[ROM] Stock ROM version 4.10.708.1 CL344680 (901S) [4.4.2] - HTC Butterfly S

At last we have the 4.10.708.1 Sense 6.0 update for the HK version.
Unfortunately, this release appears to have some problems with the gallery and blinkfeed apps. For the best results, I recommend installing the previous version (3.06, linked below in this post) and applying the OTA update yourself.
Without further ado, here are the links!
Download link:
http://heh.sk/~johnny64/901S/dlxpul_stock_4.10.708.1_CL344680_release-keys.zip (MD5)
If you are S-ON, after installing the ROM, you also have to unpack boot.img from the zip and flash it using fastboot:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Verified to install without a problem on an S-OFF phone using the recovery built by @kairi_zeroblade in this thread.
For each of the available OTA updates, you can also find the actual OTA package, the firmware included within and the stock recovery for that version. If you want to flash the whole firmware package (including recovery, radio, kernel/boot and many other things), just grab the appropriate firmware.zip, rename it to PO68IMG.zip, put it into the root of your external SD card and reboot your phone into the bootloader – the update will be applied automatically.
URL: http://heh.sk/~johnny64/901S/OTA/
Old versions below.
Here's the 3.06.708.3 KitKat 4.4.2 update.
Before installing, take a moment to read this. This update introduces extended filesystem capability flags and SELinux labels. The installer in this ZIP tries to set them in the same way as the OTA update does, but in TWRP this fails, because the recovery doesn't have support for these kinds of metadata. However, setting the medatada is done as the last step, so even if it fails and the installation aborts, the ROM is still installed properly, just without this extra bit.
I repeat:
Read the installer messages. If it says "Done!" and fails afterwards, the installation is complete. If it fails before printing the message "Done!", then the installation is not OK.
The latest CWM Touch should give the best results, although I haven't tried installing it through CWM.
If you are S-ON, after installing the ROM, you also have to unpack boot.img from the zip and flash it using fastboot:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Download link:
http://heh.sk/~johnny64/901S/dlxpul_stock_3.06.708.3_CL315079_release-keys_SELinux.zip (MD5)
@Zarboz also made a ZIP of this version of the stock ROM, I'm told it contains some flavor of Superuser preinstalled:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8I81hbg3bIwOWNlZHBMUy1tanc/edit?usp=sharing
-----------------------
Just before Christmas we have a new stock ROM with Android 4.3 and Sense 5.5 available. Same as with previous version, the installer contains all preload apps, in addition, it also contains the HTC Notes app, otherwise it leaves /data as it is, so in case something does not work, remember to wipe data before installing.
Download link:
http://heh.sk/~johnny64/901S/dlxpul_signed_stock_2.21.708.1_CL288207_release-keys.zip (MD5)
-----------------------
This is an image of the stock ROM after installing the 1.23.708.3 OTA update. The installer also contains all preload applications (Flashlight, Calculator, PDF viewer and others). Other than installing / updating all preload apps, the package doesn't touch /data in any other way. If you need to wipe your data partition, do it before installing this ROM, otherwise you'll wipe your freshly-installed preload applications. (Note that some of them have been updated in the OTA, which means they differ from the APKs I posted separately.) Does not contain the Notes OTA update, it should ask after first boot.
Here's the download link:
http://heh.sk/~johnny64/901S/dlxpul_signed_stock_1.23.708.3_CL241753_release-keys.zip (MD5)
-----------------------
Made from a dump taken from my 901S just after unlocking the bootloader, pure preinstalled stock ROM, no root, no mods of any kind. Only contains /system and kernel+initrd, doesn't touch /data, /cache or anything else. If you want a clean state, wipe your phone before or after installing.
Download:
http://heh.sk/~johnny64/901S/dlxpul_signed_stock_1.11.708.1_CL215607_release-keys.zip (MD5 here)
The ROM is also available as a TWRP backup:
http://heh.sk/~johnny64/901S/stock-901s-twrp-backup.tar (MD5 here)
For those interested, I also made a backup of the original internal storage ("sdcard") before unlocking which is available here (MD5). It should be pretty close to the original state, though I did run a few apps there to get a feeling of the device.
Last but not least, there were certain applications preinstalled in the /data partition which gets erased completely when unlocking. I managed to find out which ones they were and back up their APKs. The APKs are located at http://heh.sk/~johnny64/901S/preload/. To install them, create the directory /data/preload on your device and push the APKs in there using adb or something. The apps should appear after a reboot. Most of them are probably not very interesting (since they are for news from the HK area), I was mostly interested in the calculator, flashlight and PDF viewer, but I backed them all up anyway, so suit yourselves.

