[Q] NFC there or not ? - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

I just bought a S3 alpha and i checked the specs on many pages and according to the page its supposed to have NFC and a temperature sensor (might be the battery one) but my phone seems to not have NFC which is weird....right?
Any ideas, or did i just misunderstand it all and no SC-03E has NFC or....?
Im running ProBAM KitKat and the NFC option is there but it doesnt turn on...and running a sensor app shows no NFC ...... im a little confused ?

I don't think that model is covered by this I9305 forum as its a different phone ..
If it has NFC then the NFC apk is in root system/apps

Android Beam?

I want to send something over nfc to my friend who has a nexus 4. When I turn on the nfc and tap our phones together nothing happens. How do I setup android beam?
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
I had the exact same issue, didn't get enough time to find a solution though.
Interested in this as well
Works ok here, initiate NFC and android beam on the Nexus, get something on screen like a picture, touch phones, allow it to send, tried it with note 2 and galaxy s3.
There is an app that you can use too called Superbeam
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=superbeam
Hmm. I'll try again. I got confused because there is no android beam option under the nfc button, like there is on other phones
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
i had the exact problem, which initially i thought my NFC was dead...
turns out that when you put the phone back to back, the location of the NFC is not at the center of the HTC one...it is located just below the camera
so, try to align the nexus 4 (i'm not sure where is the NFC point for nexus 4, i used htc one x and galaxy nexus) to the NFC point of the HTC one...
it should work... you'll get a sound notification when both devices aligned...
don't forget to turn on NFC on both phones...

I just tried it again today with a friend and I tried to send a contact over NFC but nothing happens
When you and your friends phone touched, is there a sound notification? Make sure you hear a sound which means both devices recognises each other...
Have you tried sending others like app or pictures?

Ya I was thinking same thing , and wanted to freeze it, but, can you do me a favor ? If you go to the More tab in settings, then cellular networks, dose it say global ? I think this sprintDM is responsible for the default setting "Global" ( I'm on at&t ) I get better signal on global than I do the LTE setting at work . I don't wanna freeze sprintDM because if it removes Global you can't get it back without a Factory reset .
If yours says global still and u get good signal I wouldn't change it .

I changed mine to LTE a while ago. Ever since I switched it from global to LTE the global option is no longer there( this was before i froze it)I can access more options in the dialer by dialing *#*#4636#*#*
Here are the additional options I am talking about. I never had a 'global' mode in this menu, but one of them might be what you want. Also you can select the band you want.

Ya it will disappear if you change it . I tried that also while back , and it will bring back the global settings but it won't stick after reboot . A factory reset is only way I've found to get it back , there was definitely a major difference between global and LTE for me , I think sprintDM is responsible . I'm going to need mess with it when I have time to factory reset or TWRP backup ... But I think your 100 % right on what it is .
Appreciate your time

I thought it was in my head , but I tested it at work ( LTE and global ) LTE wouldn't play YouTube in my building and usually dropped to 3g , while global gave me a strong LTE signal with no drop and youtube plays fine .
Anyways thanks agn

AT&T, I have always had a horrible signal within my building at work with any phone , but this N6 and global setting its been great . Maybe the nexgen APN settings have something to do with it also , but Global is picking up something LTE isn't for me .

I may try messing with the settings to see if it gets better. All carriers are bad where I live. My LTE download speed is ~5mb/s and upload is ~1mb/s. It can peak much higher but general it's terrible. This was the vase for every phone I've used out here. What bands does global LTE use which would give you a better connection?

I found this explanation searching through reddit:
"SprintDM is the hands free activation service Sprint has been loading on their phones since the Evo4G way back when. If not longer. It has been running on all factory images on devices on Sprint's network just as long.
On Nexus6 there's carrier specific services apks for all USA carriers. Seems that was one of the deals Google struck with the cellular megacorp devils to get them to carry N6."
That seems correct from what else I read. Here is another explanation which is basically the same thing.
" SprintDM is required to trigger the Sprint hands-free activation. If this phone is to work on Sprint at a moments notice, it will need to be there."

