Square-Enix software and Kit Kat - Droid Ultra Themes and Apps

Anyone able to get anything besides Final Fantasy III working after the numerous Kit Kat updates? Almost wish I could go back to Jellybean. I have numerous $16 games that simply crash on launch since upgrading and I'd love to get them working. I've removed Xposed and I'm not using ART. Any help would be much appreciated.

I have not tried playing FF4 since I got my maxx, but if FF7 gets to android I will for sure hope it works on kit kat.

Do you happen to be using ART?

Just tried FF3 on my Droid Maxx on the latest 4.4 update, no issues what so ever. Was able to open and play with literally zero issues.

Like I said, FF III works fine. Turns out the problem is Xposed. Converting it and all modules to system apps fixes the issues.

Anyone check it out and see how it compares to Hashcode's CM10.1 build? I'm assuming it suffers from similar bugs such as no hwcomposer
Edit: I now see that Hashcode is actually an AOKP maintainer now, so chances are high that this is very similar to his CM10.1, save for the AOKP features
Waiting for more feedback before I check it out.
I've been running it for about a week. I'm really enjoying it. It's very fast, light on battery, and stable. As long as you use a third party app for camera/camcorder, everything works. I would definitely recommend trying this out.

HDMI? I know webtop doesn't work properly on any non-Blur ROM, but can you at least do mirroring?
fantastic! Checking it out now.
Does this still have the bluetooth issues?

I just flashed this ROM and WOW is it clean. BEST JB build yet! I was using Icarus but this is way ahead of that. Full Google Now, lock screen widgets (still don't know how to add them yet ) but very clean AOKP build. I'm impressed.

Better than Icarus HD 1.7.x? Because I'm still on Icarus HD 1.5 and was looking to update but I might forego the entire process and just start new with AOKP.

Funny I don't have problems with either of those. Yes camera is a known issue with all JB Kexec roms. You need Camera FX or something of the like.
To previous poster yes I find this way ahead of Icarus HD in terms of JB speed and features. Only thing missing from Icarus is stock camera and if you like the dock apps and smart actions you don't have those stock have to get them yourself.

Anybody else having MMS issues? Was working fine in Build 4 but no longer works in Build 5... changing the CDMA subscription back and forth doesn't appear to work.
Also, does anyone know which CDMA subscription we're SUPPOSED to be on? It seems to work fine on both except with no MMS on either. Very strange...

stock for the rom seems to be the one with all, cdma, lte, gsm, etc. I have not had these issues at all on rev 5. Try "reinstalling" the rev 5 in bootstrap over the current one, that fixed an issue I had with data on the radio for a couple hours.
New build released!
I just installed MR1 build 6 and the stock camera works out of the box. Good start to a new ROM release!!
NOTE: You _NEED_ to install it in rom-slot2. It will tell you that after you start flashing, so when you're too late to cancel it.

Anyone know how to get Motorola Smart Actions to work on this ROM? Also the Stock Cardock app would be nice as well. Let me know if it's as simple as just putting it in system/apps and installing. Thanks!
If it doesn't work get Tasker. I know it's pay ware but it's only $2 down from $7. It beats the Crap out of the smart actions tool.

Stuck on 4.4

Anyone else still stuck on 4.4?
I have decided not to root my phone or flash any rom that has not been directly issued to my phone by Google. I'm still too happy with my device to mess around with that.
Therefore, I decided to create a thread for the people who are still using 4.4 because they haven't got the update yet. I'm in Malta... Anyone else?
What's better than the mutual anticipation for something new, right?
Sidenote: will the update fix Google Now not working on some devices?

I think you should at least consider rooting, the benefits of that are countless. I just re-wiped my phone to stock+root so I can just sideload the 4.4.2 update.

