Paranoid android specifically asked that no builds are shared at this early stage and previous threads have been locked. Do you have their permission to share this?

Although the pa ui is simple to use, the xposed module "app settings" is very good at delivering per app dpi and tablet ui

nor does he need any permission to share. they themselves put it out, it got picked up by that site, and he shared that site. if they do not want anyone to share, then they should not put it out. that is how it works.

That is not how it worked here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2558519
They said you can build it for yourself, but do not share publicly. That's why it suggests to me that permission should be gained. Not only out of courtesy and respect (as is often the case here on XDA - as well it should) but also as they explicitly came here and requested things not be shared.
The fact it is on github does not mean they want it to be shared. Github is a collaboration tool first and foremost. To say they cannot use the collaboration tool within their own team otherwise it's fair game for people disrespecting there wishes is unfair. Sure. they may now want the build to be shared publicly, and if that is the case, perhaps this thread should be locked as a duplicate and the original re-opened, but I haven't seen any official statement here yet that public sharing is now accepted.
I think perhaps we should ask @ApriliaM3 for comment as the moderator locking the last thread at PA's request

again, they shared it publicly. if they share it publicly, then whoever wants can share it. their permission is not needed. and, on top of that, since they shared it publicly, they also need to provide the kernel source. if not, then they are violating gpl.

no. they have every right to close an xda thread if they want, it it might never be opened, if they dont want. they have that right. but xda isnt the only public website. they shared it publicly, not in private, on another website. since it was shared publicly, it is public now. and anyone who grabs it has the right to reshare it. dont get me wrong, i do not use PA, nor do i want to try it. but, as a rom that is shared publicly by them, they lose the right to say that no one can share it. while it was not public, in a private testing group, they can say it. but cant say it about a publicly shared rom. this thread isnt opened by them, and shares what they share in public on a different site.

Thats just it though, they didnt share it on or to the other website. At least I cannot see anywhere on the site linked in the OP that PA shared a build. Its a quote from a G+ post (and link back) that had no builds then 5 unofficial builds added. So nothing has changed since the last lock. The site in question appears to have done the same as the OP of the last thread which was locked.

that is also a possibility. if that site shared it without permission, than these builds are still public, unfortunately. whoever is the spokesperson for pa will have to take care of it. they can also ask a mod to remove it from here, then a mod will decide if its appropriate to remove or leave(most likely they would remove it). but it is up to them to ask to remove it.

All OP has to do is just point to the Google plus community group page and tell us to download the betas through there. I'm sure they allow linking to their community page at least.

I can't either. You know, they had planned to release something last weekend but the host of their gerrit went down so they couldn't. Do you guys really want a release of PA without Hybrid? without PIE? without Halo?. I mean, they'll give it to us anyways but frankly I don't see the point. Why not use one of the 100 other ROMS with the same features in each while you wait? I mean just look at the ROMS out for hammerhead right now, they're all remarkably similar. Granted if you look at that feature list of the "beta" there are a few standout features but other than that why do you guys want a ROM that won't have what makes PA unique? You've waited 1.5+ months you can't wait a little longer? lol.

No not at all..

I looked also and didn't see any.
You could make a build yourself and cherry pick those things but don't be surprised if it won't boot or if it does you get lots of bugs.
The stripped PA is only while it's in beta. From what I understand, hybrid still has an issue with DPI right now and they're working on combining halo and pie. Plus the hosting issues with their gerrit. I don't think normal PA builds will be too far behind the betas. At least hopefully.
Just check out their gerrit. A crap load got merged on the 18th now that they're back up and there's some cool stuff up for review too. ParanoidOTA, Knock Knock to sleep, battery light, something about voiceplus. Who knows what will and won't get merged but the PA guys are hard at work. They recently switched up their hosting too so now that that's all taken care of, the ball is finally rolling.

Oh I have to give this a try! I have been waiting for paranoid.

