[Q] No network and CSC Unknown - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I need some help. I flashed my i8190N with Maclaws CM11 KitKat ROM but have now lost network and sim and CSC data. My baseband is showing ok along with my IMEI.
I flashed back to stock ROM but still no network. I think I need the CSC file. My baseband is i8190NXXALL6 and im on H3G UK network. My wifes stock i8190N is on same network and her CSC is i8190NH3GALL2. Is there anyway I can pull a file from her phone to mine?
I have read on a couple of threads that Tyson can supply a modem file. Does this contain the CSC file that I need?
Thanks in advance
Matt

I flashed with a stock rom downloaded from Samsung-updates.com, i8190NXXALL6_i8190NH3GALL2_Home.tar.md5. I have flashed via Odin. Flash passed ok but when I reboot phone, still has no network and CSC shows unknown. I have also downloaded same rom from other sources and same thin happens.

Yes several times. even tried flashing again after a factory wipe/reset. Still same. Could I copy the rom from my other i8190N which has same stock rom and network?

Yes, if you have the same device (I8190N) you could technically do a nandroid backup (excluding EFS if choosing TWRP full nandroid backup) on the 'working' device and restore this backup on the 'broken' one. But its highly advised to make a nandroid backup on the 'broken' one prior this (suggest using TWRP and taking a full nandroid backup - including EFS).

OK, I will try this later as wife now wants to use her phone. It is exactly the same phone, with just a different colour shell. Baseband and rom the same. I did just do a full nandroid backup f the working phone but I think I included EFS as well. I will try another one without EFS.
Will post how it goes.
Thanks again.

Its crucial that you only restore a backup from and to the same model, which in your case is i8190N. Furthermore be assured that you do not include EFS in your transfer attempt, as it contains IMEI, potential carrier lock and other vital device specific (unique) information. The recovery partition can be excluded too.

They are both i8190N and locked to the same network. I will NOT include EFS in the backup of the working model.

It worked. I backed up the working phone excluding the EFS and recovery folders using TWRP. Renamed the backup folder to match the non working device ID. Restored backup using TWRP on non working phone. Rebooted and everything now working. CSC data now showing correctly.
I also did a factory reset/wipe as it had all the other phones settings etc.
Can make calls etc now.
Thanks for your help.

You won't get your IMEI back by flashing a 3-part-Rom.
What problem with your IMEI do you have? Starting with 004999...?

Hallo! I have a problem where mobile connection doesn't work. When I try to connect manually it doesn't work it just gives me an error with no details in it. This happened after attempt on installation of Mackay kernel it worked but I noticed the mobile connection was dead after a while I ran a restore but stil the same problem. The efs folder is empty with a lost+found folder there is also nothing in that folder. When I click manage mobile contract it tells me that I need to put the SIM card in but it is inserted. HELP!!

Is your IMEI still intact or does it begin with something like 0044?

Did you ever do nandroid backup before? If yes, it contains also the efs folder.
BTW, if nandroid backup was done with different ROM, kernel or CWM version, don't try to restore it with Mackay kernel!!
You must flash as furst the same ROM and same kernel and use the same CWM recovery version to successfully restore your nandroid backup.
Otherwise, you could flash some stock firmware and imei usually returns then. People report that Gingerbread JVU usually restores the imei number quite regularly. If your current ROM uses different partitions than stock firmware, you may have to flash also the PIT file to make step back to stock with success, PIT file will do proper re-partition.
Otherwise, there are quite many threads about how to restore lost imei on the i9000. Take some time browsing around.

Great!
Now backup your whole efs folder with the terminal emulator or ADB and save it on several places (different folders on internal and external SD as well as on your PC). It is explained how to do it in my thread.
BTW, on this forum it is kind of nice to click on "thanks" button leftmost beyond all helpful posts.