Because it hasn't rolled out to everyone yet. Give it time if you don't want to sideload it.
I am on 4.4 and I could have done sideloading, but I don't care much. Been doing enough nightlies with i777 (ATT SGS2) until last month when it died. I like the pure G experience more than I thought (I thought I would go for CM11 immediately after I get N5 then Omni) and I see not much issue with 4.4. I don't use my phone to take a pic much - I have Fuji XE-1 and Canon 5D for that.
I will get it when I get it. Who knows.. Google might have really started nightlies and 4.4.3 is around the corner.
Edit: Well, it looks like they have decided to give it to me just now.
I just got my 4.4.2 ota update yesterday. Chose not to sideload like I did for the 4.4.1 update. My N4 got the ota update on Mon night (it's stock, not rooted). To some degree, it's all just a crap shoot.

There are just different roll-out schedules. Let me put it this way, I was on custom recovery and rooted, and saw I had 4.4.2 update (was on 4.4). So not wanting to mess anything up I went complete stock, though when I rebooted I saw I no longer had it regardless of pressing the update button a million times. So I just ended up side loading it. The reason why it probably was not there, is probably this:
Why is clearing Google Services Framework data is a bad idea?:
There is a myth that has been around for a few years that clearing data in Google Services Framework will get you the OTA faster. Android Engineer Dan Morrill has taken to reddit to explain why NOT to do this and why the method I've described in this thread is the best way to get your update quickly.
Quote:
Doing this changes the primary ID by which Google knows your device. As far as the servers are concerned, the device was basically factory reset. There are many downstream effects of this, but a big one is that this invalidates the tokens used by any app that uses GCM (which is nearly all the Google apps, and a ton of third-party apps.)
How apps react to GCM IDs changing varies by app. With Play Store you have to log out and log back in, I think Gmail usually handles it transparently eventually but won't get new mail notifications for a while, etc. Some apps you may have to clear data on to recover. All apps will simply stop getting GCM push-messages, until they get a new GCM ID; some do this frequently, others rarely, and some apps use the GCM ID as an ID on their own servers (as it is opaque and basically random), so other things besides push messages may not work.
Nothing bursts into flames, but it makes a ton of nuisances on the device, including some that can look pretty mysterious. Your mileage will vary depending on what apps you use.
All of this can be avoided by just doing an 'adb sideload' if you are impatient. -Dan Morrill

I am assuming it was no longer valid for me because my ID changed when I wiped my phone. So with that being said, your choices are to either wait, or side load.

From the sheer number of posts showing problems with sideloading, I recommend waiting for the OTA update. Why risk so many issues and buggy software just to get an update a few days earlier?

common miss-conception.
sideload is just a different channel to put the damn OTA zip on your phone. there is no higher / lower rate of issues than getting the actual OTA, you will be in the same boat.
Got tired of waiting in Dallas yesterday. I know...patience is a virtue but no a strong point of mine. Wanted to check the camera out so I side loaded both updates early last night.
My N5 has been working like a champ. Camera and speaker are definitely improved!

There are no problems with sideloading if one hasn't messed with their phone. Issues arise when one tries to sideload the OTA and they have modified files in /system.

Xposed not working Verizon Nexus 5.1?!

Xposed got big because it brought customization to many phones that had root but locked bootloaders. It's a little less useful when you're on a custom ROM but there's a lot of app hacks. I like it to do simple things like save all my Snapchats without notifying people or unlimited skips in Pandora.
Not to mention some of the top devs prefer to work on Xposed rather than ROMs since it isn't device specific. So a stock 5.0.2 ROM with the Gravity Box module has more customization features than most of our current ROMs do. Here's the full module repository:

Xposed does a heck of a lot more than just block ads. The uses for it are almost endless. It allows almost limitless customization. Everything from UI modifications to, unlimited Pandora skips. It literally gives you all the options of a really really feature filled custom rom while still running the stock rom. Take some time and look through all the xposed modules for it and all the things they can do. That should give you an idea of how much you can do with it.

For me its the little things. Like crappalinks. Don't ya hate how tapatalk does a link hijack? Fixed. Want to use Google voice to text with Swype. Fixed. Hate the stupid "hey dummy, you are using a vpn, that you know, you like installed and set up and launched?" Fixed. Removes a lot of little annoyances that the custom ROM devs are too busy making the **** work to begin with to address.
Also, Gravity Box, lol. The last six months or so of my use of my old S4 was on a Google Edition ROM port. It was by far the best performing ROM, but it also lacked features, kind of like the stock based ROMs here. Gravity Box brought almost all of the features of custom ROMs to the GE ROM.

