Android Wear on Glass? - Glass Q&A

Has anyone tried pushing the Android Wear app to Glass yet? Now that Glass is running KK it might be possible.

[Q] Screen Protector - Curved Screen causes bubbles?

Hi,
I have tried several dry-application screen protectors, and I am unable to apply them without strip of air at the top and bottom edges. I am presuming that this is due to the curvature of the display.
Has anyone found a screen protector that doesn't have this issue? I am aware that some manufacturers shorten the top and bottom edges of their protectors to avoid this.
Also, do wet-application protector fare better in this regard?
Thanks.

I got a free screen protector when a bought a gel case on ebay, the interesting thing was that the screen protector was slightly curved in shape so I didn't have too much problem with bubbles and removed them by pressing down on the bubbles gently with a credit card.
This is the case I bought: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/RED-S-CU...AU_MobilePhoneAccessories&hash=item2a11860e69
neo: That's good to know. You're referring to the strips of air at the very edges of the display, right?
CMX: hmm, that's quite interesting. I have never heard of a curved protector before.
Yea i just used a hairdryer...it work great!!..i used a heat gun once n that work even better

[Q] Will we be needing Copter/Invisible Shield on the Z?

Hey guys!
I'm just wondering if we'll need Copter/Invisible Shield on this device. I'm seeing mixed information, as in some people stating that it won't come with any screen protectors "out of the box". While the glass is supposed to be shatterproof, it won't be (if I interpreted it correctly) scratch resistant without some sort of screen protector. Is that correct?
What's your take on Copter/Invisible Shield for the Z?
No need unless you put diamonds in your pocket which can scratch glass.

Amazon but it come with the Note 3 screen protector too. No idea on the quality but it is a tad expensive. Not heard of the brand either.
I want to know what the screen is made of. Can you imagine how odd it is to wear a watch with a plastic screen protector on it?

Sources say the Gear comes with sapphire glass, which is very hard. I'm not planning on using a screen protector on the Gear.

Indeed. if it is true that the Gear has a sapphire glass then only a diamond can scratch it. Diamond rates 10 on the Mohs scale and sapphire glass a close 9. I collect watches and those with a sapphire glass simply don't scratch.
The only question I have in my mind is how on earth have Samsung managed to use sapphire glass?. The cost of such a watch crystal would be the total price of the watch. Sapphire watch glass is a small, or large, fortune!
This one puzzles me. Anyone seen an official Samsung written spec sheet stating sapphire as the crystal?
Best wishes.
On Amazon.com I see GG and GN3 bundled screen protectors and while the screen its saphire crystal the edge around it is metal so I would prefer not to scratch the metal up.
I did find Skinomi has one up by itself here http://www.amazon.com/SkinomiĀ®-Tech...&sr=8-2&keywords=Galaxy+Gear+Screen+Protector
Just read the online Samsung manual and notice they specifically write NOT to use a screen protector on the gear.
I think they are talking about a screen saver like your computer has or some animated screen motion since it would just kill the battery.

"Do not use a screen protector. This causes sensor malfunctions."
Above taken from the manual
I read that also. Do not use a screen protector.

Well that clears it up, but the way the post I replied to was written and now edited are different. So no screen protectors, ok, I can live with that. But someone should really tell the damn screen protector companies otherwise they are going to wreck a lot of GG devices.
They also said not to use screen protectors in the Note 1 and Note 2 manuals.
The S Pen and touch works fine with screen protectors on.
I think they say more to cover their own butt.
If anyone does have a problem, then they can tell them to try without the screen protector first. They have no control over the quality of third party screen protectors or the materials used.

The screen is said to be made from sapphire crystal. With this in mind it will certainly not need a screen protector.
Gorilla glass by Corning or Dragontrail is hardened glass not sapphire so will need protection at present. Both manufacturers make it clear their glass is scratch resistant NOT scratch proof. The only material that can mark sapphire glass is diamond or, of course, a sapphire.
To give you an idea, on the Moh scale diamond scores 10, sapphire glass scores 9.
Hope this helps?

Protection for Z1S (T-Mobile USA). Any recommendations?

HI there. Just ordered my Z1S and I'm really excited. Unfortunately it is new, limited to one carrier, and designed slightly differently than the international equivalent. So that means it's hard to find accessories.
I'm wondering if there are any manufacturers I should look out for that might produce a product I could use to protect the glass on the front and back. From what I've seen they are in fact pretty shatter-proof, but seem to scratch very easily.
I've never been the type to ever put a case on my phone, personally I think they detract from the beauty of the device, but I've seen some Nillkin glass screen protectors that don't look too bad.
I bought the Nilkin tempered glass for my Z1. Will never use any screen protector but tempered glass from now on. Really happy with it.
Couldn't get the link but search for this on eBay.

I already contacted the seller on ebay to see if they could source it for the Z1S. I don't see why not. That stuff all comes from factories in Shenzen and Shanghai... they can pump out stuff so fast. They have accessories made long before a device is announced.
My understanding is that the phone comes with the factory screen protector already installed

And in my experience when something is shatterproof it tends to scratch easily. Just like when something doesn't break it bends. There's always a tradeoff when you want lightweight protection.
There's some nasty scratch tests on youtube with the z1. Some drop tests too. Didn't shatter, but it didn't look pretty after.
If I can put an additional layer of strong glass on the front and back protect the nice stuff underneath... worth it.

Did you ever find a good screen protector? I got a scratch on the factory one and want to remove it to replace it. At least I hope the scratch is only on the protector...
Thanks
Check out xtreme guard, they have both wet and dry install screen protectors for Z1s. I got both but used wet first.
So far, our Z1s doesn't have a reliable glass protector. I'm waiting for spigen to have one.

Tempered Glass with LOCA

With no one really having a great solution to the curved tempered glass, because the only adhesive is on the edges and not on the entire glass. Has anyone ever tried to use Liquid optically clear adhesive (LOCA) on the part of the tempered glass that sits on actual screen, because in theory wouldn't that keep the tempered glass on a lot better and prevent those edges that lift? I dont have any LOCA and havent been able to try this out. Also does anyone know if LOCA would mess up gorilla glass?
In the GLOBAL forum, someone has with success.

I thought I had looked in the global forums, But thanks for the link, They don't describe the procedure though, has anyone on this forum tried it and had any results?
I didnt try but i did replace few broken screens. What i would do is first dry fit screen protector. If ok use masking tape to cover everything except screen. Apply loca glue and install screen protector. Squize out all air bubles and wipe out all extra glue before you apply uv light. Since screen is curved it could be a little messy to perform it and this is why i would mask whole phone