i keep this phone in global (im on sprint) and i see sprintdm running also.
whenever i initiate the update prl and /or "update device config" the sprint dm app launches to run these.
im stock not rooted.

is Z3C docomo japan version worth buying ?

i found it on ebay for a very good price
http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNLOCKED-SO...008?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item339ce86cd8
is it any different then the international version software and hardware wise?
is it possible to flash international or custom roms on it?
what do ppl think is this version worth buying?
i'm using z3c docomo. since december, docomo z3cs were sold on taobao, and a lot of ppl in china are using it.
yes, you can flash international version roms using flash tools.
afaik, there is no official bootloader unlock of docomo z3cs,but giefroot with locked bootloader is possible.
but, since the nfc chip is different between docomo and international versions, using a non-docomo rom will break nfc, and you must adb block com.android.nfc or you will get battery drain.
block nfc will lose features like android beam, cause play memories mobile app to fc(i guess so),and turn on ultra stamina mode will be a bootloop.
also, i feel the touch is a bit too sensitive ,eg. in system setting, the list sometimes scroll a bit when you lifting up your finger.
someone has reported that touchscreen is normal when using a docomo rom, but i doubt it, because there are some reports in this forum about touch issues of international versions.
finally, the docomo logo on back panel is not as nice looking as sony's, but you can change the back panel by yourself.

i am using Z3c docomo version. i flashed my z3c using international version rom. after flashed it, NFC cannot be turn off. @defia there is 'R' symbol on status bar which means roaming on my network. even it was roaming, i don't get any extra charge. but it is litle bit annoying to see that symbol show up in status bar instead of 'H','H+','LTE',etc..
is it band related? because when i check it, it has JAPAN band, there is no options for another bands.

Hello!
Did you managed to get rid of the roaming (R) icon above the signal bars?
I know there is also the NFC problem, but that one doesn't bother me, I don't use the NFC functionality so I disabled it and there are no problems.
Roaming problem on the other hand, whenever I disable the Wi-Fi or I go out of the Wi-Fi coverage area, I keep seeing the notification:
"Data Roaming"
"No connection. Data roamning is off."
I have tried all suggested solutions from different sources and none of them worked:
1. Installed various firmwares (D5803, D5833, Global, Central Europe, USA, etc) - I live in Romania, Europe and I use "orange" oprator. (no luck)
Extra info: I also tried the branded firmware from Orange Romania but didn't work, still roaming...
URL: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/list-stock-firmwares-d5803-d5833-t2906706
2. Rooted (with 4.4.4 and also with 5.0.2). (no luck)
Extra info: I just rooted the firmwares from D5803, didn't try the original firmware SO-02G.
URL: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/how-to-root-backup-drm-keys-t3013343
3. Updated radio bands (Before I was seeing only JAPAN band, now after update I see them all EURO Band, JAPAN Band, US Band, etc) but unfortunately... (no luck)
Extra info: *#*#4636#*#* -> See screenshot
URL: http://forum.xda-developers.com/cro...ad-progress-please-leave-im-updating-t2871269
I ran out of options, if anybody can suggest other things I could try to get rid of the Roaming I would be really grateful
Thank you!
I have the same problem, my z3 compact is from Japan, Docomo SO-02G, I cannot seem to remove the annoying Data Roaming notification. I also checked the GSM/UMTS Setting, only Japan Setting was available. Anyone with a fix for this?

Are u now using Z3c docomo version ? If yes, it means that your current carrier's network is not registered in the phone (or something like that). All you have to do is root, install xposed then run the module name "National roaming" then you can get rid of the Roaming icon, actually it's not affect to the phone's battery or anything, just the display icon problem.

I'm kinda a new user and I'm still trying to learn my way around rooting and all that stuff. My phone is not rooted yet, so I guess I'm still so far away from getting to the solution. But it's comforting to hear that there is a solution, although not yet tested but I am optimistic about it.
BTW, you said you are already rooted, I would love it if you would update this thread after you try to suggested fix.
I'm still learning how to do the rooting, and I'm not the fast learner type.. hehe..
by the way is your phone a NTT Docomo SO-02G also?

