[Q] HTC logo screen wont boot - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got my HTC One less than a week ago and today it wanted to update to android software 4.3 I believe. I honestly dont know anymore cause I cant check. I downloaded the update and clicked install. It restarted and now has been stuck at the white HTC logo screen without quietly brilliant. It has been like that for almost 3 hours and actually died completely I plugged it up and let it charge and turned it back on and still stuck on this screen I even tried to factory reset with the power button volume down boot thing. Sorry im not smart with this stuff. When I did factory reset it went to a black screen with a green load logo then went back to this screen. Just made an account to post this someone please help. Thanks.

Did you have any mods installed? You can just boot to fastboot and flash an RUU to return to stock.

So I went to best buy and got the new phone today. Its currently on android 4.1.2 Can you help me update it to the latest without me bricking it again?

Don't install any mods this time and update via OTA as normal
Make sure your boot loader status is locked and s on
I assume you don't want s-off?

why is the term 'brick' used commonly.
wen your phone gets bricked, it's called so cos that's all its good for!
it wont start, boot, vibrate, flash lights, sing songs, nothing!
that's the stage wen the phone is good to throw against the wall

"stock" HTC incredible S stuck on HTC Screen

Hi,
Both my Girlfriend and myself have "stock" (never flashed not roms installed) HTC incredible S handsets.
In the last week hers has suddenly started hanging on the HTC boot screen.
Earlier in the week I used the boot menu and managed to run factory reset which worked succesfully. This morning phone has asked to do an OTA update from Optus. (same upgrade she had installed before the last "hang")
Ran the update and it rebooted.. it is now hanging on the HTC screen. When trying to run factory reset it either shows a red triangle with an exclamation mark or reboots and hangs on the HTC screen.
I have not rooted it (these are 100% stock phones) and have searched through the forums but most of the posts Ive seen related to taking modded phones back to stock and not fixing a stock boot problem.
As I have the exact same model is there any way I can copy critical files from my handset to hers to resolve this issue?
Is there a stock Image file I can download and install?
Warranty is out of the question so I need to try and resolve this by myself..

Hi Mark, here's the Optus Sense 3 RUU http://d-h.st/cGj
Download and run that on your PC following the prompts. You may need to be in bootloader mode but looks like you can access that already.
Be aware that this will return the phone to a completely out of the box, factory condition.
Thanks...

[Q] Flashed custom kernel on Stock rom..

So, with all the excitement of just getting my HTC one on saturday, I got down to business today doing some rooting. This is not my first htc device, i owned the evo 4g before.
With that said, What I did was have a rooted stock rom. I never flashed a new rom to the phone at all. I was trying to do the HTC logo button hack, I downloaded the kernel and flashed away. well, now the problem is the phone will start up and get to where the lock screen should be, It will show the status bar at the top and thats it, hangs for about 20 seconds and then restarts
It constantly does this... I have just updated the sprint software maybe 1.31 something? it was OTA I did before rooting.
I have tried to sideload a rooted odexed stock rom and have not had any success. I also tried running the sprint RUU but it was for 1.29, so it got almost to the end and told me it couldnt do it.
I am working from a mac, but have access to PC if needed. I am using clockwork mod recovery and can still get into it. just stuck on where to go from here..
All help is appreciated, ive spent the last 7 hours trying to fix this problem!
Guys, I am without a phone until this issue is fixed, any and all help is appreciated!!!

Do you have a rom downloaded on your phone? Did you make nandroid? If yes just restore. Do you have otg cable? If yes, download a rom. Do full wipe, cache, dalvik cache, data, and system. Try flashing the rom from otg. What kernel did you flash?
Sent from my lair.
The guy who made the htc one logo hack made a kernel that he released, I flashed that on top of the stock sprint rom. I had a nandroid, but it got wiped. I do not have an OTG cable. I have tried to sideload various roms and I can get it to boot, but I get no cell signal, sometimes i get the error that the system is not responding and i have the option to wait or kill.
I have gotten into the baseband settings and see that I do not have a baseband in there, maybe thats the issue? Also I just took the 1.31 ota update, I am getting an error using the sprint RUU about the boot loader not being correct version. from the fastboot screen I have the following
perhaps bad boot.img??

A flashed kernel will overwrite your boot.img, so that really shouldn't be it. An RUU requires your bootloader be locked though, which is probably part of your issue.

It keeps rebooting because of the system not responding, not getting any cell service at all

problem with that though, I do not see a windows executable from there. the other issue is im using a mac, as far as i know everything works the same when it comes to adb and fastboot.
How would I flash a zip file if I cannot access my recovery? for instance how do I push the file to my device? when i relock the phone, and try to enter recovery, i get routed right back to bootloader
Figured out the issue, turned out that the problem came from firmware being absent... I was able to reflash the firmware and away it went, able to get into the phone now and do what i please!
Thanks for all help from everyone!!!

do you have s-off? you can only flash a RUU with s-off...
How exactly did the computer glitch? Calm down, if you can get into the bootloader which I assume you can (as you can see the tampered etc tags) then it's still salvageable. As the person above asked, do you have s-off?

nope still got it to work though. was very shocked. bootloader worked, was locked, and s-on. could not do ruu so i found a stock rom i ran it once got a security issue then manually typed it in something like fastboot flash image XXX.zip and got another thing 12 security signature or something other, ran it again imediatelly <did not close command prompt and left phone with the htc emblem on there> with the same command and surprisingly it worked!
Unlock then reflash a recovery

Yep, that should do it since you unlock and flash from the bootloader.

Flash TWRP 2.6.3.3 then use it to install this rom https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358545524
In the Aroma installer choose options
Stock Recovery = Yes
Stock Radio = Yes
Root = No
When its done reboot the phone. you should be back to stock. Also OTA updates should work

It will install stock with root if you install an OTA you will have to reroot afterwards.
Obviously if you select no to stock recovery you'll stay with TWRP but OTA installs will fail.
One last thing if you ever thought about going s-off do it before you use any OTA updates.
With hboot 1.56 and stock Rom you can s-off with rumrunner for free. If you update to hboot 1.57 the only method is Sunshine and it costs $25 :good:

You need s-off to go back to 100% stock. What was the error rumrunner gave.
It may be some time before I reply, I'm about to sit down to a meal

About the stock recovery, it's normal for it to go to a black screen. After a while it should display an image of a phone with red exclimation. That's normal too.
At this point hold volume up and press the power button to see the recovery menu. Ignore the errors about mount sd card that's also normal

It's totally up to you it depends how you feel about it. If the device still has warranty you will need s-off should you ever want to claim on it. It's also the reason I pointed you to the Stock reset rom rather than the RUU. Because the latest available RUU for your device has a lower firmware version than currently on the device. So you need s-off to use it.
But if your not that bothered then just go ahead and keep the device s-on. It just means that if you update the device and then later need s-off for some reason your only way will be Sunshine which you have to pay for. So i preffer to make people aware of it. But its totally up to you :good:
