Just reflash your ROM. I would try a dirty flash first, but if you encounter problems, you should do a factory reset.

By factory reset you mean flashing the rom with wipe?
and what is dirty flash?
and by the way the factory reset won't solf my battery problem. tried it before.

Yes that is what i meant.
Dirty flashing means, that you flash the ROM without wiping first.
Regarding your battery problems, you can always try different kernels. But make sure you let the system settle, before you jump to conclusions. How is your battery life exactly?

or try this...
use your pc to install another launcher from Google Play (nova, apex etc). let it install, then press the home key. your phone will ask which launcher to use. select whatever it is that you got from Play. don't select 'always use'.
then go to settings>apps and wipe data/cache for htc sense. reboot, press home and select sense. see if that helps.
if not, dirty flash is the way to go.

Check out Elemental X Kernel. It supports thermal throttling.

[Q] I'm stupid...Need help.

I've got CM7 running and everything is perfect...But I decided to remove the lockscreen that I had enabled earlier and now the screen is locked and there is seemingly no way to unlock it.
Under the lockscreen settings, I know that I enabled the first and third options thinking that all I would have to do is press the "N" button on the bottom to unlock but nope!
Can anyone help or am I forced to completely reset this.
lol i did the same thing as you to try and see if i could be of any help but i also got stuck at the lockscreen.
the menu button is the two rectangles (to the right of the home softkey) and not the 'n' button. well anyways i tried both the 'n' and the menu soft key and nothing happens. i guess this could be a good excuse to update to the stable cm7 as i dont think this can be undone otherwise
LOL I'm sorry to hear that...I wasn't expecting someone to try the same.
Well, if I have to install a new build, do I simply install over the existing in CWM or do I have to format a section only...I'm happy with the kernel. Do I have to reinstall Gapps?
you can simply reinstall over the existing cm7 build without formatting anything and you dont have to reinstall gapps.
however two things to note:
1. if gapps force close after flashing a newer cm7 build, you will have to reflash the gapps. this has happened very rarely while updating versions of other roms but it has happened.
2. if the lockscreen still stays the same after flashing the new cm7 build, that means that the cm7 settings were not reset. if this is the case, we both will have to do a full system, data and cache format using cwm and then flash cm7. hope it doesnt come to that.
Well you're right...it doesn't reset the system. I'll do the full reinstall tomorrow...thanks though for you help!

Thanks for the adb suggestion but I'm far too impatient to actually wait for help so I reinstalled everything.
Just as well really as I really wanted to jump to the latest version on a clean install. Everything is running beautifully (again). Thanks to all to those that posted here!

Random Restarts

I experience random restarts despite of the ROM I have flashed. I have tried JellyBeer ROM, PA ROM, Stunner ROM, Sweet ROM and many more with their respective default kernel. My stupid phone even restarts in CWM and trying to flash a new ROM.
What could be the issue? How can I get this fixed?
Random restarts are quite common with ROMs under development or if not flashed properly. Update the ROM to a stable version or re-flash the ROM wiping cache, factory reset and see. You can flash a stable ROM to get rid of the problem.

I always flash a stable version of the ROM with a full wipe. Even I format preload, cache, system, etc. Whatever ROM I flash it does not help.
But I simply can not understand what cause the restarts on my phone ?
No harm in just re-flashing a ROM. I face random restarts on the PAC currently, this is a common problem. Else try one of the stable 4.1.2 TW ROMs. Hope you don't face a restart then!
It might be a app you are using. Install catlog from play store and find the cause. You say it happens on all ROMs you flash. Is there any particular app you restore

Thanks I'll try this for sure and let you know. I have installed the app. Can you please tell me how can I use this to make sure what's the problem ?
If you're getting random reboots on TW and AOSP based Roms, I would suspect an app driving the system nuts.

I only use well reputed apps such as Facebook, solid explorer, google handouts, flipboard etc
Facebook App has a good reputation? Would be new to me. Look at their app reviews and star(s) on Google play.
try a proper stock rom with en see if it happens.

Option 1>>>Open Catlog and press record and minimize it has it will start the log process. Use your phone normally and see anything happens.
Option 2>>>I would suggest you one thing flash any ROM best choose CM base ROM and flash gapps and reboot. Don't sign in to google just cancel the process and add it later from settings. Live it stock without loading any apps and see if it reboots for you.
Option 3>>>Might be a faulty motherboard don't know. Was the case when you brought the phone in the first place?

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it mate. I have clicked the thanks button
Once I got the phone it was working fine. I'm not sure about the power button too. I'm working on it to figure out whether it's the kernel or the ROM the power button.
You can try the following:
1. re-flash the samsung stock rom ....i would recommend you go with Official ICS Rom 4.0.4. Perform a clean data wipe, cache and dalvik cahe.
2. Do not use any other apps other than whats included in stock rom. Observe carefully for 2-3 days.
3. If all goes smooth, you can try installing well-known apps like facebook, whatsapp, etc etc
4. if you still have issue, i suggest you change your battery. Go for the official samsung battery only. Observe your phone's behavior.
Hope it helps you
HAve you ever tried to change the battery. I saw lots of Note batteries gone bad after 9-12 months. I could be the reason. Not sure though.

Updating rooted device

Hi
So I rooted my device several months ago and of course can't update it the usual way through the phone, so I've been stuck on 4.2.2 for ages.
I can't seem to find anywhere with straight forward instructions on how I can update my phone to the latest version running on non rooted phones, if anyone could provide links or details on how to do so it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi Purdy8TV, i would recommend the following rom - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183023
and follow the instructions below:
You need:
HTC One unlocked with htcdev.com (S-ON) or S-OFF
Custom recovery
Firmware package from here (recommended but not needed for now)
Read this flashing guide - [GUIDE] Complete Flashing Guide | Rooting | Going Back To Stock
How to flash:
Download ROM and place it on your virtual SD card
Boot your phone in recovery mode (vol down + power)
In main menu, select "install zip from sdcard"
Select "choose zip from sdcard" and browse to the location of Android Revolution ROM
You can use data wiping option in AROMA (optionally if coming from earlier version of my ROM, obligatory if coming from stock or other custom ROM)
After flashing process is complete, reboot the device
Hope this helps

If you mean your stored photos, music or anything on your SD then no, it won't wipe it.
You just have to set up your phone again.

Is there a way to avoid doing this, don't want to set everything up again/lose texts etc.

You can use Titanium Backup for example to backup your apps. It will backup your apps and their settings. Bear in mind though that if you backup system apps that the backup data might not be compatible with the updated apps from the ROM. You should be safe with things like text messages etc, but it's best to know this in case you run into any issues.
If you are running Sense you can use HTC backup which has worked for me, but I can't remember how much of the settings are saved. HTC backup definitely saves your home screen layout though, that much I remember.

You could try to dirty flash, but i wouldn't recommend it, 9 times out of 10 users have experienced all kinds of issues, ie FC's and random reboots. Backup your data using HTC Backup and perform a clean install would be the best way to go.
Good Luck for whichever way you go....

Cheers for replies
Well finally flashed the rom, wiped my data, done it twice now. Every time I try to restore with titanium back up it goes fine, then I reboot and I hang on the HTC One Beats Audio screen. This sucks.

Did you backup just the user apps or system apps as well? I've done this process several times and never had any issues. The only time my phone hung was when I installed a custom kernel. But flashing a ROM and restoring from a tb app backup never caused issues. Does it work fine before you restore from tb?
Not sure to be honest must try that, thankfully my TWRP backup worked and my phone is back to what it was before, unfortunately on 4.2.2.
I'll give a go tomorrow of getting to 4.3 without losing everything.

