[Q] I dropped my HTC One in the toilet, and it's not working at all. Can anyone help? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It was in the toilet for a second or two. I then took it out immidiately and turned it off, wiped off any excess water, and left it in a bowl of rice, rotating it every few hours, for 48 hours. I have tried to turn it on this morning, but have had no luck. The screen is just blank, and the phone does not react when I put the charger in. The led green light doesn't come on to say it's charging, and neither a laptop of computer are recognising it when I plug it in. Does anyone have any idea what's wrong with it, or is it just completely dead? It's a new phone on contract, and I really can't afford to get a new phone. Or does anyone have any idea how much it would cost to repair it?
Any advice or tips would be really appreciated!
Thanks

48 hours in rice ... did you apply any heat
did you shake the excess water from the phone.
centrifugal force also helps to remove water from the device.
Heat your oven to 200^F (it's lowest setting) turn it off wait about 30 min then place the glass bowl of rice and phone in it for an hour until the oven has completely cooled. wait another hour and try and charge the phone. This is about equal to leaving your phone in a hot car. but heat really accelerates the removal of water

I put a lamp (which gets quite hot) over the bowl of rice, which kept it very warm. I did this five or six times for one to three hours at a time to evaporate the water which hasn't helped. I will try the oven now. Thanks for the tip

well if you have already applied heat it's not sounding good

[Q] Broken Cappy (Water Damage?)

Hello XDA, I'm hoping you guys can save my Cappy.
I had a rather big Saturday night of which I have no memory, and upon regaining consciousness Sunday morning my phone wouldn't turn on. I though no worries, its probably just flat, so I plugged it in and went back to sleep, when I tried to turn it on after waking, I got the Download screen, but it was red. I immediately took out the power and pulled the battery, and fearing water damage, placed it in a bag of rice, where it has remained since then.
TL;DR
1. I think my Cappy got wet, its in rice, is there anything else I can do.
2. If its not water damage, any other ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Not really.. if you've damaged your hardware, then you've damaged your hardware.. not much anyone can do about that.
You can try leaving it with one of those moisture absorbing silicon packets you occasionally find in new shoes or electronics, if you have any laying around.
I dropped my Cappy in a sink full of water and saved it by leaving it in a container full of rice for about 24 hours. Worked great. However, if the phone was exposed to water and it wasn't completely dry when you plugged it in to charge, you may be S.O.L. The last thing you want to do is run an electric current through wet circuitry. At this point you've done all you can. You just have to wait and see what happens.

Problem with cool down mode.

well, my phone fell into the toilet yestedey, i pulled it out inmediatly, dried him, and turned it off. I waited 20 min and when i thought it was dry (yes, i now know that it was REALLY STUPID to do that) i turned it on, it booted normally and it works perfectly fine, but after 40-30 min, it enters in cool down mode. Thought it was because it still wasn't fully recovered so i turned it off and on again, but this time 5 min after it booted it entered in cool down mode.
After researching more, i put it in rice and left it all night, when i woke up i tried again, everything works fine, but it enters again in cool down mode in 40-30 min.
The phone doesn't overheat when it enters this mode, however i think it might be because some circuit enters in shock with residual water or is already damaged. My question is, how long should it be in rice ? and if the problem persist, i havel use alcohol to clean the components?
Try using a hair dryer on medium heat on the phone (heat the phone to approximately 40 centigrades by blowing warm air on it. This will generate evaporation and disipation of any water that is inside
the trick is to have the whole phone warmed up .. not just a little in one corner. The rice will absorb water, true, but not "large" quantities.

I waited all day and turned it on again, now this is interesting, the phone seems to be ok, but it entered cool down mode again, instead of turning it off i leave it on and waited, the battery was draining so i decided to charge it, it seems it can't charge from the usb. I turned it and connected the charger, everything normal, but instead of the normal battery metter it shows up an empty battery with an ? on it.
I know the battery is fine because the phone actually responds, but i'm afraid the usb port is damaged.
I connected it to my computer, it appears it has a false contact, my pc recognizes it, and the phone for a seconds shows the normal battery metter, but it goes to the empty ? again.
What should i do?
You have water in the protection circuit of the battery itself. That protection circuit is measuring constantly the battery parameters and currently is reading something wrong.
Al you can do is wait longer ...
If I were you, I would open the phone and dry it from the inside (I opened mine to change the bezel after a drop and it is quite easy). All you need is some precision screw driver set and some patience.

i decided to wait more, so i left it in rice these days. Now, i tried to turn it on, but it won't do nothing, i supposed it was the battery so i connected the charger and left it like 30 min. When i plug it to the charger, the green leed appears and it vibrates, but it doesn't do anything aside from that.
I might open the phone tomorrow and clean it with alcohol, then assemle it again and wait another hours before giving up, really thanks for helping and idiot like me.

