[Q] LG "On Screen Phone" for Verizon model? - Verizon LG G2

Hi there. I am trying to install LG's On Screen Phone tool (Download here), and connect it to my Verizon LG G2 (VS980). I first saw this in DeamonFish's root guide tutorial here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Y45SXPRb31o
It's what he used to show the phone screen on his PC. Basically a VNC setup made by LG.
In order for that software to connect you have to switch into "PC Software" mode under USB connection Mode. Check my attachment for what that looks like.
However, it seems Verizon doesn't have this option!
Can anyone confirm? and if so is this something that could possibly be remedied via a rom?

It would seem that internet connection Ethernet would allow you to vnc over network. Bit maybe not.

I have tried every single mode available including the Ethernet mode and still nothing

I talked to lg. Only the at&t and T-Mobile devices support this. Just another reason to get the hell off verizon....

Bummer, I just saw this feature now & am realizing its not going to work for Verizon...

I also would love to see this option with the VS980! I could understand that in stock ROM's that Verizon would block this or something but this is XDA we have OPTIONS! Currently running Cloudyflex 2.0 and loving it and would really like to see this feature ported over to these semi-custom LG ROM's.

Tethering methods

Has anyone found a functional wireless tethering method? Or do any of the roms listed in the development section have tethering enabeled? Ive tried wifi tether several different versions with every setting combination and cant get it to work. Shows devices connected but no internet connection

Google's WiFi Tether app is a must-get:
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Set the Device Profile in settings to LG Optimus S
I leave my Setup Method as 'Auto' and have no problems tethering a number of devices. Many people choose to set theirs to Softap. IMO I've seen no difference between the two so try both and choose which one you think works best for you.
Thanks joey but ive tried that setup and it will show connected but no actual internet. The main device im trying to connect is a wii.

My Wireless Tether app was doing that same thing. I think Verizon does something on their end to block it.
You can use "Open Garden" from the Play store. It works. Used it this weekend.

Open garden works well. The only problem i could see was if the Wii doesn't like ad-hoc networks as tje tether apps I have seen are all Ad-hoc

Any tethering apps working on the One?

Are you using the one built in? I have been using that one successfully. I'm on TMO, but I think this app is just the one that comes with the phone.
You need to state which model phone you have, and what ROM.
Use WiFi Tether free a on the market.

I'm using EasyTether Pro v1.1.5 by Mobile Stream. It works using USB to my Win7 laptop. Also works using Bluetooth to my Asus Infinity Tablet (new feature that came out yesterday). My Sprint USA HTC One is totally stock, unrooted and locked.

Hotspot & WiFi Direct should work on $600 phone

Hi pals. It's been 3 years I'm buying HTC and have had awesome time with them. I'm THE ONLY ONE in my family and friends with HTC and all others buy Samsung.
WiFi Direct didn't work on my One X and I'm really VERY disappointing to know that it doesn't work on One too. All Samsung phones around me have built-in WIFI DIRECT option when they try to share a pic or a video. We don't have anything in our 'share' menu.
I tried using FAST FILE TRANSFER app on my phone. It works like a charm on any phone and transfer 1gig of data within 5 minutes. BUT it's not for me AGAIN! I ran the app and the error came up saying, "wifi hotspot not working on your device. This is how it is implemented in the OS and don't rate the app bad."
I got outta app and turned hotspot on manually and guess what! NO OTHER MOBILE PHONE is able to connect to my HTC One's wifi hotspot. They find the network and get stuck on getting IP ADDRESS.
Wifi hotspot worked in previous devices. Instead of making other stuff work we now have a not-working-hotspot.
I really am a die hard HTC fan but how will HTC get users when they won't care for this petty issue. All samsung around me NEVER use BT unless they're to deal with me.
Is there any way I can use WiFi Direct and WiFi Hotspot on my One?
WiFi Hotspot, if works, will do the job for me because FAST FILE TRANSFER will solve WiFi Direct issue.

WiFi hotspot uses default hotspot and that doesn't work. I was able to transfer data with LAN but both devices should've ES EXPLORER right? I already use ES so this is convenient for me as long as I'm at home because we all use ES as a file manager. But the transfer speed is only ~2MBps.
As a work around at home I use SOFTWARE DATA CABLE app and that gives me around 5-7MBps speed. Still it needs to be on both devices.
So any of this isn't practically possible when I'm trying to transfer data to my colleague or friend.

I'm having a very similar problem. I've used my HTC One to tether its 3G to my laptop several times, but it suddenly stopped working. My MacBook can recognize the network and even connect to it (sort of) but it says "no internet connection". Furthermore, the WiFi direct apps also have stopped working (I'm guessing the issue might be related). I used to use an app called "Flash Transfer". I've tried several different apps from the Play store, none of them work. It just says "Connecting" and the finally gives up and fails.
This is really very frustrating, especially since I got it to work before. I don't know what changed!

