Slimport/OTG - G2 Accessories

Okay so i've been trying to look up some information about this and i've heard many mixed experiences
If i purchased this cable
- http://www.amazon.com/Micro-Cable-P..._9?ie=UTF8&qid=1383421001&sr=8-9&keywords=otg
Would it be possible to use both slimport and OTG at the same time
One guy in the comments said it worked on his Nexus 7 but would that same method work on this phone
Id love to be able to use my lapdock for something other than my raspberry pi

Anybody at all?

I really don't think it will be possible, from what I've read on Nexus 4 forum.

The problem with the nexus 4 was that the usb port didnt put out enough current to support it but i read that a guy with the 2013 model of the nexus 7 managed to pull it off
I think it really comes down to what the current over OTG is on the G2
I think the nexus 4 only output 300 mA but i could also be wrong
My G2 is currently shattered due to falling off the table so im waiting until i get my replacement to test it myself

But otg or slimport+otg. Can you share the link?

OTG + Slimport, Its actually one of the comments on the amazon page for that cable, thats why i question it
If there is enough power to support OTG then slimport should work because i believe that slimport is powered over HDMI

How do you use a thumb drive/flash drive with a Nexus 7?

How exactly do you use a thumb drive/flash drive with a Nexus 7? I've seen people talking about using them to expand the memory of the Nexus 7, but the thumb drives I have all have USB ports for plugging into devices and thus won't fit into a Nexus 7.
Am I missing something? Sorry if I am being daft.
you need an otg cable like the one in picture here, that and a rooted n7 and stickmount

Two choices:
1) Read the forums. Difficulty rating: Easy
2) Push the USB drive in as hard as you can. Difficulty: Hard
This thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475 tells you how to root your N7 and then you just need an otg cable which you can buy on eBay for pennies.

Actually, there's the option to mount it without rooting: Nexus Media Importer.
Check the GooglePlay.
However it costs u couple bucks and it doesn't eliminate the cable .

Thank you, guys.
Tutak, that's great, because I don't want to root mine if I don't have to.

Nexus 7 tv out?

Do they sell an Hdmi cable that is compatible with this tab so I can connect it to my tv?

Last I read, the Nexus 7 didn't have MHL capabilities.
I believe this function was going to be added through the use of Nexus Q & Google TV systems. However that's officially on the back burner.

Have a look at the video in this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1874757
I am not sure if u can stream via hdmi fom nexus to TV, but if it is possible this is the cable u would need.
HDMI to Micro Type D
Not mhl compatible, but maybe a future dock will have that.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
the future dock would still require the tablet to be mhl capable, therefore no, there is no and will be no way to directly plug the tablet into a television, what there is hope for is streaming via a nexus q device.
Hey folks, I'm new here. Have been lurking a bit.
I've been bugging Nexus support staff about features/upcoming features.. as I'd expected, they're pretty hush-hush
One guy even fibbed to me, saying that a USB OTG cable and peripherals such as keyboard, mouse, usb drives.. will not work with the Nexus, even if I unlock it. Maybe he just didn't know any better.
Anyhow, I love this little device, but the lack of tv-out in the form of display mirroring is flat-out pissing me off.
I'm not experienced with coding for android devices by any means, but I did have an idea. (If Nvidia doesn't certify Nexus 7 for Miracast sometime in the near future.. it IS a tegra 3 device, so I'm hoping they do. It may be the solution to our problem.)
...This idea could be too fantastic to be a realistic possibility, but I thought it was worth a share..
What if an apk could "trick" the protocol for displaying video via wifi on droid devices?
What if the receiver could detect the incoming signal as a video file, and the app on the device could trick the nexus (or other non-MHL droid device) into treating the screen display as a video file?
Since the latency between displaying video on the Nexus and displaying it on a television via wifi isn't bad (from what I know), it COULD be practical enough for gaming, if it were done correctly.
TL;DR, the app would screen-capture the display, and send it to a receiver as if it were a compatible video file.
Am I just speaking fantasy-talk? Is this feasible? Thoughts?
The tegra3 has wifi streaming similar to apples airplay. The receivers just aren't out yet. Reading up that tmobiles SGIII will have a premium pack with some kind of aircard device that streams video over wifi for $99.
I think we are also waiting on Dlink. You can already do this with a rasberryPi for a good DYI solution.
I'm waiting for someone to make a box and a roku channel that captures streams on the network.

