Dot view with NFC? - One (M8) Accessories

I have the M8 on Verizon with the Dot View case. Tried Google Wallet while using the case and it said it detected the reader at the store but it did not complete.
Pretty sure Wallet works with the M8 on Verizon, so wondering of it's the Dot View case interfering.

Yeah nevermind, tried again later and works. False alarm.

NFC doesn't work with the HTC DOUBLE DIP Case.

Tested 3 NFC tags in my flat. No Google Wallet to test out in the wild. I went into a Sprint store 2 days ago and one for one returned the HTC Flip Dip Case because I hated how I couldnt take pictures on the fly and texting was awkward. Great for media and using it as desk prop but not too functional IRL. Just a heads up.

Are you sure it's the case? You can confirm that your NFC tags work when the Double Dip is removed?
I am able to use Android beam between my one with the Double Dip case on and my wife's SGS3.

I can Android Beam to my other phones but still cannot access the tags unless I take the case off.

gonna get a gunmetal grey htc m8 which color dot view case would look good out of black and grey :good:
Warning: the wired review says the cover doesn't fold back all the way.
EDIT: Nevermind, I guess you can. Quality Wired journalism at its best.
Also, I'm curious about the front camera cutout, can someone who gets it see if they can take a selfie with the cover closed?
Anyone know if the one Verizon has is unmolested or did Verizon find a way to put their logo on it?
Flip Case cover blocking camera?
Exactly how to you take a pic with this case on?
Looks like the cover will be in the way and from the images of the case, the volume buttons are on the hinge side.
Am I missing something? Just looks like a PIA to take a pic with that case.

the Verizon logo is on the back of the phone. Only logo on the front of the device is the HTC logo which i really like. I'm debating about reviewing the IMEI sticker on the back of the device.

That sticker was the first thing to go on my DNA and on the M8. Can't tell about the verizon logo and 4g LTE on the back. They could be screen print and they could be etched. They don't look out of place like the IMEI sticker though.
pretty sure that he is asking about whether the CASE has a verizon crap printed on it. not the actual phone
looks like no
Verizon had the case available for $40 when I picked up the phone yesterday in Clearwater, FL. But I went with the Otterbox Commuter instead since the dot case does not protect the right side of the phone.

exact same reason i didn't buy one yesterday at Verizon yesterday
i'd say wait for the knock offs. The way it activates is when the lil HTC logo touches the screen...only a matter of time before case makers reverse engineer it.
EDIT: I think its a great case, but $40-50 for it is just insane! Its plastic for god's sake!
It still says out of stock for me.
I'm mildly interested, but I bought a premium-feeling phone for a reason, so I'd like to avoid putting a case on it if possible.
Does anyone know where I can buy a dot view case in the UK? My phone is arriving today so wanted to go out and buy it.

For anyone thinking of using a Tetrax mount with their M8

I've used Tetrax mounts for a couple of my phones now and they've all worked great. I would put the metal disc on the back of a case so i wouldn't have to stick anything directly on the phone. When it came to the M8 though i suspected that there would be a problem since the back of the case is where the dot view case has a magnetic switch to tell the phone when its in a dot view case.
I tested it by simply putting my phone up to the tetrax base without the disc, and the screen went off. When i powered it back on it was the dot view app so if anyone is going to use a tetrax mount, you'll have to freeze or get rid of the dot matrix app somehow. I'm rooted so i just used titanium, not sure if the app itself can be disabled on stock firmware though. After it is disabled the screen will turn off when you put it on the mount but it won't trigger dot view.
Oh, this is good to know! I've been using the Tetrax X-Way for a few generations of devices now, but since I wasn't able to find a good slim fit case yet, I took someone's suggestion of trying the Kenu Airframe and so far, it works just as well without the hastle of having the special "car case".

Strange, I've been using mine with it for the past few days and it has never kicked into dot mode. Maybe the case is thick enough that I have. I have a thinner one on order so hopefully it won't change.
I tried it with a tpu one and its doing it. A thicker case like an otterbox might be just thick enough

This is the case I bought until my real case shows up. I mounted the disc right above the kickstand hinge

This is the case I am waiting on, if it goes into dot mode with it I guess I have a decision to make.

Dot View case on sale. Black and grey under $10 USD

Quick Amazon search (not signed in, no referral/affiliate link)
I never cared about the Dot View case, but I just ordered one. $9.30 with the NC state sales tax. Can't beat that. I guess I've been a little curious about them, since there are a lot of decent cases under ten bucks, but I pretty much sprung on this one.
No idea how long the sale is for. Could be over any time, really.
Bought one. Thanks!
Match price it at best buy and got it for $9.4O
Just make sure to get the one that is shipped and sold by Amazon. I got one last week for $12 and it is 100% genuine. Not the best case I have ever used, but for $12 It's a cool case for going out, and showing off.

mine takes like three weeks to get here
Can anyone confirm, that the M8 fits with the Dot view Case in the Car D190?
Regarding shipping, I ordered just before or after I posted, on a Saturday. They said it would be here Monday. It was here Tuesday. So 3 days instead of 2 (I have Amazon Prime).
The case fits but not completely. The bottom part fits like a glove. There's no mistaking how it fits in. Perfect fit. However the lid (the dot view part) does not close all the way. I have nothing on my screen, not even a screen protector.
The dot view gimmick is just that. You can swipe on the case but you have to really press. You might be surprised by how much pushing you have to do. You can't change the theme. You can't customize a thing about it. You can change the temperature units in Settings → HTC Weather. This is not very intuitive and it's not stated anywhere in the manual.
The magnet thing works great. When you open it, the screen comes on. When you close it, the phone goes to sleep.
Dark grey means grey that is not light. I wouldn't call it dark, either. It's just grey. It's similar to the gun metal grey finish of the phone (if you have that option — I do, except stupid PC Verizon calls it "metal grey" since "gun" is a bad word now) but matte, not glossy. And it extends the premium feel of your phone. It feels like a premium product. It feels like a genuine HTC accessory.
It does leave dot view smudges on your screen, but these are easily wiped off with a microfiber cloth, which every phone owner should have, anyway.
You can forget about one-hand usage. You will need the other hand to hold the case open while you text.
I use a FlyGrip and I have their case. The FlyGrip would not stick to the bare back of the HTC One M8. I don't know if that's because the adhesive doesn't bond to metal. It's peeled off my naked Samsung Galaxy S3 and two of its cases cleanly, so the bond is not permanent. I might try attaching my FlyGrip to the Dot View case, but what would be the point? The FlyGrip is made to accommodate one-handed phone use. Dot View prevents it. And with a FlyGrip, you gain a kickstand, but you just can't lay your phone flat on its back.
So now I have two cases, and though I meant to take the Dot View case to work, I just didn't bother taking my phone out of the FlyGrip case. I intend to keep the Dot View case, but probably won't. I have one IRL friend with a One M8, and I might let him try it out, but he only uses his phones naked. He doesn't like cases at all and thinks they're a waste of time that take away from the engineering of the phone — especially a nice one like ours. And I don't disagree, but I like the FlyGrip's utility. It's useful to me. It prevents drops. But it isn't cheap.
Bought a new one because it's cheaper, forgot it doesn't work well with my glass screen protector. =\

Theme stuff is in the HTC Dot View app. If not on phone, then it's on Google Play.
Also if you're rooted, you can do a lot more, theme-wise.

Anyone have a case with nfc card holder?

Is anyone using a case that you can fit an nfc enabled credit card, transit card, or work id in and get it to scan on an nfc reader? Basically what I'm trying to do is find a case where I could fit a transit pass in it between the back of the phone and inside of the car so I could just pull out my phone and tap it to the NFC reader when boarding a bus or train. The problem is that most cases are too thick on the back to allow the transit card to be read.

The problem with that kind of case is that you cannot have nfc on the phone turned on or you or the phone will probably randomly make sounds.
I have used nfc card in flip cases, with spaces for cards in the "door", for both my nexus 4 and 5X.

You'd be better served to place that NFC card for the transit card in your wallet. It makes more sense anyway, since you're paying for the ride.
I'm assuming of course, that you're not one of those people who have their phone case also contain their wallet...since you would have mentioned that.
