Powerpoint Remote? - Samsung Galaxy Gear

Hey Gents!
Does anyone know about a powerpoint presenter for the gear? this would be totally awesome if i could steer my presentations with my gear
i dont need the presentation itself on the watch, only buttons for for- and backwards (like media player remote).
any ideas on existing solutions or possible workarounds?

I wouldn't try this.
I cannot think of any easy and reliable way to do this. The problem is the phone doesn't have WiFi. So you can't get the phone and computer on the same network. If you could, you could use "Unified Remote" to accomplish this easily.
Possible ways to do this are with Tasker + Autoremote + Null ROM. Or Null ROM + Unified Remote + Tethering (though I'm not sure if tethering would share the device's local network with you or just it's cell network).
Problem is with either of the above 2 possibilities, there are too many parts that can fail, and you wouldn't want that happening during a presentation which is why I recommend not doing it.

Actually, having said all that, look at what I found:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cz.rozkovec.android&hl=en
If you could pair to 2 devices at the same time PC & your note 3 (null rom?) this could work for you.

It'd be easy to do and it'd be pretty cool. Just install NULL rom and communicate via Bluetooth.

Yeah, I pretty much said that. Though I did have to do research to come to that conclusion.

I've been trying to get this to work, however I cannot get the Gear to communicate with my Laptop, so it looks like you have to play the presentation through the phone only, however you you can't install that software on the phone.
More investigation required I think.....

thank you guys for your research and input!
so first way would be to get null rom and sideload a bluetooth remote to controll directly from my watch w/o phone?
is there a way without null?
thank you so much in advance

The reason you'd need Null is because it allows you to be tethered to 2 devices at once. Otherwise, you'd lose the connection to your phone.
Don't be scared of Null. I was, but I really wanted tasker and autovoice/autoremote so I dove in. Null comes with the stock launcher so you're actually not losing anything. You have all of the same features you have now, plus much much more.

This is possible using tasker & autoremote.. Do some research on the two apps.

thank you man!! this helps me a lot, especially that you told me about keeping the stock launche. i was scared because i did not wanted to have tiny icons and fiddly touch controlls on the gear like on a cheap 50 dollar china watch.
i will try it

Yeah. I had the same worries. Good luck. You're going to kick butt switching slides with your watch. James Bond style.

[APP] BraviaControl: Control your Sony Bravia Smart TV

Download from the Store.
I purchased a Sony Bravia KDL-40EX525 a few months ago and noticed that there were official remote control apps for Android and iPhone from Sony but, unfortunatelly, not for WP7 (not even an unofficial one). Since I own a LG Optimus 7 I got curious about this and started to develop something similar for myself, specifically because I hate using the stock remote control to enter text.
I based my work on this blog post http://blogs.msdn.com/b/andypennell...ws-phone-7-5-mango-part-1-ssdp-discovery.aspx. Many thanks to Andy Pennell for that, his post was really helpful and a great starting point.
The app requires you to be on the same network as the TV.
If you want to try this make sure the TV is ON (give it time to initialize the services. It cannot be turned on/off with this app because it has to talk to the IRCC service that is only available when the device is ON). See the screen of your TV the first time you run the app because it requires that you register your device in order to be able to iterate.
I appreciate your feedbacks, suggestions, bug report or questions that you may have.
Tested on models:
- KDL-40EX525 (mine)
- KDL-32HX758 (thanks lordmaxey)
It should work on:

Hi!
I wanted to try your app, but my television (w655) didn't want to agree on that.
Are you maybe willing to share the source code of the app?
Or do you want to check why it's not working?
Thanks!

Hey there,
I've been researching a little bit about it before. It looks like Sony changed completely the way to remote control in latest models, specially W series. No documentation about that. So, the only way to try to discover how it works now, is to have a W series to try with (which I do not have)
Sorry about that.
What you can do is try to discover how the new service works by yourself, so we can expand the compatibility of the App. If you are interested, I can guide you with some clues, tools and techinches I used in the past to do so.
I may open the code, I haven't even considered it but I think it's a good idea.