Yes, my phone is also NTT Docomo SO-02G and I hate it already! Just because of the two problems (NFC + Roaming) but at least I am grateful that due to this problems I was forced to learn so many things and managed to install various firmwares, root, upgrade basebands...
Believe me, I was a an iOS (iPhone 4, 4S, 5) user for the past 3 years so this means a lot to me (managing to do stuff on Android) )
I will give it a try tonight and then I will let you know if it works
The problem is I have installed and rooted Lolipop and unfortunately there is no stable version of xPosed for Lolipop, only an alpha version which requires some extra package to be installed and I didn't managed yet, but I will downgrade to 4.4.4 and then install the stable version of xPosed and try the "National roaming" module.
Keep in touch.
Alas!
WOW! This is such a blessing, I was actually hoping for someone else using SO-02G because I'm in tons of dilemma, whether to use this or that or what to do or not, because majority of the english help and guides as we know are from the international version. You are heaven sent, I would surely stay connected, given that I am in the process of learning to do all those stuffs in my SO-02G..
Found this All-In-1 guide here,. May I ask, Did you use this guide in all the processes you did?

Do you have a link to the CSC file your talking about. I could use it also. I just got my note 8 yesterday from the same place you picked yours up, thanks

yeah it's in my thread here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73858645&postcount=17
But I redid it last night after someone confirmed that they didn't even need the Note 8 CSC files, and I deleted out everything for other carriers so the new file is only about 120mb instead of 300-something.
I can post that up after work if you want to wait, uploading is blocked here at work for some reason.
Have to add that wifi calling still doesn't seem to be working, but VoLTE does since calling does not drop me from LTE. I have no menu settings for either still, but after doing a full reset, reflashing etc I have the wifi calling quick toggle but it doesn't seem to turn on all the way - the "on" color is light-grey instead of white like everything else (dark grey when off) and in the System UI tuner app, no icon is set for Wifi Calling or VoLTE.

Howdy. Did you post this anywhere yet? My phone is on it's way. Thanks for the seller tip.

Yeah it's in my Exynos T-mobile CSC thread but I've got a better smaller one now. I took a pack that @TEKHD made for the S8+ F variant and switched out the files with Note 8 T-mobile files but there is a little bit left to go to make WiFi Calling work on our N950N, VoLTE works, HD voice works, video calling works, but I'm still trying to figure out what's missing for WiFi calling. It's menu isn't even showing up yet.
Current flashable zip is only 88mb and I'm fairly sure whenever I figure out the remaining files that need to be copied over it won't be much larger.

Right. The better smaller one is the one I'm looking for. I already had downloaded the older/larger one, then I saw your post.
Is the smaller one available?

I'm about to do a factory Odin flash to stock and test the latest version - if it works properly I'll post it up with a link - though I don't want to step on anyone's toes since the core script and idea belongs to TEKHD.
Fair warning as far as right now I still haven't figured out why WiFi Calling is missing, I set up this the same way he has his S8+ pack for their F variant aside from adding a few framework files that I found referenced in the Tmo Wifi Calling apk that don't exist on a factory Korean N950N but are on the Tmo ROM, and my theory if this next attempt doesn't enable WiFi Calling is that the N950N is fundamentally either just missing more files that need to be in place for it to work and I haven't found them yet, or that it has different/incompatible versions of some files that the T-Mobile Wifi Calling needs to function.
In other words I have 2 more things to test, then I am going to try fully wiping, flashing an N950F-based ROM and apply the T-Mobile WFC pack to that, since the S8/S8+ options that enable it for those folks are for the F variants, not the N variant but the F and N have the same hardware.

Sounds good. I went through the same things with my Note 2 years ago. I figured it out and got WiFi Calling working.
Fwiw, I have no interest in Wifi Calling on my Note 8, as my signal (also T-Mobile) is always good, and I use Hangouts (or whatever) when I'm on Wifi, for free calling.
I don't have Note 8 yet, but will order soon from the same seller as you.
Do you have any other suggestions for getting everything up and running for T-Mobile (except WiFi Calling), or is simply flashing the CSC file?

If you don't care about Wifi Calling yeah I would say just root, custom kernel, and flash the CSC. You'll get VoLTE, HD voice, video calling etc
