Note 3 Sim Card removal - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It appears to me every day I spend using the note 3 I discover a new issue and a totally different way to do previously simple things to do.
For one why is Samsung shooting itself in the foot with its backward design of a Micro-SD slot on top of the MicroSim card slot and making this latter stuck?
Second, how do you guys remove the SIM card from the phone without damaging the thing?

Push down on the area of the sim card that is exposed and then push it out

i found it so hard to remove the sim, sucks

How often do you need to remove your sim? I laugh on xda daily at some of the things people consider "issues".

I remove my sim every day to switch it to my work phone since I work in an environment that is easy to destroy phones. Yes, its a total hassle....best way is to use a razor blade. It will pop it right out and not damage the working part...just a small cut in plastic for grip.
Note 3 -- Tapatalk version [HORRIBLE.1x]

Its a cheesy that's for sure. I cringe every time I have to remove my micro sd card, it just feels cheap, like it may break the next time I put my sd card back in the slot.

I put a little bit of tape on it to pull it out

Inside the package containing the extra tips for the S Pen there's a tool.
The same tool is used to remove the Sim as well as replace the tips

Try pushing down on the exposed part with a pencil eraser and slide it out.

Good Idea. I already dug a little hole in my sim, so I merely put a sharp pointer in the existing hole and slide it down and out.

the best way I found was to remove MicroSD and then press down hard on it with your fingernail then pull back.

So simple, so easy.
Thanks.

[Q] Possible to swap internal 32gb of my white Note

To a black Note 16gb? I always wanted a black Note 32gb...I got a friend thats selling me one black 16gb...Wouldn't be a problem if I swap the internal MOBO from my white Note to Black Note?
It is possible but quite problematic and frankly speaking not worth the risk. Better to just add big sd card imo.
You think the board size might be different?
Will probably be the same - in every store i looked, with replacement parts, there is just 1 board for N7000 and 1 for i717 so i guess they have to be the same for both colors ( would be very surprised if they werent )
What i meant is that replacing it and putting the device back together might be very risky.
Anyway, if you're up to it, here's a nice tutorial i used to replace my friend's note's back case - might be useful for replacing the board as well:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFDr3PQMTxw
You know its not that tricky....The board comes out without any glue or anything..

The reason I like a 32gb is because I put everything that has to do with Android in the internal 25gb. Like Apps, pictures etc...And I can shoot HD 1080p videos without using my SD card..I use the SD card just for my music collection..
Just buy a good 64g external scard.. and call it the day.

I got mine Friday. The camera is amazing. The two front speakers really set this phone apart for the music lover. The phone feels sturdy and well made. The blink feed is starting to grow on me. Overall very happy with it

The lack of an SD card is annoying, but the phone is great. Great camera, amazing speed with no lag, amazing sound, and amazing design. I'll just have to limit what I put on the phone. I'm used to having a 64GB SD card...

I looked at this phone and I think it is awesome in many unique ways. However, for me personally it's probably not a good fit for the following reasons:
Lack of removable battery. There are some occasions when I know I might spend a really long time away from being able to charge the phone (hiking, walking around NYC the whole day, etc.). For those type of outings where I might use the GPS/Google maps a lot and stop and browse the web at times, talk with a bluetooth headset and receive push email and do other battery hungry type of things so for extended outings like these I like to buy a mega sized battery and an extended battery door. (at other times I am fine with the stock battery and cover). Anyway, that's not an option with this device.
Lack of SD card. I tend to load a lot of music and podcasts on the phone and I really like having the flexibility of having an SD card.
Poor international support. The phone doesn't do UMTS 850, 900, or 1900 and I sometimes travel to countries where I need those bands.
Metal housing: Feels and looks great for sure but since I am probably going to get a cover for it anyway, what does it matter what's housing the phone underneath the cover?
So, I am probably going to go for the S4. Nevertheless, the One truly is one sweet phone and for most folks it will probably make a really good choice of a device.
That speaker is amazing. We tested one at the store and my wife thought it was hooked to the jawbone sitting next to it. While I don't typically watch a lot of videos on my current phone I still wouldn't mind having a better speaker. There is a lot of times when I have tried to watch a video in a noisy room and I can't hear a thing.
The camera also seems to be more than good enough. It might not be 13 megapixels like my current phone. But my current phone takes extremely blurry pictures if there is any movement and the night shots are horrible. I couldn't test the One's night shots at the store. I had my son wave his arms and I took a picture. It was impressive.

A solution to S4 Internal Storage Issue

I've seen a lot of ppl complaining about the storage capacity lately on the S4, it is understandable for us to install best looking games which takes up a lot of space and in less than you know it your internal storage will be full, it happened to me once.
I've found a solution to this, since apps cannot be normally store in external sd card well normally your sd card would solve this, but I've found an app called "FolderMount" for free on the play store, what this will do is move and mount the games/apk data from your internal to your external card being able to store many apps/games in the external card while having the internal sd card free of space.
Hopefully this will help some people out there struggling with internal space.
P.s. : This app of course requires root.
Also if you knew this, is ok don't spam me lol I'm just trying to help out some1 who might have this issue, thanks.

