First off, I must start off officially, Hello fellow flashaholics!! I am The SJSharksfan, and i am a flashaholic. I have been affected by this condition for the last 7 years, and this thread might just be the outlet i need to help alleviate the flashaholic tendencies that i (we) suffer from.. So, if you are a member also, feel free to let out some flashaholic stories here too.. Ah, that feels better. So, with that said, I just want to share my personal customizations with the android community. I am not building anything you find on this thread, I am simply making a few minor adjustments.
I have been using smartphones for quite some time now. My first taste of really customizing my device interface was when I was playing with my PalmPre 1 & then Pre2 using webOS. It was very fun. I had to move onto android and had switched over to the Epic Touch 4G. I rooted very fast and was flashing ever since. Now on my S4, the same amount if not more is available to tweak this device as well.
I do like TW based ROMs, but enjoy using AoSP based ROMs more.
The ROM I am currently on is CarbonKK, however since I am a flashaholic 100%, I can't help but test other AoSP based ROMs as often as I can. I started customizing on AiCP, but have always been a CarbonROM fan, so after I test the different builds, I usually land on CarbonROM for my daily. I will add customized builds of AiCP, PA, c-ROM, Vanir & SlimKat along side the Carbon builds though, so if you like those ROMs and my customizations, you can flash which ever you prefer.
Please note: I am not the dev for this rom. I am not building it at all. All I do is extract the directories, make the changes, re-zip, re-sign and create new md5sum.
I test every time I set up a build this way. I am always the first person to test. I then send it to 6 or 7 people that also make sure that it is stable. If it isn't stable, I don't upload to my Mega account. So, even though I am always confident in my customizations, I cannot be responsible if you run into problems. All devices are slightly different due to hardware differences.
Please Note: Any of these builds should be able to get dirty flashed over c-ROM, AiCP or other CarbonROM builds, however you might have to flash clean. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS nandroid before making any changes. With most of the newest builds, even within aOS 4.4.4, you might find that you need to flash clean with whichever build you are trying to flash. gApps also might need to be switched. I find some work better with certain roms than others.
Since this rom is AoSP based, you'll need to flash gApps as normally done for AoSP.
DPI I use is 115. It is very small, but I wear glasses already so I am able to use that low of resolution.
** Please note: this customized build is using the jflte unified base and I add the Sprint variant of the KT Kernel. So if you are on an S4 variant that is not compatible with the LTE unified builds, this will not work on your device. (If you want to use this ROM, you still can, you will just need to have the kernel for your carrier on your SD card when flashing. Flash after you flash the ROM. URL below to find your KT Kernel. If the link isn't working, click to view tkruzze's profile and started threads, he has threads for every carrier's kernels)
The small adjustments I make are as follows:
adding the KT Kernel - SPRINT version baked in!!!!
Custom boot animation (see 2nd post for screenshot)
superSU v2.14
Nova Launcher v3.2 (& Prime)
Apex Launcher (& Pro)
adding the sprint VVM app
working sVoice (you might have to remove and reinstall from the system/priv-app folder)
Xposed Installer for add-on mods, tweaks & more!!
quite a few sound options for ringtones and notifications. A few examples would be COD-BO2 theme music (MP & DubStep Menus), "Droid" alert, ViperAI, Robot28 (iPhone) & FamilyGuy Bag-O-Weed song clip to name just a few
*** NEW!! Microbes LWP included in CarbonROM!! - The only CarbonROM build with it included!! *** (Starting at the 6/30 build)
as of 7/21, I will be changing the included tool apps due to the fact that they are installed as system apps and not user. This is not the best way and I don't want to keep causing issues with the extras I add.
*** PLEASE do not post questions for these versions in the official carbonROM thread. They do not want to support issues using this ROM. They gave me their blessing for starting my own thread, but said please no support questions. If you test this build on your device and see glitches, my thoughts are hardware differences between variants might be the cause. Please flash the official carbon to see if the same issues are there. Please also refrain from posting questions for these builds in the official threads for these builds. The devs for the official builds are not supporting any unofficial builds.
Some folks report some screen flickering at times. Parkourkid let us know that if you are having flicker issues with Hover (which is common with most ROMs including it now), increase their GPU mHz to 200+, he suggests to use 375.. If you look at the change log for the KT Kernel, the 7/12 update added the ktconservativeq gov that seems to address that issue specifically. If you are running the KT kernel and are on a previous version, just update the kernel with your KT Monitor app.
*** STARTING AT THE 6/18 BUILD, AoSP BASED BUILDS NOW SUPPORT APP2SD FUNCTIONALITY!! ***
*** ALL BUILDS WITH THE 6/19 KERNEL SHOULD BE UPDATED MANUALLY TO THE LATEST KT KERNEL (7/12) ***