Well, the file is a tar archive. You have to extract it into TWRP/BACKUPS/<your phone's serial number>. The backup itself consists of multiple files, I just made a single archive for easier downloading.

I don't really understand your question, but I'll try again and slower this time. (-;
First, extract the archive on your phone, any decent file manager app should be able to do that. You'll notice the archive contains one directory named 2013-08-22--21-11-59. This directory contains a bunch of files.
Next, look up your phone's serial number in settings -> about -> phone identity. Navigate into TWRP/BACKUPS on your SD card and check if there's a directory with the same name as your serial number. If there's no such directory, create it.
Finally, move the 2013-08-22--21-11-59 directory into the one you just created.

Okay, now I don't understand your question. Did you try to restore the backup and it failed with an error? If that's the case, then I'm afraid I won't be able to help you. Anyway, you might want to post the exact error message you're getting in case someone else would be able to help you out.

any idea how to backup stock recovery? im about to unlock my phone but not sure if I will be able to backup stock recovery.

It is hosted on a Raspberry Pi sitting on a shelf in my campus room. It should have 100 mbit connectivity. I noticed in the HTTP server logs that a lot of people are using downloaders which open more than 20 connections in parallel, some go even as high as 50. Since it is a really weak machine, I limited it to 5 parallel connections. If you're trying to download with such a tool, try to crank it down a little bit.

How do i install files onto my phone?

Sorry for the generic title buts its difficult to write exactly what i need to achieve.
I have a sim free UK HTC one.
I need to get rSAP working with the phone for my Audi car kit to work. I also have an added issue that my phonebook contacts don't sync at all.. (apart from that its a great bluetooth connection...lol)..
I've located the rSAP program but apparently when its downloaded from the play site. it doesn't work correctly. In order to get it working correctly, you have to manually load the files into the recovery section of a rooted HTC one. im using this program www.android-rsap.com
I've got a fully rroted HTC one. and I have downloaded the files from the above site. I've just no idea how to get the files onto the phone.. any pointers would be very useful. thanks...

You may optionally use these zip files in recovery for installation/deinstallation of the rSAP system files instead of the rSAP installer app:
when you have a write protected system partition (see above) and you don't want to install the kernel module or a different kernel
when you don't need other root functionality you may omit the installation of the Superuser app

Yes, i have the files you pointed to.. but (sorry this may be one of those noob moments) I don't know how to get those files onto the phone or even if they need to go onto the phone..
So if possible, i'm looking for instructions from this point onwards.. I have all the files, I'm rooted.. what do I do now?
Thanks again.

Hi thanks for the replies. Actually i have now found out how to do it and yes, i do feel a fool.. It was so easy.
For anyone else having the same issue..
simply download the files you need to load to your phone, Store them where you can find them.
Reboot your phone into recovery mode (your phone must be unlocked and rooted for this)
Simply pick install files and direct to the stored location of the files you downloaded.
Reboot the phone.

If I don't have that folder, I would have to create a new folder on my external sd card named "clockworkmod" and inside the "clockworkmod" folder, I would have to create another folder named "backup" and inside the "backup" folder, I would put the "OTA" folder into the "backup" folder correct?
And then I would go into recovery mode and "restore from backup on external sd" correct? But just to be safe, what if CWM doesn't recognize the backup?