I've been playing with our 2013 model a couple of days now, and it seems the controls still works (compatible with 2012) but the registration process is not necessary anymore...
Anyway, if you put the code somehwere, i'll try if it works somehow
thanks!

Sounds good, give me a couple of days to set it up and will let you know.
In the meantime, does your device description xml look like this one? http://www.upnp-database.info/device.jsp?deviceId=662 (See Description XML tab). If so, you may want to try ScalarWebAPI service on your modes. In that xml you can get some urls that will return some valuable (or not) information that may give you some clues.

I'm not sure you model actually supports to be remote controlled as it isn't event listed by sony as supported (see supported models above).
Does the app find your model? (be sure both are connected to the same lan)

Hey, sorry for the delay on sharing the code, I changed laptop and had to re-setup my dev env. Will try to have it done for the weekend.
In the meantime...I wonder what all this urls return:
http://192.168.1.54/sony/guide
http://192.168.1.54/sony/system
....
http://192.168.1.54/sony/irCommandProxy
Basically everything under <av:X_ScalarWebAPI_ServiceList> from dmr.xml. Actually, I would try any url available in that file
We should see where getRemoteCommandList api is located (together with other relevant APIs)
In previous models it was returned as a result from http://192.168.1.54/cers/ActionList.xml. It should be somewhere else now.
Also, did you confirmed that there is no registration required now at all?
Thanks!!!

I received an email from the creator of the windows app that works for our 2013 model bravia. (http://falcosoft.hu/softwares.html#sony_virtual_remote)
Hi,
I would like to share my experiences with you, maybe it can help in the
investigation of the new API structure.
1. The registered status is not required in 2011/12 Sony TV models either to
send pure IRCC SOAP messages (or use the X_SendIRCC UPnP service) .
2. The registered status is required to get meaningful response from url
based API functions (e.g sendText, getText, getRemoteCommandList etc..)
So just an idea: You should try to test these new URL based commands with a
registered status. To achieve this:
1. You should make a new registration and send these data with your browser
2. Use an existing registration e.g. Falcosoft's Sony Virtual Remote and
send the program's data with your browser.
I suggest to use Firefox with Modify Headers plugin. For option 2 here are
the required header fields:
'X-CERS-DEVICE-ID' -> 'vaio:11111111-D7A0-11DD-119C-6D990C3C4529' ;
'X-CERS-DEVICE-INFO' -> 'falco_virtual_remote' ;

Interesting fact that that app works for you. I think this is because that app uses some hardcoded data by default while BraviaControl completely relies on the APIs exposed by the services. It looks like some APIs where left there "hidden" for backward compatibility purposes. I think we should try something like: Cannot find the APIs?, try to force the use. In your case, it may partially (or completely, why not?) work.
Anyway, all that json conversation looks like to be the new way to comunicate with the TV, so, it will be nice to implement that sometime too.
Thanks! I have already set up the code in the cloud. Will be sending the details on how to access it soon (Sorry, I don't currently have very much time free for this project, so bear with me )

[Challenge] Why is "because X phone won't work with Gear Manager" acceptable?

[Challenge] Why is "because X phone won't work with Gear Manager" acceptable?
I find this hard to believe and a slightly lazy answer to a common problem. There is obviously code in the APK that refuses to work on any non-Samsung device. Dozens of threads exist with people offering up the entire Gear APK catalog, some trying to get it to work on Nexus & and others.
fOmey and others have reverse engineered the entire ROM, but no one has figured out a way to "fix" one single app to allow it to work with all phones?
Is this not a work-in-progress somewhere? It's certainly not in any thread I have found.
What are the limitations to such a venture? Has it been tried? Is there a copyright issue? What reason has this not been attempted?
Our community has done some amazing things over the years and this site is the go-to place for rooting and hacking. There has to be one sole out there willing to give this a shot.
I am, by no means, a programmer or coder. I would take this up, but I do not have the skillset. Best I can do is go through XML files and the like hoping to find "if X=Z then A" and remove it.
Ultimately this would give us the missing companion to null_ that allows notifications and interactivity (i.e. Music player controls, etc)
So-- any takers?
I have a Nexus 5, even with the app fully running, I can only get the phone call part to work - talk/listen/incoming caller contact name
The way to get around unsupported device is with the GearManagerStub apk
I've had a bit of a search through most of the code, and from what I can tell all the apks are included so can only conclude there must be something in tw framework. Or I missed something...