I am waiting for the possibility of a sprint 32gb s4 because my upgrade date is June 1. I suppose those of you that already have a s4 would have gotten a 32gb knowing then what you know now? What are your thoughts? Apply this hack or play the wait and see game for a larger capacity s4? I am fairly certain sprint won't carry the 64gb, but I'm hoping they will eventually get the 32. If they don't, then maybe I will wait and see what the note 3 is all about.

Not for $100 more, I wouldn't have. The hacks works well enough for me. The only app I've used it on though is Google Music. The rest of my apps/data etc only come out to 3.44GB of system storage so far, music comes to up 10GB on 16GB (aka 14.83GB) SD card, so for me the 32GB version is not worth the extra cost. Additionally, because I run Linux I've been having a ton of problems with the MTP connectivity even after installing the "Google-made" packages specifically for Android devices. It's easier to transfer items by removing the SD card and inserting it, than trying to connect and transfer items using the MTP connection.

What distro are you running?

I had some connectivity issues wit my S3 with previous versions of linux but Mint14 took care of it and S4 is connecting just fine as well.

I've got a 64gb sdxc in my e4gt just waiting to be utilized in a s4. I might give it until July or August to see of they ever get the 32's out. It's a given 64's won't come stateside. I'm not saying anyone is wrong but I highly doubt 16 to 32 will be a 100 dollar jump. Maybe, I'm guessing, 50 at the most. Anything over 300 is my limit for upgrade price unless it's a spectacular piece of hardware. Just a wait and see game as usual. I'm afraid the active will be different enough to not be popular enough for the dev scene to have root and recovery, let alone having much of a selection of after market stuff like batteries and cases. I want protection of a case for extended batteries like the e4gt. I hope someone offers a decent tpu case for the bigger battery too. I saw a pic of the battery cover for the big battery for the s4 and it wreaks of crappy quality. Thin and ugly. I also know another alternative could be getting a second OEM battery with external charger. Just swap out when needed. Has anyone determined the hooks on the body and cover are like the s3 in which they need to be snapped together in a certain order, lest it damages the snaps? I never had a s3 but did see the video about how easy it is to damage the cover if installed incorrectly.

[Q] Anyone wish they had a μSD card?

I'm about to pull the trigger on purchasing this phone. I would like to ask if anyone out there REALLY miss having a micro SD slot or not. I've had my HTC Incredible for 4+ years now, and I've gotten used to having an easily accessible slot.
Do the HTC One owners wish they had this option on their phone? Or is it something you've gotten over, and no longer feel the need for?
Thanks!
Nope plenty of storage

I had the HTC Incredible also, then I went with the iPhone (32GB), then to the G-Nexus (32GB), now I'm on the HTC One (also 32GB). I've gotten used to the fixed storage, and I have yet to fill it up, even with several apps (40+) and about 8 playlists saved on Spotify.
HD Videos will eat the space up like it's nothing. Ask me how I know -_-
I definitely miss it. I'm managing now but the hassle of eventually having to delete stuff for space will annoy me.
I miss it just because of how dangerous is to loose everything and cant recover it.

How about removable battery?
Thanks for the replies! How about the lack of a removable battery?
I just know with experimenting with several ROMs, Kernels, and such, there has been need of doing a "battery pull".
Has anyone encountered a problem with this? Or is there some type of kill-switch or override built in?
Thanks again.

Generally Power + Volume down will also do a reboot, just like pulling the battery

It's your call at the end of the day, everyones usage is different, some people like a lot of movies, others like games, or music, or apps.
You have to weigh up if this is enough for you. For me I always keep to my means.
32GB is plenty when you think about it, just don't keep un needed apps on your phone and honestly i don't think anyone needs 10,000 mp3's
So with a little juggling you can have a large library of apps, games, movies, pics and music with a load of space left over.
I'm around 12GB away but i know i could max it out if i installed all my apps, I just install what i need and if i need anything else then i can download it, keeps the phone nice and neat with little bloat too.
I had quite a few reservations before buying this phone but i'm glad that i did now, this year the One is the one to beat and for me it's the better buy between itself and it's nearest competitior which is the SGS4, the build quality, the audio, the screen, the overall look of the device is just mind blowing.
Only gripes i have is that it "DOES" get hot when you stress it, you notice it a lot more because of the aluminium chassis, the battery isn't as good as i'd have hoped and the BT stack is good old HTC's limited version rather than the one used on stock android or even samsung and other phones.
That last one is a personal gripe because i like to play tekken 3 with a ps3 controller but the Moga Pro is a decent replacement even if it is £40
Also the camera isn't great, although in low light it's suprisingly good and it picks up picture where'as the likes of the note 2 only gets a black screen.
Overall it's a beast of a handset and the battery being locked in is something that you'll get used to, forcing a reboot is simply a case of holding power until it goes off.
I've never used an SD card even in phones where I had the option! I hardly store anything on my phone but the 25-odd GB on the One is more than enough for me
I use a Mac and I miss not being able to simply mount my phone as an external storage. I can use the Andriod File Transfer utility, and I do, but it's kinda buggy and not convenient.
As far as the size of storage goes, it's plenty.

