About OmniROM
OmniROM said:
The goal of Omni is to experiment with Android development because we enjoy it. Omni isn’t better, just different. It’s another option for the billion Android users out there. Android (vs. iOS and every other mobile OS) has thrived on options as well as the gigantic, talented development community that has emerged to build those options. That’s the beauty of Android – that you can pick and choose from a smorgasbord of devices with varying features and functionality.
Omni is a chance to get involved, no matter who you are. Developers, whether you’ve been developing apps for a week, or ROM features for 3 years, you’re welcome. Users, we know you want to help out, and now you can – Omni actively encourages bug reports and feature requests, which can be added to our publicly accessible roadmap. What’s the point in giving you a ROM, and forcing you to not tell us about any bugs you find?
We also recognise how people use Custom ROMs – we’re all custom ROM users and developers ourselves – the argument that “nightlies are not for end users” is over-used, and no longer valid. We’ve found that the vast majority of users want to get nightly updates to their ROM. For that reason, nightlies aren’t a playground – nightlies are for new features that are finished. You should be able to expect the same stability and reliability from a nightly as you would from a “release” ROM, and can report any bugs that prevent this from happening.
We know not everyone wants to update their ROM daily, and you are free to update as frequently or infrequently as you like. Omni is about flexibility and giving users what they expect – and we are excited to see where the community goes with it.

Installation
You must have second bootloader & TWRP 2.6.3.1 or this ain't gonna work
Download latest Here
Download Gapps XDA thread for PA-Gapps
If coming from different ROM must be clean install. If coming from previous Omni dirty flashing is okay
(Dirty flashing is the act of only wiping Cache and Dalvik Cache then installing ROM)
Wipe data/cache

Flash Gapps
Wipe cache/dalvik cache

Known Issues
You may need to format data for ROM to boot. **This is very rare anymore but still may be a problem**
**By formatting you will delete TWRP backups. So backup your media because you will loose it.
No screenshots as of yet "couldn't capture screenshot. storage may be in use." error. No longer an issue
You will loose Root go here (chainfire's SuperSU) for flashable zip.

Yeah I noticed that too...tried replacing in the build with no success...ended up flashing SuperSU after flashing ROM to get root back, very strange. May pull build until I can get sorted out.
*EDIT*
Seems to be common amongst Omni 4.4 builds seems you need to flash SuperSU after install. I am not a big fan of doing this, the ROM should have this built in.

i think I may drop OmniROM builds for SlimROM builds...

Yeah I thought Omni was just too vanilla for me but seemed to be popular amongst tablets...I'm just not to overly impressed. Another couple of minutes and the sources will be synced and assuming all goes well in about 2 hours of build time I'll have a working build (I build on a whopping 2 core AMD :silly: ) So about 6 pm EST should be ready for me to run a few things and maybe have it available tonight.
**EDIT:
The build is on...

Whooo-hoooo! Lol

Thank you for the offer but hopefully I may have found out my problem and an interesting tid-bit of info...
KitKat was almost a no go for omap4 devices. There is a workaround from Google that Slim does not use in their frameworks but they offer a solution, so that's in and running now...we will see.
**EDIT:
...It's alive!!! running a few more tests but everything seems to working and I'll make a new thread...Consider Omni for KindleFire2 dead

Carbon does not support multi-window that I know of (but I have been out of the mix as of late).
Omni for the KF2 is dead as far as I know (I don't think anyone picked it up)

Project back after very long delay.
Latest from the OmniRom group will try and keep this fairly regular (2 builds a week). First build (acctually second) up is plain Omni with Linaro 4.8 toolchains.
Next build will be hopefully -03 optimized
About GCC main compiler cflags said:
-O1 Optimize. Optimizing compilation takes somewhat more time, and a lot more memory for a large function. With -O, the compiler tries to reduce code size and execution time, without performing any optimizations that take a great deal of compilation time
-O2
Optimize even more. GCC performs nearly all supported optimizations that do not involve a space-speed tradeoff. As compared to -O, this option increases both compilation time and the performance of the generated code. -O2 turns on all optimization flags specified by -O
-O3
Optimize yet more. -O3 turns on all optimizations specified by -O2 and also turns on the -finline-functions, -funswitch-loops, -fpredictive-commoning, -fgcse-after-reload, -ftree-loop-vectorize, -ftree-slp-vectorize, -fvect-cost-model, -ftree-partial-pre and -fipa-cp-clone options
-Os
Optimize for size. -Os enables all -O2 optimizations that do not typically increase code size. It also performs further optimizations designed to reduce code size
Click to collapse

Most recent build is up (from the 25th) No go on the -O3 optimizations. Kernel is built with Linaro 4.8 toolchains by Christopher83 (here). ROMs GCC toolchains are SaberMod 4.8 as well. These make the ROM pretty smooth and it benchmarks very well.