To load the gear manager app, it is.. You simply connected your gear via bluetooth.
The gear manager app pushes notifications to the gear.
Without the GearManagerStub.apk it fails to load, its depends on this particular app.
It's pretty simple actually - and the same reason Sense doesn't run (well) on non-HTC devices. Samsung's got a huge proprietary framework on their phones that their proprietary apps expect to be in place and depend on. So plopping Gear Manager on a phone that doesn't have the expected underlying s/w causes it to fail or deliver bits and pieces of functionality. Someone could probably figure out which pieces of Samsung's framework need to be in place but if there are a ton of them adding useless bloat (outside the Gear functionality) wouldn't it be easier just to use the Gear with a Samsung phone? And the design point Samsung's chosen (dependency on proprietary Samsung code on the phone for the Gear to work) pretty much tells you that, at least for now, they are happy with restricting Gear sales to owners of Samsung devices. Hell, the SGS4 GPe doesn't even support the Gear.
Just a personal thought, at $299 (I know, it was 30% less at T-Mobile) the Gear's a questionable investment (AKA: a "play thing") as it is. Accepting that key features (of the few provided) are missing to get it to work on a non-Samsung phone seems like a great garage project but not a very good use of $299. Just my opinion of course.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Why would an underpowered device with a 315mAh battery, 512MB of RAM, and a 1.63" display be the best "tool for the job" you described? Especially when it requires a host in near-by proximity for the majority of its functions? It's great what people are doing with the Gear outside the mission Samsung released it for but, like I said before, you're talking about parlor tricks more for sport than serving a function unachievable by better means; some of which are more practical. And if you're trying to use the Gear while driving, especially if you've shrunk the DPI with a launcher, good luck. It's hard enough using the basic functions and S Voice while driving without ending up in another lane. I'm not criticizing everyone's ingenuity and cleverness just pointing out how impractical some things can appear when you take in to account what the Gear really is; a shamefully low-spec, low functionality Android "phone" with a tiny screen that happens to have a wrist band.

Sadly I was able to test extensively using GE, although I did find all the initial APK's installed & completed successfully.
I didn't get a chance to pair up completely, the base keeps randomly rebooting (nothing related to the gear). This could be due a modified gearmanagerstub.apk on the GE base, I'm not entirely sure.
I could easily upload a version of the stub APK, you can give it a go on your nexus ?
EDIT: GearManagerStub.apk : From KitKat Google Edition (i9505) & (Uninstall existing GearManager.apk before testing).

Gear, with null_, requires no host. It can also connect to bluetooth enabled devices other than a phone.
I was motivated but this: http://daisyworks.net/btgarage.html
It's brilliant and exactly what i have needed for years.
Other interesting links:
http://www.smarthome.com/android_apps.html

Fact is, this is not a toy when something like null_ is used. It offers a great deal more functionality in a much smaller and more portable/handy package.
Your bias against the device is obvious so it begs the question: why are you here? Just to raise your post count and stir drama in an otherwise peaceful sub-group? Or, do you own it and you are so disappointed that you refuse to see its potential?
Either way, your negativity will not sway me or change my mind. I know it has potential and I plan to use it fully. The fact that it has a wristband is a feature and a plus.
Oh, and I don't consider something that has multiple times the computing power of the original Apollo moon landings "low specs". <3

Maybe i wasn't clear in my post. I was responding to the phone call portion of the gear. Even without the software installed it still allows the phone calls to be taken and shows the contact information on the watch just like it did on the g4s with the app. All i was saying is that he commented that he was only able to get the phone portion working with the app and i was explaining that you can do that without the app.

