HTC calculator app - Sprint HTC One (M8)

The stock Rom does not include a stand alone app. Here is a working apk. You have to copy it to /system/app in twrp.

Doesn't make sense to me either. You would think a calculator would be on all phones by now by default.

I think it gets deleted from data/preload when you unlock bootloader since it wipes data

Can this just be installed regularly? Or does it have to be flashed in TWRP? Havent got the phone yet, will have it Wednesday just trying to get all my stuff ready for when it comes.

Typically, system apps can't install by conventional methods (although there are a few exceptions, Google Maps being one of them). You have to use a file manager to push the file to /system/app as listed above, and be sure to set the permissions. The permissions should match the rest of the apks in the folder.
If you don't know how to get the permissions to match the other files, then check the permissions of another apk that does match, and use the same layout.

I also wonder if this is a symptom of the Unlocking process. I just got my M8 yesterday and have not Unlocked it yet and I have a Calculator App. All I've done is set it up and restore a HTC backup from my old EVO LTE. It even restored my homescreen to exactly how it was on my old phone, including widgets, which was convenient. Calculator is sitting right there on my homescreen where it usually is, and it works.

that's odd, I had the calculator before and after unlocking and rooting........

Google Wallet for the HTC ONE.
-Easy fix for viper Rom
-Should work on stock rooted w/ wp . -removed Kernal
-Always save your original build.prop before modifying
Using Rom Toolbox
1. Open up build.prop editor
2. Change the following values
ro.product.model=Galaxy Nexus
ro.product.name=yakju
ro.product.device=maguro
3. Save changes
4. Reboot device, install wallet and open
-wallet takes a couple minutes to initialize so be patient, it works great!
5. Restore your original build.prop
This method should work fine on stock rooted also as long as you have a kernal with /system wp removed.
Also, if you don't want Rom toolbox you can navigate to /system/build.prop and open the file in any text editor to make the changes.

Honestly I'm not sure where I got it. I believe that it came from Viperrom. Duce says that it wasn't added in d3rpONE (I noticed mine working while I was on d3rpONE, but I think something restored it from viperrom), and the only other ROM that I've run is Viper's.

Here's the link for the working (non-modified) Wallet apk that I use, with screenshot showing it on my One.

Just install the apk normally through a file explorer, no need to push with ADB, or do anything in recovery. I uninstalled mine and tested just to be sure.

Well I guess all you would need is the apk and side load it. I use dolphin chrome was great at first but little things bother me like the double tap zoom in sucks. And the last update made it run like ****. I like my bookmarks being synced but then again it really isn't that big of a deal.
Can someone get the apk up? Not having extended controls is horrible. Is there another browser that has edge swiping to control browser?

What do you mean "set the permissions correctly"? I'm not modifying the permissions with anything, and it sets its own permissions upon installation.

I've downloaded the above Browser.apk. I've tried installing it from the downloads folder. Fails. Tried pasting it into /data/app, can't install. Pasting into /system/app, can't install. Tried root app installer. It installs and initially loads with the "signing into gmail" popup. Then crashes and crashes every subsequent launch immediately.
I'm dying to get this browser on the phone. Pleeeeeaaaase, can I have some installation instructions?

[Q] APK's for OTA updates after unlock bootloader

Hi i unlocked the bootloader and as you know the apk's just disappear. I want to get the ones for 3.62.401.1 if it is possible. I did do the factory reseet option to no avail. I am S-OFF so i can relock the bootloader and factory reset?
Of course id rather have the apk's as that would be far easier than the other method. But unfortunately you can't get everything :/

As said above you do not need the apps in the data partition for OTA's. However i know some people do find them useful so i will upload the apps from it, plus the app needed for OTA. From 3.62.401.1 i have no idea if they work on other versions.

Check attachments for the apk's lost. These are lost because they are in data/preload on the stock HTC ROM so when the data partition gets wiped after a bootloader unlock, those apps go bye bye :good:

Wait I have not made any changes to my M8, its completely stock, so I are you saying I would have to HTC dev unlock to be able to use these apps?
Also, my M8 already came with the HTC calc app on it, but not the flashlight.

Completely stock you do have the calculator app(I believe) but not the flashlight app. To install these zips you need to have a custom Recovery to flash them. Many have already unlocked and installed TWRP Recovery). When you unlock through HTCDev a few apps go missing. I do not know exactly what apps because I unlocked as soon as i got the M8.
I guess I don't understand why I need to unlock the phone to install the flashlight app...? If I can get the flashlight.apk, shouldn't I just be able to install it like any other app? Sorry if I am seeming like a noob here...lol...I'm really not, I've rooted and flashed many phones but not my last few. (Last one I did was my 4g Lte. Didn't do my One or One Max or this M8.)

The apps are installed to the /data directory from factory instead of as a /system app. When you run the HTC unlock - your /data is wiped therefore you will not have any of the factory pre-loaded /data apps.

Apparently on the HTC One of last year - HTC did hash checks to see if all factory apps were still installed before advertising an OTA to your phone. So if you were unlocked you were unable to receive an OTA because you wouldn't have those apps available.
Here's the HTC flashlight.apk
Here is the HTC flashlight.apk. No need to flash in recovery...just install like a normal app. I am not rooted or unlocked...all stock. I just saved it to my Google Drive, made sure my settings>security>allow installation of apps from unknown sources> is checked, then opened and installed the .apk directly from Drive. Works flawlessly

Thank you for the QR code. Was able to install the HTC flashlight straight from downloads. You rock.

Can u do this with the calculator also? Or does that need to be flashed because it is a system app?

Try it. The worst that will happen is that you'll get an "installation failed" error.

Not sure if something was updated or of it's just me. I'm able to download it, I have Unknown Sources checked off, it opens to install but the "install" button is un-clickable. It's there along with Cancel but only the Cancel button works.
Not rooted.