See that's the point. Now if I'm sitting in a cafe and need to transfer 200MB video I shot last night at a party I'll be forced to take my laptop out and transfer the video to laptop and then connect friend's phone to laptop.
Samsung users will select 'share' > 'WiFi Direct' > 'Send'
I can't make anyone else install the app in order to make WD work. Infact why should even I install it. It should work out of the box.
Never bought Samsung and never will but this thing is really pissing me off that only I use BT and no on else around me.

The hotspot on this phone works just fine. It's something on your phone. Could be a hardware issue, you need to do a factory reset or reflash with your RUU. I have had no problems with my hotspot on my One, or on my One X.
Also, if you're running a stock rom thats from a carrier, they like to mess with the hotspot functionality.

Hotspot stopped working on One X when it came to 4.1.1. I don't have that phone any longer so not an issue. How could this be a HW issue?

Nice bonus on AT&T

WiFi hotspot tethering now works for me. On my former AT&T-branded Galaxy S2, this feature was disabled unless I were on the higher-cost data plan, which definitely was not worth it for me. But the unlocked Nexus starts it right up.
This is great for us. For example, when we're on a car trip, my wife can use her Kindle or iPod Touch to access the Internet. Same for anyplace where we don't have a good public WiFi signal.
Be careful. They monitor what type of traffick is transmitted and can figure out that you are tethering. ATT will then automatically enroll you in a tethering plan and charge you for it. It happened to Me with a different device.

Are you sure? Yesterday I tethered my Nexus5 with my Nexus7.... and when I opened a chrome browser on the Nexus7, it asked me to upgrade to a tethering plan.
How can I get my Nexus5 to tether without running into this problem......... I know T-Mobile gives you 2.5gigabytes of tethering, but is there no way around this? even if the tethering is from the nexus5 to another android device?
ATT's tethering monitoring is based on APN only (called mobile broadband). Their only method of Engle enforcement is that all their branded phones lock you out of changing the apn in their stock att modified software.
If you're on phone or wap.cingular (and PTA as well in my experience) you can tether a pc all day long. Been doing it for years regularly on my unlocked S2 then my N4, and I'm currently tethered via my N5 on phone and LTE.

So...I don't have to root and freeze the tethering file to tether? I can just go for it on my N5? I am taking a trip with the kids in the car and it would be nice to turn tethering on for their iPads. Leaving tonight and just got my N5 yesterday...so no time today to root.
Thanks in advance.
This has been an advantage of nexus phones since day one. The native tethering app works. Sure the carrier cab still try to block it from their end or cut you off, so don't over do it.

I've always been able to use tethering on T-Mobile, they never said anything to me about it or blocked be.

I was always on WAP.Cingular APN and tethered with my note and got auto switched to tether plan with mild usage.

I have only received a notification once from ATT about tethering, never happened again and I have not been charged. I think its because my power was out and I really wanted to play battlefield so I just plugged my phone into my laptop and went at it.

This is very odd. I'm not saying I don't believe you, but I've done the same on wap.cingular AND others (but no mobile broadband even in the list on my apns) and I've browsed, bittorrented, etc all without issue from a real pc with no user agent hack. Again that was i9100 (tw and aosp), n4 and now n5. To be fair I don't think I've tethered a pc on the n5 yet but my tablets were fine. Maybe because I've got no contact they let me get away with more (doubtful) OR your Samsung ROM restored the apns to default from the Sim on you at some point and added the mobilebroadband apn to the list.
I HAVE been detected on tmo tethering because they detect via browser user agent. ATT does not require a spoofed user agent, as far as I can tell it's ONLY via that apn. So without mobilebroadband in your apn list you should be safe at least on a nexus or other non-carrier\aosp device.

I tether all the time with my Galaxy Express and S4. While on Jury duty I tethered for 7 hours. I never did anything to hide my tethering, just used an app that side steps the phone home thing. I'm on the GoPhone $35 plan, both my phones have been moded to use the dumb phone plans.
In any unlocked phone that feature would work.

Hello evryone. I had the same problem. I went on the computer side into Device manager and clicked portable devices while phone was connected. Clicked on my phone (samsung sm n910v) and then on the second tab that say Driver and 5 tabs show up, clicked on ROLL BACK DRIVER and that did it for me. Thank you everyone for other helpfull info i have gotten from this website
I purchased an LG G2 on ebay to get me through until my iPhone 7 ships, had the same problem. I don't know if the USB debugging step is necessary, but here's what I did to get the app to recognize the phone:
1. Enable Developer Features (Settings > About Phone > Software Information > Tap Build Number like 5 times or something (it tells you how many after several taps) to enable developer features
2. Enable USB debugging (Settings > Developer options > USB debugging) - note that you cannot enable while the phone is connected to PC via USB. So unplug first then enable.
3. Start Software Upgrade Assistant software on PC.
4. Plug phone into PC and choose install/media sync mode.
5. Then go to phone and change the connection mode to internet > ethernet.
6. Update software started reading my phone status.
Unfortunately my device is 4.2.2 and software version "VS98008U" and says that it's up to date. I can't find any information about this software version anywhere, so I'm not sure what I got sold on ebay but it aint friendly. And all I want to do is upgrade to current Android version so I can install the latest ESPN Fantasy Sports app until my iPhone comes