FAQs
+ Q: Whats the difference?
A: Read the disclaimer.
+ Q: Will I get worse performance than the Official CyanogenMod Kernel?
A: It depends on what commits are added. My Kernel only fixes bugs i can fix and which are unsolved and Of course, I will add more features not available in CyanogenMod Official
+ Q: What makes the stock kernel different?
A: You get goodies, and furthermore, better battery life and performance in this project.
More kernel! Cheers!! Happy New Year!

About Carbon
CarbonRom is an aftermarket firmware based on the Android Open Source Project. We are dedicated to fast, stable, and feature-filled roms, honesty and communication with our users, and openness with our code. We like frequent builds, with the very latest and greatest hardware support and fixes. We strive to not only provide you with the best rom we can build, but also to give back to the Android community and our fellow developers. For us, this is about creating something we can be proud of and hope you will enjoy.
Please feel free to look at, build, and use our code on CarbonDev GitHub.
We would like to thank CyanogenMod for their device trees, framework/settings mods and their code that was incorporated into this project. We also extend our gratitude to the devs whose code that we have incorporated. Proper authorship has been maintained and can be viewed on our repository.
Special thanks also go to Slim Rom for some of their features, PA, AOKP, and anyone else we may have borrowed commits from that hasn't been mentioned here. If you feel you have been unfairly left out, please - let us know.
While we make every effort to test these builds as much as possible, we are not responsible for anything that may happen to your device, family, pets, or perception of reality. We ask that you do your part to know your device and know how to recover from problems before you flash! If you have questions, ask your fellow users or ask us in #teamcarbon on freenode IRC.

Support
We spend an astonishing amount of time developing this software. We can't spend much time on XDA as a result, so if you need support, please try the following:
1) Search. Search, search, search. Yes, you. I don't care how unique or important your question is, it's very likely someone has adressed it already. Especially if you're even close to new at this.
2) Read our FAQ, which can be found on our goo.im page linked above. It's new, but expanding fast. Just like us!
3) Ask a question in your device forum. Someone will no doubt try to help you. Warning: this help may come in the form of telling you it's a dumb question that has been asked before. See step 1 - such are the perils of asking questions when you haven't done the research yourself. Android is about helping yourself.
4) Join our G+ Community: http://community.carbon-rom.com This is where we spend the bulk of our time and the best way to reach us and other community members. We update and frequent this community far more than XDA, simply due to time constraints and the convenience of G+.
5) Ask a question on our IRC channel. Connect to #teamcarbon on irc.freenode.net or click here. You'll find several other Carbon fans and usually one or more devs as well. Please be polite.

As cm11 since its based on it...
hi, I could download and test this
considering it is based on cm11, it shares same bugs as always in almost all aosp based roms (speaker whistle, no panorama, and very probably reboots even if i didn't experience them so far, but I've been using the rom very shortly so far!)
only exception is omni thanks to tilal and his latest kernel, that has all of the above working (except for the whistle)
so i wonder why everyone still uses cm's kernel and not omni's?
maybe omni's kernel is not public yet?!
btw, in this rom camera button is working
also, it has many nice features (but no halo it seems to me? or where can i find it?)

If that kernel works with cm11, why not, i'll see what i can do.
Halo feature is not there cuz carbon team working on it and it still not merged. I can cherry pick it but the problem is; if i do that, soon as i will sync my repo, i will loose it.
That means i won't keep u up to date as often as i would, considering fact that im still not a pro , and it represents huge work to me to add it on each new build.
I want to give u guys at least a build or two a week. Be patient that function is coming.

Thank you. Right now the kernel is the most important factor to resolve the annoying blue screens. CM still hasn't worked on it as far as I know. But Omni is was ahead because of tilal and his team.

As I've said multiple times before the blue screens are random - there is no surefire why of reproducing them or of stopping them with the old kernel. The only way to fix it is to use the new 4.3 kernel sources instead as I have done with omni.

one noob question: for the porters to the xperia T of this rom, liquid smooth and others AOSP based roms, would it be just enough to take your new kernel as it is (maybe just recompile it to make it match with their roms) or they too should take the sony sources as you did and work directly on them?
just to understand if the work would be pretty simple (and so we could have soon different aosp based roms all with almost everything working, like now in omni) or if that is not likely to happen
thanks bye!