All the sweet features like halo and hybrid have been broken by kitkat. That's why they haven't released anything official yet.

They may have been broken by KitKat I have no clue. But PA themselves said that they have build a brand new clean base for 4.4 and are building off of that. So they are making sure everything works great with the new base then the features will be added. I've been using PA 4.0 since that site posted the beta and I can say its fast and smooth just like stock and the immersive mode is great.

Always nice when people use opensource work for their own project and then try to close it down. Good thing GPL does not allow for such questionable practices.

As said, i can remove this license!!!!!
you also have to provide the source for all GPL projects upon request (where you have modified source code, otherwise you can point to the original project), that includes DGO's kernel - and as far as i know he's refusing to release the source (which is illegal and unethical anyway)
you probably just need to use another kernel in that case (there are many good / better ones anyway)
I have promised myself not to say anything about this, everything will be explained in favor of XDA. So it does not matter what we say regarding this issue.
I have stopped all my development activities on XDA.
from my own blog:
Political tags - such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth - are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire. Heinlein

probably because XDA is in fact, right
Not only they are but they have a legal obligation to make people mostly respect the laws. They allow a lot of margin (technically a lot of the rom repacking with samsung's property for example isn't exactly legal) so the XDA hating because complying to a few simple and fair licenses is "too hard" is rather dumb.

Popular Ideas for Development

EDITED per Admin's suggestions:
Hey xda,
I wanted to make a thread for people who are not as developer-savvy as others to share ideas and make requests for mods/roms/etc.
If a request or idea could generate enough feedback or support, developers would be more informed on what people would want or like to see.
Here are two things that I would personally like to see on my Nexus 4.
On your homescreen, when you press and hold the home button to go to Google Now, is it possible to add shortcuts and or folders to the extra space around the ring? This would allow the user to clean up some screen space by hiding frequent shortcuts.
Also, I would like to see app-specific security (pattern, pin, password) protection. This would allow a user to easily unlock their phone but still have the security they would want for their messaging, facebook, etc.
Thanks for reading.
I'll maintain this thread as best I can and put the best suggestions below.
Best Ideas as of January 02, 2013
Ideas will be added to this list as support is generated.
Ideas will be removed from this list as they are developed or "worked-around."
See the post number for more details.
App-specific security (pattern, pin, password) protection. OP, #1
Simultaneously video recording with both cameras. DonDizzurp, #21
Full calculator as a lock screen widget. AlwaysDroid, #23
5 PNGs as your WiFi/Signal bars. kcls, #32
Multiwindow support. DforDesign, #41
i can add the shrotcuts already in aokp. i think. gimme a sec and ill find out.
edit: yeppers. i guess this is what you are talking about. i dont use them. but i might now that you have talked about cleaning up the home screen.

rom control should be built into most every rom. the features they stick in rom control are different though. i would imagine they all have the navbar deal. its best to flash a rom. find its features and then wipe and add a new rom. and keep going until you find the one you like best. after you find the right one... spend the hours it takes to set up your phone the way you want. for instance.. all of this talkin has caused me to want to throw cyanogen on here to see what those guys have been up to.

There's a big difference between posting direct requests in the development forums and posting a thread in the general forum for collecting ideas you think might be cool to have developed one day. There's nothing wrong with this thread and it's not bothering anybody. It's certainly more useful than the hundreds of threads that occur at every device launch complaining about one hardware defect or another. As an amateur developer I think threads like this are cool places to look for ideas that might be fun to tackle.

