Radios and frequencies - Moto X Q&A

On many phones you are able to change what frequencies radio operates on by flashing appropriate radio fw. How do Motos operate? Possible?

Calls with updated Radio

I updated the Diamond with the new radio version .05 to use the device purchased in India on AT&T's network in the US. While I am able to see that the device is operating on the 850 band, I am still unable to make or receive calls some times in some areas.
Can anyone tell me how this can be fixed? Is a ROM update required along with a radio update?
its not required but you are running a new rom, right?
Thanks Blazeitup. The version of the ROM I am using is 1.37.720.2 that shipped with the phone. The radio version was 1.00.25.03 that I updated to 1.00.25.05.
After I did the hard SPL and updated the radio, the ROM version that I show when the phone starts is 1.37.00.00 but the ROM version in the "Device Information" is 1.37.720.2.
The signal strength is great but can not make or receive calls.
Cant help you with your problem but I will be facing the same problem soon...i do have a question for you though... after you upgraded your radio, was your phone still locked to airtel? I have it unlocked for vodafone india and i need to upgrade the radio to enable 850mhz.
Why dont you give .08 radio a try. It is newer than .05.
Give it a shot.
it might help.
Luck

[Q] What is a Radio?

What exactly is a radio(the one you can flash via task00,i know what an FM radio is ) and what does flashing a different radio change on my phone?

N9005 Radio flash fw

I heard it is possible to add/remove different bands depending on which radio firmware is flashed.... is that true?

[Q] Vivid Radio ROMs?

I'm trying to find radio roms for my Vivid. (Telstra Australia varient)
I can't get 4g/lte, the phone radio just dies when I'm in 4g areas. I want to flash a new radio rom. Both Telstra (the phone) and the carrier I'm with Optus both use the same band/frequency and such I should probably just need to use any recent telstra radio rom.
I've searched but can't find any vivid radio roms. Where are they?

I'm not an expert, but I believe flashing radios is more of a hassle than regular ROMs. The radio is in a protected partition, which is not modifiable without S-OFF (or maybe some very specific and unknown code from the carrier). I also recall reading that the radio is on a different CPU (FCC regulations?), and that the phone first boots the radio through that CPU, and once that's ok, THEN the main CPU is activated to boot the rest of the phone. So if you screw up your radio, it could be very bad.
I found this thread kind of discussing flashing radios:
