Battery backs? - G2 Accessories

Since this phone was confirmed to be able to remove the battery back is there anyway to buy new backs? I searched and found nothing. I scratched mine and would like a new one of the same color.

So yes, as far as I know all G2 versions have removable backs.
Cheers!

I'm sure it will become available sooner or later. The "non-removable" backs to me and my wife's razr and razr maxx became available.

Probably not because they aren't supposed to be removable. The motorola backs had to be purchased 3rd party, but they were OEM.

Well, if you live in a country that sells the version with the removable back and battery, that explains that. Here in the US, it is not available through LG. The only parts available through a 3rd party are the screen and digitizers. I've never had to buy parts from LG before. I'm basing my comment on my experience with motorola. The back is not meant to be user removable or replaceable. Motorola will not provide the parts. You have to go through a 3rd party. At least, that's how it was when I reached out to them.

Actually all G2 version is removable back cover. (not sure about verizon)
My country sell international version D802, to open back cover is not that hard.
I see LG technician open back cover,to fix cracking sound.
And you can buy back cover for $9

You're missing the point. Of course it can be opened. It's not supposed to be by the average consumer, which is why some of these companies don't sell parts to the average consumer. Doing it yourself voids the warranty because you are not supposed to do it. Only a technician is supposed to in order to keep the wareanty intact.

I think just remove back cover will not be void the warranty, because no hologram sticker cover it.
And even no screw, and to open, we don't need screwdriver to open it.

That's great that they provide the part. I didn't know that. I was basing my answer on previous experiences from another manufacturer who provided a very similar product.
As for voiding the warranty, that will depend on the manufacturer. Here is the reason why LG could refuse to warranty the device.
1) Defects or damages resulting from use of the product in other than it's normal and customary manner.
It doesn't matter how easy it is to remove the back cover. It was not designed to be consumer removable. Therefore, removing it is altering or using a device in a way that it was not intended. Even if your issue has nothing to do with you removing the back cover, if LG were to find out, they could technically void your warranty citing that it has been tampered with.
I'm not saying they will do that, just that they could. I deal with consumer electronics warranty issues almost daily. I've seen warranties denied for similarly ridiculous reasons.

LCD + Digitizer
OEM Battery Samsung
OEM Battery from eTrade(cheaper)
2A OEM Charger
Rear Housing Sapphire
Rear Housing Grey
Back Camera Module
Flex cable with SIM holder and wireless charging pins
Flex cable with charging port and mic

Do this at your own risk, remember that you have 1 year warranty, you should first try getting samsung or AT&T to replace.
Would be great if a replacement back was available. I contacted Samsung and they said one is not available and do not have an ETA when it will be.

Only one way to find out
If you can get a replacement housing and a s4 camera sensor and then mod them together... I would use some type of sealant and put it around the edge of the sensor and take a drop of water and see if it gets past the housing. Of course do this before putting your system board in the housing... Just as a test. Not sure if it is worth it to you but if we could successfully mod the S4 camera on the active and keep water proof I think most active users will do it. It appears that samsung thought about using the 13 mp sensor but changed their minds because of supply demands.
If I had some extra money I would give it a shot. But my wife would get mad for me tossing out around 30-50 bucks for just a chance of a working mod. any unmarried people out there willing to try?

[Q] Wife pried the back off, internal components damaged, much sorrow.

So my wife was home alone when her new Moto X arrived. She read somewhere on the AT&T site that she needed a number off the battery, so - being used to her old Galaxy SII - she proceeded to pry off the back case. Obviously it came off all at once and tore a good amount of stuff off with it, and now I'm home early from work looking at a bit of a mess.
I'm a layman, but I can see that the following components are damaged:
Volume rocker / power button ribbon torn at the power button side
Antennae torn off completely (ribbon cable intact), square grey segments left behind on the battery
Camera ribbon detached from circuit board but seems to be intact
Random black tape torn off
Needless to say, with a busted phone, void warranty, and wife in tears... I need some help from XDA. What are my options? Repair it myself? Take it to a shop? Call it a loss and buy a Nexus off-contract? We don't have any upgrades left and can't really afford to buy a new smartphone at full price.
I uploaded photos of the damage to imgur, but I guess I don't have enough posts to supply the link. I uploaded them as attachments, hope that works.

Black lines in screen?

So I was using my vs980 today and I unlocked it and noticed columns of dead pixels along the right hand side. This phone was bought in may and has always been in a case and has never been dropped. Is this a known issue with the phone? Do I bring it to Verizon or contact LG?

I've been reading online about it and it seems to happen to certain panels. Do I need to flash a different kernel to fix it? I noticed that when using the phone that some of the lines will disappear then reappear. I also have the jdi panel if that helps.

Once the pixels are dead, you need a new panel.

White screen replacement on black model?

Has anyone gotten a white screen replacement on their black model? I need a new screen because one part of my screen is unresponsive and I'm out of warranty. I'm planning on buying a new phone later (hopefully nexus 6) but for now I've decided id like to fix my g2 and keep it for a while longer now that I saw its getting lollipop.
So I was wondering does the white screen fit same as black? I'm kinda bored of. The black and since I need a new screen I thought I might as well get a white one. Please only respond if your 100% sure because I don't want to buy it and take apart my phone only to find it doesn't fit the same (which I don't see why it shouldn't but just v want to make sure)
After I may also order a new back cover in white since they're only like 10-20 dollars and just remodel my whole phone
The back cover I have now is adjudged and scratched so I might as well.
Thanks!

And does anyone know a good video to follow for replacing a screen? I've never done it with a g2 and it looks pretty complicated when I looked one up. Is there no way to do it without removing the whole mother board and buttons and everything? The guy looked like he was ripping things off so I'm worried about following that video. I repair phones for a living.
Swapping the colors will not matter, they all fit the same.
Order the assembly (glass and LCD) part by your G2's model number, as the ribbon cable connectors are different sizes varied by model numbers.

Great thanks. And do you have any advice? I used to work at a cell phone store but only for a year and the only phone I've fixed was an iPhone because they're relatively easy to do and there lots of guides. For g2 I found only one video for vs980 and it seems really complicated. Should I just take it to someone. who does this for a living? I wanted to do that in the first place but they v wanted to charge me 175 dollars. to fix when I can get a brand new screen for as low as 50-75 dollars so I think the extra 100 is a bit much considering a g2 can easily be bought for 200-300 dollars

The video link I posted should help.
Basically they are all the same internally except for different cable connector sizes. All the repair steps are the same.
Watch the video and if it looks like something you don't feel confident doing, I'd definitely recommend taking it somewhere to get repaired.
My shop does take mail-in repairs and we charge $100 flat for G2 screen repairs. Let that be an option too if you feel you must have it repaired. Of course waiting on shipping and all that sucks but you'd likely save a chunk.
But yeah, definitely have someone repair it IF you don't feel confident... you don't want to mess it up beyond repair.

It's really not a bad repair. If you decide to do it, just follow directions and take your time on it. In my opinion, the hardest part of repairing a G2 is getting the plastic back off. Lol.

T-Mobile Replacement process

I'm new to t-mo, and I'm gonna need a replacement (i'm just not getting the same battery life as others, regardless of what rom \ kernel combo i use final step is replacement).
How is the process?
how's the quality of the replacement units?
Is anyone using a replacement unit?
Edit: Would like your input ASAP as i'm possibly ordering the replacement today
(former Verizon customer, where CLNR (certified like new replacements aka refurbished) were trash and expected to fail as soon as humanly possible)
The replacement process is fairly painless.
Just call 611 and don't tell them you are rooted.
Odin to stock. Factory reset for good measure.
They send you a new phone and you send in the old one. You usually get an extra back cover and battery out of the process.
I never have received a refurbished unit, but others may have.

Haven't tried a different battery. I have done spin test and tested it via multimeter and all came out well.
Got a couple replacements. All were "refurbs" but they were pretty much new with all the plastics unpeeled. I didnt have a battery issue, so standard shipped is just the unit without battery, cover, stylus. I just use what I had on original and send my old unit back in the same box. It was painless and I didnt have to sacrifice my phone first, just waited for the replacement to come in.
The downside to the replacements that come with no extra cushioning, the Note has moveable parts in the camera since its got an optical stabilizer. Got 2 duds that where I had to slap the phone in order to focus (apparently a common problem). So on the 3rd replacement, it was all good. I'm still a happy camper, as long as it didnt cost me, I was good.

I actually rooted and rom-ed all of them. LOL! But I odined back to stock before sending it back. Still triggered knox, but oh well...
just flash a stock looking rom like firekat and send it back; Tmobile couldnt care less if you are rooted or tripped knox
I got a replacement Note 4 from T mobile a month or so after the Note 4 was released. The phone did not come with a back cover nor anything else. Although it appeared new, it still had the factory screen saver on as well as the side bezel covers. There was an app that tests for refurbishment which indicated my unit was new. Not that it matters as I sent it back and kept my original one.
As I was not a jump customer they wanted to charge me quiete a few for postage ( I think $20 ) and processing, and it also took a week. They tried to sell me jump, by saying if I had jump it would have only cost me $5 and that I'd get priority mail 3 days. I dont buy into that rheteric, that also is not very Uncarrier of them - my opinion.
I dont rate their replacement program at all, only because they dont offer centers whereby you could walk in and get it swapped out like ATT. As well as them charging a premium to swap a defective phone.
And as for madmike23 not paying for replacement I guess he got that fee waived. Like I did. But like I said they charge for this service.

What is replacing the device gonna do in this instance .....sigh this is why rates go up and up every year.....stop comparing yourself to others and worry about you. Get a new battery, two even it's removable. You could have poor coverage so battery drain or app running in background etc your usage isn't the same as the nexts, and I hope they deny your claim.
I was gonna say something else and it slipped my mind but I digress

Got mine replaced about 3 months after getting it due to my screen cracking. I received a new replacement not refurbished along with new battery, wall charger with adapter, headphone, battery cover and new sim card. I originally had a White Note 4 and because they didn't have any White ones in stock they sent me a Titanium/Gray color one. I paid $175 for the replacement so I called of course to complain and was given a $30 credit towards my account, so I really only paid $145 fore the new replacement which ain't bad if you ask me.

I never heard of ATT allowing a direct swap in store unless you're within the return period.

And who said T-Mobile will replace or replaces phones? The only way that ever happens is if you're still within the return policy timeframe which I believe is 14 days from date of purchase.

My coverage is fine, I don't live in the boonies.
Actually rooting doesn't affect battery life, this is completely unfounded, and to entertain your thoughtless theory sir, i already went back to stock and tested it there too, same exact results.
I'm not claiming a phone insurance claim, WARRANTY, as i wrote.

Samsung sends T-Mobile returned re manufactured phones to use for in-warranty replacement options . Same process as verizon and all carriers as this is a industry agreement.

Mine was not "refurbished" it came with the original screen protector my original one came with. But I don't see your point.

ATT has stores specifically for device replacement. Well they did two years ago when I was with them.

and you paid for yours, hence why it was a asurion replacement. Sometimes they are new, sometimes they are refurb. You got lucky.