Xposed is a framework that allows you to "inject" new functions, settings, code into any ROM or app. For example, you may want a custom rom so you can customise your notification quick settings. With xposed, you can install a custom module that will allow that without changing the rom. If no rom has all the features you want, find the feature you want as an xposed module and add it.. Thats what the fuss is about. Its very flexible.,
Here is one of my favourite modules on this device...

Actually I found out about adfree and tried it. Still get ads in apps. Of course YouTube still has ads too which I don't expect will be fixed until we get xposed back.
Xposed is awesome and I cannot wait to get it on 5.1. So someone asked what does it do/why use it? There are many reasons.
You want to keep the original OS after root but still want all of the features of cyanogenmod or whatever. Xposed has a lot of them and more. For instance you could set your verizon phone to tether with a click of a button, add a date in the top toolbar, change colors of things, add battery %, get rid of ads, etc. Just tons of awesome things. With my gNex I always just flashed new roms when I wanted new stuff. But with my moto X I wanted to keep the OS and still get those advantages so I used xposed and really liked it. Now with the n6 I again really like the OS so I do not want to flash a new rom so xposed it is (once its working).
I think xposed is the way of the future. No more flashing roms and stuff when you can keep your OS and just add features you want.
I really just use it to get most of the customization I used to get from custom roms without the hassle of having to flash custom roms all the time.
It will come to 5.1 just need a little patience, it didn't take that long to get it on 5.0 and that was a much bigger update.

Yes the Android modding scene has changed drastically in the last few years. I remember when I first got into modding Android on my Verizon S3. That was also when xposed first came out. 3 flagship phone generations ago. I remember waiting for the Verizon Jelly bean update. 4.1.2 Hahaha. Gold old days. (only 3 years ago. Lol). We had actual leaked insecure bootloader on the s3. The last Samsung device on Verizon to gave a legit unlocked bootloader. Not the work around line Loki or stupid safestrap on the s5. That's why I quit the Samsung line last year and got an M8. Now I have a Nexus. Quitting Samsung was a good choice though by the looks of it, the S6 in all its variants sucks. If I wanted an iPhone I would get an iPhone.

good question on the counter, I have restarted my phone and have not seen it, Buuut I did freeze knox though. As far as updating Use Kies took about 10 mins
USB audio?
I got the Lollipop update this morning through T-mobile. It was smooth to update, and I haven't noticed battery issues or anything others had reporter.
However, I was super-excited for Lollipop, because it allows for USB microphones. And I've tried all 5 of the ones I own without success. I tried Samsung support, which was useless. They weren't even aware of the feature.
Do you think it's possible that Samsung or T-mobile bypassed this native feature to Lollipop? I was connecting via OTG cable. I haven't tried mic to powered hub to OTG yet, because I've seen Nexus owners on Lollypop just connect USB microphones via OTG.
I'd be grateful for any advice any of you gurus have out there. I am not rooted or running anything custom. I've been fairly happy with stock. But, like I started with, I was all the while looking forward to this Lollypop update for portable recording via USB. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks.
Downloading as I type...I'm sure I am wasting my time since I been rocking BeanStalk 5.0.2, but my curiosity is making me just give it a look and see how it works. It'll be nice to use the S-Pen features again, but Lollipop without all the bs that samsung and tmo put on there has been nothing short of amazing.
Why have the note 4 when you can have PURE android just like you want with the new 6 inch moto. But whatever guess I will never understand why people will buy a car. Assuming that you're talking about the Nexus 6/Moto X Pro, there's no need to debate/discuss why I would want TouchWiz on ANY level, which is why I was close to buying a Nexus 6. Honestly though, for me, while the Nexus 6/Moto X Pro isn't a bad phone(they're both really great phones), they lost me with no way to add extra storage or remove your battery if needed. In addition, while I have been running Beanstalk for the last few weeks, I still think the S-Pen is a really great feature to have on the Note 4. There's really no need to go into details about which phone is better, because it will always come down to preference, but in regards to your comment, it's not as stripped down as you present it to be.