Update: for me, I've run for 36 hours so far, very stable. I removed many of the extra apps, but the few that I left in MAY need to be switched back to user apps, but for the most part, this build is very stable and has few if any bugs. No bugs from my changes it seems so feel free to test and let me know how its running for you.

MOD - Customize your boot animation!
I've been working on a custom boot animation for DreamXtreme and I thought I'd share it. I tested it already and it works great. There is a slight hiccup in the middle of the animation, but not major. I haven't created a flashable zip yet, but you can set it manually on any rom and it will work. If you need to know how to change boot animations manually, the process is as follows:
DownLoad the animation from my DropBox here
Rename the current file in system/media folder to bootanimation.zip.bak
Copy the downloaded zip to your system/media folder using a file explorer with root priviledges (I use ES)
Change the priviledges forbthe new file to match the previous files settings (should be rw-r--r--)
Reboot
Profit
This process will work with any boot animation you may already have. As long as the file name and permissions are correct, the process will be the same. If you want, I have a bunch in a DropBox folder, feel free to grab any and test or use.. these are some of the ones I think are pretty cool
ROM Installation Process
For first time installation:
WIPE (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition)
Select Rom Zip & Flash
Select gApps Zip & Flash
Reboot & Enjoy
Reflash superSU if you use that superuser app (recommended)
For updating build installation:
WIPE (wipe cache & dalvik cache partitions)
Select Rom Zip & Flash
Select gApps Zip & Flash only if coming from a lower os version, no need to if only updating within the same os versions
Reboot & Enjoy
update superSU bianaries

Changelog
For a detailed changelog of the official builds, check out the changes made each night here: Carbon Changelog
** My customized builds will reflect the same changes as the official nightlies but always with my same customizations each time.
I will update with info I might have missed in this op and I will answer any questions anyone might have about the customizations I made.
All I am doing on this thread is sharing a custom build that I use for my daily driver. Anyone is welcome to use it. Please remember that I am not the developer for the base rom, so if for any reason you find issues or glitches, more than likely you shouldn't use this build. For some reason, I am able to run it without 1 single issue, hence why I posted it. (I am also playing with Mahdi and trying to put my customizations on it as well. If I get it perfect, I will share it as well)
Future Build Ideas - POSSIBLY!!
This is where I would start to maybe possibly try and build an SJSharksfan AoSP based rom
& here too - SaberMOD ToolChain Info for building customized cherrypick McCopy ROMs
So, I'm not even sure if anyone is even flashing my builds.. But I will continue to upload my customizations as long as I am running carbon.
Enjoy!

Testing Builds
*¥*Please Note that this section is exactly what the title says. TEST builds. There is a strong possibility that these builds will not work. I always recommend staying on the builds listed above in the "Stable" list. I have already removed quite a few of the older builds as well as many of the builds that are known to not work for anyone.. ** I also am thinking about reorganizing this list. Currently, it is not listed by ROM version, but it is listed for the most part from newest version at the top, to the older versions towards the bottom.

It is the sprint visual voicemail. I'm not sure if it works for international devices. I put it in the regular app folder and not system/app so if it does not work for you, it can be removed without issues.