Tried it. Same result. 2 gear manager apps still refuse to install - music and weather (I believe because they reply on specific apps?). Nfc setup connection still works. App still works, but no details get sent to watch. Perhaps tw framework hooks in and serves data to gearmanagerstub, then stub sends to manager, which sends to watch?

Yes, from what I understand, the Bluetooth headset part is the only 'generic' part of the watch. It receives data just like a car headset when it displays contact info etc
Just installed that STUB with both the 1.5 and 1.2 GM and both still showed me a 'device not supported" error message.
I spent about 2 hours with Samsung one night and they told me it had to do with baseband version...or that mine was a 4.1 baseband (even though I am running CM 10.2 with 4.3 OS).
Perhaps there is a lockout on older baseband versions?
This is an SG3 phone, by the way.

If you can narrow down which two of those APK's dont install, I can try figure out why.. First step on getting this working is simply identifying what exactly is not working and why.
Once we can get gearmanager running on other branded phones, I'm confident the notifications may work.. or atleast the "more notifications".

Galaxy Gear (null ROM) & iPhone

Hi all,
I am creating this thread so that we can investigate what can and what cannot be done with the iPhone & Gear combination.
Let me first describe my experience so far, for anyone who may be interested. So let's say you want to use the Gear with your iPhone:
First of all you need to have null ROM on the Gear (see respective thread). I have null 15.
You go to full settings and then bluetooth and make the watch discoverable.
Then you go to the iPhone and search for devices (not the other way around).
What works:
1) Basic BT handsfree functionality.
They couple OK and this is it. You have a glorified 300 euro BT handsfree in the shape of a wristwatch!
2) Internet tethering via BT.
If your iPhone carrier settings do support tethering you can also tether the Gear via BT to the iPhone. I have seen that the tethering process works but unfortunately i was in an area of no signal when i did the test (don't have an iPhone right now) so there is no hard evidence. I mean i did not see a webpage loading but i think that tethering is actually device independent. Someone please confirm.
What doesn't work:
1) Notifications (which renders the added value of the whole smartwatch concept kind of questionable)
2) An automated or even manual (but no PC/cloud involved) way to transfer photos/vids taken with the Gear camera to the iPhone.
3) Caller ID with name. I have extensively tried this with both an iPhone 4 and a 5S both on iOS7 and both not jailbroken and when a call is received i only saw the number even if the caller was in the contact list of the iPhone and the native contact list on the Gear itself.
I am searching for a solution for bullets 2 and 3, since i will swap my S4 for a 5S very soon but i do intend to keep the Gear for the time being.
Any comment/personal experience/help will be greatly appreciated.
IMPORTANT UPDATE:
As of June 11, 2014 XDA member @Accounti provided the first (and only so far) solution, regarding iPhone & Gear cooperation.
Ladied and Gents, please welcome CloudNotifier Cydia tweak.
All notifications from jailbroken iPhone can be sent via Web to the Gear (and many other devices, as it is web based). It is not a direct BT connection, therefore NULL ROM is required so that BT tethering is enabled.
I would like to personally congratulate @Accounti for his work and kindly ask that relative posts are done in the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784802
Please let us continue in this thread regarding the iPhone & Gear connection methods.
i tested everything all the day. I can confirm, it works, tethering it's fine, browsing, play store access, email, also I installed Whatsapp and using it.
A problem with this, after some minuts the internet connection become "on demand" so if you receive for example a whatsapp message you don't receive immediately the notification but you will receive the first time you connect to something (for example browsing a page or sending an email).
I'm searching a way to keep internet connection alive or to wake it every 15 minutes just to have live messaging with whatsapp.
I can confirm the problem with the caller Id, i think the problem it's that the iPhone does not push contacts to gear when you pair, and when a call comes the gear look not in the contacts list but in the pairing contacts, that is empty...
---------- Post added at 01:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:13 AM ----------
Another problem, set every volume in gear to zero, only vibrating, iPhone is in silent mode to, when a call comes the Gear makes the ringtone anyway. It's a bad problem for me cause i can't use ringtone at work...
NZ, you do realize all this device needs is an app to communicate with. It is completely possible to make the Gear work with an iPhone.
Someone with some decent IOS App writing skills could make this work.
Stop filling this thread with your nonsense.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
@gidi, did you try bluetooth transfering your files to your iPhone from the Gear ?
Not sure iOS supports bluetooth file transfers, but it should work.. along with bluetooth sharing contacts I believe, I activated that service too