Thnkas, in fact that is entirely what I am trying to do, it's just this rogue kernel stopping me from doing anything.
One thing I have just thought of, as nobody seems to have a full nandroid backup .......
Is it possible to remove the image file (which I believe contains the kernel) from a nandroid backup and replace with a known good stock image file?

what is your software version? You can't just use preloaded apps from random versions, If you are on 1.28.401.7 then use the preloaded apps from a 1.28.401.7 dump only.
Apps must be pushed to /data/preload and you must set apps permission to 0644 (rw-r--r--) and /preload folder to 0711 (rwxrwx--x)
you can find your preloaded apps from a ruu, a nandroid backup or a reset rom that match your version.
my software number is 6.09.401.10
android version 4.4.3
build 6.09.401.10 CL366813 release-keys
why i can't install them as a normal apk like i did with the calculator and the flashlight?

So you have to find all the content of /data/preload from a 6.09.401.10 dump and push it to /data/preload and set permission both to files and folder like described above. If you want to be able to install the next ota when available, you can follow these instructions, otherwise say goodbye to ota updates .

How to do it? Just do what I said above and you should be fine. You can push the files using adb or using a file manager. Permissions can also be changed using a file explorer like root browser or any other similar explorer.

What you need to understand is that most apps in /data/preload folder are patched via ota updates. If they are missing or if they are not as expected (corrupted or wrong version for example), the ota installation will fail. The ota updater script looks for these apps and also check their MD5 value, if the value doesn't match or if the file is missing, the script will abort the ota installation. Thats why you need to have 100% stock /data/preload folder and its content if you want to be able to install future ota.

You may not find your exact version, this one is the one just prior to your version. The .10 update was very small with a good likely hood that it did not touch the preload files. However, you can download the update from here and check to see if they were included. You can still take the preload files out of it and it might be the same. Move the apps to your phone and set the permissions like alray stated in his post. When there is an OTA available, you will need the stock recovery and stock rom to successfully run it .

Here is the system dump, you can browse around it looking for the preload apps. Follow alray's instructions on how to move to your phone.

How to do it? Just do what I said above and you should be fine. You can push the files using adb or using a file manager. Permissions can also be changed using a file explorer like root browser or any other similar explorer.

I understand. So if i am using the stock rom and push the files corrected apps i will get the OTA updates (altough i need to flash recovery to stock)
the thing is that i'm still not sure about if it's fine that i have uninstalled the apps that i have installed.... if any traces will be left even when i push them are you said so i will be able to get OTA.
thanks

it should be fine, in the worse case, when you will attempt to install the future ota, it will fail and you'll be able to see what file is missing/corrupted.

There is some stuff of /data/preload in the ota update 6.09.401.10 (dont know if all the content is there. Good new is that there is no file patched from 6.09.401.5 to 6.09.401.10 in /data/preload. only complete files that replace older ones.
So what you could try to do is to copy the /data/preload folder of 6.09.401.5 on a folder on your pc and then copy the files from /data/preload of the 6.09.401.10 ota in that folder. Make sure you overwrite the .5 files with the .10 ones when (if) there is conflict between some files.
Then push that folder to your phone and set permission to files and folder.
so in the 6.09.401.10 ota there is:
calculator.apk
flashlight.apk
HTC_News.apk
mocanaKeyVpnF.apk
mocanaKeyVpnServiceF.apk
PowerToGive.apk
SevenDigital.apk
.xml files for every .401 compatible CID
A bunch of .png image files
A bunch of .mp4 weather animation
another alternative would be to ask someone on 6.09.401.10 to upload their complete /data/preload folder, would be easier