Complaints:
* The M8's screen is almost impossible to see when wearing polarized sunglasses. This problem is only when you hold the phone in portrait mode. In landscape mode it looks fine. This is a common problem with LCD screens, but there are steps HTC could have taken to eliminate it, such as using a 45 degree extinction angle, or using a compensating film.
* Button placement: I do not like M8's button placement. I find it hard to turn the phone on or off without inadvertently pressing one of the volume buttons. I greatly prefer M7's recessed volume rocker to M8's non-recessed rocker.
* THIS MAY BE FIXED WITH THE NEW RADIO FIRMWARE IN THE 1.54 UPDATE: My biggest complaint is the fact that the phone often takes over an hour to connect to LTE even when there is a STRONG signal.
My complaints:
1. The power button being on the top of such a large phone is pretty annoying. I came from the GS3, which had the lovely side power button. This is something that I will get used to though. It'd be nice if they made a gesture to lock the phone too.
2. Since the latest update, my mobile signal has been poor. Where I used to get LTE, I now get 3G only. My wifi signal is fantastic compared to the GS3, but the mobile internet is looking rough. If I don't see improvement, I may need to replace the phone to see if it can get better.
Everything else is just incredible. Even with these complaints, I freaking love this phone!

No you can't.
Only way that's possible is if you're on wifi (obviously).
Here are mine, which I'm sure others have mentioned.
1) Size; I actually prefer the size of the M7 over this. It's hard to reach the power button as someone mentioned and the phone is very hard to hold without a case because it's slippery. It almost feels like I'm holding a gigantic EVO LTE. The m7 felt right in my hands. I was surprised because most of the reviews mentioned that it was easier to hold than the m7 due to the curved back. Using it with one hand is pretty tough because I'm so afraid I'm going to drop it.
2) The Gun Metal Gray definitely scratches very easy. I have a small scratch on the back of my phone already and I'm not quite sure how I got it since I baby my phone like my own kid. i was actually going to wait out for the silver version, but with Bestbuy price matching Amazon in conjunction with their $50 instant credit for people who registered their numbers, I felt like I needed to jump on it for $100.
3) Loss of data randomly (never happened on my M7); I understand there is only one antenna and Spark phones rely on CSFB and that it will eventually be fixed.
No other complaints other than those 3. Love the SD Card, Boomsound Speakers, Camera (Yes I do) and the amazing battery life. I no longer have to worry about running out of juice for the entire day.

I'm very tempted to buy this phone on my upgrade but I know that I do not want to cover it up with a case. My hands are rather grippy on smooth surfaces so I find the gunmetal gray to have a perfect finish. What I want to know is how scuffable the finish is on this phone. I only ever keep it in an empty clean pocket or laying back-down on my desk which is usually clean. Will I have an issue with tiny scratches accumulating in the clearcoat?

I've gotten a couple light scratches and I baby my phone. Not sure how I got them. Never had a problem on the back of the m7.
Anyone else's earpiece crackle during a call or when listening to music? I've been through 2 of them that have been that way. Not sure if its supposed to be this way or what. It's not on the bottom speaker, just the top one.

My Observations
I got this phone as a precursor to replace my 5S, if the iPhone 6 doesn't have a 5" screen. I've only had it one day so far my observations are:
The phone takes a long time to load web pages and play youtube videos
The placement of the buttons is a bit awkward.
The Knock feature doesn't work all the time, nor do the swipe to unlock.
I must've gotten a factory defect, the screen is starting to come off in the upper right hand corner where the front camera sits. How that happened? I couldn't tell you.
I have the Sprint Spark Icon in the notification bar (Spark is in Orlando) but the switch between networks is sometimes slow.
Sometimes to get rid of notifications, I have to reboot the phone. Some icons will stay in the notification area even after the app is closed or I clear it.
Coming over from iOS, not being able to quick scroll to the top of a page is frustrating to say the least. The only place that works is in Blinkfeed, which is pretty cool, IMO, thus far.
Twitter apps for Android suck (can't knock the phone for that though.)
I hate the loud beep you get in your ear when ending a call if you're wearing a Bluetooth.

My only gripe is the stupid HTC in a space not used for anything else. If we are dropping capacitive buttons, give us more screen in that spot... not a space for logo.