@fOmey unfortunately i do not have an iPhone right now. Maybe will have the 5S within the day and then i will test and get back to the thread.
However, BT file transfer is a no go on an iPhone that is not jailbroken. Truth is that iOS 7 is a little more relaxed compared to older iOSs but i cannot confirm anything.
With a JB iPhone it may be a totally different story, however. There is tweak called BTnotificationenabler that transfers ALL push notifications through BT.
Could you please check what the profiles that the Gear supports are? Also, could you add more profiles, just in case?
Thank you dude!

That's a shame about the bluetooth transfer, although ! The bluetooth notifications is quite interesting.
What profile do you require for the bluetooth notifications ? As for adding new profiles.. I can activate additional services which have been included already, although it's kind of hit and miss if they will work ! .. If it's some weird proprietary services sadly no.
I have included majority of the useful ones already..
Hi Everyone,
I did a little thread cleaning. I think that this thread is perfect for xda. Although xda usually doesn't support iPhone development, I think most of the development here will need to be done on the Galaxy Gear side. As long as people are willing to help and test ideas, I say go for it!
Thanks!

fOmey i will search a little and get back to you.
I will alsotry to get in touch with a dev who has managed to make wonders with iPhone and Pebble.
Thing is, if some basic functionality can be achieved, then the Gear market will truly expand. There are many iPhone users who would love to use the Gear.
UPDATE: It might also be worth it if you could take a look at this: http://support.imwatch.it/downloads/
I have used the imwatch in the past and it can work both with iOS and Android.
Appart from the tethering function, i remember that when pairing with iPhone a special BT profile (do not remember it's name) was utilised that allowed the imwatch to download the whole iPhone contact list over BT.
Actually the Gear is all the imwatch was ever hoping to be and maybe some more!

Good idea Man! Look into the I'm Watch firmware is good, the profile used for sms is the Message Access Profile (MAP).
No way to save contacts manually, the Gear see it as empty. Is there a possibility to modify directly the contact file?
fOmey maybe you know witch is the right file
Just talked to fOmey in the chatroom of his website.
I informed him that jb for iOS 7 is out.
Now the news: fOmey has an iPhone also and i am trying to convince him to invest/waste some time trying to make the Gear - iPhone combination work.
Told him about the BTNotificationEnabler tweak (https://github.com/conradev/BTNotificationEnabler) and the MAP profile that is being used and he said that his ROM may already be supporting it.
If there is anyone with an iPhone and a Gear who wants to see the combination really work, please post to this thread. It could provide some motivation for fOmey!
I know he can do it if he decides to spend some time working on it.

I have activated profile MCE in the current version of null_ which is a MAP profile, I have just finished activating MSE which also is a MAP profile, this will be available in the next version. So in other words all profiles in reference to MAP will be activated in the next version of null_ (16).
Take a look at this page for a better understanding.

fOmey my man if i got this correctly then the MSE (server side) profile should be enabled on the iPhone and the MCE (client side) should be enabled on the Gear.
However, "The MCE device shall use the services of the MSE device only after successfully creating a secure connection", which kind of concerns me.
But again, in fOmey we trust for everything Gear related.

Any workaround for the caller id issue?
With calling id names and MAP the Gear could be the perfect device.

