[Q] GV text messages captured by xvoice+ not read by Moto Assist in driving mode - Moto X Q&A

I have xvoice+ xposed module installed and it does a great job at intercepting Google Voice text messages and routing them to the stock SMS app. However, they are not read in the driving mode.
I tried to find out if this is a common issue for all moto x users, but got no response in the app's thread.
Maybe this is expected behavior, since these are not Verizon text messages, but rather rerouted google voice text messages.
I just wanted to check if I'm alone with this issue, or if it affects everybody the same way.

Emoji never show up in messaging/Hangouts

Here's the issue- so I'm on KitKat (PACMan specifically), and I can type the emoji just fine- they show up for me when I send SMS. If I send a text with emoji to a friend on iOS, they show up for them; if I use them on Twitter, it shows up there too (and I can see the other people's just fine). However, whenever I text someone else on Android, they just see them as the diamonds with question marks; it goes in reverse too: if I get a text with emoji (from Android or iOS), they show as diamonds. What could be the issue here? This happens in both Hangouts and the stock app.
Figured it out- I was using the Google Voice integration, so the texts go through there, and GV doesn't support those emojis. The main person I text (who's also on KitKat) also used the GV Sprint integration. I disabled it, and everything displays fine now.
Thanks

That was driving me crazy for the past couple days. I didn't realize it happened right after I enabled Google Voice. Thanks for the update.

Hangouts

Can moto x do anything with hangouts ie read incoming messages or send them?
Good question. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S3 & once I started using hangouts, I lost the ability of Drive Mode to read incoming text messages. On my device, text message reading only works with default text message app.
What is the default text message for the Moto X? Hangouts? One would think Hangouts would be the default like a Nexus device.

It can read SMS coming to hangouts, but not Hangouts messages.
So, one needs to use their default message app, correct?

If you have Hangouts set as your SMS and it will read you your SMS and use Hangouts to send your SMS. but it will not read if a person sends you a Hangouts message.
Thanks, I was being a bit dense.

Android "L"ollipop Google voice flaw/error

I updated to the latest preview of Android L to do a little testing on a few apps that i have in the works. While using the phone for dev reasons, i noticed that the ROM was stable enough for everyday use, so i decided to install Google voice, hangouts messenger and setup Google voice to be my voice-mail of choice. This is where i noticed a issue, when i receive a phone call to my Google voice number, everything works great, hangouts app picks up the call, if i decline the call it goes directly to Google voice-mail. Perfect.. The issue is when people (for some reason) call my normal cell number it will ring and go to the normal dialer, but when i decline the call, it'll ring the hangout's messenger app.
Doing some digging i found that Google setup voice-mail a little different between kitkat (and before) to lollipop. There use to be an option to send calls straight to Voice-mail (whatever is set to default) when you'r busy(declined call) or you don't answer(missed call), now there is no option for this, just different options of numbers to forward too. This wouldn't be an issue using normal voice-mail, but when using Google voice it now forwards the calls to your Google voice number when you decline a phone call from your normal cell number... Besides having two voice-mail numbers, i do not see a work around..
Anyone else seeing this issue and have a solution?
Hi,
We do not need a new thread for this, we are trying to keep all L related issues to either this thread here or a good place could be the thread you created here until it is officially released as some of these bugs/flaws could be fixed by then.

[Q] Big Hangouts Issue w/ merging.

This is not my problem, I'm posting for someone else.
Device: Moto G XT1068
OS: 4.4.x
App: Hangouts
Rooted: No
So basically this is a less than week old phone. I contact this person via Hangouts and SMS regularly so the merged threads are great for that. The problem is that now, for whatever reason, the Hangout messages do not appear in the thread. The user still receives notifications of the Hangout messages but when tapped they take her to the thread of SMS messages only.
Have tried unmerging, remerging, clearing data/cache. No luck whatsoever.
Unmerging did allow both the Hangouts and SMS threads to be viewed independently but that's not very useful...
Have also rebooted etc...
I've looked around XDA and the web in general but no luck so far.
Anyone know what could cause this bug and how to solve it? Thanks.
Any got a clue what's wrong?

Moto Voice new behavior (maybe related to a google services update (?))

Hello there!
I've never had any problem using Moto Voice and its touchless function before.
It now behaves differently and not in a good way.
Each time I summon Moto Voice using my predefined sentence, it says "Opening Google Now", even for sending a text message.
It does not understand "take a note" anymore, a standard Google search is performed instead.
When I want to send a text message, it often opens whatsapp instead and then say something like "a problem occured, we'll talk later"
When I send a text message, it only understand and transcript/display the last part of what I'm saying.
It often does not understand the "what's up?" sentence and perform a basic Google search instead.
Has anybody here having the same behavior?
My idea is that something has changed in Google services.
My Moto X 2014 is stock, french language, last available update installed. I've tried to hard reset but the behavior is the same.
Any idea? thank you.
