[Q] Android 4.3 C5303 Update problem! - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello to everyone!
This is my first post to this great forum. Recently I bought a Sony SP C5303 and now I face a complicated problem and I want your help.
The situation:
The phone was bought as unlocked (and not rooted) and when I got it, it prompt me to update to the 4.1.2 12.0.A.2.254 as previously had an older build version. I successfully did the update and everything works fine BUT right now I am wondering why I can't see the official update for 4.3
After a lot of search I realised that the phone was supplied from T-mobile (UK) as it has customization version 1272-7168_R6A
So, the phone is unlocked, unrooted and since I bought it operates on Three network.
However either when I connect it with PC companion, or I do the manual search for updates through the headset, I am unable to see the update to 4.3
I am wondering if there is any conflict between the T-mobile unlock and the Three network that I operate the phone.
Is there any way so I can trigger the update? Should I wait a little bit more? I am not sure and I am not so good with these things.
The only I want is not to cause the phone to lock somehow or to install a custom rom, neither root it.
Thank you very much for your help and your answers!

I would stay on 4.1.2. 4.3 is a piece of crap. I made the mistake of upgrading and had to downgrade. I tired many roms and did not like any of them. Stock, root and xposed frameworks still best for stability, features and battery life.

This is due to the mobile operator themselves. I am with o2 and do not have the 4.3 update for my SP either, it is down to the operator to decide when they release the update as they have to fill it with their bloatware first!
You can of course flash 4.3 yourself using flashtool I did, their are plenty of guides on this forum

To be honest I am a little bit confused what determines if the phone is going to update or not.
I mean that is the provider responsible for delivering the update or the customization version? If we think that with no sim, we just plug the phone to pc companion and it is able to see the update, then it depends on customization version.
Is there any official reference for how the phone is determined to be valid for the update?
I still believe that there is a conflict here between the current provider I operate the phone (Three) and the customization version that comes from T-mobile (the phone was unlocked from T-mobile).
Thanks guys!
P.S @xEaGLeNeC Wow!!I heard completely the opposite from many people. They claimed that the phone battery last more with 4.3! I will try to search more if it finally worth to update or not.

[Q] OTA update 4.3 for Singapore handset used in the UK

I have an unrooted I9305 bought new from eBay in the UK, I believe the handset came from Singapore. I did a factory reset on it once and it restarted in Chinese or something similar!
I have just received an OTA notification that Android 4.3 is available, I haven't installed it yet. I am in the UK on T-mobile. Is it safe or advisable to install this update? From what I understand it will be 4.3 designed for Singapore, I don't want to screw my phone! I contacted Samsung support who came back to me within a couple of hours, confirmed that the handset was from Singapore but didn't seem too sure what would happen if I take the update. They suggested I should take it to a Samsung service centre and have it flashed with the UK stock firmware (which I would prefer) but the nearest one is 40 miles away, they would probably charge me for it, and Samsung said it would invalidate the warranty anyway.
I tried Kies to see if it would give me any more information about exactly what the update is, but Kies seems to be confused. I have version 2.6.1.13105_6 which is the latest according to Help->Check for updates in Kies itself, but when I plug in my phone Kies tells me I have to update Kies itself before updating my firmware. Samsung suggested using Kies3 which I tried but it says my phone is not compatible. I have had slightly better luck with an older version of Kies 2.3.3.xxx which displays my current firmware version and tells me there is an update, but doesn't show the latest firmware version so I still don't know what it will be.
I have just installed a smaller FOTA update and the handset build number now shows JZO54K.I9305ZHBMK1 but this gets no hits in Google so I don't know what it is.
I haven't rooted the phone as the guides usually say only do this if you know what you are doing, and I am clever enough to know how much I don't know!
Is it safe to install the OTA update and will it lose my current settings (like language) if I do? Or is there a better solution?

no u won't lose language english is in the blood of every Rom
Download a uk rom a d flash it with odin if ur afraid of any network issues. Since yur going to update via ota it makes no diff. Ur bootloader will be updated to the knox bootloader. And since you are not going to root it... just use odin to flash official i9305 firmwares. You cant go wrong.

