[FIX] NAE KitKat SD Card Write Error (Flashable) - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Android Development

Hey everyone.
First off thanks for to fgr for providing this fix.
I'm not as active as I used to be, but I do read the threads and a common problem that's cropping up on the stock NAE roms is the SD card writing error. With the new update, they "forgot" to write the permission line for SD cards into the system. So we do what we've always done "fix" their mistakes.
I based this fix on fgr's directions and unknownforce's Stock NAE build. It may work on others, but I've only tested it on that.

thanks for this i thought it was a formatting issue i had:good:

First things First
If you want to run this fix, you will need to put it on the SD card before you install the NAE ROM.
OR
You can remove your SD card and install the fix via an adapter from your computer if you are already running the NAE ROM and you are prevented from accessing your internal or external "card".
And thank you for the "FIX".zip

Good tips sir!
I personally just flashed the ROM. Downloaded this file and transferred it via Philz Recovery (Mount USB Storage). I would expect if you've downloaded it to the internal storage after flashing NAE, you could still install it from the recovery menu.

Head nod - Yes

Yes this way too.

So you can't put it on the EXT SD Card if you have one and flash it?
Also, will this only work on the NAE ROM? Sac23 is updating his ROM to 4.4.2 (NAE based) really soon, will it work on that? Bc your OP states you've only tested it on Unknownforce's NAE stock rooted ROM.
Thanks though!

This should work on any stock NAE ROM. Not knowing what a dev might have changed on a custom ROM, I don't want to say otherwise.

I agree here ... Sac will likely fix any issues prior to his release. But just in case ... This will likely work just fine.
This is really only intended to be temporary, until the "Big Wigs" take the next step.

Root Browser in Rom Tool box works great.i want this so Root Explorer will work right again.

I have had that come up no matter what I flash. I've tried both and haven't seen any negative affect either way.

@cmonsterf50, This works OE perfect!

Worked perfectly. Flashed from internal storage, because, um, I couldn't save to my ext SD card.
Sent from my NAE Yes It Boots ROM.

I flashed this and I still couldn't write to my external sd card. Is there something I'm missing? I'm using The Pirate Bay Browser and Utorrent, both from the play store and it will write to internal but not external, even after I flashed this.
I just read about this. It's not something they left out, it's a security measure. Only Google apps or carrier apps can write to your external SD card, NOT apps you install yourself.

I've flashed this on a few phones on NAE and it's always worked great. Thanks man!, saved me a lot of headache.

I still cannot write to my sd card even after using the fix here is a screen shot of the platform.xml file.

EDIT : Actually I have a question, does it include the new radio ? or do we have to flash it ourselves ? (if we have to flash it, would you have a link ?)

Its just the contact thing that google decided to stop. Contact syncing. I noticed on most of the 2.3.3 roms they got it figured out. Im sure it will come with time.
Thank you for looking into it.
I'm usually on my phone so I don't notice if you have a donate link so when I get my laptop out of my wifes hands I will gladly drop you a donation.

I posted thsi in the RAV rom thread as well.. but here it is again as its applicable to you too.
it is my first time trying out these roms and I have tried a few today, getting the hang of it now and can report that this rom as well as the one in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1065392
works best on my device.
All the others MIUI, nexus Sense etc etc all have a lot of errors popping up on market and camera etc. I was looking for a rooted rom on 2.3.4.
I just had one question. There are a lot of roms here that have VOODOO preloaded, but yours doesnt. I liked the functions on VOODOO with all the amplifier settings and colour tint adjustment that people are talking about since 2.3.3.
Do you plan to put that on here? I downloaded the application from market but it reports the kernel is not supported.
If not, is it already tweaked with the tint and amp settings that the voodoo app does?
Also, this may be a noob question. How do I change the fonts on my device. Can I choose any font and just apply it through a setting somewhere?
Dumb question
Would this ROM work with the Sprint Nexus S 4G CDMA or is this only for GSM? I noticed it said it didn't have a radio included so I wasn't sure.