I am getting the links ready right now. I will post screenshots if you want, but there is nothing different visually from the official carbon builds. So it will look like the same shots that are on the carbon thread.
I'll work on some screenies for the boot animation though, if I think of any others that are different, I'll post them too
Update: links and screenshot posted

It should run for all S4 variants since I'm using the unified builds. (That sprint VVM app can be removed if it isn't working for you, I did not set it as a system app)

I like to share my test results sometimes with folks if I think it might help someone at some point. I just ran a decent test with my ROM and a 4.4.3 ROM. Since I am a full fledged flashaholic, I can't help flashing something on the bleeding edge. So I flashed mahdi v2.6, I just flashed on top of carbon. I will need to flash clean on that test so I wanted to make sure I could restore my other backup, so I restored the nandroid that I made before the test. It restored fine, but was acting a little wonky, so I decided to flash my customized build on top of my nandroid, and everything is back to perfectly stable. I honestly think that the 6/3 CarbonROM from the official site is the most stable 4.4.2 ROM out there.
that's all I wanted to share for now.. see ya

Can u look at kernel from slim kat build 5.4 weekly?I got only 1% battery drain in 10 hrs.that is awesome.I want same battery tweaks from ur rom not only me but everyone want a battery friendly rom. 5.4 is the only build with that much battery tweaks I think.and thx for ur work buddy.
one more thing currently m on paranoid sabermod which is not gud in battery life.I have done evrything like wakelocks and some other stuff, then changed kernel to alucard.after alucard I got some juice left at day end but in slimkat 5.4 weekly battery life is awesome.
So the main thing is that I m lost in all roms and flashing and restoring.I want a complete rom with full features and great battery life that is why I m interested in ur work.m sure u can do it.happy developing .

Hi debugger. If that kernel has a flashable zip, I can see if I can bake it into a build for you, but if not, I'm not sure if I can. The only reason I can get kt in this one is cause I extract the files and put them where they go before I recompress. But I will see if I can make it work..

With kt kernel s4 heats more than any kernel..try to cook with alucard or efficient kernel..both r best at battery and moderate use.but kt is for performance.I think efficient will be gud with their recommended settings.
R u doing any battery tweaks in rom itself other than kernel?

Hi debugger, I wish I was able to help with that, but I am not the developer for this rom, I am simply making a few changes and recompressing. Are you seeing those same things if you flash the official carbonrom? Did you try flashing another kernel or reflashing KT? Sometimes I do that if I'm having issues. I haven't seen any with carbonrom though, its very stable for me.
I wish I knew what to do in your case, but I don't really build these ROMs at all, I just tweak them. So my point is, the carbonrom devs don't want to see questions for this build in their thread.. If this version is giving you some glitches, then I would try to flash the official version
++ I will test the quick setting tiles and see if they revert for me
Edit: I just added 6 tiles and rearranged them all, rebooted and they stayed in position. It has to be device related in my opinion. I would try to flash totally clean and try reflashing KT 5/28 over the rom
I do appreciate the post and want to help you dial it in. Hopefully its something easy

Your link is to the Galaxy Note 2. Having said that, very nice rom indeed. Probably worth mentioning whether or not the rom has the SDS and Exynos fixes built in. Thanks.
The big question: does this rom has the SDS (Sudden death Syndrome) fix implemented?
fixed the links.
this has the latest device tree, so it's going to have whatever fixes and issues are current with device trees in other AOSP roms like CM.

Rom has nothind to do with the SDS fix as we currently know. You must install a kernel with the fix and a recovery with the fix.
Is there a nfc fix for this Rom ?

The Rom comes with a Kernel, so it is valid question to ask. On the subject of Kernels, is the included Kernel optimised in anyway or is it simply the Kernel from CM?

yeah the rom comes with a built in kernel. if it doesnt come with it, i wouldnt have asked the question. so let us knw if the fix is implemented in the kernel which this rom has.

Lol absolutely incorrect. In fact linaro has a whole line of boarss they optimize named 'origenboard' that use the EXACT same smdk4412 chip used in ur i9300...meaning if anything the linaro optimizations will be felt to a GREATER extent on an exy phone than say...a qcom one...in theory.

Right... I was considering he whole exynos world, but only exynos 4210 is compatible, meaning that the i9100 is out. tought that since the i9100 is incompatible the i9300 is too.
Is there any way to disable the hardware-buttons (menu, home, back) if I only want to use the softscreen ones?

