What would be your next choice if there is no NEXUS 5 - Nexus 5 General

Just wondering what is your guys second choice of available no phone out there if nexus 5 never come?
-LG G2

....................

I'd go for the Sony Xperia ZL. It's inexpensive, unique, and has pretty decent specs.

The N5 isn't even released and the General Section is already full of useless threads .

N4
Sent from my Serbian Galaxy Nexus

Thread reported. No offense, but if this keeps going on we can't find the usefull threads between all the crap anymore

This thread isn't as useless as the others I've seen. I'd keep my S3 and try out the 5S. Yea I said it.

Nexus 4 for sure. it has everything i want in a phone.

Kinda redundant as there WILL be a N5 but I'll play along. I'd simply stay with the N4. It works...very well. N5 is new Nexus toy, thus, I must have it!

I'd stay with my N4 for another year

Guys, please, this is pretty much OT talk. xda is mainly a dev forum, not a discussion forum. Discussions are ok, but this thread is useless.

Time Frame/Tell your story here on xda![Archive]

I would like to do a time frame. Where we could talk about our years here. Lets see who is the oldest and what we have gave to this forums.
Personally Ive been here since 2004-05. And basically since its started when it was hard to read the texts on my razor and this was basically Htc only.
This site has been great for me and sometimes missed the simplicity of the starting years. And I believe this forums are the true shapers on the mobile era.
Please post youre time. and a story
I have a few but ill start with loosing my first account. Dont even know how it was called!

And another reason I would like to make a timeframe so please talk about youre device history and how its been youre experience in each thread.

I got my first android in September of last year, within a month I was on xda, and by November, I had an account cause I thought I knew enough to help some folks. I do enjoy the community, even though leeches are always making devs angry (IMO, both their faults). I haven't been around as long as OP, but I know my way around the Nexus S, and android itself!

when I started the threads were a little difficult to understand. and everything was in one main page. where you could find rhe .cab files. but you had to keep scrolling down to find what you were looking. Now its all organized and eye candy.

Bro please stop that before you get banned! youre affecting the course of this thread. Im investigating abut how old is this thread and how long its been effective on the people. I think a great part that since 2003i the % of people buying smartphones has grown from a 20% to 90% has to in great part to forums like this. specially this one. people started to know about hacks and how they affect they to bennefit the costumer rather that the company.
Xda has been the pioneer when people started to know about roots and other methods of hacking the os of their devices. making them better. and having features locked by carriers. Xda has been there to keep this idea forward. and I want people to start talking about xda's evolution. and the we could take this info and make it a news letter for people to continue the tradition which we started years ago!

I for one part started to love this place when I had my Razor. I started to know about firmwares and hack. and every time I searched the web I ended here. there werent the hacks I needed then. That led me to my first account. but it was good to know this was there. and to read about people doing amazing stuff.
This led me to buy my first pocketpc-smartphone. a Treo 750 which I bought from second use and I still have it running a custom wm 6.5 rom with titanium.
Then I bought an Lg incite (wm) which kept me here but most of my time on lg-incite.com
the site grew and my fasination for htc too. not to be surpriced as most of the hacks where make for this devices.... check the history of the first diamond with manila. ( what we call now Sense)
So it led me to buy a Diamond 2
this was another revolution. I was a moderator on the htc-pure forums. but kept my profile here. and was as always morw and more in love with this site as I continued to know that the hacks came from here.
Now on the Dhd I had a bittersweet relation. many forum memebers dont like to keep tradition. But this continues to grow fast. Proof of this is the compact view.
We shall continue making history!

Granted that the General Forum is better suited for arbitrary discussions, this forum is not limited to the dev of a theme or app.
That said... if this topic was a discussion regarding the app's compatibility/issues/performance on the device, it would surely be better received in this forum.
Yes, you need free time, but it's a very nice game.
What I don't like about it is that it's eating battery like crazy.

If what you said is correct, there is +500k application why not open thread for each application? or go to Android Development forum and open 3 or 4 threads asking about what is the best ROM? and see how they will react.
And yes, its for developers to share their applications and experience with others.

Android Development has rules for it's forum indicated by the stickies, there are none in this forum limiting it dev only threads.
Until you become a moderator, your rants are simply your interpretation of what is acceptable and not necessarily relevant nor warranted. I will not be participating in any further debate regarding this difference in opinion, as I find it ridiculous that you choose to monitor a thread that you obviously disagree with in hopes for some kind of affirmation of your viewpoint.

I would imagine that the battery drain would be akin to running Google Maps while walking around the town.
I am still intrigued and would be interested in feedback regarding the game play on the Nexus 4.
My experience... got my invite code, had a quick look and thought to.myself, wtf is going on here. I haven't opened it since.

The battery drain is definitely heavier than using Google Maps. If you want to play you would need an external battery pack to carry around.
As for the game in general, I've been doing runs, attacking enemy portals and upgrading ally ones. Over here in London, there are a lot of popular areas where you can get through 20 to 30 portals just walking around for an hour, so it's been pretty easy for me to grind. If you really want to attack strong enemy portals and create huge control fields, you would probably have to team up with other players in your area.