By any chance your extreme lag also affects the audio performances? I and a friend of mine had in the same period (for 2 weeks) EXTREME lag, signal lost on mobile network. The lag was so powerful that even music was interrupted. The only way to get rid of this was rebooting the tablet.
The most awkward part is that the bug persisted over ANY KIND OF ROM/KERNEL. Even the official one from Google Developers (any android version).
Best part: It was fixed by itself. Lags started to be increasingly rare and at some point they stopped.
I tried to catch some logs...at the moment of failure, just once they pointed me to some lines in the source code...so I quit trying to figure it out what happens..
I had the same problem, I solved it installing SlimKat, but probably you can solve it with any custom rom, I tried many times to restore 4.4.2 but always the same, only installing custom roms seem to solve it...
I remember it, is like a nightmare to me, turn the tablet On and let it 5 minutes before open any app, open Google Play and see how it lags, installing apps always causing freezing... It remembers me my Windows XP years...
At the beginning i let it thinking it will solve itself, haha, after months I was about to broke it with a stone

If you want to keep the official rom you can just try to reflash 4.4.2 wiping everything, just copy to PC the files you want to keep and after flashing copy again to tablet, i would recommend you to copy only important data, not everything, and specially not copy the folders with strange names that you dont know what they are

Before flashing anything try to restore the tablet, copy all your stuff to PC and format it by going to settings / backup and reset / factory data reset and checking to wipe all on internal memory/sdcard
It will wipe all your data, apps and everything, so be sure that you dont forget anything to be copied to pc.
Maybe it solve the problem without flashing
About root and flashing:
You dont need it, but you can root it if you want after flashing,
I dont know how much you know about flashing and all that, so Im gonna make you an quickly tutorial
Basically all you need is:
Nexus root toolkit from here: www.wugfresh.com/nrt/
4.4.2 firmware (can be downloaded directly from the Nexus Root Toolkit)
And be sure that you have copied to PC everything you dont want to be deleted, you can just copy all to PC and after flashing copy to tablet only what you want...
On tablet turn on USB debugging, on developer options (To unlock it go to settings /about tablet /build number and click it many times until it says "you are now a developer", then go back and you will see it)
When its done follow the Nexus Root Toolkit instructions to "flash stock + unroot" (by clicking a button with that text) you should select Android 4.4.2 (KOT49H) and check the option "automatically download"(dont remember what the option says exactly)
And the tool will download it and tell you when you have to do something. Just dont disconnect the tablet until the tool ends its job
Maybe you should install some drivers if you get an error message like "device not found"
If you want to know more about insalling drivers, you get any problem or something else just tell me, but maybe im gonna make you wait because tomorrow is my birthday and I wont be checking it for few hours.

Be careful about "Returning to stock" method as I think Google broke their "flash-all.bat" from the arcvive of Android 4.4. Flash every file by your hand. I used that idiotic flash-all on any android version, but on 4.4 it completely broke my motherboard by flashing wrong boot.img.

Okay, I was no sure that you also format "SD card" factory reset do not delete user data/sd card on some devices and Im not sure if in N7 you have to check the option

If thats true then try to flash 4.3 and install 4.4.2 by OTA, just select 4.3 instead 4.4.2 when you are about to flashing
Ok,
I flashed the nexus 7 2012 directly to the factory 4.4.2 using the nexus root toolkit, and everything is working fine without problems, at least for now.
The tablet isn't giving exchange errors, and doesn't hang everytime, but I only used it for some minutes, lets see how it works after some days/intensive usage.
Anyway, as I said, I flashed to 4.4.2 directly using the toolkit, and it worked without any problem
Thank You!

[Q] Help! Post-boot reboot loop after installing JB WiFi Tether

I'm running stock 4.4 on my rooted Sprint HTC One.
I've been trying out tethering apps to try to find one that works. After failing with several of them, I came to JB WiFi Tether. It also didn't work (simply prompted me to choose a tethering plan). I had read a review that suggested it might work after rebooting. It did not.
Now, I've uninstalled it, but my phone reboots itself roughly 90-120 seconds after booting, every time. I've wiped dalvik and cache in TWRP, to no effect.
What next? I'm not opposed to doing a factory reset if that will fix it.

Save all of your personal data off of the phone and do a factory reset. If that doesn't work then you may have to re-install the stock firmware and/or stock rom.

Thanks very much for the response! Should I do factory reset from the bootloader or from TWRP (is there a difference)?
Basically everything is saved since I did a backup in HTC Sync Manager very recently.

I would do it from TWRP, because it will warn you if it wiped your OS. I would use the bootloader if I was completely stock.

I'm so glad to be back in business. Now if I could just get tethering to work.
