[Q] LG G2 Verizon (vs980) GPS works with stock but not ROM -- what gives? - Verizon LG G2

I've seen a lot of threads about GPS signal quality issues after rooting and having a rom installed. What I'm seeing, however, is that GPS is effectively disabled with a rom installed.
The GPS works fine with a stock image (tested by restoring nandroid backup of stock) but not at all with a ROM (tested with CM 10 or 11). It's not that there's a GPS quality issue, but rather that there's no GPS signal at all.
When I received the device, I immediately rooted it, installed open recovery, backed up the stock system, and then wiped and installed CM10 stable (which I also backed up). I didn't configure the stock device or allow it to obtain an OTA before I rooted it and replaced the stock image.
If I restore the stock backup, GPS works 100%. If I install a stock OTA dirty rom, GPS works 100%. If I restore my CM10 installation there's no GPS signal at all. If I install CM11, there's no signal at all.
Any idea on what is missing in CM?

Update:
Following suggestions on another thread, I reverted the device to stock (11A), rooted it again, allowed the OTA update to occur, got a GPS lock with the stock image, loaded TWRP, and installed CM 11.
The device has the same issue again.
How frustrating! There has to be some software that's missing from CM. It's clear the GPS hardware works fine with stock images.

Same here - with no solution. By same I mean exact same that when I got my device I rooted/flashed it before I ever let it boot to the stock firmware. I have done the restore dance (unrooting and back to stock) and the GPS works perfectly but when I root and flash any build of Cyanogenmod (10.2 and many 11 nightlies) and/or Hellfire ROM (i believe based on CM) I get nothing - not bad signal, just like you say ZERO signal.
Given I paid full price off-contract for it (killed my DNA and had to have a phone) I'm super bummed as GPS is rather important to me. I however don't want to run the stock ROM as it sucks (save for GPS). And now worst off I can't get the restore that I've done 3/4 times to work - it connects to the PC but it never talks to the phone.
So I too am stuck and really need/want GPS working. I'm going to look at some non CM ROMs and see if I get any different results.
Anyone? Hell at this point I'd send someone $20 if they're able to help get my GPS working in CM!!

Edit your gps.conf file (/system/etc)to match the area you live in. Used to use cm on everything.

Or replace GPS.conf with original copy. It's quite a bit better than the other methods I mentioned.

Which gps.conf do to u recommend we try? One from your first or second post?
Sent from my VZW LG G2

I would try the stock gps.conf file first with the drive link if you are not on stock rom. If you are flashing nightlies, I would use the zip file link. Try the faster gps app if you want. It should give you similar results and it'll make a backup of your original gps.conf.

I am right now using Malladus 1.2.5(which is de-bloated stock) on 12b, but having issues with GPS; however, for me it works sometimes, and I would have to restart my phone to get it full work. Which, do you suggest we use to get it to work full time? Thanks

If you are in North America I world use the stock gps.conf file (with drive link) or flashible zip if you aren't having any luck with that one. If you're not in North America or this two did not work give Faster GPS app a try. If none of those are working, compare your gps.conf file with the stock one... I've always had good luck with gps after fixing the gps.conf file.

Faster gps didnt work or AGps injector
Cut the data from the config file. Copied the file from /system/etc, dropped it in the download folder, pasted over the gps.config file with your file (couldnt get root rights to paste over in ES File) renamed original GPS.config to 1gps.config. Moved my rewritten file to the system/etc folder. Rebooted and got a lock. Why the hell Don't they use this as the normal GPS file.
Thanks for the file.

Had the same problem with GPS after a ROM flash. Tried many tools and only had success with GPS Status (tool automatically downloads AGPS data). I followed the advice to use the stock GPS config file and it worked great. Tested without the help of GPS Status and got a fix within seconds.