Create Open Galaxy Gear Manager

Ist there some Team/Developer working on an OpenSource alternative to the official Samsung Galaxy Gear Manager? I am the programmer behind OpenFetch (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sindaccos.openfetch) which was just a test to get the HTC Fetch working with any BLE/Android 4.3 enabled Smartphone.
This gave me so much experience with BLE profiles, characteristics and co. so I am searching for some more devs helping me coding an OpenGearManager.
So who is with me?
Regards,
Gamer
Sounds like a great idea hope you get more devs on board
Nope, no work on a OpenSource replacement is going on atm, not in the public anyway.
I´we done some custom Gear apps for the null_ rom but if I´m capable of helping out with this, I don´t know.
I´m sure @fOmey (author of null_) can help out with lot´s of info for the project.
I love the idea !
Pushing notifications to the gear using a open program would be awesome for end users.
Have you checked out M2D ? It would be a great start if you could get the source.
How about an iPhone (Cydia) app that would push notifications to the Gear?
This is the best idea yet. Because of the fact that I'm an idiot I would love to be able to push apps and make other changes via the gear manager. I would think this would open the door for other idiots like myself to get this watch. I am running null 16 but had someone else load it for me. would love to go 22 but don't know how plus I heard you lose settings in touchwiz...a reinvented gear manager would fix this right?
I would like to help, but do not have the time right now. Could it be possible to reverse engineer the proprietary protocols so we can use the apps created for the gear with the open version of gear manager?
I have been looking into this. But there is alot thats way over my head. But i would say its not possible. Not for now anyhow. But anything is possible i guess.

If you have experience in bluetooth communication between devices & JSON requests it may not be as hard as you may think.
It would be a bit of a difficult project tho !
Lets forget about JSON requests for a minute and listen to my theory:
Half of it is done with M2D manager by pacosal, the bluetooth connectivity part anyway... if someone was to code a notification listener for the host phone, we could push the M2D intents to the gear.. simple enough right ?
We then code a listener for the gear to listen for M2D intents, when one of the "notification intents" is received we fire the following intent to show a custom notification.
For a example put this command in adb shell:
Code:
am start -a android.intent.action.VIEW -n com.samsung.notifications/com.samsung.notifications.NotificationAlertActivity -e title Test
This would give basic notification functionality, its not that difficult to code and it would work across all android devices.
If I was confident enough to code in JAVA, I would take on the project myself although with a lack of time to learn and other ongoing projects it makes it hard... in saying that tho I am more than happy to help anyone who is game to make a start !
One of the gear users created a third party app to send notifications to the gear: ATN
If only he released the source, it would be excellent to get an idea how things work.
I'm all up for that iPhone cydia app! I really want a gear but don't like samsung phones. I'd pay for the app too, if you list it for a price, I'd pay up to $15-$20 for it
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
It would be great to have this working, i am currently using ATN Manager and was a pain to get working as you have to find and use a specific version of the app to get the functionality, i posted about it here as well as getting the WatchStyler working on a non-Samsung device (Nexus 5) here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50550974&postcount=129
However you only get a message that you got a notification for some and not a full message to read, while that works while your phone may be on silent it would be great to have the full functionality like with a Samsung device.
Very excited about this! Hope someone can get it going! I'd be more than happy to test as I am sure is with other!
First of all - Hi everyone! I'm a frequent reader, first time poster.
Now to the point. As soon as I'm done with my masters defense (around next two weeks), I'm starting a project that might help with this idea.
I'm basically going to implement an android service that will provide an abstract interface for communication between any android phone with bluetooth capability (if possible, still some research ahead of me) and Galaxy Gear. I haven't decided yet if interaction will be done by intents or if it would be in form of a library or even raw classes. Still if the project will succeed I'm going to try to build the same abstract interface for Windows Phone devices (no intents here, so propabbly as a library). If it proves possible then same thing will be done with iOS, by a friend of mine.
Assuming this would work, someone would have to reverse engineer the Gear Manager, so if there is anyone that is able to do that I will be happy to cooperate in any way I can.
I'm not promissing anything for now, but let's see how will things go.

After setting it up and trying it for a few days I looked around online and I don't see much specifically about this device and if it can be modified or accessed in unconventional ways. can we root it? I would love to be able to cast to it youtube etc. HDMI out anyone? Has anyone else tinkered with it yet? The '1G+8G' marking on the box seems to suggest it has a 1GB of flash presuming to be for the android things OS and another 8GB of flash for apps or media or caches?

