I wonder if there will be a xxx-gapps-rom.zip for the 8.9" version soon?

Cool, as soon as I figure out how to get supersu on the hdx ill give this a try! Thanks for working on it!

That would depend on there being a SafeStrap for the 8.9" version soon
This works great on my tablet BTW. Thanks!

Hmmm looks like I might be the first one to try this out. I'm downloading now and I'll report back when it's finished.
Update: Installed the ROM and immediately hit the Play Store. Tried to add an existing Google account but it caused a reboot. Right now I'm stuck on the calculator since I have no nav buttons
Update 2: Tried to enable Wifi, got another reboot.
I'm going back to my stock ROM slot for now, being unable to use the Nav buttons makes this a bit difficult.

Installed and working perfectly. So far everything but gmail works, and works really well. thanks Cpasjuste.

The problem can only comes from the data partition. Did you try to first restore your stock data partition then flash the zip ?

Just tried it. ( Restoring data, flashing the zip).
I can see my apps from my stock ROM so I know the data restore was successful. I'm still missing the nav bar and Play Store still results in a reboot.
EDIT: Just tried it a second time and it seems to be working.

So unlike your flashable zip for the stock firmware this ROM gets rid of the Amazon Video App correct. Amazon video has Prime Instant Video Offline Downloading and that is a killer feature for me. Anyway to sideload that stock APK and have it work?

Here's a video of the end result

thanks
Thank you for making this rom! The only good rom each use gmail error alone!! Hopefully the next version will optimize system and fixes gmail thank you very much!

Ty very much!!!

It does say it removes ALL Amazon background services, so, Sideloading probably will not work, at least not enough for the app to recognize this as a Kindle.

i can't long press anything with this rom... it just flips the screen around. can't get to the apps settings either. also, games like shadowrun always are upside down.

I use Nova launcher and long press works fine. Hungry Shark Evo always starts upside down for me but I guess unlock rotation lock, get it right then relock and it's fine. It's a pain but works. Only that game does that to me so far. Not sure why...

Soooo.... I installed and this was working OK, but random reboots. So I went ahead and wiped dalvik. Now I've got a bootloop. Is there a way to access safestrap?
***edit-fixed*** adb reboot got me into safestrap

The screen flip only happens in landscape mode, not portrait.
Temporary work around is turn on the "lock orientation" in the notification area (left most button), then it won't flip.
A slightly better work around is smart-rotator app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.xdevelop.rotator_t&hl=en
Turn on fix orientation for the apps you want to "fix".

Eclipse ICS 1.2.2, ported by myfishbear, has fully functioning Google Now, with voice input/output included. Just update to the 217 ICS leak and flash eclipse and then flash the google now zip and you're in business
I went with Deodexed/Debloated ROM, and installed the Google Now ZIP from the Eclipse ICS thread. Works great.

I assume you install it through CWM? How is the battery life after installing? Also, do we now whether it is the same version as in this thread or older http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29756226&postcount=2856?

Yes, it's a ZIP you install through recovery. I'm using SafeStrap (essentially CWM). If you aren't using SafeStrap, I do recommend you take a look at it. It's a nice safe way to test ROMs and other things that might be considered dangerous.
I can't really say anything about battery life yet. I've only been playing with this ROM for a couple days. You know how it goes with installing apps, indexing, caching, syncing.. things need a little time to calm down. However, I can't really imagine any of the ROMs being worse on battery.
And Google Now needs time to learn. I've read that Google Now uses the settings for Home and Work locations from the Navigation app, so I set up my work and home locations in there, and it's notifying me with traffic at the appropriate times.
It's probably the same version. 36megs sounds about right. myfishbear has kept everything very current in his Eclipse thread.
Just for reference, I'm on ICS leak 217.
If you want a ton of extra features, than eclipse is the way to go!

Not sure if I did something wrong, but I tried 3 different revisions of Eclipse (including 1.2.1 and 1.2.2). Every time I installed it, I had only 4 of the 5 icons show up at the bottom of the launcher. My corporate email security settings (requires PIN) wouldn't work, and if there are any customization options (like UI settings in other ROMs, or even launcher settings), I couldn't find them.
I've installed numerous roms on other devices, so I really can't imagine what I did wrong.
Boot to SafeStrap.
Make sure SAFE system is enabled.
Wipe Data / Factory Reset.
Install ROM ZIP.
Install GoogleNow ZIP.
Win! (well, win for everyone else...)
I tried Infektion ROM as well. The only issue I had there was the same issue with my corporate email security settings. And the screen rotation bug from CM9.
I tried clearing caches, fixing permissions, re-installing, re-re-installing.
My unsafe system is ICS leak 217, no mods. Works great.
My safe system is Deodexed/Debloated ICS 217 plus GoogleNow. Works great.
Hmm, you should go to the eclipse thread and ask myfishbear if he can help you

My post-count is less than 10. So I'm not allowed to post in the dev thread. Also, it sounds like Eclipse works for everyone else. My fail brings me great shame.

[Q] AOKP and CM clarifying questions

Hey, guys. I'm relatively new to the custom ROM scene, I've been using MavROM for a bit, and it was pretty sweet. But recently it's started crashing in some larger applications (plants vs zombies for example. but that's neither here nor there).
I suppose first I should clarify that I have a Verizon Droid 3 XT862 with Hashcode's Safestrap 3.10 installed. (which is really cool!)
I did some googling, and many suggest that I give AOKP a try. I downloaded KEXEC-JB-aokp_solana_unofficial_Nov-04-12.zip, KEXEC-cm-10-20121103-UNOFFICIAL-solana.zip, and KEXEC-cm-9-20121108-UNOFFICIAL-solana.zip. But here's the thing that confuses me, I've tried all three of them, and they all seem to run fine, but they all seem exactly the same. I was under the impression that these custom ROMs contain no added bloat or unnecessary apps, but all three come with an NFL app, and Blockbuster app, and a few others I can't seem to remove. And in the case of KEXEC-JB-aokp_solana_unofficial_Nov-04-12.zip, does the JB in the filename mean that it's meant for JellyBean compatible phones, or will it upgrade my phone to JellyBean? My phone still says it's running android version 2.3.4, and looks exactly the same as the stock GB OS it came with out of the box. So what's so JellyBean about it?
Am I missing something? Also, what's the difference between the versions I've tried? They all seem exactly the same in terms of cosmetics and functionality, but at the same time aren't bringing anything to the table that my old stock ROM didn't do.
Sounds like ur still booting into stock rom. You have to change rom slots in safestrap.

You're right! Thanks! That didn't occur to me, I had initially tried installing it using safestrap 2.10, but I guess I needed 3.05.
Another question, I now have AOKP installed in my second slot, and it boots fine. But I'm not able to access the play store, and I only see options to setup my Mail and Exchange accounts, but neither of them will let me hit Next to progress to the next step after inputting my password. I'd like to add my Google, Facebook, and Exchange accounts to get all my contacts back, but those don't appear to be options. I chose the Nova Launcher if that makes any difference. Was there a separate app package I was supposed to install with AOKP? I read that the CM series requires a separate package. Is AOKP like that?

Stock d4 JB via kexec

Run stock JB without flashing OTA!
flash this zip to a romslot instead.
REQUIRES SAFESTRAP 3.11 (due to increase in system partition size )
Only tested with ICS boot.img so far but it might work for people who've already flashed the OTA.
This is the Full Bloat edition
might do a slimmed version later.
Download: http://d-h.st/g5f
Bugs:
haven't tested much yet beyond booting and going through setup.
working:
hwc
lcd
1X
3g
4g
sound
wifi
compass
keybaord
capslight
bluetooth
etc...
not working:
???
Edit: romslot 1 only for now
thanks, man. too lazy to SBF, and the OTA keeps failing because I must have modded my build.prop. until I get some time to grab a build.prop from stock ICS or just bite the bullet and SBF back to stock, this should hold me over

No Wifi Tethering?
I just installed this from Rom Slot-1 and it looks good so far, but first thing i noticed was that I could not do Wifi Tethering with Foxfi (or built-in hotspot) It says that the carrier has blocked wifi mode in Jelly Bean... any ideas on how to get around that?

there is an entitlement check in settings storage, looks like there is a way to hack it by editing sql database for settings storage. trying to find an easier fix....
Edit: delete /system/app/MotorolaSettingsProvider.apk and odex and replace with this: http://www.mediafire.com/?e5o6pgju49d0tih (deodexed apk only, no odex file)
wipe data and cache and it might just work. NOTE: wiping data and cache is mandatory.
Confirmed working, and this hack should also work for any stock JB based rom.
edit: it works but deodexing the apk seems to be be causing FCs ,I'll try injecting the modified resources into the odexed apk later

Look for sqleditor in the market, scroll down to settings (the icon with the wrench), settings, then change line 66 'entitlement_check' from a 1 to a 0, and reboot. Built-in hotspot will work

i have a debloated mostly deblurred version almost ready to go if anyone is interested.
todo:
strip out the blur framework files and whatever else is useless.
better tether icon in settings.
mod overlaysettingsprovider settings to not try setting up deleted apks, and set sensible launcher defaults.
replace blur phone/telephonyprovider (this will require resigning all platform/system apks and fixes from hashcode's build for telephony stack)
done:
browser - aosp 4.1.2
camera/gallery gapps version
calendar aosp 4.1.2
removed lots of bloat, and everything available on market.
modded build.prop to make vvm from market work, deleted blur version.
removed entitlement check so tether works.
restored aosp settings icons.
added aosp launcher, works good but has issues with webtop.
Would 'smart actions' work with the de-blurred version if I restored from a Ti backup?
Sent from my DROID4 using Tapatalk 2
I noticed two problems:
- at boot pin is not required
- battery count is wrong
Can be they solved?
The original JB OTA brought the phone to version 98.72.8. It's now trying to install an update 98.72.16 - do you have this update integrated into a flashable file yet?
edit:
Never mind, I grabbed the file from your 2nd link now, and I see that it's 98.72.18. Would be good to just edit the original post and change the link there, so other folks don't go thru the trouble of downloading the old image first, like I did.
Of all the different Blur JB versions out there, this is the only one that wouldn't boot loop or result in a black screen. Granted my Stock ROM slot is still on an ICS version, so I'm sure that is the main problem.
I'm too lazy to want to SBF my stock ROM slot so this is a great alternative for now. Thanks!
Yeah, same here, the other ones I tried would just bootloop.
I'm still not convinced I want to stay with it. I like the "Sleep Mode" option in the powerdown menu in ICS. Also, this one spontaneously reboots on my at random times, I have yet to notice any actual trigger for that.

Replacing CM apps with Google ones

I'm using CM13 right now and the CM/AOSP apps hadn't bothered me till now.
I want to replace the stock CM contacts app, dialer app and clock app with the Google ones that come with the stock ROM.
Reason for this: Contacts app is buggy, Clock keeps crashing and Dialer doesn't have the built-in call blocking feature.
How would I go about replacing them?
If I install the apks, the other apps still show in the app drawer.
Help a noob out
Thanks.

Clean install is better IMO. You can try it over your current setup, but make a backup first, and if it starts to force close apps or give you any errors, perform a clean install.

AOSP apps remover v1.2 | Android 7.x | 11/08/16

Disclaimer: I am not responsible for bricked devices or other issues.
For all of you who likes clean ROM and hate duplication between system and user apps folders this tool will help. This will remove all defaults AOSP apps except launcher and keyboard. I suggest after removing to install pico version of gapps or all of this will not make much sense. Also boot animation will be gone, trim it to the bone
For everything else you may need use Play Store. This way upgrading existing apps will not make any duplicates.
Please don't hesitate to post if you like to see some more apps to be included in this remover.
V1.2 11/08/16

I've noticed this too on my Nexus 6 regardless of ROM- Google Camera does not show up in the PlayStore. Like others have mentioned if you sideload the apk from somewhere like apkmirror it will work. I ran this while doing a clean install of Pure Nexus. Zips flashed in TWRP in this order: 1) Pure Nexus, 2) Full GAPPS (linked from Pure Nexus), 3) B14CKB1RD kernel, 4) phh's superuser, 4) 320 dpi, 5) AOSP apps remover. Google camera was available on first boot. ?
Two possible AOSP app oversights: AOSP keyboard (risky, I get it), and AOSP spell check (part of keyboard app?).
No problems experienced after booting into ROM and getting everything setup to taste. This is now a go-to/must have flash for me. Thanks!

Yeah, on 7.1.1 right now. The Pure Nexus FAQ clued me into these flashables. Adjusting the display size may confuse the DPI change, but a reflash of the DPI zip fixed it for me in 7.0 (and I haven't messed with it in 7.1.1).

Go into settings/apps then click on the cog in upper right corner. Now set your current diaper app as default for phone. This should fix your problem.
any chances to do a flashable zip that could work in all devices?