[HOW TO] (GT-P3XXX) Get ANY Official Samsung Firmware without a Computer

Disclaimer: You are not a robot. You are capable of making your own decisions. Anything you choose do to your device is your business, so anything that may happen (lost data, bricking your device, zombie apocalypse) during this process is no fault of anyone but you.
Prerequisites: Your device must be rooted with a STOCK Samsung ROM specific to the Galaxy Tab 2 7". I have tried this on my GT-P3113 and have successfully flashed it's official firmware, the P3110 JB 4.1.2 firmware for Hong Kong and Croatia models, and the P3100 JB 4.1.2 firmware for Hong Kong. So, my point is THIS SHOULD WORK FOR ALL GALAXY TAB MODELS.
This will tell you how to install ANY Samsung Updated firmware made for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 without a computer. BE SMART, meaning only flash the firmware that is compatible with your device!!!
Before you do anything, backup your device!!
FIRST: Do the following to get all the tools required to do this:
1. Download the following files to your SD Card:
__A. Download the official update from here . On this page in the left column, there is a dropdown menu. Choose the device you are looking for to get the list of available firmware you can download.
There is a known issue with downloading from this site and getting the file to fully download. Suggestions to make it work: try a different browser.
__B. Download from here:
____a. Mobile ODIN Lite apk from the first post and hit "thanks"
____b. MobileODIN_FlashKernel_P31xx-v2.0.apk from the fifth post and hit "thanks"
__C. Download CWM-SuperSU.zip from here and hit "thanks"
2. Install ZArchiver from the Play Store (or anything else that can de-compress a .tar file)
3. Not required, but strongly recommended to read the info on the Mobile Odin Thread. (you can do this while you wait for stuff to download)
SECOND: Do the following to get ready to perform update:
1. Using ZArchiver (or any other app you use to manage files), extract (unzip) the file you downloaded in step 1 A. Then change the filename extention from "xxxxx.tar.md5" to just "xxxxx.tar".
2. Using ZArchiver (or whatever you downloaded) extract (unzip) the file you just renamed.
3. Install the Mobile Odin Lite apk. Don't open yet.
4. Install the MobileODIN_FlashKernel apk.
5. Ensure your battery is GREATER than 50%.
THIRD: Procedure:
1. Open Mobile Odin light, and do the following:
__A. Choose "Open file..." from the list
__B. Navigate to, and choose the update file (the one you renamed to a .tar file and then unzipped) and select it.
__C. Choose "OK"
__D. Select "Recovery" from the list. On the pop up window that comes, choose "clear".
__E. Now, choose "Flash firmware" from the list and accept any prompts that come up.
- - - Your device will reboot and Mobile Odin will do it's thing- - -
2. In recovery, it may ask you to "Install untrusted zip". Do it.
----- SO FAR you have done nothing to lose user data. HOWEVER, if you are flashing a firmware not specific to your device (in other words, if you have a GT-P3113 and are flashing firmware for a P3110 or P3100), I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET, at this point.
3. In recovery, install the SuperSU zip you downloaded.
4. Reboot your device.
And it really is that easy. Once you reboot, you may need to make a few changes if you are flashing firmware for a model from a different region than you are in. Language, keyboard, etc...
Good Luck!!!
Or you could just use software update on the Tab since the update is now an OTA as well.

That will not really work with everyone. Samsung Software Update knows I modified my tab, so it will not even seach for an update and tells me why. If you are unrooted, rooted in a manner that did not advance the flash counter, or use the "Traingle Away" app, then yes, you could just do it with the on board update feature. However, using this way you can easily upgrade to the latest official software and keep root.
Official update removes su binaries and overwrites the custom recovery with stock. So, superuser and supersu become useless and you can't flash a custom recovery without su/root. To get that back requires a computer.

Opening post, third section step 1 D: you remove the recovery from the list of items to be flashed. Once you complete that step, on the list of all the items on the mobile odin screen - recovery will be blank. If you did do that, then cwm is not the recovery you had before starting this procedure. The link you posted is to a rom that is stock and not rooted. Did you flash it to your tab and then root/install cwm before following my steps?
Always failing. Any other link?
I can add it to dropbox later if you're still having issues...

[MOD] Camera Hack - for better photos (CM10.1 compatible)

I was looking at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1855818 and I noticed that I can do sth. similar for CM10.1 too.
So it took camera.tegra.so and libnvmm_camera.so from cm10.1 and modified them. So the denoise filter is disabled.
The pictures now looks much sharper. I didn't make modifications to anything other.
I didn't tried it on cm10.2. (yet)
Here are modded .so files - works with CM10.1:
http://db.tt/2Lfxuehq - camera.tegra.so paste to /system/lib/hw
http://db.tt/LXdwvJUZ - libnvmm_camera.so paste to /system/lib
And of course set permissions: rw-r--r--
Finally :victory:
Waited the whole time for it
I try it on cm 10.2... will report back

Copied with Root Browser from Rom Toolbox... seems to work
does it work on cm10.2 official?
Wonder is this hack also work on stock JB too? The original version seems like only support upto ICS.
It's based on cm10.1 so it should work on cm10.1 based ROM and on stock JB.
Just tried it on my phone with stock JB (iodak v7 kernel), can't work, both camera and video recording show black screen then prompt out error fail to connect to camera.