I've already written you: it was described in my newest thread, I've posted it also here:

The same commands like in the terminal emulator can be done by the ADB as well.
You can easily find good threads here on XDA forum how to backup & restore IMEI
But for great tipps you should not forget to "klick" the thanks button ...it doesn`t hurt :fingers-crossed::good::laugh:

Solved [Q] Mobile Data is not Working at all

Hello,
I am using I9070 (Samsung S Advance)
Tried using Stock firmware, Mods like Carbon and CyanogenMod
The Problem I am facing is following:
"I just installed this Carbon Mod but somehow my mobile data is not working at all even when option is of mobile data is on
anyway to solve it?"
Things I tried
1. I tried formating my phone.. "Already did it 5-6 Times with no luck"
2.Tried the same in other phone "and it was working in other phone"
3.Tried chatting up with customer representative.
actually I did something silly I went to Recovery Mode "ClockworkMod is installed"
Then "Mounts and Storage Menu"
and Formatted system, modemfs, cache, preload, data and boot
Is I am facing this issue because of formatting these options? and I am getting full network but when I am switching Mobile Data it is not showing "H" or "E" icon on network bar...
Please Help me out..
Enclosing snapshot taken from same mobile with different firmware like (GB and JB) and MODS (CyanogenMod and CarbonMod)
Thank You
Issue Solved:-
Copied from @alete89
Changed few things as it will work whether you are from same place or other place as baseband is XXXX
you just need same phone
I have to downgrade jellybean to 2.3.6 and root it after that
Following these steps: (as example)
http://techdraginfo.blogspot.com/2012/10/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-s-advance.html
then install terminal.
then get the modemfs.img.md5 from a friend with the same phone but he lives in Argentina
File is uploaded in googledrive by @alete89 , I link it here just in case (warning, it is from company: Claro, Argentina, UBLD1)
goo.gl/DzAjza
after that I followed following steps

After reading your private message and this post, it seems that you still might be lucky.
In your private message you said that you formatted also your EFS folder, which you didn't write on this post. Since you said you still have your IMEI I am assuming that you really didn't touch that partition.
I would suggest using Odin to flash your stock baseband. Start with using your region baseband.
You can find them on sammobile.com or samsung-updates.com.
Hopefully after flashing via Odin your region baseband you will get the modemfs back.
I tried that

I think this is the last resort
There is flashable zip provided to change baseband I think it was provided by @t4n107 .try flashing it in recovery then make a clean flash of any custom ROM with all wipes.

yes flashed modem again with cwm rom, booted into recovery tried to flash modem I9305T_DVBLL3.zip.
should I try a different modem ? my phone model is I9305 not I9305T, maybe this is why its not working ??
I have the same situation when went back to 4.3 rom from 4.4 rockyard. Nothing helped. So I restored backup of 4.4... and everything works. I'm currently using this Rom without problems (old rockyard ported from Note).

I have the same situation when went back to 4.3 rom from 4.4 rockyard. Nothing helped. So I restored backup of 4.4... and everything works. I'm currently using this Rom without problems (old rockyard ported from Note).

Yes you could try. I already had imei missing issue after an nandroid backup restore. After this I had to flash again my custom rom to retreive my imei #.

Really weird... I hope you haven't any hardware issue...
Try to flash a custom rom (then modem if no luck) and check again.

How to back up my factory ROM?

Just got a new unit and would like to make a full backup of the factory ROM before proceeding to try out different ROMs. I did find an old thread from 2011 [HOW-TO]Create Custom ODIN Images for Backup/Restore but I'm not entirely sure if this is still accurate advice.
Also, it says that the device needs to be rooted in order to make the backups. My understanding is that if I root the system it will be detected by the system and OTA updating will then be disabled, which is not what I want. So my second question is: Is it really necessary to root and if so what is the best temporary method?

ODIN flash TWRP then backup your stock ROM.

Small piece of advice my friend, be sure to include EFS in the backup to be on the safe side, also I suggest making a copy on a external SD or transferring to a PC
Why efs?

According to TWRP they say:
Some devices have “special partitions” like WiMAX, pds, efs, etc. These partitions almost never need to be included in a normal backup.

I already did one restore from my backup which had not included efs and it worked ok. What exactly is efs and why would we need it?

The EFS folder contains important information from the phone, like the IMEI for example, and if it gets erased by error it may affect your ability to successfully connect to a provider. Backups in TWRP will give you the option to backup important partitions one of those is the EFS folder, alternatively you may also use an application to make a backup (requires root) like EFS Manager(IMEI)-Note4 on the play store.