If stay away from RS as they have had huge problems shipping product, any of the Farnell companies have been ok.
I've got two of them, one originally for the Android Transporter..

The german translation is honest: you need an MHL-Device to use this adapter. As we know the nexus 7 isn't configured with one. It won't work.

[Video] Galaxy Note 2 Connectivity demo. Get comfy, its looong!

Its here! The connectivity demo to end all connectivity demos - see what your Note 2 can do! Any questions feel free to ask
Make sure to use the time-stamped navigation links in the video description to get around.
Gear used in the video:
USB OTG cable
Externally powered USB hub (i-Rocks one)
Logitech K400 wireless USB keyboard/mouse combo
Xbox 360 for Windows controller
MHL adapter for Note 2
AllShare Cast Dongle
Datel Retro Wireless Controller - not available any longer as far as I can tell - keep an eye on Amazon and Ebay as it still appears there sometimes
Logitech "For Android" bluetooth keyboard
Logitech "For Android" bluetooth mouse (note that any HID profile bluetooth mouse should work)
Seagate GoFlex Satellite drive
Apps: N64oid, FPse, MX Player, Bubble UPnP, Wind Up Knight, USB/BT Joystick Centre
Beastwars bandcamp page - beastwars.bandcamp.com stream the whole album and purchase there with all proceeds going to the band!
Got to run now, but will add links to places to get some of the stuff a bit later on.
Thanks a lot, I really appreciate the time you put in to show off all these cool features. I'm still waiting on Verizon to release the Note 2 unfortunetly. When using the Allshare dongle does the multi-screen feature work. For example could you watch Netflix and browse the web, and if so is it smooth. Thanks again for the video.
Oh, not tried it to be honest! Can't believe that slipped my mind, I will test it later and let you know.
Can someone please sticky this

OK, tried it, but whenever you watch video it full-screens the video to the external display (it is still split screen on the device and you can interact with the other window, but I don't think that is what you were after?).

is it possible to connect MHL adapter to USB hub (using a converter from 11pin microUSB to USB, if such thing does exists) so we can use HDTV mirroring and USB OTG simultaneously?

Oh that actually sounds pretty nice being able to stream video(hopefully Netflix) to the TV, and still browse on the phone. I was actually kinda hoping there would be a way to do exactly what you said it does. Thanks for trying that out, the days till they release it on Verizon are slowing down even more now.

Is there a specific otg usb cable for the Note 2, more specifically t889 ? I had been searching every scenario , 5 pin, t889, etc. and can't find any that specifically mention for the Note 2. Meanwhile, I read posts and comments about people connecting the wrong usb otg and bricking their phone. What are you using? Thanks~

No, no specific cable, any USB OTG cable should work fine. Never ever heard of anyone bricking a device using a USB OTG cable - do you have links for these posts? I have to wonder what those people were doing if their phones bricked...

USB to HDMI - Slimport - Anyone checked

Hi guys and gals,
I stumbled upon this few minutes ago:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/6499/...ix-slimport-microusb-to-hdmi-and-vga-adapters
It is written that Nexus 4 supports this. But, is it possible to get it working on a Nexus 7? Is there any additional hardware in the N4 that is needed to support this?
Thanks!

This is not possible with the nexus 7. The nexus 4 indeed has additional hardware to enable this feature that the 7 lacks.
The Nexus 7 doesn't have MHL support for this to be possible. The Nexus 4 on the other hand does so that's why it can be used. If I recall correctly the Nexus 7 can't put out any form of video to be broadcasted onto another screen/monitor/tv)

This is not MHL. The lack of MHL on the N7 is well-known. The slimport tech is quite new, and the info on anandthech left the impression that the tablets/phones implement it on a software level. Oh well, a man can dream. :silly:
You already have a thread that addresses this question?

Does OP3 support this otg type c adapter?

Found this http://www.banggood.com/Original-Re...er-For-Cellphone-Tablet-Laptop-p-1042032.html and it looks good, but not sure whether it's compatible with the device. Help please, thanks.
on the site they show a picture of it in a oneplus 3 so I'd wager it is, though its only 4 bucks so why not go for it

That's not a Oneplus 3 though, power and volume buttons are both on the right side.
But one review tested it on a Nexus 6P, if it works on that, then it should work on OP3 too.
If it is USB c then yes it should work. As long as OTG is enabled. I ordered some random usb c otg adapter off amazon and it works great. So yes usb c otg is supported.