Great work, will try your amazing rom later.
Been missing Devs making new roms for our lovely XV.
How's battery life on it. Any better than CM11?
Is it stable enough for a daily use rom?
Thanks anyway, will report later with personal opinions...
It is stable...actually as cm11 since its based on it.

Tested the ROM for several hours now.
Battery drain low - comparable to AOKP - ~2%/hour standby.
ART working perfectly.
Just remember: move all google applications out from /system to user space. This way you get greenify to work on them as well, under ART.
Otherwise you need Xposed framework which is not compatible to ART.
This is an awesome job! I've been dying to try Carbon on my Tsubasa, I've seen it in action on a Samsung a colleague of mine has and it's a beauty.
What seems to be in order:
- Active display
- Dark Carbon
- NFC, BT, WiFi (btw, why am i getting better wifi signal on this than on CM???!!!??)
- Pie controls
- All customization options
Problems found: none so far (testing is still ongoing)
Edit: phone builds up heat and stops charging after a while.
Random Reboots count: 3
- while pairing my SW2 with the phone via NFC
- while restoring applications from backup with Android tuner
Best regards!

ART makes the phone reboot a bit more frequently than dalvik. I got 2 in 3 hours and on dalvik none so far. Also google play music seems to have some issues with ART :/

You're right - at least for this build.
Had no problem whatsoever on AOKP though..
Unfortunately the last reboot left me without control of my AR-Drone 2.0 while it was hovering 10m above me  thank Parrot for the stabilizer.
Rolled back to AOKP but i am looking forward to seeing more improvements on this ROM's stability.

Guys u can't compare AOKP, CM (or based on it) , Omni these builds are totally differents...don't even try dirty flash between these roms u will be disapointed...fcs all over.
Then for art don't forget that even CM Team said its not stable yet...

+1 lolll its almost too easy...and about halo it will take a bit more time.
Im moving soon and theres boxes everywhere...soon as im landed to new place i will work on that, it's not that complicated; but soon as i will repo sync i will loose function
Im in contact with someone from Carbon team wich gave me some tips...will try to cherry pick it and make it stay on each update.
He also told me that basicaly, Carbon Team abandonned halo project beceause its causing too much bugs with other functions. So i will test it but if theres too much bugs i won't keep it too.

Man, this ROM is AWEESOOOOMEE! I really Love it. It's the best Kk ROM I've tested on Xperia V
It has awesome customization options.
No bugs I've found in 3 hours of testing with Dalvik.
And I didn't face any BSOD or reboots in these 3 hours
Really thanks for this awesome ROM bro.

[ROMs] CM12-Unofficial, RastaPop-Unofficial and PA-Unofficial(Alpha)

This is my personal build and just want to share with you guys here. I'm not a dev, just an Android enthusiast who knows a thing or two. And a flashaholic like all you guys here in XDA.
It's CM12 but built with Linaro toolchain(ROM side) and has some few cherry-picks like Clock-Customization, Navigation bar height option and smooth-scrolling mod options.
It also has new bootanimation and AOSP keyboard swyping gesture.
SuperSU and Viper4Android will be shown on "Settings" page if you are using them.

I may make an F2FS version and multi-ROM compatibility as well with the stock kernel. I'll give it a try this weekend.
Right now though, you can still make it as a secondary ROM. Just make sure you're on latest 2.8.3 twrp for multi-ROM.
It seems I've been very late to the CM12 ROM party hence the almost no-response here, I understand that. But anyways, I'll still continue to update this whenever I have a chance and since I'm using my own build anyway so I might as well always share it.
Next build, another cherry-pick will be added. An option for smooth-scrolling mod, it will be placed in the "developer option" page.
There is another unofficial stock cm12 thread, but don't let that detour your work. Can never have enough Roms. You've only had it posted for a day. Give it time
New build is up!
Synced CM sources on 17-Jan, 09:00AM HKT
Add another cherry-pick(from Temasek git), smooth scrolling mod options:
/**
* Indicates whether to system-wide-override to enable/disable or not.
* 0 = force to enable scrollingCacheEnabled regardless of app setting
* 1 = default is to enable scrollingCacheEnabled unless app specifies
* 2 = default is to disable scrollingCacheEnabled unless app specifies

*/
You might be late to CM party but you are one of first to publish rom with theme engine. So thumps up for that [emoji106]. Haven't tested it out though.
Looks like CM needs to work more.
In quick settings didn't find much options almost stock one with just the ability to rearrange them. Also no download and upload speeds in status bar.