I hope you are right! I presume flashing the firmware will remove all the apps and data I have put on the phone? Alternatively if I just take the OTA update is it likely to cause any issues or you can't be sure what it will do? And will that also wipe all my current apps and data? I have all the standard stuff backed up but since I haven't rooted there is some app data that can't be backed up, as far as I know.
As i have experienced before... unrooted phones data is not possible to be backed up. Heard of helium but yet to use it. So you may actually find out more about Helium app. Another alternative is you can use Kies to back up data.
Secondly check your gsm and lte bands of your phone and the carrier that ur using in uk. If the carrier supports it then it should not be of any issues with connectivity. Sgp phones are unlocked and usable worldwide. I dont see any issues unless your phone is faulty.

[Q] Installing 4.3 stock rom on modified device

Hi everyone.
I'm a bit stuck here, and I have googled quite a bit, but seem to come across conflicting information.
Basically I bought a PAYG S3 LTE on EE UK that had official status, and wanted to unlock it to the 3 network. The only way I found to do it for free was to downgrade the ROM to 4.1.1 and use the hidden menu hack and so just decided to take it to the local phone shop and let someone do it properly.
But when I got it back, it turns out that he actually did the 4.1.1 hack himself and has rendered the phone 'modified'. I was a bit miffed as I wanted to keep it on 4.3 and get OTA updates.
So my question is, can I flash a stock 4.3 ROM back to the phone, and if so, will it keep the network unlocked for my 3 sim? Also, will I be able to root 4.3?
I do apologise if these are pretty obvious questions, but like I say, I just have seen many people saying different things.
I've also flashed a few phones of my own, so I'm not a complete newb in that respect.
Any info will be much appreciated.
Cheers.
Download your corresponding 4.3 firmware from: http://sammobile.com/firmwares/
And just flash it with Odin

[Q] Xperia V update from android 4.1.2 to 4.3 / firmware 9.1.A.1.140 to 9.2.a.2.5

Good day, I have a problem with my android and firmware update. I have seen some blogs about xperiaV posting that they already have JB 4.3 update and the latest version of firmware 9.2.a.2.5.. I am wondering how they update it 'cause when i connect my phone to Pc and run the PC Companion, i check the update and it says my phone/tablet is up to date, but the android version of my phone was still 4.1.2 and the firmware version is 9.1.a.1.140.. I don't understand what is the problem of my phone or at my PC Companion Software. I tried also connecting my phone to internet and check for update and still it says my system is up to date. My main concern why i wanted to update my phone, it is because my phone is now dead signal as in no signal (by the way i'm form the Philippines using Smart Communication Network postpaid) I've already switching the network from GSM only and to other choices provided but still no signal. I tried switching my Airplane mode and it displays an airplane icon on the signal area (I think airplane mode is working well, never tried using is). I've read some blogs also that you need to root your phone and flash the firmware and so on to update the android version, but i think its just changing the room, not really updating the system. I don't want to do that 'cause my phone might turn into bootloap 'cause i don't have much knowledge on doing that. I've read also some blogs stating that there is a bug or network issue on version 4.1.2. So i am looking forward from anybody here in the forum who can help or teach me what to do to update my android and firmware version.
I am not sure of it useful to 'upgrade" the phone to solve a problem - this problem of yours. If I were you I'd use the repair my phone option in PC-Companion first, and then see what happens with the phone signal.
You can simly flash any ftf file for your phone with flashtool. Not the sony one. You don't need root access for it
#Mr. Peter-K I've tried it already just a minute ago and still no use. Related to the blogs that i have read regarding on the 4.1.2 version network bug. there problem has been solve after updating the version of there android.

Look at this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2648320
Download 9.2.A.2.5 unbranded coming from Singapore or HongKong (since you're from Asia) and follow the instructions to flash.
Good luck

You can jump straight to 9.2.A.2.5
It's important that you wipe all your data... and Flashtool will do it for you automatically if you don't change anything just before flashing

I actually don't know how sim-unlocking works.
Have you ever asked to your network? Usually they give you a code after having paid a little fine.

They told me that they cannot unlock my phone..they told me go to sony service center. hte problem is that we don't have a service center of sony here..
Back to my thread.still my phone signal is not working. i just found out w while ago that if i am in the higher place like 2nd floor of the building, i got a 2g network and my phone signal is working. but if i'm already at the ground floor the signal is not working. is it ok if i am going to do open line on my so that it will receive any type of network or is it really the software problem of my phone causing the signal not working??