It's not misleading at all. CM uses vendor blobs of stock JB. The files are the same. It should work. It would need a bit investigation on why it didn't work for @kw930.

Works fine on CM 10.2.
I'm just wondering if it's mod issue or whole CM/Kernel, but on 1080p recording I get quite low FPS. For sure it's not 30.
Well, personally I also think it's not possible to be used in stock JB (else iodak may not need so difficult to create his kernel in 2 version every time new update release). I gave it a try since it's just simply copy and paste the files through RE and feedback to the TS about the problem I found.
Tested it, now cm camera app makes better photos then LG camera app
Thanks for the hack

I don't know, try and report. Before you do it make backup of these two files on your phone. Nothing worse can happend than message "can't connect to camera". If does happend replace with original files and tell here.
Thanks
@LGaljo can you give a little bit of insight on what you did here?
I am curious if there is any way to fix auto focus + flash on all third party camera apps.
None of the third party camera apps can take pictures with flash and auto focus enabled. I am looking for a way to fix this and what you did here might give me a clue.
Thanks!
Edit:
Looking at HTC One X CM Code i saw that they are using a camera wrapper
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/andr...-common/blob/cm-10.2/camera/CameraWrapper.cpp
From what i understand this stands between the actual blob and the system and makes sure the proper arguments are sent.
Maybe if we could find what causes the flash to take so long on third party apps could make a similar wrapper and sent the appropriate commands.

[FIX] GSM-fix for all AOSP 4.1.x-4.4.x ROMs

This is worked GSM-fix for all AOSP based ROMs by Xcrash (Graycrash on XDA)
If you want have all APN-s just reset default APN`s from settings.
Also attached zip for flash GSM-fix + bootanimation form stock + SLIM perfomance control + touch sound from Liquid Smooth 2.9.
NOTE: if the build.prop in future versions of the ROMs changes, this may cause problems. Don't be surprised if it does. Don't use it on non-4.3 ROMs unless you like softbricks
Please note for flashers in the far future: if the build.prop in future versions of the ROMs changes, this may cause problems. Don't be surprised if it does. Don't use it on non-4.3 ROMs unless you like softbricks

I know this a little outside of the scope of this thread, but can someone provide a proper GSM fix for the stock blur 4.1.2 Rom (latest ota) if possible?

My tutorial on GSM unlock works, no "fix" necessary. Easiest and safest method, other than the Radiocomm method which works too but doesn't always stick. Either one works fine

The stock rom is already nv edited, I was wondering if there were any other steps on 4.1.2, such as build.prop edits.

If its not working then the edit reverted itself. Run through my tut with CDMAWS and it should work
What does this script basically do? What lines does it changes in the build.prop? Does it only change the build.prop or is it working on other files?
I've flashed CM10.2 ROM on my Razr M (Verizon, bootloader and root unlocked). To make all this work in Italy (in GSM mode) I just changed three parameters in the build.prop file:
"telephony.lteOnCdmaDevice=1" from 1 to 0
"telephony.rilV7NeedCDMALTEPhone=true" from true to false
"ro.telephony.gsm-routes-us-smsc=1" from 1 to 0
Everithing works fine now (2G, 3G, 2G+3G, switching networks)... Doea this script add something to my modifications? Is there some other parameter I may change to make the phone work better in GSM mode?
You can use this patch.
This patch is a stable patch and you can install it on every rom to fully enable gsm.
#Postedit
Only now i checked the patch in the first post and that patch is a mod of my patch with some lines removed and with this lines added:
Code:
telephony.rilV7NeedCDMALTEPhone=false
ro.cdma.subscribe_on_ruim_ready=false
I could update my patch if Graycrash can tell me why this mod.
For now you can test both patches and check which works correctly.
Feedbacks are appreciated.