F.A.Q (Freaking Annoying Questions)
What is the difference between these builds and the official builds?
Short version: It is unofficial nightly builds whereas official one is stable builds.
Long version: It is built using the same source (github) like the official one but with these following additional changes:
Compiled using SaberMod 4.9 & 4.7 toolchain combo.
Contains some cherry-pick commits. See OP and changelog for more details.
Faster? Smoother? Find it yourself.
What is Toolchain?
In software, a toolchain is the set of programming tools that are used to create a product (typically another computer program or system of programs). The tools may be used in a chain, so that the output of each tool becomes the input for the next, but the term is used widely to refer to any set of linked development tools.
A simple software development toolchain consists of a compiler and linker to transform the source code into an executable program, libraries to provide interfaces to the operating system, and a debugger. A complex product such as a video game needs tools for preparing sound effects, music, textures, 3-dimensional models, and animations, and further tools for combining these resources into the finished product.

What is SaberMod?
The term "SaberMod" is coming from:
SaberMod is a AOSP based ROM with some extra features added in and mostly from CyanogenMod. SaberMod started out pure AOSP when android 4.2.1 launched. Originally it was pure AOSP with a few extra features I ported over from CyanogeMod and linaro optimizations. Then I rebased everything off of rasbeanjelly because I liked many features found in rasbean. Since then I've modified a lot of the code so not much of it is rasbeanjelly based anymore. But you will still find some commonly used features found in rasbeanjelly. SaberMod is not a rasbeanjelly or CM clone, or KANG. Custom kernels are included for certain devices when available. These are personal builds we make for ourselves and originally became very popular in the nexus 7 forums. Features are very rarely added, and are built to SaberMod's team members liking. Currently there are two members of SaberMod working on this project. Myself and @jarjar124 . Please understand our time is limited and we are only two people who have lives, and do not have 25-50 members like CyanogenMod to add things. And our goal is not to add a bunch of features that bloat the system of the ROM.

You know there's other AOKP ROMs too. Try infamousAOKP. I'm currently on it.
Sorry I haven't got the time to test this ROM yet.
Edit: Just flashed...overall its pretty awesome. A question, what kernel are you using?

Thanks for your fast reply
I also not like twrp recovery but I don't have laptop to back CWM and beside that, twrp with touch enable are more comportable
I has just flash over twrp and it fine. Roller back some app and permission, review later
Thanks for your Rom, hard working

Your welcome.
You can flash recovery image with mobile odin. I usually flash recovery from pershoot's site with mobile odin.
Just saw on his site there is a new CWM recovery 6.0.3.4.
AOKP-p4-UNOFFICIAL-SaberMod-4.9-20130804.zip
Changes:
* Now compile the rom using -O3 GCC optimization flags. Rom feels smoother and respons better.
* Follow CM to re-enable dalvik performance optimizations.
* Use the ability to hide GC freed lines in logcat -> less logging.
* See the rest in changelog.
Note: The rom size is a little bigger than previous build. It is normal and caused by the -O3 compiler flags.
flashed it and so far it's really good.
Thanks for the good work.
Yup, really great work here. Very smooth indeed.

This is just a SaberMod flavored PA ROM.
JLS (ROM) & JWR kernel.
No feature cherry-picks as of yet. This project took 3 months worth of patching to even compile with a handful of developers working on it.
We will add new features when we can. Pull requests for feature merges can be sent to our GitHub. Or you can make feature requests in the the Dev DB tab.

We are still patching PA source to work with SM 4.9.
We're almost done patching 4.8 as well.
First alphas (these) are SM 4.7, then 4.8 next, and then ultimately 4.9.
Performance is awesome (IMHO)
For SM 4.8 kernel (instead of SM 4.7), i recommed the PA Enhanced kernel by @ayysir

Stock kernel. A few minor patches in source to compile with SM.
ROM has A LOT of patching.
Use JWR kernels if you plan on flashing anything besides stock.