[Q] Questions regarding compressed recovery img and data on note 4

Hey Everyone,
I am new to XDA forums,(have used it for troubleshooting in the past but just registered today)
I am also new to android and linux, personally i don't use my phone for anything other than calls or games(i mostly do pc's), however my wife does a lot, she has written her own code, does mods, etc...., and we are both stumped. I am asking this on her behalf, due to a terminal illness she has lost the ability to do several things. On April 30th the lollipop update was pushed to her Note 4 (T-mobile US branded) and it wiped out all of her app data as well as her entire SD card. My question is in 2 parts one regarding the TWRP backup for this phone, and another regarding recovering the SD data from this phone(please let me know if i need to break this out into multiple sections of the site).
We have a TWRP backup that was compressed and loaded onto her cloud storage on 4/27/15, and we are unable to figure out how to get TWRP to recognize it without giving an error about the binary code or just not working period. Here is what we have tried(On advice not just from other XDA posts but various android forums as well)
Using TWRP(7zip for unpacking and repacking)
1. Downloaded the TWRP back up into windows
2. Renamed all files of the back up to be .tar, with the exception of boot which was converted to .img
3. Added Meta-Inf file from what was suppose to be stock ROM( she was not running a custom on this phone)
4. Re-archived everything back into Zip and sideloaded.
result : Error in binary code
Using Odin
1. Converted recovery (file only from backup) to md5 using Cygwin
2. Flashed using Odin
Result: Gained back a few programs but no app data or text histories
We have also tried varying versions of this, i.e. converting extra files or renaming extra files and receive the same issue. I am wondering if it is just an issue with the cloud stored compressed backup(or more likely i dont know what im doing)?
Second question comes from above, I was able to recovery all of the data from the SD card(everything was stored here, app data, recovery files, imgs, everything). When recovering the data it split everything up so all the sub peices of each recovery file are spread out is there a way to combine the individual file parts that were recovered from the SD card into functional android files again?
As i mentioned before i have never really dealt with this type of thing before but i want to try and fix this for her as between the 2 issues she has lost 5 years of data.
Thank you so much for your responses.
Hi, what you need to do is put the backup back into the exact same form it was before, an uncompressed, unzipped folder, then put it into the exact directory where TWRP puts backups when it makes them, and then in TWRP choose the option to restore. If you put the backup in the correct directory, TWRP will see it and allow you to choose it to restore it. Basically you just wanna put the backup back where it was before and then restore it in TWRP.
I wasn't sure if you had done this or not. If you have the backup folder with all the contents in their original form, it should work. I've even moved a backup from one phone onto another phone, exact same model of course, and then restored that backup onto the new phone!
I've never converted a backup into another form to be flashed another way, like Odin or as a zip in TWRP. Although I guess it could be possible it seems like it could be pretty messy.
Also if the TWRP backup was for a kit at build it will not restore on the lollipop baseband. You will need to Odin back to the kitkat NK4 build them you should be able to take the data.

Thank you both for the suggestions i will give them a try shortly and i will provide an update on how things go.
Yeah, if you put the backup folder in the right directory, which is either internal or external sdxard/TWRP/BACKUPS/serial #/, you could restore just the data at least and it ought to be mostly ok. You ,might need to clear data in an app here or there if they force close.... or if it's too much then yeah, Odin back to KitKat and restore the desired components of the backup.

