[HOW TO][ALL VARIANTS][19/11/ Gain root, custom recovery, prep for modding on your S5 - Galaxy S 5 General

Gaining root and recovery on your S5
As you know, the S5 development community has been booming these last few days, turned out i found a guy with the device(@leoaudio13), so we were able to help gain root from CF and a working custom recovery from @PlayfulGod, in addition to these i made a version of my app to backup the EFS for this device and add support to my rom kitchen for this device.
So lets cut the crap.
This is an extremely easy procedure.

it will not wipe the device, and please read the title, its only for G900F for now but will be updated soon!

Is the 900F the general international model?
On Kogan they stated their will be shipping the G900, not specifying any letter, so i am wondering what the differences are.

I don't have S5 yet, but as potential buyer i have 2 questions for those who flashed custom recovery or kernel and rooted their S5:
1) Does fingerprint scanner function work with custom status and knox warranty void=0x1?
2) Do you see red message on top left corner of initial boot screen (something like KERNEL/RECOVERY SECURITY CHECK FAIL) if you flash custom kernel or recovery?
(With custom recovery you may see this message only when you boot into recovery).

SM-G900M also LA
Just unboxed my S5 for Mexico's Telcel carrier; G900M is for Vodafone and apparently Latin America (hence LA).
Can't find anything online about rooting this model.

Hey,
very good work. But doesn’t works for me, because there is no German sales code in the CSC of the European Firmware. Is it posible to make a firmware, which includes the DBT sales code? There is a original French Firmware available on teamandroid which includes the western european codes.
Would it posible to make a rooted firmware based on this Version? This would be wonderful!
Many thanks,
Niggy

How do you do this using the easiest method? Theres no instructions, just a zip file.
Do I just boot into stock recovery and then flash SuperSU followed by CWM? Is it more involved than that? The zip file also includes Odin so do I need to work with that as well? I dont want to brick my device.
*Edit* Nevermind, my work was blocking the video.

Also How on earth can you spend that kinda money in a month
What was it 699 or more for the first one and 500 for the wifi one
Also good to know when i get mine next week, I ordered my 32gb but wont arrive til next wed the earliest :victory:
For development, I need both so I can testing everything, I don't want to see people bricking their $500-600 tablets because I didn't test it first.

Download Mode = Power + VDown for 20 secs
Recovery = Power + Vup until your screen goes off and note resets, then let go only of your power button.

[s4 active i9295 intl. version] root

Lacking a dedicated forum for the (s4 active i9295 intl. version), I suggest collecting all information regarding root for this model in this thread.
We have learned that GeoHots one-click-root does not work on the i9295.
However, as the i9295 seems to have an unlocked bootloader, custom development should actually be easier for this model.
edit: just realized that due to s4-forum-confusion, this was posted in a sub-forum for canadian s4. To the Mods: Could you please put this wherever you think it should be? I just can´t make head nor tail of the s4-forum organization.

If your bootloader is unlocked this should be fairly easy. Just get a custom recovery flashed through odin and flash the root flash. I would look to the international S4 threads or tmobile threads.
What made the AT&T active so hard was lack of bootloader unlock
What I would try
1. Get the Odin flash for TWRP recovery for the s4
2. Flash it in ODIN and reboot into recovery
3. Once in recovery select reboot to system and it should prompt you to install root
DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK, THIS IS WHAT I WOUKD TRY IN MY DEVICE BUT I AM NOT A DEV
Moved to S4 international General as requested

Tried that, but recovery never boots on. Stuck on galaxy logo with small blue text upper left corner.

i9505 TWRP show same blue text, but shows black screen after that.
I think its time to wait some skilled developer taking this matter to his own hands.
The main hardware difference between i9505 and i9295 is:
1) camera, which obviously should not be a problem with recovery, and
2) screen (AMOLED vs. TFT) which might just be the issue we are dealing with here.
Does anybody know if TWRP can be reconfigured for our TFT size? I remember having similar issues with CWM for the Acer Iconia Tab 505 and 700, where different screen size in an otherwise identical unit rendered CWM unusable.

hmm just checked... both are 1920 x 1080 so screen resolution is the same. I don´t think AMOLED v. TFT-LCD requires different firmware when resolution is the same... I hope Samsung has not changed memory management ... both are 2gb RAM / 16 gb internal
... **** ... why does it not work with i9505 recovery???ß

[Kernel/Root] Root for the SM-G530P 5.1.1 [AOI1]

Root method for AOI1 / 5.1.1 for the SM-G530P THIS WILL TRIP KNOX. If you don't want to trip knox don't use this. If you do use it and whine you tripped knox because you didn't read ,we will all point and laugh at you.
Named it TrapKernel because well its not my normal HispAsian Kernel and I listened to a crap ton of Trap Music while doing it.
Thanks to @g.lewarne and his root method with his Unibase and Unikernel for the s6 , we finally have root after I ported it over to us. So be sure to thank him for his work.
What's included:
Auto installation of root and busy box
Kernel set to permissive
Otherwise stock
So here's the deal. Stupid simple. Make sure OEM unlock is checked in dev options if you have it.
1. Put Phone in Download mode
2. Open Odin
3. Connect Phone

Make that 9. I have it rooted but need a cwm or other recovery too.
Friendly warning for people who are rooting the G530P after March 26th, there is a new software version rolling out labelled as APC4. It's still 5.1.1 but there could be compat. issues if updated to APC4. Unknown yet. Try at your own risk.
Thanks again to OP for making this phone rootable lol

My friend tried it just now and she said it did root the device. So no compat issues. People can enjoy the APC4 bugfixes with the AOF8 / AOI1 root kernel.
Not booting
OK, I have a SM-G530P with 5.1.1 AOl1, after flashing this with Odin and it doesn't get past the SprintSpark boot screen.
Clarification needed
Is this 'Permanent Root'? I rooted my G530P using the CF method and when using EFS Pro, it told me that the device didn't have permanent root. Can anyone tell me if CF is permanent or Temporary?
Excuse me for being a a beginner at this but, would I be able to remove the kernel and go back to the original and if so what is the process?

Galaxy S5 Android™ version 6.0.1, Marshmallow (G900AUCU4DPC1) release imminent?

Samsung recently updated its version history @ http://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00036623/997495262/
to call out version name of the new update - G900AUCU4DPC1
Anyone got the prompt or update so far?
Our friends have made it easy:

man, you have not been paying attention at all. Android M has been released for all other carrier and non-carrier variants and none of those have the new touchwiz. Same ugly and slow UI with some of the M features under the hood but not all (like no support for extenal storage as internal).

I have the Good Lock (replacement system ui) installed on my (so far) uprooted S7 edge G935FD on 6.0.1 so I think you will be able to install it via Galaxy app store as well.. Without root.

That's on s7, if we don't have it in the store I don't think it's possible with no root.

I guess time will tell, I wouldn't think it'd be possible to load a system app without root just with adb. I guess since it's an official Samsung dealio.

ODIN requires your phone to be bootloader unlocked, it's complex and risky, plus you'll wipe everything on the phone.
Why not just borrow an AT&T sim from someone with an AT&T phone? I've done that few times in the past, just take about half an hour, mostly waiting for it to be downloaded.
Another option would be look for the Samsung Experience Center in Bestbuy, they can upgrade for you when it's ready, don't think the update is ready as of now.