You could have removed CoolDown mode *.apk from the system -- but it is risky since as said before something is being read to the system wrong in order to enter in that mode, could be an over current sensor in the SoC that triggers that (maybe by the lowered resistance by the residual water in the system). Good luck!
IT LIVES ! IT WORKS AGAIN !.
I cleaned it and now it works ! Thank you very much !. The only damage was made to the power button, now it's a little bit harder to turn on but i can live with that.
Relax!!
Bro Hard Reset your phone and relax. Keep calm you are not in trouble so please take it easy firstly hard reset your phone so it will be nice to your phone and you will not go in rice again. I hope you understand and give me a thanks on my post thank you very much hope you like it

water damaged phone

hey guys so my phone was dropped into a water pool "xperia z1"
tho it's supposed to be waterproof but some how water managed to get inside the phone ._.
anyways i've been putting it in rice for almost 2 days trying to turn it on from time to time but it wasn't turning on ._.
i tried putting it on charger tonight and the red charging light appeared but nothing appeared on the screen
i was afraid that something will go wrong if i tried to turn it on so i unplugged it fast and put it bk to rice
what do you think i should do?
thanks in advance
I experianced the same, but in the end had to get my screen nd power cord replaced as abnormal functionality of power cord was cycling my phone on off
Leave it in the rice for another day or two. Rice can bring dead phones back, trust me :3
My advice, send it to Sony for official repair.
They will fix it!
open the back and dry it completely even with a hair dryer on warm setting not hot and test it - if working ok then buy the rear seal gasket (ebay) and put the back back on, keep it away from water, I have open a few of these for screen repairs and taking the back off is easy

[Q] Urgent help about Z3C water resistance please

my z3 compact felt down from my hand into a water full bucket from 1,5 meters.
bucket is 40 cm height.
it's usb side cap is broken.
it stayed for about 1 minute in bucket.
when i see it, i powered off my Z3C.
i am not sure what to do now.
my problem is usb side cap broken. and if water went in from that area?
thanks for help
Put it in a bowl full of rice, device should be shut down prior to this, and leave it in there for 48 hours without taking it out and touching it. Before you put it there open all other flaps. After 48 hours clove flaps and try to power it on, if nothing happens put it on charger and see if LED light turns on, if it does, hooray you have a working phone

Ok, i am trying right now.
I hope it will work.
Thanks a lot..
put it in a ziplock bag of rice for 48 hours. Then after that time has passed open all the flaps and use a blowdryer on it for 15 minues, making sure to blow the hot air in to the ports too.

If he is to use a blowdryer then he might melt the tiny rubber that sticks back and front panel to the body of phone.
Thanks for all comments..

you put the blowdryer on low setting and you dont hold it super close to the phone. just enough so warm air blows on and in to it.

My Note 5's screen stopped working after water damage , can hear sounds , any help ?

Just a few hours ago while riding bike Suddenly rain started and My note 5 in a pocked soaked little bit, when I stopped I cleaned it with cloth it was working fine till half hour but when I came home the screen flickered and went Black. Notification LED and sounds are still working, I tried to shut down the phone by pressing and holding power button but it couldn't for some time, it restarted twice in between that, I can tell by sounds but I think it's off for now. I have kept the phone in a rice bowl . Is is possible to my phone and phones screen work properly ? is there any other way ? I saw in one video that we can put it in isopropyl alcohol 99% for half hour but I am unable to get it . Please suggest me if there is any solution ?

1)Power Off Your Device And Use Hair Dryer To Dry Off Possible Water Gathered at sides of Edges And Display Corners
(Dont Hold Hair Dryer Much Closer To Device As It Will Probably Damage Internal Circuits, Just Hold It At About Secure Distance From Device)
2)You Can Also Try To Put Your Device Below lightening Electricity Bulb To Dry Off Water
(Especially Orthodox Bulbs Which Lights Yellowish In Colour Which Produces Much Heat After Lightened For Long Duration, Here also Hold/Keep Your Device at secure distance to avoid internal damage to device)
Note :-
Be sure to keep your device turned off and don't try to charge it more as it will cause internal circuits damage due to water reactions with electricity

Unfortunately you got water into the charging port and it caused a short circuit breaking the screen/LCD.. You're pretty much going to have to replace the entire screen/LCD.. Right now your best bet is to put it back in the rice for at least 2 days and put it in the plastic baggys that you can buy so it sucks the moisture out of the device.. Seems to me like your screen is done for though..

I saw in this video what you think should i do it ?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqolv4Ofsrc&t=609s

No like I said leave it alone I've done many of these repairs and if you keep powering it on before the water is fully sucked out by the rice you run the chance of poping a capacitor and then it will not be able to even charge and about the alcohol I don't recommend that unless you can find 99% rubbing alcohol because if you buy 50% rubbing alcohol you are going to be adding 50% water in again with the other 50% alcohol.. 99% means 99% alcohol and dry super quickly but there's still that 1% percent water in there! The bag in the rice trick can do the trick if you didn't short circuit nothing on the motherboard but once you short circuit the board it's not easy to fix at that point without proper tools.. Leave the bag of rice like in the sun for a little while too like inside of a car because that will help evaporate the water and the rice will suck it in..

new update - took phone out of the rice again , it booted up well and worked without any issue for a while but again screen went to black . after few attempts , phone started working normally , but this time I powerd off device and kept in rice again. when display was on it didnt flickr , touch was working good.so when its on everything is working perfect but display getting back to black in sometime. what u think , there is still water ? isopropyn alcohol i got is 99% pure , but I am afraid of doing it as my display is working atleast for sometime ,so I dont want to risk anything . my bet is on Rice , and its raining heavyly here , so no sunheat . I thought of drying it by hair dryer but its hot air dryer .
*how long should I keep it in a rice ?its already 36 hours.
Phone is working fine now. Thanks for replies. Rice did the work.
