[Q] moto x nav key remap? - Moto X Q&A

I am using XDA Senior Member Mohammad_Adib awesome app switcher called Switchr, I just migrated to a moto X and it is my favorite phone yet, after having gs2, gs3,gs4,note2,note3. I cannot live with out a nav key menu buton. since im using switchr I would like to change the function of the app switcher nav key to be a menu key. I have searched everywhere and can only find info on either hardware keyes or flashing a new rom wich im not gonna do cuz stock Is so awesome on this phone. I know that the menu button is the 3 dot version but i don't like it and would prefer a full time menu button in the nav section.

[Updated 7/13/2010] DroidX keyboard - Eris xtrROM theme

All-
Attached is a version of the new DroidX Multitouch keyboard that I have themed for my new release of xtrROM. I am not a fan of white or red and I like the raised key look screen shots below.
7/13/2010 - Updated new file that has a fix for the missing "<" key under ALT. Also fixed the long press on the "(" key. Please let me know if it works
A few notes:
includes fix for the dark keypad number for when you are in a number only field such as blue tooth.
vibrate on keypress has been fixed for Eris (not sure how it will feel on other platforms)
fixed the display of the "&" from "&;amp;" in alt mode
if you long press the "?123" key it brings up keyboard settings
voice to text support works well
[Edit per thenestor]
If you're using a ROM that already has a stock Android keyboard, you have to rename this "LatinIME.apk" and push it to /system/app, overwriting the vanilla keyboard (it uses the same package name: com.android.inputmethod.latinime). If you're using a Sense-based ROM, you can install it like any old APK.
This "should" work across phone platforms and on nonrooted phones however I have not tested.
This is my first themed app so let me know if it works and enjoy!
CREDITS to thenestor for helping me find the keyboard and which libs to use and unknown for the initial pull from the DroidX

I am using zach.xtr's ROM and I tried pushing this (without renaming) and I cannot seem to get it to take. I didn't rename because I don't think zach.xtr's ROM uses the standard keyboard. Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you are trying yo install via an app manager, you probably need to push like the OP states ..... I had to because the ROM I am using had the Vanilla Keyboard already installed
Im using sense and im not rooted. I installed the original white one using adb push and the original black one from this post but this new version fails

Sounds like you may need to rename this one to be exactly the name of the prior .apk that you pushed so that it overwrites the previous file... or you can remove the old one first and then push the new.

EDIT: Oh nevermind. It's right as long as you have the apk in the /tools directory

please help modding

I am trying to mod a 2.2 based dialer to work on 2.3.3. I have extracted both DialerActivityTab.apk's
Then:
1) From the 2.3.3 based, I cut folders AndroidManifest, classes.dec and resources.arcs. All other (assets, META and res) files have same exact date of mod
2) From 2.2 based, I cut the same files out.
3) I then paste the 2.3.3 files to 2.2
I zipped this and put in phone (root Ex>System>app) renamed the original and paste the new DTA.apk
Interestingly enough when I tryed the dialer it went back to the previous dialer! When I go back into RE the icon matches the renamed DTA.apk
So what else can I/ should I do?
i guess the proper question here is, did you actually use apk manager to decompile all this or are you trying to do all this from a zip file manager?

It was all done directly through 7zip, I transfered from zip into zip (2.3.3 DAT.apk to the 2.2 DAT.apk) these were not unzipped and re zipped.
From the tone of your post... this isn't right!

When your dealing with Apks from different os versions there is alot more to it then adding missing files. What from the dialer do you want? They are pretty much the same

I tried this on my first attempt, however it somehow reverted back to the one installed with the rom. What I have been doing (to swap out the original DTA.apk) is renaming it to DialerTab Activity2.apk and leaving it there in app. after palcing the newly created DTA.apk I have selected install.
As you've stated, I too thought it was a simple image swap.

sorry, it's on post #7 with the first pic
This is where I was a week ago. attached are the two drawable-hdpi files from the rom and theme. I originally swapped everything out of the roms dialer and moved the items from the themes dialer into that file and reinserted it back into the DTA.apk and then on to the phone... Was this right. Sounds like the only thing I did wrong was to leave the original DAT.apk in the app folder (on the phone) however I did rename it.

Ok I saw that one. lol Maybe I am a little confused on just what you want to do. The dialer in the pic shows one set up for video call, but most roms for the captivate have that button removed as it is point less, the theme can be brought over if that is what you like. What rom are you on?

Ok I just looked at the 2 files you posted, If you notice there are not the same number of files. I can do it but might not be today. If you would like what you do is after making sure the images are the same size for both, replace the images one by one instead of the whole folder. Only do the images.

Any book style photo browser ?

Hello,
I am searching for an app for my Xoom which would let me browse my photos just like if I was turning pages on a book.
There was an app on the Acer A500 which was perfect, its name was "photo browser 3D", but I couldn't find it for the Xoom.
Does anyone know where I can find this kind of app for my Xoom ?
Thanks
Hey there <s>try using this: http://android.upce.cz/acer/acer_addon.zip </s>(edit: use the one below instead)
<s>It needs the nfs.apk taken out but otherwise the rest should make it work. I haven't tried it yet but will later on.</s>
Edit: I took out the nfs.apk so the download is MUCH smaller.

Thanks a lot ! In fact I tried to copy the files in the LIB directory to my Xoom but I couldn't do it because I didn't have the "rights" to do it. I guess it's because my Xoom is not rooted, right ?
Yes unfortunately you need to have root to do it that route. If you have Clockwork recovery on it you can flash the zip without root

Sadly I don't believe there is. If you dont want to root you can easilly unlock your device and put a custom recovery on it(this is the easy way to apply the mod). If I remember correctly you may need to backup your internal data for the unlock process. Its been awhile though so l would need to double check on that.
Otherwise the only other way would be adb pushing the files to the right directories.

Most of the new features I tried don't work. Better to stick to stock and let moto update us. I'm speaking for the voice actions not the camera.

Works great so far on my Ultra
The camera app on my droid ultra still has same features, looks, and options as my original, did I do something wrong or is it a hardware issue?

Now that the official app is updated dies anyone have a zip to flash to undo the other mod? Seems like some things are still messed up for me.

The update only impacts the 360. It's not the full functionality update yet.

But isn't this about the " Home g6 Ux6 (port for my G2) with appdrawer switch and grid 6x5" ? ....with appdrawer. The links you have is to the home without it.

Yes ok write here to see if people on g5 are interested. This app cannot be installed as 3rd part app, need a custom rom to use it. @onestyle007 tested and every work fine so I will give the download link
if help push thanks
It is not working for G5, it says this apk is corrupt so don't post something broken...or at least, delete it after you see reports that says something is wrong with it...

Corrupt , nah, not really, broken, nope, wrong again, instead of that negative attitude, check your facts first, constructive criticism backed up with catlog is far better.
Replace it with your home using root and see the wonder happening

Ok, thanks for the response. You should add to the OP that this can NOT be installed as a 3rd party app and that a custom rom is needed to use it (rooted device). That will stop others from posting that it does not work. They will know not to try it unless they are rooted with a custom rom. Thanks for the port though.
