[Q] What Apps use the Moto x Motion CoProcessor? - Moto X Q&A

Has anyone found any play store apps that take advantage of the co-processor?

Since when does the moto x have a motion coprocessor? Are you thinking about the iPhone? This phone has coprocessors, but not a motion one as far as I know.

I believe he means the "contextual awareness" core.
Well, this is just a guess since I don't really know how things work in Android under the hood. But I don't think apps would need to be coded specifically to take advantage of such core. My guess is the kernel handles all app requests regarding the sensors and fowards them to the Contextual Core, so as not to unnecessarily wake up the main cores. Again, just a guess. It makes sense to me, at least.

I guess the apps have to wake the main core to run, even with the screen off. But the sensors data should be handled by the contextual core. Just a guess...

I think motion co-processor is the iPhone term, but I knew there was a Moto X analog
one of the two co-processors in the Moto X is designed to show the low-power Active Notifications when the phone moves;

I just didn't know if there were apps that were written to take advantage of it, like Strava has been written to take advantage of the iPhone's.

It will take some time to get used to it, so for now I have disabled it and possibly enable it again when I have time and patience, a screen protector and case for it. To play with the tilt scrolling feature, in the case I drop it.

How do you use the tilt scroll?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I assume you tilt the device up or down and it uses the accelerometer to scroll the page up or down
Sent from my Droid X using Tapatalk 2
As I play with th N7, the more impressed I get. Consider, it has 13 sensors; gyroscope, accelerometer, magnetic field, orientation x2, rotation vector x2, linear acceleration x2, gravity xW, ambient light, corrected gyroscope sensor.

what is this tilt scrolling and where are the settings for it?
Just to know that tilt scrolling is causing wakelocks and battery drains because of that..better to turn it off for now..

It's in Chrome Developer settings. It's when you click on the multiple page button (the little icon in the upper right corner of the browser. Essentially by "flinging," the device, it cycles through the webpages you have open.
Did this feature get sent to file 13?
this is great!!! though it does drain battery.

Possible to get rid of the ungodly shutter delay in the camera?

I turned off auto HDR, and I still have to hold the camera steady for like a second after capturing a shot or else it will be blurry. Is there any way to enable a faster shutter speed?
Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
HDR by definition is taking at least 3 individual photos to capture and combine. This is the delay you are experiencing. IMHO it should only be used for static images. Anything with movement is not a good application for HDR. source, I'm a photographer.
In terms of manual controls, I've not found any for the turbo cam app. Boo.

Like I said, HDR is off. Source: I'm also a photographer.
Hoping this is a bug that gets fixed. The 2014 x is quite a bit faster.
I'm sort of guessing/hoping that moto is putting energy into the new camera stuff for L rather than optimizing for kitkat.
Have you tried changing the aspect ratio? Switching to ART runtime? Trying a different camera app?

I haven't done art, but ive done the others.
the camera is basically useless indoors unless your subject is stationary.
Agreed...For me it was too much as this is my main camera when out and about with my toddler. My S5 still takes better picture for now, so had to return the Turbo..>Will definitely keep an eye on updates etc, because other than that, this phone is beautiful...
Really hoping this gets fixed soon as well. The camera is pretty much worthless as is because of the shutter lag. I tried other camera apps from the market as well and the issue persists.
In fairness I think the N5 camera was worse at release... Source: Someone that knows next to nothing about photography and has low needs and expectations but isn't satisfied with the offering here.
Have you tried using the Google camera app, from the Play Store? I've heard that it has more features and performs better than Moto's camera app.
The camera has the ability to take photos without the shutter delay. This is noticeable when you click and hold to take multi photos. Only the first image has a delay and the rest are pretty fast. Hopefully, a software update will solve the single/first photo issue.

I tried the google camera app from the play store and the problem persists. Also tried every setting in the app on/off. How does a phone of this caliber have shutter lag?

Not seeing anything that helps shutter speed. Tried a few settings and searched the thread but no improvements to shutter speed/lag anywhere to be found. Hopefully a Lollipop update will "fix."
Right there with you. Its so much worse than my old GS3. My number one complaint with an otherwise fantastic phone.

Last year's X and Droids had similar issues, from slowness to colors. They were fixed in future updates.
I'm not seeing this problem. Very responsive for me.
I did take the OTA today though.. I didn't see a changelog, but figured it was just for Advanced LTE Calling..

High frame rate video recording possible?

Now that the 6p and 5x has high frame rate recording, will this be possible to be ported to the Nexus 6? The hardware should be up for it, shouldn't it?
No, the new Nexus phones have different CPUs and image sensors to be capable of the higher frame rate recording.

you do realize that it all depends on the hardware of the device, dont you? if it was possible on the n6, id assume that we would be having it already..