except for the am dev part. i dunno devving.
So i was browsing the thread and i came across this, and from the title alone i was ready to shut it down......
But i as i read in to it i had to change my mind. The OP is not blatantly making a request to any specific dev. They are simply stating things they would like to see. Now i know this isnt a place to make you phone look cool and i am obviously aware of the rules. But bedoig brings up a very valid point. Some of the amateur dev's might see this as an opportunity to dig in a little deeper. This is not in the development boards and no one is making a specific request from any of the dev's, so i see no reason to shut this down at this time.
However, since i do not normally moderate this board, then i welcome this boards mods _Arjen_, iridaki, eagleeyetom, YZ, TeeJay3800, Diamondback, AvRS, krook6023 to sidestep my decision if they feel the need to.
@oneonezerosix you may want to consider changing the title of your thread to something that sounds a little less demanding. The Dev's here might take it the wrong way (just a suggestion)

suggestions? sure, to an extent
XDA is here FOR the developers not for the average consumer to pressure devs.
as most xda OG's would say: if you want it done, do it yourself...
if you cant.. then try to learn and get the ball rolling and a dev will probably help you along the way.

After reading the post, I can understand your perspective. All that I ask is that you attempt to understand mine as well.
Zelendel stated that, "XDA is a place to come to learn and share your knowledge."
As an amateur developer, I do not know how to develop much of the things that I wish to be able to use. It was my sole intention to facilitate a discussion of new ideas for development from varying levels of skilled members. Even the best developers can dream of new mods/roms/kernels/etc that they may be unable to produce by their own means. Which is reason enough for one to want to request the assistance of others by posting in a thread like this.
If you do not see any value in this thread, then I apologize for wasting your time.
I am not a Dev and get offended for them when someone says "please add this".
But this is a recollection of ideas, honestly, what's wrong in that? Where would the devs be with no ideas?

I wanted to download the ROM "j00m Kitkat 4.4.2 optimized bionic" for the Nexus One. But the user j00m has been disabled and the thread is deleted. Anyone know what happened?
I can't say for sure but as I've seen his Roms posted they appeared to be little more than rip offs of the couple nexus1 devs left, also the op of the threads pandered for money and thanks. My best guess is the real developers got annoyed and finally had a word with moderators.
This is all just speculation though

No malware, I was using his rom [edit: and am using it now as my daily driver]. I actually thought it was [and still is] the best post-Gingerbread rom available. It was basically Evervolv slimmed to 210mb system and a few tweaks for "lazy people" - details here. The mod who closed his thread cited 2 reasons:
j00m's rom wasn't "different" enough (tho I don't know how he can make that call as it was clearly different enough for me and others to prefer it),
j00m didn't get permission from texasice (isn't everything open source? why is permission necessary?)
Ok, thanks for all.
In your explanations I'm calmer
Rules are rules.
too bad, he was one of the best in here, his rom is amazing,

The ROM was removed because it was essentially Evervolv taken from another developer and called his own. We do not allow that without permission as that is taking someone else's work, slapping on a few tweaks and calling it your own. No credit to the original developer, no mention of where the base came from, nothing. It's disrespectful, and is akin to someone taking the lunch you painstakingly made, adding pepper and then proclaiming it's his, with big donation banners around the plate of food. Not what the original developer would like, yes? That was why his ROM was removed. As for the bit about open source, j00m did not post the kernel sources he used, which was violating GPL and against the spirit of open source. While Evervolv is indeed open source, credit must be given if it is used as a base, and permission must be granted for that by the original developer, as we must respect the work of others as well. Without that, or if permission is not granted, the ROM will be removed from XDA.
TL;DR:
Credit the developers of the base
Ask for permission
Post kernel sources
I hope this clarifies some of the issues I saw. Due to the nature of this thread, I will have to close it as I already saw instructions on evading the ban. My PM is however open to anyone with further queries. Thanks

Support
We spend an astonishing amount of time developing this software. We can't spend much time on XDA as a result, so if you need support, please try the following:
1) Search. Search, search, search. Yes, you. I don't care how unique or important your question is, it's very likely someone has adressed it already. Especially if you're even close to new at this.
2) Read our FAQ, which can be found on our website. Carbon FAQ
3) Ask a question in your device forum. Someone will no doubt try to help you. Warning: this help may come in the form of telling you it's a dumb question that has been asked before. See step 1 - such are the perils of asking questions when you haven't done the research yourself. Android is about helping yourself.
4) Ask a question on our IRC channel. Connect to #teamcarbon on irc.freenode.net or click here. You'll find several other Carbon fans and usually one or more devs as well. Please be polite.