Xperia Firmware update problems c6606

Hi, Guys. I recently flashed a new Rom on my T-mobile Xperia Z. However whenever I update to 5.0.2 Lillopop I cannot get cell reception. I live in Guyana so I bought the phone online and had it shipped and unlocked. I have tried both the c66103 and the c6616 however in both , as soon as I update to Lollipop I lose cell reception. All other updates up to Kit Kat 4.4.4 work perfectly. Any advice? I figure it must be something like a baseband problem. I have already tried flashing that however the baseband # does not change. Any advice would be helpful.
Best Regards
sony rom is bugged with callings they said they repair it .
I recently even tried the 5.1.1 update but I still suffer the same problem. I get absolutely no cell reception. It's like the sim is not even being recognized by the phone. I am wondering about trying to build an ftf file however I am not sure if you can edit the baseband in that venture. I believe that it may be the baseband that is presenting the problem, however I am kind of a noob so I need to be sure before I try anything.

Can't Update System Software

I just got brand new Xperia X Performance that came with 6.0.1, and I'm trying to figure out why I can update it. It's unlocked but not rooted, basically right from the factory as far as I know.
When I go into Software Update in the phone's settings, it says "Your device already has the latest available system updates."
When I use the Sony app on my PC it says my system software is up to date.
I actually can't find anything about this issue, anybody here have any ideas?
Thanks!
try downloading and running xperifirm, find out if your region has the update at all, you should be able to update atleast to 7 anyway
There are a few variants that are considered as internal units or something like that and they don't get OTA updates, also HK units were stuck on 7 for some reason last time I checked. Mine is a french model, and yesterday I received the april security patches while the global variant got it two months ago

Thanks for the reply.
Here's a screenshot of Xperiafirm. https://ibb.co/dUCN3T
I'm in Canada, though I'm on Freedom Mobile, not Rogers or Bell. I don't think my carrier ever sold this phone, and I'm not sure what would happen if I flashed 8.0 made for Bell or Rogers phones.
Ideally I'd like 7.1.1 Canadian generic for Xperia X Performance, but I can't seem to find that anywhere.
I've also never done this so I don't really know what I'm doing, and don't want to void my warranty!
Thanks for you help!!
Good the ROMs that you see for Canada are all latest 8.0 with May security patches and maybe your phone is one of these and the updates just got stucked for some reason.
First you have to check what kind of model you have to check this, to do so you should open the dialler and type
*#*#7378423#*#*
From the service menu you should select -> Service Info -> Software Info and look for Customization Version:
As I said mine is a french model so it states 1302-9342_R2E your should be something different but only the first 8 numbers matter
then look this number in Xperifirm if yours is everything different from Internal Unit (second column from the screenshot) then there is a easy way to try and update without loosing your warranty
First there is always a risk! But I have done this a few times for my Xperia U and Xperia M5 and had no problems at all.
Do a backup - contacts...everything you need as it will delete them
charge the phone to at least 80%
then you should go to the Xperia Companion and do a software repair, not update but repair
It should install the latest version for your phone but it shows the version it installed only when it's finished...
Even if it has not installed the latest update then just connect the phone to your wifi/LTE and try the OTA updates again (could take up to an hour)
This is the safest way that will not void your warranty in any way but will delete your info (contacts, pics..etc. ) so do a backup prior
And if possible use a laptop with a working battery as even a 1 second glitch in the grid could cause the phone to get bricked
And if your phone is imported from China and the customization number is considered as an Internal Unit the only way you could get 7.0 or 8.0 is by flashing and another ftf file as the ones for Bell Canada or Rogers, there are actually some ROMs uploaded in XperiaBlog
there could be some in XDA but I have not search for any

Thanks so much for the reply...I discovered the version of Android installed on my phone is a version meant for Journalists/Reviewers/Commercial use, and can not be updated. I just got a refund for the 3-year warranty portion of my purchase after pointing this out to them. So after the 90 day warranty that came with it runs out, I'll be able to do anything I feel like with this device.
I'll be looking for a safe way to install 7.1.1 hopefully, and if not then 8.0. There seem to be less issues with 7.1.1, but there's really only one way to find out: when I start using it.
I'll definitely need a point in the right direction when it comes to that though. I understand Sony has an official flashing tool, and you have to unlock the bootloader (which is supported on my phone even with this version). But I haven't done it before and don't know how.
