Anyone in NYC? - Samsung Galaxy Gear

I have no clue how to root or whatever and was wondering if anyone knows of any place or person in the NYC area that will root my watch for me. I don't want to have to return it because of the lack of functions without seeing what potential it actually has

first of congrats on getting a gear, second. are you wanting to us the null rom or just want the device rooted?

I'm not sure. I don't know wat any of that means. I just want to have more apps etc on it. I've never rooted or nulled anything before. I've read the threads about rooting and null but it's so confusing for fora newbie

I just want to be able to put apps on the watch. The app available in gear manager are crap

What else have you seen though? After you install Null there are a few apps out there that you can install, but a lot of them are not built for the screen/keyboard on the watch, so you might not use them much.
It would be useful to install a custom ROM so you can tinker with it, but it's not like it's going to open the flood gates for you when it comes to custom apps
I work in the city BTW (near the ferry) but I won't be back in the office until next week. I can probably walk you through it though, it's really not that hard.

[Q] Non Root Viper or other audio mod?

so i was wondering if one of the developers when they have time could develop a cool audio mod for bluetooth and headphone access. but for a phone that doesn't have to be rooted. the reason im asking this is because i got the at&t next and i don't wanna mess the phone up. i told someone i wouldn't. i really wanted to otherwise. but the phone has to be in almost perfect condition when i return it next year for the note 4. i can donate a little money to someone that could do this if that's necessary.
Gotta have root access unfortunately. Only option for now is to tweak the eq with an app. Gotta be able to get in the build prop and library for the good stuff.

Pretty sure that hangouts will come fully to the gear... Its Google's most important toll near future. and Samsung will help there, hoe so too

i'm pretty sure gear is pretty much dead for samsung. they never really cared about it since day one.
the only reason to get one is only because of custom rom. i installed hangout on it and tethered it to my phone and now i have fully running hangout on mobile. i can read and reply to messages and so.
samsung did not even bother to let us use onscreen keyboard to reply texts, why on earth would you think they would be working on hangout for it?

we both know that the way about tethering all stuff will not be the reason for long time. there will arrive a custom rom from somebody which will let function the gear with roms without touchwiz. Then we will see if samsung will wait till google watch arrive or they will open up something. surely both opnions could arrive. for now, samsungs watch is there and living.

Probably something similar, but not in the immediate future. I mean someone will do it just to do it, after all this is XDA. I can tell you that in it's current form, I would not want CM on the device. Just too much going on in CM, that it would drive me nuts on Glass. Plus I don't think the Glass SDK is anywhere near the level of being able to allow you to hook into the device enough to implement all the types of features you find in CM.

I got my Gear just under 2 weeks ago, free gift with my new contract, so I guess that kind of counts
Just got my gear this morning from the mrs!! I was wondering if I want to root it, should I not update it? Or what should I do

I got one for Christmas and am kinda disappointed so far. Got it connected but the functionality sucks without all of Samsung's bloatware. Lack of weather no camera uploads no extra apps. Whatnot.
I'm not sure if I want to ROM the watch it give it the full android feel. Plus I love gear managers watch faces.
Is there way I can give the full functionality on 4.4? I'm even willing to download a little bit of bloat.
I just found a ROM that really works for me and it makes me sad to have to lose it.
Please help. I need some direction!
Got one from my wife for Christmas... Haven't really had any time to set it up... Any pointers? (I will read the forums a little later)

It's not the most advanced watch in the world. But works wonders.

I'm loving mine, had it 4~5 days. I'm not sure I want to run null. #1, my eyes are too old to make it worthwhile, xda or g+ on that screen...really?
So while I'm not opposed to rooting and I'm amazed with what Fomey has done with null, can you give me a good reason for null? I'm looking for a good reason, lol.

How about this? I'm also too old to read "fine print" without glasses. But w/Null and Freefalling's theme we've achieved superior battery life and an awesome look!
I use TW instead of Nova but still have Nova installed.

Call me crazy, but I'm one of those guys who likes tw, I was a long time before flashing a rom to the n3. I rooted fast, but with wanam, I saw no need.
So since I'm able to receive and reply to email, texts, calls, I'm not sure what I'm missing, honestly, I'm looking for an excuse to flash it

what do you like about touchwiz? everyone use their gear differently, but i really hated these black and white icons, and you couldn't change how many icons at the same time are displayed.. so if you want to go to voice memos for example, you had to swipe so many pages just to get to that app. i can't stand that. to this day, there is only one custom rom by fomey (bless you). i wouldn't even consider keeping the gear if not the custom ROM. samsung ****ed up big (not the first and not the last time).
As for the face and font colors, I'm sure Samsung will update it with more colors in customization in the future.
Adding more color plates....it is a piece of cake from the technical point of view! :silly:
I got mine a week early and have been loving it since I got it. I think more would get it, if it cost less. It is a very cool and useful watch.
