the unit is getting power, but it's just stuck inside the housing so that it's hard to see in bright daylight and the whole thing glows lopsidedly at night. On the other hand, it does seem to perform roughly as advertised. I haven't tested it with a multimeter, but here's what we did.
On a 10 minute drive across town, I had my N2 plugged in with Navigation and music on. My son had his Droid DNA plugged in playing a graphics intensive game. Both phones charged a few percent in that time.
On a 30 minute drive to the next town, I had the N2 running Navigation and music playing through the internal speaker. My Nexus 10 was charging from the other port. The Note started at 86% and finished at 91. On the return trip I left my note plugged in but left music and navigation off. It started at 80% and ended at 95%. There was another N2 plugged into the second socket, but I didn't check it's stats.
So all in all it does a decent job charging two devices while they are being used heavily. I think you'd have a hard time losing charge while it was plugged in. But it looks cheap and I'm not expecting it to last a real long time (though it might, who knows.) Still, I'll probably buy another one or two for those long drives when my son's Nexus 7 is chewing through games and battery, I have latitude and music running on the phone, and there are at least a couple other devices in the car needing to stay topped off. For the price, I won't be overly disappointed if I have to replace them in a few months. Hopefully we'll have better quality options by then.
Thanks for the update. My main concern is JUST my GN2 while using GPS, streaming music from Pandora while connected via BT to my head unit. That's probably the Most electrical draw I can come up with. If it charges during all that, I'm sold.

Well, supposedly, the two outputs are largely independent. So I'd compare the performance of just my GN2 on it. On the half hour drive I was using Spotify playing through the internal speaker. But I was playing a downloaded list, not streaming data. I did have wifi enabled (I just leave it on) but not bluetooth. Navigation was on with voice directions.
We're headed on a 800 mile trip tomorrow and I can have my son play games on it while it has nav and bluetooth on, see if he can figure a way to use more power than this can output, but I won't be able to get back to you on that til at least Monday. He can also stress it with his N7 and my N10 running simultaneous games. We'll see.

I'm not fond of the reviews on that one. Also, only one of the ports is 2A+. It sounds like the other two are a bit over 1A at best. For my purposes the extra slot isn't worth the added bulk if I only get one 2A slot. But everyone's needs differ.

After using the Aleratec for over a week, I'd say it's a keeper. It's kept up with my son's N7, and with my using the GN2 as gps and mobile hotspot at the same time with sporadic phone calls at the same time. It also charged my N10 nicely. I did have one time when my Blackberry curve (work phone, ick) reported that it couldn't charge, but disconnecting it and reconnecting fixed that.
Again, this doesn't strike me as a particularly high quality or well-engineered piece of equipment, but it does seem to do what it claims. For the price, I'll be ordering a couple more.

Any Decent N7 Chargers?

Can anyone recomend me a Nexus 7 charger? My stock charger has problems with very slow chargers, and most the time dont charge at all. At the moment i am using a old charger from a samsung phone but i find the connector very wonky where i have to wedge a bit of card next to the connector to keep it in place to charge. Also the cat has had hold of it so the wire is split down the center. Cheers.
I find the stock charger the best in the house, it's rated the highest (2A if I'm not mistaken)
Samsung cables don't fit well, they keep falling out
I got a Logitech charger with my mouse, and it seems quite high quality, but it's only 1A, and Nokia chargers should also be good, but thats only 1,2A I think.
Try a different cable first, I find it hard to believe that a charger would sometimes work, sometimes not, these things usually either work ok, or not at all.

Car Charger Advice

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I have that too except I haven't used the charging ports yet.
I have an old car charger (micro USB plug to cigarette lighter plug) that works well with my M8. I'll post the name of it when I can [it's in the car ]. I got it at Best Buy for my old Vivid. Had it about 2 years so it's a keeper. I want to say it's a Rockfish but I'll post what it is when I can.
EDIT - It is a Rockfish
I bought the HTC Dual USB car charger off ebay, works flawlessly and charges the phone as quick as the wall charger, if not quicker. Thn=ink its a bit slower if you have two high end smart phones charging together though