What was provided a and then your kernel. Both would not change values

If you're using multiple apps to control it DON'T.
They are more than likely conflicting. NoFrills was the one recommended to me that I found was able to 'lock' the frequencies in the best.

I agree with you and I singled them all out, none worked, Not the built in performance, no frills or ROM tool box.

Also, to be clear - you are using only ONE at a time, right? You aren't setting the built-in performance settings and NoFrills right? Once you install NoFrills, you should disable built in performance... etc...
No I'm doing correctly

I just reflashed the latest official clean (which is a few days behind for my device) and min 384, max 1512 in the built-in performance settings...
Not sure what to recommend at this point.
I didn't notice looking back through the posts if you mentioned you were flashing clean or dirty... I might have assumed poorly, you are clean flashing this?
The 2/2 nightly killed the bluetooth audio info for my car, going to see if 2/4 fixed it. I still have the occasional RAM problems/app killing but I've learned to live with it.

I saw some people talking about AVRCP or w/e that protocol is on the CM gerrit... I think it's an upstream issue.

Do you know which version of AVCRP they are planning to implement? I haven't lost hope for someone to do 1.5, so we can finally browse files and playlists...

Isn't that something that can be only done at the level of the OS? We didn't have AVCRP1.3 until 4.3... I mean it would be awesome to see though!

Indeed, this is an upstream issue.
I don't have any devices which use AVRCP, so I apologize I cannot test it at all.
I'm going to give this another try. Can I use your CM11 kernel as I enjoy the higher processing power?

#WhyNoKernelSourcesYetOnePlus

I created this hashtag so those of us who are still waiting for the kernel sources to be pushed out for OP3/3T, twelve days after the official update to Nougat, can make an active affirmation on Twitter, Facebook, reddit, Instagram and so on... in an organized way.
I am not a developer.
Rather an enthusiastic user with taste for that special flavour on my device.
I'm not trying to start a discussion here, it has already started on development threads.
Now make some noise, but please be civilized.

Honestly, that's a pretty awful tag. Should be like half that length.
They said they don't want to release bad code.
They said 4.0.2 is coming next week.
They are not yet confident with their N releases. Fair enough.

If it's good enough to be publicly released as stable OTA, then it's also good enough for code release.

Code should be dropped with the OTA go spam them on twitter and remind them to be dev friendly

It's not about spamming. It's about asking for the sources. If they drop them before sending the first units when releasing a device they should do the same for new system updates.
Paranoid me is thinking that they dropped Nougat, everyone updated... Gathering data for weeks, going to throw another update our way and release sources after they scrubbed the data suckers.
Putting the tin foil hat back on now
?
So OnePlus when ????
XDA article posted ... Let's hope it helps.

If you release a OTA you release the sources as well, that's how it works here.

People need to put their fanboyism aside, they tell everyone it's the dev phone, bla bla bla. Freaking dev 'un-friendly- sammy release N source after 4 days WTF OP, WTF!?
Ticket.
Just send them a Ticket. Twitter about this. Its a company, so at one point they've to react.
XDA-Developers Urges OnePlus to Comply with GPLv2 and Release Kernel Sources
While XDA-Developers, and a large sector of its user base, have been routinely impressed by OnePlus’ commitment to supporting the developer community, we’ve been anxiously awaiting the release of kernel sources for the OnePlus 3/3T since the release of Android Nougat on December 31, 2016. [...]

Let's cut them some slack, they want it very usable before they release it, its not like they would never
I can't find anything about "cutting some slack" on the GPL license, but it's clear that they have to release the source code even if it is full of bugs.