XtreStoLite rom works on ATT S6

Found it in the S6 unified development thread here: (hope the link goes through)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...xtrestolite-deodexed-mod-edition-1-3-t3119968
From stock, rooted (pingpong) rom applied rom and add-on files with flashfire. They use an aroma installer which causes a lot of screen flicker (for me at least), but it's not impossible to get through it. You will see some black screens and extended reboot first time so be patient.
YMMV, but it's running great for me.
UPDATE: flashed at least 6 times over the weekend (rom and add-ons, so does that count as 12?). Had one hiccup where it appeared to hang on exiting the aroma installer for reboot. Gave the phone the 3 finger salute (vup, vdown, power) and it rebooted to continue the install. No knox trip and is as safe as flashing anything else under flashfire.
Thank you for the share and taking the risk...
God Mode works with ATT also.

Is that something you could fix yourself, If seen videos about changing stuff if GPS isnt working? Or is it something broken in the ROM
Basically makes your ATT S6 International!
Here's what it adds
Original Settings
Download Booster
More fluid
More available RAM (In my experience)
Here's what it takes away
Wallpapers
Fingerprint Support
Themes
Many Stock Apps
Fellow ATT Users, ask away if you want to know anything about this ROM!
I believe it's in the rom. The rom creator has it slated for fix in next release.
One ATT user in the original post claims to have no problem, where most others do (myself included). This user also accidently flashed some other rom(s). He's not clear about clean / dirty flashing or wipes. I'll just wait for v1.6 to see how it goes.
There is a flashable add-on pack to restore the removed items noted by NizzleFish98.

Does it still have "my files" app? I like the way it is for non root stuff
It looks like you can add some of the stuff back with aroma, if im reading right.
Does it have the extra camera downloads or can you at least add them.
Fingerprint I could live with out
I like with alliance you seem to be able to modify lots of stuff.'
Does tether work and "OK Google" (I had problems with" OK Google" after installing tethering zip"
Currently downloading files and backing up now.
do I just wipe and flash using flash fire like I did with clean ROM
Running clean ROM right now
Thank for the Input

Not too sure about the addons as I have no need for them but yes everything is used with FlashFire. Just wipe and select zip and boom, you'll be sent to a setup mode that can be a little tricky but not too hard. If you figure out the addons, let me know how they go. Cheers!

You flash the stripped down rom (500mb or so) let it boot up then use flashfire again with the 800mbish add-on zip and just pick whatever you want back ,like peel rmote control app or w/e you want. It's super easy.

Are you sure GPS works as it should? Could you install GPS TEST from playstore and confirm that multiple satellites are locking on. I have installed three times today and I get some partial GPS function, if you consider one or two streets over acceptable.
Also can you forward calls in your phone settings?
yeah gps is not working for me! clean odin install and everything.

Dload and flash kernel and SU from Sevens thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/development/repack-kernel-root-android-6-0-t3232387
After you reboot google play services will start to force close. Itll be annoying but navigate to Settings->General->Apps and find play services and uninstall updates. It should stop after that. At least it did for me

This likely leads into the security FC but trying to access lockscreen options from display also FCs
If u just flash superu it wont reboot, it looks like it wants to but it just hangs on the lg screen.
Also had force reboots by just trying to uninstall apps. I would say this is highly experimental at this point

You have to flash BOTH the kernel and the SU zips. The SU zip only installs the app. The kernel is what actually enables root. And I would use TiBackup to uninstall things atm
Have you successfully got root to work on this port? I could not. Just stuck in bootloop.
Other bug is sd card doesn't read corretly.
Hopefully T-Mobile will have M soon. I really like the feel of it.

my experience so far,
only boots after flashing the rooted kernel, otherwise it gets stuck on the blue led. charging seems to be very very slow - it's estimating 12+ hours to get like 20% or so charge. If i'm not using the phone it appears to be charging at a decent speed so i'll leave it until the morning. Also, trying to uninstall apps causes a soft reboot.

Hello, and thanks for doing this. I can live without Bluetooth no problem, but there are a couple crushing bugs with this build. One being that I cannot uninstall anything (reboots instantly) another is that I cannot access the setting that allows app installation from unknown sources. Or any security setting for that matter. :S
Please advise on possible work arounds.
None at this point. I think we need H811 M bootstack for a full functioning build.