Found this (Usb storage) under apps section. Bug?

Maybe that's for devices with external SD card or a non-unified storage setup. So when they move the apps to SD card it will show up there. Not needed by Nexus since it's a unified storage anyway.
Not sure though, so many commits has been merged since I last Synced and I didn't check the Gerrit notes much for all the changes. Many awesome features has been merged, kudos to CM, all credits to them.

Yup this is for devices with sd card slot.
Oh, I just noticed one person voted and gave this ROM a 1-star.
I can understand it, but at least take some time to report what problems you encountered with this ROM and I'll see what I can do. The first build has been very solid for me the past few days and this new build today has brought more features and I expect it to be good as well(or better than the previous build). This is CM with some of my personal cherry-picks that I think won't be integrated in CM12.
Please be gentle on voting as it will give different perception to the would-be user in the future(if there's any).
TIA

Would it be possible to get delta updates for the rom?
I have used linaro based cm when i had a Galaxy s2 and i knw the difference and power of linaro optimisations...
^^ I'm sorry mate, but I have no idea on how to implement delta update.
Eeh.. So many unofficial CM roms and nothing is based on CAF All I really need is CAF CM12 built with SaberMod or Linaro toolchain, -O3 optimizations or JustArchi's Optimizations.
(OP pls consider, lol)

From what I understand, CM has a separate CAF branch and when everything is fine they move it to the main branch(where nightlies and unofficial ones are based from). I might be confused, so if anybody can shed a light about this CAF thing, feel free to do so.? I'm currently lazy searching about it , LoL.
BTW, JustArchi hasn't released his optimization for CM12 yet. I know he is testing privately but hasn't released one yet for public.

thx for JustArchi info. well, actually CAF is stable enough even now, I use Nameless ROM but it's just like CM but with more features, no optimizations.. If You could test it and consider releasing it, it would be great (and well, that ROM could be more original) :good: just look how much AOSP CM12-based roms we have:

Btw, I've also compiled an Unofficial Paranoid Android(Alpha). Those who wants to try it, get it from here -> Unofficial PA Alpha.
It also has the clock customization and nav bar custom height cherry-picks.
For G-apps, prefer to use Bank's.
As always, be warned, flash at your own risk.
I'm seeing quite a number of downloads already for PA unofficial build. I guess nobody else are compiling for PA yet? Or at least nobody else are sharing their builds other than me, lol.
Been with it for few days now and it's been solid. I also flashed Franco kernel with it.
Now jumping to Layers/RRO bandwagon.

Her man,
Thanks for compiling these for us. I flashed the pa alpha last night and it just seemed like aosp. Did I miss something? I know they are slowly adding features so maybe that's it and also why they haven't released anything official. Thanks again for sharing your builds with all of us.

Commotio VS Vanir:
Commotio is DHO's take on Vanir. Different UI, scripts, and often testing new features that may be merged into Vanir.
They are 100% compatible and users can pick their favorite. Commotio can be thought of as bleeding edge testing ground for new features and optimizations which may or may not make their way into Vanir

Currently SuperSU has issues, so kindly don't flash that and access root by enabling developer options by tapping multiple times on build number in about device and then enabling root access from there.
Flashing this right NOW, very excited. Exactly what I've been waiting for!
Note to anyone looking to flash the kltevzw variant: the 7 April official vanir build does not look like it has picked up my proprietary files change. It may boot, but definitely won't have radio until they pull it over from CM.

So that commit will hit the next attempted build, but their vendor_samsung repo hasn't had the changes pulled over yet. The nightlies will fail to compile until that happens.

Its the toolchain and scripts which are used to build it. Its more performance focused instead of new features. Install it and then compare to to cm 13 on your device and you'll notice the difference.

Silly question but I use to use vanir ages ago and was mad with features like is this like that or just CM with speed mods/ kernel mods? also cm theme engine is it available or layers?

I see a download for Verizon but just wanted to double check I'm on cm currently so this is safe to flash correct? Does the kernel allow oc modifications?

Its like CM but only essential CM features the rest is AOSP with tool chain optimizations and other debloating and optimizing scripts. You can install it and notice the difference for yourself.

Yes, the latest versions are OK to flash. Don't flash any older builds because they don't have essential files for VZW. The kernel is stock CM.