It runs pretty smooth on the Nexus 4. (Uninstalled Shortly after installing, due to battery drain, and high lack of interest in playing - not enough time to spend walking about between work and other responsibilities)
Installed the app on an old myTouch 4G Slide, and its pretty sluggish (lags, & loads slow) but surprisingly the battery drain is not as quick as it is on the Nexus 4

Don't forget to uproot the following:

> AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II > AT&T Galaxy Note II Themes and Apps > Ingress

Can't fault the OP as they were merely following the protocols established 3 months ago in the other device threads.
I have a question I just got ingrees code today and I was using it and my battery goes from 80% to 65% in like 15 mins is this normal because I like the game but is a little confusing

4.4.3 Thread Locking

Don't see the point in locking any thread that pops up about the bad journalism again today. I mean the general forum is for that...has always been the garbage collector for the forums. Seems kind of communistic of XDA to have its mods do that. Just makes no sense. Well it does make sense considering how XDA has been migrating the last years or so.

So merge the threads. I'm not sure why commenting about T-Mobile updating their site to show the 4.4.3 update is illegal. The threads will continue to pop up because every other thread gets locked and there can never be any discussion.

I'm of the mind that you have to fit in with the community you share, not the other way around. If you opt to join a community that doesn't work how you want it to, then you need to simply find a different one. It's not an emotional thing, nobody hates anyone else, it's just a matter of fitting in socially.
XDA keeps a tight reign on thread topics, content, and direction. That is the decision of the community moderators and thus, the community at large needs to abide by it. If any of us don't like it, then we can move on to find somewhere that better suits what we're looking for.
I've been here for a while (contrary to my 2010 date), and I've seen the moderators back in the day let many, many things slide and it could get really chaotic, really fast. I remember when ICS hit, there was a point where I had to go 3 pages in to get past the multiple topics of ICS release, it was crazy. Also, the moderators are here on free time, and if you've never moderated a community of this size, I'll simply say that "merging topics" can take awhile when you're talking about 30-40 (which happens if you don't keep on top of it). They do their best, lock what they can when they can, and move on with life.
for the TL;DR crowd, it is what it is, if you don't like it, it's time to move on.
I joined a community back then that sadly has been migrating to the negative way IMHO. Used to be a contributor that helped people regardless of if its a dumb repeated question asked 100 times. Sadly...its not like that anymore.

but I think its about conditioning users to not post stuff like that. Just doesn't bring any value. Even when one thread is left open to discuss rumors people keep posting to it for updates until it finally happens.

every single dev here was a noob. i know because i was here a few weeks before android was released(got my g1 2 weeks prior to release), and i personally helped a countless amount of people that have become "devs" here, when they were noobs. id say most devs here were noobs within the last 5 years.
So why don't the mods make a future firmware thread for discussion. This way it's all in one place.
I came from the note 3 and I swear there was thread for every firmware for every region. The mods did little and it was a huge mess.
Ended up not looking in the General section ever again.
Also they would post a new thread for cyanogenmod every time they saw it mentioned on the internet.
But I would like to see one thread for discussion.

[Q] I have a bad taste in my mouth, and it smells like Cyanogenmod...

I am pretty disgusted by McMasterbater and his arrogance.
They make good roms but seem to be getting too big for their boots.
Now they have investors, stockholders and executives to impress, they seem to have lost that original personality of taking stock android and modding it. Now they plan to fork Android much like Amazon have... which is a major change of their personality, and I do not like it at all.
Lollipop WITH GOOGLE is THE best mobile phone experience, so IMO, Cyanogen can go jump in the lake.
What do you think?
Cyanogen have got too big for their boots and should return to what they were doing, modding the lastest STOCK android.
I am disgusted and am going to remove Cyanogenmod from my devices
Screw Google, Cyanogenmod have the right to take the AOSP and use it to their own ends
All competition is good, whether it's from Amazon, Chinese mobile companies or Cyanogen
Who cares
who cares. its not like CM is ever going to run properly on note 4 with its huge array of hardware and software.
I had a one plus and cm worked well. I won't be putting on my note 4 tho. And with their recent shananagans I won't be bothering with them in future on my other devices. They've become money oriented and lost the way big time. In the meantime they are loosing key partners too (oneplus)
No one cares what you do. They haven't lost any key partners. One plus and Micromax paid nothing for their services. It will be one plus who suffers, not Cyanogen. Without CM, no one outside of china would have even heard of OnePlus, let alone sell a million handsets.
What does this have to do with the note 4? Maybe should be in Android General. I haven't tried cm on a note series since the first note.
Never liked Cyanogenmod on my Samsungs, so i couldnt care less
I've always thought they were overrated. I've never used a phone with a stable CM rom, from Nexus's to Samsungs, HTC's to LG's. I doubt google are quaking in their boots at the joke that is CM.

Yep.
Stressed out and back home after a day's work. Was looking for a thread like this and found none. Nexus forums have a lot of these. At least when I used to own Nexus.
So thought I'd go ahead and create one cos I know we've got a lot of users.

Stock for the foreseeable future. When I finally get to the point where I unlock, I'll probably be on an OOS based ROM. OOS is just so good. Plus it'll probably take awhile for aftermarket ROMs to get the dual camera working 100%.

Nice. I think you'll love the device.
Tip: Just don't bother with the negativity in the forum, the YouTube videos and news articles. Needless to say, I've seen people *****ing about the device every which way. This phone has been great for me, I've seen zero issues so far. I got it during the preorder sale.
This is my first oneplus device too. Oneplus has come a long distance from being "just another cheap Chinese phone", when I was skeptical about it, to creating a name in the smartphone industry.
I have been a Nexus fanatic since the nexus 4 but I don't think they are worth the price tag anymore.
I kinda started out like you, interested in Android, started off learning Java, building roms for the Nexus 4 ( I was on a team that built roms called Euphoria OS, now defunct). Then, as everyone lost interest, I shifted to making money out of coding skills. Built a couple of Android apps. Now I also do Python and JavaScript mainly. Its been a fun ride, never regretted my decision.