Updated the Tmobile 5.0 today, deffeantly tell of the changes. My first problem though was the app updates. They would not up date while the new Google Play Services was updated. I Restarted my phone then unistalled the Google Play Services update to finally get rid of the clash. Just an FYI for yall out there

Can I ask how you did that? I upgraded from BeanStalk to stock Lollipop via Kies, but I'm getting force closes on gapps services. Can barely use the phone they are coming in so frequently. What did you do to uninstall gapps and how did you get the correct version installed?

No attitude here, everyone is entitled to their opinions. I am certainly not hating on you for what you're saying and personally, in many(maybe most) aspects, those are flat out better phones than the Note 4. I just installed this bs lollipop so now as I type, I am flashing back to BeanStalk. The lack of a removable battery i could live with, but the expandable storage is a necessity for me, the only reason I am staying with the Note 4 since most phones that are coming out are converting to that style.

You do not need to install gapps on stock ROMs. They are included. Installing them as a zip will break them. So, factory reset (or fresh install), and don't flash gapps.

Hey. Thanks for the reply. I actually didn't install gapps over the stock ROM. Not sure what it didn't like installing over Beanstalk. I did a wipe before I installed via kies. Anyway, I resolved by doing a factory reset, like you said. Did two actually. All is well now, thanks.

Lags and stutters on my Note 4 after Lollipop

My N4 is from Singapore and I updated it to Lollipop 5.0.1 due to OTA update that was always in my face. Since then, the phone experiences lags and stutters a lot to the point where it will be unresponsive for 5 seconds and above.
also, i have very terrible data connection. sometimes the data arrows move but my app does not load. chrome also lags and hangs intermittently.
i have reformatted and cleared cache via recovery. any ideas what i can do to help fix the phone? I am running stock unrooted Note 4. any help will be greatly appreciated.
p.s. I prefer not to root at this point as I want to be able to keep my warranty status intact. Plus xposed on lollipop doesnt seem to have much apps for me so sticking to stock unrooted.
I've been having this problem too, tried custom ROMs and tweaks, things improved but not that much

I flashed Kitkat back after Lollipop 5.0.1
I decide that I will not update my Note 4 any more ........... unless one day .......... there will be a better stable firmware.
I don't care about Lollipop .............. Lollipop is the most faulty Android version ............ keep away from Lollipop
Maybe we should wait for Android M in 2016

Same here! I brought the phone in for service and hoping it will magically come back with 5.1.1 fixing all these stupid bugs. Dont know why did Samsung ruin the perfect N910G! Sigh.

I know what you mean man. I took the adivce of everyone here and rolled it back to kitkat 4.4.4
will test out and see how that goes. otherwise i will let go of it and use the oneplus till note 5/next phone gets released.
ive never had any stutterings or lags whatsoever..im stock
I tried package disabler (yes, I know it costs money), disabled around 40 (non-essential) packages and my note is as smooth as when I first bought it on KitKat.

Please could you export and post this list of packages that you have disabled? I didn't know Package Disabler was a thing - sounds like exactly what I'm after!
Would also love to have that list !!!

Now the package disabler app got colour code for bloatware
Nope, seems to be yet another placebo fix.
Same for my N916S, the stutters and delays annoy me so much, hard to believe it's a stock rom, it probably happens to S5 5.0 as well
But unfortunately, no kitkat for me, my variant is shipped with lollipop out of the box, sign
Factory reset always helps after an OTA update. I had N910F, the European version snapdragon and just few weeks ago replaced it with N910C, UAE version which has exynos chips. I find N910C lags way less. Infact, no lag at all. It came with lollipop installed then I flashed stock Poland firmware as they had the latest.
Everything is working great! Using Google launcher. Hate Samsung's folders and I find Google now one swipe away much more convenient.