This is only for GSM...to answer your question, yes, the rom would flash but then your phone wouldn't work. Don't flash this build on your NS4G.
*To help you out...you can either send me a system dump or wait until I get my hands on a buddy of mine's phone to build you one*

Start in the development forum whet you found this rom.
Look for the netarchy post, it's just below this thread.
Once you find the netarchy thread, scroll down to the downloads and you reentry to d/l the.

seems like u guys didnt get the point. what is wrong with rom manager is its flashing method of cwm when u still doesnt have cwm in the first place. it doesnt matter if u can use it on current cm7 when u already got cwm preinstalled.
do most of us a favour by test it throughly. flash stock rom via odin, root your phone, install rom manager and try to flash cwm from it.
got my point now? it doesnt work to flash cwm. u'll get a hardbrick ace on first reboot after trying to flash cwm from it.
on other device it works flawlessly on stock or sense or motoblur or whatever rom on the device to flash cwm.
u might say it works with u now because u already had cwm preinstalled, but how do u expect to answer if someday comes a newbie with a fully stock rom and stock recovery, asking if he can use rom manager to flash cwm, would u say it'll work then? think about it

It doesn't let you flash CWM for ace anyway, so if you use the manual override it will work. I have experienced my phone bricking when using this, however if done correctly it shouldn't wreak it. Noobs shouldn't be doing this kind of thing anyway, so I don't see what your issue is.

I've been scruttenizing your logcat and can't find any clues. Android location services seem to be running, so location data should be available to apps. I see no indication of a problem. Only thing I see is CPUQuiet acting up a bit, but that should not cause the problem.
I think you have some leftover junk from anothe ROM giving you troubles. I would advice a complete wipe (dalvik/cache/factory) of your phone and reinstalling ROM and Kernel.
After that only install your favorite nav. app. and see if it works (give it time for it's first fix though). After that keep adding your favorite apps and keep checking your nav. app. to see if it keeps working.
I'm sorry I can't find a clear cause for the problem.

Mee too ... in SlimBean 7.8 with Optimus Prime Kernel 2.53 or Iodak 07 , GPS and 3G Data not working . Problem is in ROM and not in kernel . So... dear demetris_l please update SlimBean ROM ver. 8 or new version 4.3

I use V7.8 SlimROM on V2.53 of OP kernel and I've got none of these problems. 3G and GPS work perfectly. So saying probem is in the ROM does not have to be true. Could also be bad flash or corrupt download. Try completly wiping phone and do a manual system/format and reinstall. If the problem still excist, then maybe there is a fault in the ROM. Or maybe different hardware versions of P880 excist, so that some work and some don't?

Could also be bad flash or corrupt download. Try completly wiping phone and do a manual system/format and reinstall. If the problem still excist, then maybe there is a fault in the ROM. Or maybe different hardware versions of P880 excist, so that some work and some don't?

A question: Can i flash directly SlimBean 8.0 from 4.1.2 stock ?
devilozzo said:
I'm returned to V20a Stock, because wipes and format not resolve my issue . So, i read a post in Cyano 4.3 that another person have similar issue.. he installed 4.3 and rollback to 4.2.2 ... problems with data.. so i think that the problem is 4.3 and the rollback and not in ROM . Excuse me for fake troubles

Then the problem is some leftover junk from the 4.3 installation. Completly wiping cache, Dalvik, Userdata and doing a manual system format should get rid of all that junk.

I tried to do everything. From wipes to format but I had to reflash the original stock with kdz to resume the functions 3g and gps. Now I want to do a clean re-install of Slimbean but wanted to know if I can flash it directly from stock 4.1.2 to SlimBean 8.0 without going through CyanogenMod
Yes u can

Strange..Then maybe formatting all does not format every nook and cranny of the phone and the original .kdz does overwrite the junk...I did not know that.
And for installing SlimROM V8 without going through CM:
Yes no problem. CM is not needed at all. CM is just another ROM, like SlimROM, Jellybeeer, etc. You can always directly flash the ROM you want.

This is awesome. The video fix is what drew my to flashing the CM 11 Rom by Jamie, and after flashing the only problem I seem to have come across is that the battery % in the status bar ( top right ) isn't functioning, it reads as 100% all the time. I installed a battery saver app and it is coming with an incorrect reading of 38% constantly ( I know this because I began the flashing process with 100% battery and it would not have dropped to 38% within half an hour). If there is any fix for this, that would make this rom absolutely perfect.
I have read in the forums that a few other people have had the battery problem. I think it's in the ROM, not the patch. I asked Jamie about it, but I don't know of a fix. I'm running the p11 cm build with no issues.