Thank you for this, i double checked we had it in the right directory, but it still failed. At first it said something about a missing md5, but i tried again and i was able to get the log for the failure though. (attached below)
Hmm, I looked at the logs trying to make sure you chose to Restore in TWRP and not Install. If so it's possible the backup could have gotten altered or corrupted in the transferring back and forth. If you get it intact as it was, it SHOULD work, but I'm but sure what else to do at the moment. I hope you get it working
Sorry for the delay
Hey Everyone,
Sorry for the delay its been a long week, bad thing after bad thing kept happening. I was able to try your suggestions and i put together some additional information in hope this might help us try and figure it out.
*I must figure out how to recover, texts, contacts, call locks. My default texting app was google messenger.
So I figured I would start with the phone
I am using a Samsung SM-910T on 4.4.4 (build *ANK4) It was pretty Vanilla -> rooted, but running the stock ROM
1. The phone was set to do a full internal backup nightly using the online nandroid backup (by H3r3T1L)
2. Backups were set to be in TWRP backup format and to save to an external SD card, then to compress before being uploaded to google drive
3. Backups were set to delete from SD card after the upload was finished.
What happened
1. When stock 5.0.1 firmware OTA came out i was trying to dismiss the notification but apparently hit "accept" by mistake, causing the system to crash.
2. While restoring the phone, i attempted to download the most recent backup from the google drive and flash the zip to restore my data.
3. This Zip would not install, and i noticed all of the backups uploaded had the same anomally-a few of the files were 0 bytes
4. I downgraded the phone to ANK4 based on the above recommendation but it has made no difference.
5. I still get updated binary error and each time i flash the zip, my OS gets wiped.
6. I have tried instructions to just unzip and flash , to put zips in twrp backup folder, to build new file with meta-inf, etc. and nothing seems to work.
When the SD card got deleted I was able to retrieve some data from the deleted SD card, but don't know where the text messages are located or how to combine them back into a usable format. Or at the very least be able to extract the SMS/MMS history.
I hope this extra information helps. In any way im am desperate to try and fix this for my wife.
I believe you can use Titanium Backup to extract files from a TWRP image. If you can't extract anything from the backup it's either corrupted, in the wrong place, or in the wrong form - that is due to the compression decompression not being compatible (all zip programs are not equal). Best of luck.
BTW, you must restore TWRP files not install them.

[ROM][WIP] AdvancedStock for HTC 626s (MetroPCS/Cricket)

Wiki with more information about this ROM: http://www.urgero.org/AdvancedStock626
CRICKET USERS:
This ROM works for Cricket Variant phones now.
APN's for Cricket are not enabled in this ROM yet, so follow these instructions to setup the APN's for data & MMS.
Play Store might crash some times, or on first boot, clear the play stores and google service cache in settings
This ROM does not, and will not have Crickets carrier apks.
Take caution using this ROM, I do not have cricket, I have MetroPCS so I cannot test this ROM on Cricket devices.
This ROM for ALL cricket users will require the boot.img linked in the downloads below to get WiFi working properly until further notice.
Instructions for install are the same for MetroPCS AND Cricket users.
Enjoy!
****Version 5 now has some CM12 applications, please enjoy them, I also made slight changes to the libs folder, su.d folder, and added new libs to prep for the CM12 Hybrid rom
Download Links:
THIS IS NOT A FLASHABLE ZIP, YOU MUST RESTORE IT FROM TWRP RECOVERY!!!!
Debloated and Rooted System Image(TWRP)(Ver. 5):http://www.mediafire.com/download/k7zfvdf6efr74ni/AdvancedStock626_V5.zip****IF UPDATING FROM A PREVIOUS VERSION YOU MUST CLEAR CACHE/DALVIK CACHE!!!!***
My Kernel backed up from TWRP: https://www.mediafire.com/?z1697u7dtpfwow1(ONLY DOWNLOAD IF YOU HAVE WIFI ISSUES AND MADE A PROPER BACKUP BEFORE HAND!!!!!!!)
Also: you will need 7-zip to unpack this file: http://www.7-zip.org/
For those who have been asking for this: MetroPCS Device Unlock App (Took it off a display model for ya guys )(NOTE: Might need to be installed as a system app! Read the bottom of this post for more info!) (NOTE2: It might need some libs files to install properly, I am working on getting those too.)
****WARNINGS****
If you upgraded your phone past 1.06.1550.7 this firmware will BREAK WiFi!!!!
You always run the risk of bricking a device when using non-oem firmware.
Although I have tested this extensively (And currently using it as my Daily Driver) expect bugs since some important HTC have been removed.
Your kernel version MUST be at 3.10.49-perf-g1363ba7 (Only kernel that has been reported to work properly on this device with THIS firmware so far.)
The RUU in case something goes wrong: http://dl3.htc.com/application/RUU_A32E_UL_L51_DESIRE_SENSE70_MetroPCS_US_1.23.1550.3.exe
THIS IS NOT A FLASHABLE ZIP, YOU MUST RESTORE IT FROM TWRP RECOVERY!!!!
How to Restore The New System Image:
If upgrading from a previous version, please be sure to Wipe Cache/Dalvik Cache before rebooting to make sure new system apps, and tweaks are properly used.
Download the system image from the link above
Extract the zip file to your external SD Card: (Example: Phone:\Ext_sd\TWRP\backups\)
Reboot into download mode (Vol Down + Pwr)
Select "Reboot into bootloader"
Select "Reboot into Recovery"
Make sure System Read only is not enabled in Mount settings.
Select "Restore" -> Select the Folder you just put on your external SD Card
Wait for a few minutes.
After that is done, go back to the recovery home
Then select "Wipe"
Select "Data", "Cache", and "Dalvick Cache", and "Internal Storage" ONLY (
IF UPDATING FROM A PREVIOUS VERSION YOU MUST CLEAR CACHE/DALVIK CACHE!!!!)
Slide to wipe.
Then reboot.
Follow android setup as normal
Profit.
Some notes about this Custom Stock ROM:
I could not remove everything because the device itself is using HTC's Framework so some apps had to stay
HTC Launcher is removed, giving up 100MB+ of space.
Some HTC Apps have been removed
New Launcher put in (CM Launcher)(NOT TREBUCHET FROM CM12)
Lots of google apps removed
HTC Keyboard stayed because it was the only keyboard I found that will be active natively out of the box on this ROM (Dont know why)
AdBlocker added
Rooted with SuperSU from Chainfire
about 3.6GB of free space BEFORE system does app updates, and about 2.7GB free AFTER the updates. so still pretty good amount of space left on the phone after.
Super smooth bootup time (About 30 sec or less for me.)
THIS IS NOT A FLASHABLE ZIP, YOU MUST RESTORE IT FROM TWRP RECOVERY!!!!
Solving misc issues with the ROM:
You can attempt to flash the boot.img I have linked above to resolve the wifi BUT MAKE A FRICKING BACKUP FIRST BEFORE YOU DO THAT!!!!
APN Fix (MMS/LTE/TETHER): https://www.mediafire.com/?5b9q589337n8gaq This file needs to be restored with APN Backup&Restore. To do this you need to convert APN Backup & Restore into a system app then restore the XML file you downloaded.
Installing the Device Unlock app: Copy the apk to /system/priv-app/DeviceUnlock. If that folder does not exist, feel free to make it and put the APK there.
Enjoy my work? Please donate to me please. Every dollar helps out a bunch. Thank you!
Freakin sweet bro !!
I hope this may work with the T-Mobile 626s to right?.. Same chitt..