The price was pretty low, $50CAD at best buy, I cant wait to see what people can do to hack it. Other smart displays seem to have USB/ADB/Fastboot connections, I havnt found one on this device yet.
I too would like to see some custom stuff on this cool little clock.
Yessss! It would be nice!
Open smartclock
Hi,
Does anyone know how to open this smartclock thanks.
Regards
Bob
We haven't hacked any google assistant devices yet that I know off, in fact, I dont think we even hacked android things yet. I am sure there is somebody that is trying to hack android things. Btw, youtube can be watched on the clock, by going to something like the weather page > taping weather.com > going to the menu > download app, clicking on the download on the app store logo, going to the menu, support, go to apple support youtube channel, taping the YouTube icon. It's only in 480p, I tried it, I would rather watch on my phone or tablet, also the video will stop and the clock will go back to home if you wait to long without touching the screen or wake up the google assistant. Other than that. Playback is smooth.

I plugged in an android device to the clock, and it came up with some message, I dont remember what itsaid, it was either for adb debugging or transferring files over usb. I think it was transfering files over usb. The usb port does allow data transfer. Plugging in a USB mouse will make a mouse show up and can move for example.
It probably isn't much but you can go to ip.of.smart.clock:8008/setup/eureka_info in a web browser to view the basic info of the device
Home Assistant
It could be great to have some custom home assistant displayed on smart clock screen instead of clock
Apparently it's possible to plug in a keyboard and/or mouse to it via the USB port on the back (a cursor will appear).
Just got one of these myself today. Best Buy had em for 40 bucks. Quite the awesome little thing. I'm really surprised I can't find much for it.
I'll see if maybe I can buy a second one to purposely "break" (just in case), and see if I can get anything working on it. The little screen is good quality and has great sound. Would be cool for a mini emulation station of some kind
Update: Realized mine doesn't have the usb-c port under the rubber feet like other's have stated here its supposed to. Really don't wanna tear into the carpeting around it. I have the exact same model as first post
Plugging in a usb keyboard works for typing
update 2: navigated my way to youtube and tried downloading an apk from a direct link, downloads don't work period
update 3: can not get device recognized by a pc via plugging in USB port on the back to a USB-C port on my laptop, also tried USB-A to USB-A, no results
Update 4 lol: Unlocked the bootloader, had to have device manager search online for the driver, but it found it and installed it just fine. to unlock the bootloader, simply type
Code:
fastboot flashing unlock

Hello KaptinBoxxi,
How did you manage to unlock the bootloader, did you use ADB on computer via USB? or directly via a pluged in keyboard?
I'm a bit new to all of those types of hack but I'm very interested in getting into that since this device is small, cheap, good quality and could be a perfect smart display if there was any abilities to extend the frontend to better use cases.
Thanks

Fastboot via computer. Although, if this is the first device you're picking up, I'd recommend it not be. No one's really done much with cracking/hacking Android Things (the version of Android that runs on this) as it isn't a full version of android. Its heavily stripped down. Grab an old phone that has a ton of support for modding/hacking but isn't exactly the easiest and do that. I'd recommend a Sprint variant of the HTC One M7 if you want a real challenge. I had to find my own custom method to S-OFF the device, unlock the bootloader, then ROM it and root it as no tutorials worked that were currently up and I wasn't willing to pay to unlock it. If that sounds a little too high end for now, get something like an unlock Galaxy S4 or Verizon Galaxy S5 and hope its a Toshiba model so you can unlock the bootloader

Thanks a lot for your feedback, I'll start on with something easier and will definitively follow along with this thread to see how the hacking of this device is evolving. have a good day

Were you able to use adb?
I found a deal on this device and am debating if I should buy it. The thing is, I wanna run Spotify on it without voice commands. ;D

You can use a Python Library called Pychromecast to remotely play media on it.

Thank you for the recommendation. I actually meant that I want to control the music from the screen, though. : )
Installing Spotify should probably be possible if adb is working. But, I would still need to figure out some way to launch Spotify without opening the app over adb every time.
I have posted development related resources over in this thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/co...me/lenovo-smart-clock-bootloader-avb-t4130295
Can anyone tell me how install hindi support for the Google assistant?