Oh, awesome. I guess I'll just flash that instead. Any idea if I have to completely reformat again, or if I can just flash p11? Would I come up with any significant issues?
I would clean flash. Dirty flashing almost always leads to problems.

this is awesome! ima give the cynogenmod 11 a shot....I've tried a lot of different roms and always get random reboots and a few FC's....if cm11 seems to be working good then ima try that out...i'm stuck on 4.0.4 skeleton key beta 1 I do love that rom because I have NO PROBLEMS WHAT SO EVER...but always willing to flash new roms and test them out...p0llution which one would you recommend to flash? thanks in advance : )
---------- Post added at 07:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:43 PM ----------
UPDATE: so I clicked on cynogenmod 11 and Jamie updated the rom to p12...im give that one a shot...also gapps-modular-mini-4.4.2-20131215-signed.zip is what i'm going to flash it with...hopefully i'm flashing it with the correct files...if not I always do a backup of my current rom...wish me luck fellas!!!!
Thanks for the feedback. I experienced an issue with the battery not reporting the right percentage on cm11 p12. I read in the forums that a few others are having the issue. If you get this problem I would flash p11. P11 is what I am running, and it has been smooth as butter with no issues.

Everything that I try works fine.
Thanks Polluti0n, you have really opened things up for us on the tmo side.
Thanks guys!
I'm working on version 3 of the patch now. I am trying to incorporate some fixes (workarounds) to get video recording working on all roms for us.
Will post it in op once I get everything working the way I want
Thanks.
-Polluti0n
Version 3
Just linked version 3 in the OP.
The only change is that video recording and playback should work on any rom now!
If you guys have already setup a rom with my patch, don't worry. You don't need to start all over. Just flash ONLY the new patch in recovery and you should get video working.
As always, please leave feedback.
Thanks
-Polluti0n
Thank you!
Thank you! This is a brilliant idea and saves everyone a ton of work for developing for this phone. This opens up the options for us and allows me to use a rom that works great. Thanks again!
Hey Polluti0n,
So far the patch v3 is running super smooth on CM 11. How ever when I tried to under clock it is stays at full throttle 1890. I tried to get a logcat but alogcat is not showing any processes at all. I'm not sure but they might not have updated alogcat to work with kitkat. Also it doesn't seem to allow Duel Channel only H+ data not really a big deal since that is only a slight data speed boost.

I believe both of the issues you are describing are attributed to the PAC kernel that the patch is using. I have been researching how to compile the UBER kernel for our tmo notes, but still haven't figured it out.
In the next version of the patch I would like to incorporate the AROMA installer, the CM kernel, and a working flash player. With the AROMA installer the user could pick which kernel they would like to install, and what patches they want to enable. No ETA on when I will get this done though. Been super busy lately.
Also if you would like me to I could make you a flashable zip of the CM kernel. This would disable overclocking, but it may run more stable. Let me know
Thanks
-Polluti0n
P.S. if anyone has any experience with compiling kernels or writing AROMA script, hit me up.
No need for all the trouble. I love having my phone overclocked. I think I can use the governors to achieve better battery life just as well as underclocking. I'm sure you time would be better spent. The truth is this breaths life back on our phone. Once again giving us the same ROMS as the AT&T version. Here's to you! Keep up the good work.

[ROM] VZW G2 KitKat 24A Stock Rooted & Deloated ROMs

After 3 bricks and lots of testing, here's my VZW G2 KitKat 24a ROM's, stock and debloated.
Special thanks to xdabbeb method and kernel and JackpotCalvin KK hack for without them, this would not be possible.

Cooks or Devs:
Anybody can use part of all of this rom as a base as I don't own this rom. Just posting a credit is sufficient enough for me. My loss of 3 bricks is your gain!
Warning MD5 must match or risk brick due to kk baseband being flashed.
ROM's:

Steps 1: Flash ROM
Step 2: Flash kk baseband. Must be on 11a, 12b. If ur on 24a u don't need baseband.

Its the same 24a stock. No difference. No reason to flash the stock rom if your already on stock 24a.
That's what I thought, but wasnt sure with one of the prerequisites being the manual ota.

Since this is not different from the OTA itself, and it requires you to do the manual method of installing the OTA as a pre-req, one would question why continue further on to flashing this after you have manually installed the OTA?
I don't understand what is new about this?

If you did the manual KK ota, there is no need to flash stock rom. If you did CM11 on JC's thread, and want to get back to KK, then you can flash this and get it back, or the debloated rom.

My understanding: These are just two options to install the ROM only. If you have already done it manually then there is no need, unless you want to try the debloated version.

Ok, that makes sense, but it should probably be clearly stated in the OP that this is for people who have already done the manual OTA install, moved to CM, and would like to flash back.
I say this because most people are looking for a solution to be able to flash the KK rom in general, while this is a wonderful piece of work, it also serves a very specific purpose, which doesnt appear to be very clearly outlined, and might get some people into trouble if they jump the gun.