What is NamelessROM?
NamelessROM Gerrit Review
What is NamelessROM ?
Simple - NamelessROM is opportunity.
An opportunity to have a voice to the development team of the after-market firmware that you run on your device.
The main goal of NamelessROM is to provide quality development for android devices, phones and tablets alike.
NamelessROM developers are available nearly 24/7 and respond to bug reports and feature requests almost instantly.
This availability will allow you, the end-user, to have direct input into exactly what features and functions are included on the firmware that YOU run.
NamelessROM maintains features and functions of several well-known open-source, AOSP-based ROMs, as well as many features of our own.
See the screenshots in the 3rd post, and visit our website for more detailed information.
NamelessROM = endless possibilities. Unless you have an iPhone, then you're out of luck.

About the kernel
The current HOMEMADE version uses the kernel provided by twa_priv.
The NIGHTLY builds still use the kernel provided by kasper_h. The V1.09 build is a test if the new kernel shows advantages over Mackay kernel.
This ROM features the Mackay kernel (it is a kernel named ICS_2014, because kasper_h worked on this kernel for stock ICS and CM9 as well).
The zram code has been optimized (based on google advice for low-RAM devices) and is enabled by default.
kasper_h also improved the OC code and changed voltages.

Problems & tips for performance
What does NOT work?
There are graphical glitches.
Although they mainly have been solved there seem to be some remaining issues with hwcomposer that may crash the tab.

Smoothness advice:
Go to performance settings:
Overclock CPU (Do this at your own risk!)
Keep governor on Interactive
Set minimum speed to 400MHz (credits for this tip goto Jaegermeiste)
Go to developer settings:
Activate "Force GPU rendering"
Active "Disble HW-overlays"
Set background process limit to 4 processes
(if performance/developer options are not yet shown, go to settings>about and press build number 7 times)
-> Thanks to all forum members contributing to this list
-> Do it at your own risk!
-> Don't complain about limited battery life (ROW+interactive+1000MHz leads to better battery life for sure)

Some other tips:
For improvement of sound quality, you can use Viper4Android
For more volume only, SpeakerBoost is earier to use
For netflix, head over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49208063&postcount=445
To be able to use Flash player, use a browser that doesn't use the kitkat browser engine (e.g. firefox can be used).
Download flash player from adobe website (thanks to AAccount for finding out!).
If you can't see your internal SD on PC: Go to Settings -> Storage -> 3 dot menu -> tick MTP.
If Google Voice Search crashes: Under the Google now settings select voice options and tick the box next to Bluetooth headset. This will prevent Google now from crashing. (credits to Olivier V)

Disclaimer:
I was compiling several ROMs for Samsung Galaxy devices.
With KitKat coming up I was able to maintain my ROMs for the S4, but was not successful with a ROM for my Galaxy Tab 10.1 (GT-P7500).
Thanks to the incredible support of kasper_h I was able to take over his work and create this KitKat ROM for the tablet!
Unfortunately he discontinued the work on this ROM because he will move on to a more advanced tablet.
I wish him great success with his new tablet and want to thank for his work for the 10.1 tablet!
With kasper_h agreement I take over and will maintain future updates of this ROM.

Welcome back beegee, you cannot believe how much i appreciate it that you take over this amazing ROM from Kasper, for a second i thought that the development for this tab was dead, i like the latest features and was looking for a new tab, or at least... I really appreciate it, thank you

NOTES (IMPORTANT)
[*]- Make sure you have backed up your EFS before flashing the ROM. Link in installation instructions.
[*]- If you are not able to connect to your service network provider and can't make calls etc, try flashing the modem through ODIN. Search the threads in Galaxy Grand forums and you'll find instructions there.
[*] Sorry for the confusion with deltas .. But make sure you are using PHILZ or CWM ... TWRP giving errors with the delta
[*] You need to be on the 7th Feb build to flash the delta update
[*] OTA app removed since the notification is spamming and is slightly unstable
[*] You should be using the gapps in the OP to make delta updates flash ( same drill as CM12)
[*] I have tested the delta update personally on philz on the 07022015 build

Performance is liquid smooth.. Pervious build were very good in battery backup. New build I have downloaded only about 10 hrs now.. Its too early to comment, but overall I feel very good.
There are options u can chose to prioritize ur performance, battery or balance..