In theory it should, but to my understanding the TMO variant and the MetroPCS variant run different kernels, but if you have a working backup then trying can't hurt!
If you can give me the hardware specs and a copy of your system partition then I can see if they would be compatible.
Awesome, if you need any help or even a tester, I'd be glad to help out
if you need a tester let me know.
I think I will need a couple testers, I am planning on releasing a beta system.img (For fastboot: fastboot flash system system.img)
Should be easy, this system.img will just overwrite your current system image. You will need to have an unlocked bootloader for fastboot flash to work properly and you will need to know any tweaks that have been made will be overwritten. I will work on getting a flashable zip ASAP.
Would be happy to test and provide results
my bootloader is unlocked and it would be s-off but when i purchased the key from sunshine the program wasn't working with the metropcs firmware even tho it said it was compatible. just let me know when u get the flash-able files.
Can't wait to try or test I'm game
I am almost done compiling a list of files that can be removed, then I will be removing the files from a base system.img file. After that I will be *hopefully* resizing the default partition table on the phone to give us the maximum amount of space possible for this device.

I am a little behind schedule because of work so the ROM release will be mid next week.
I can certainly attempt, but if someone with experience could not do it, chances are I will not be able to do it.
Plus Xposed is still very buggy for Lollipop ROMS (Ours is 5.1)
Fwiw, xposed ran totally fine on my old s2 on all of the lollipop roms (5.0 and 5.1) that I installed. Don't let potential bugs discourage you. Thanks for all of your efforts. Best of luck!