Well, see the sensor should be able to record 1080/60p according to Sony, can't link because of few posts. But it's on the website for imx214.
And the cpu should have no problem either, so I don't see why it isn't possible hardware-wise.

sensor should, and our cpu can handle it(recording slow-mo too). but our device isnt made to handle it for some reason.
Likely due to the memory and other hardware being unable to support it. The bandwidth requirements for it are likely huge, so you need everything working together, and if guess one item isn't capable of handling the throughput properly.

Both cpu and camera supports it(check oneplusone or nexus 5 with l camera), but thanks to Google marketing they would not bring this new features to nexus 6, unlikely but possible.

Is the memory fast enough to support it? What about the emmc flash chip? There is more to capturing high-frame rate video than having a capable image sensor and CPU. Yes, they're big parts of it, but not everything.

I'm not going to start a discussion about hardware limitations or how important memory speed etc, the thing is; do nexus 5 has advantages over nexus 6? do one plus one has very high differences than nexus 6? No, this cpu can support 55 Mp camera and better than opo plus, gpu is better, memory same, ois and other stuff and do you really believe that we dont have this because hardware limitations? Google always does this and will continue doing this. After enough some time (6P and 5X get boring) they will give us camera v3, until then we had to dig 4K crap.

Go get a slow memory card, put it in a DSLR camera, and see if you can take pictures as far as the image sensor is capable of. Maybe you don't think it matters, but it does. My GPU on my computer is capable of 4K resolutions, why won't my monitor display 4K? Again, if one piece of hardware doesn't support taking video or images at a given resolution and frame rate, then it doesn't matter what the rest is capable of.
Then again, I'm sure you have the exact hardware design specs and everything is great and its actually capable of 300 fps at 8K...

OK it matters of course and let's say we have a slow memory and ram (we can record 4k @30fps though), how come nexus 5 can do it? Btw this feature was around for a time but Google itself did not looked into it, and I'm sure with a little bit hacking they can do it but Google rarely give backward compatibility to their devices except os of course.
Maybe the Nexus 5 has different hardware, just a thought? I mean, it is coming from a different OEM and from a different time period, so that would be the first logical guess. Second guess is that, given encryption is enabled by default and that affects the throughput on R/W actions, that it is preventing us from high FPS recording. I didn't design the phone, so it's all speculative. Unless you know a Google or Motorola engineer, you're likely never going to get the actual answer.
Either way though, bloody annoying.
[email protected] is literally the same bandwidth as [email protected] If the hardware can handle the bandwidth of [email protected], the only limitation left is the speed of the sensor. If Sony's sensor can handle the speed required for 60-120fps, then the only limitation left is arbitrary software. Is there a setting in android to make that available, or is it a closed source driver limitation?

I guess so dude!I don't know about stock moto x play camera..but i compared the size of this camera with a better camera...and photo size is much smaller with same resolution, also I think better quality!(at least indoors) ???
I wish if someone can edit this camera to use bright white screen flash on selfie camera instread of this yellow-orange,for more bright selfies!
I installed it, worked fine. Then I said never mind ill go back to stock camera... well guess what you cant. I uninstalled G4 camera, unfroze stock camera, rebooted, and now stock camera crashes when I launch it.
edit: Ok never mind I figured it out. Even after uninstalling G4 camera I had to uninstall the camera update from the stock camera.
By the way I uninstalled because there is a clear lag when moving the camera around, not a huge one but noticeable when comparing to stock. To the people asking if it supports 21mp it does but the UI will only show 16mp but if you look at the resolution of the pictures taken they match stock 21mp resolution.
this is the xda thread for the apps - http://forum.xda-developers.com/2015-moto-g/themes-apps/moto-g4-camera-timeweather-widget-t3382126
I experienced no lags yet and UI shows 21mp.

Possible to port Google's HDR+ to our Moto Xs?

As some of you might be aware Google's awesome camera software with HDR+ was ported to devices running Snapdragon 820/821/835 devices. Now I know for fact we couldn't port that version to our Moto X. Even if could it would cook our CPUs.
But what about the older version of HDR+ that's on the Nexus 6? Can it be ported? It makes a huuuuugggggggeeeee difference in the quality on photos like night and day. Google's photo processing is leaps and bounds better than any other.
Been wondering this for a while as well. I believe it could be done.

Do you know which Snapdragon 800/801 device has the biggest development scene? Maybe prodding over there would be better, if it works for them it will work for us.
Are you talking about the oneplus one? I loved using the old version of google camera and would even like a 3+ version available to everyone. I wonder why google would limit the app exposure?
