Rooting, flashing custom ROMs & custom kernals. - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm about to root my Xperia Z and then flash a custom ROM probably PAC but I want to be able to overclock. Any ideas how? Also if you have any tips or tricks with rooting or flashing custom Roms. All appreciated thank you

Hi first off, if u want to flash custom rom or kernel, u have to unlock your bootloader.
After that you can install custom recovery and flash the rom/kernel of your choice.
Or u could go the fastest way by
-Unlock your bootloader
-downloading the rom (pac) and the kernel (e.g. meow kernel) to your SD card
-Via pc in cmd command fastboot flash boot boot.I'm
-power off
-Boot in recovery when led is on(volume up)
-Flash pac rom and gapps if u need them, if u want custom kernel, flash meow after that.
Hit thanks if I helped ya
Regards

Thanks, I already know how to do it, I mainly want to be able to overclock with PAC ROM
Sent from my GT-I9305T using XDA Free mobile app

Also which custom.recovery should I use?
Sent from my GT-I9305T using XDA Free mobile app

Flash meow kernel, it supports overclock and undervolt, recovery is included

So your saying PAC doesn't come with its own custom kernal? Can you please provide links to both?

I have a question about kernel. Now i'm running cf root kernel...btw i want to change bootanimation so i have to change kernel too. If i change kernel, do i lose root access? what about applications i have installed? Before flashing new kernel do i have to remove lagfix/ext4 or can i leave it?
Thanks for help

Changing of bootanimation does not require u to change ur kernel.Changing of kernel will not make u lose ur root access.Only changing of roms make u lose ur apps unless u install (no wipe) roms. Before changing kernel u need to disable lagfix before changin kernel to prevent problems appearing

Are you sure is not required? i've seen everywhere that only some kernels supports changing of bootanimation. How can i change bootanim w/o flashing new kernel?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Not all kernels support changing the bootanimation.

Hmm bootanimations just need to be stored somewhere in ur phone bt some kenels read different names not bootanimations.zip.

Try absolute system tools for great interface with previews and massive choice of boot animations
Is that an app available on market?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Anyway the problem is not where/how to place .zip file... The problem is that lot of kernels don't recognize .zip bootanimations, but just .qmg boots.

[Q] Custom kernel

My friend have the p970, and he talk me to install a custom rom for he, but any rom need custom kernel. In my xperia x8, to install a custom kernel, need a uncloked bootloader and a flash process in pc. But i see a video showing a instalation of cm10 on p970, without flashing a new kernel with other program, but the kernel change just with a zip instalation.
How can i install cm10 for p970 without unklocking bootloader? Im cofused.
Sent from my X8 using xda premium
Installing a rom on P970 its a pretty simple.
You just need root and recovery... to install a rom just do a full wipe and then install the .zip, search on general section about how to make root.
Just this? Isnt necessary to unclock bootloader to flash cm10 and flash a kernel with a program?
Sorry for noob question and bad english

Nope, because our bootloader is unlocked. Kernel comes with the flashable .zip file, so no need for additionally flashing anything after

[Q] Couple of boot loader unlocking doubts...

Helloo Everybody..
I will be really grateful if someone found a solution to my problem...
I know that this is not a support site, but a developers world, but after searching and googling, i couldnt help my self.
Mods can close and delete this thread if they want.
My question is that if I flash a Gingerbread kernel(nAa or Alfs) on ECLAIR 2.1...wont it create problems..such as force closing or rebooting sort of problems??
Secondly I read SpydeX thread of unlocking bootloader..i got all the tools ready, but the thread doesnt mentions anything about entering into recovery via kernel on ECLAIR 2.1... the guide just tells that after flashing entr into recovery and flash the rom.
I tried this trick on my friends X8, but no success..
Thanxx in advance
If you flash a custom kernel at the eclair while you have locked bootloader, you will have bootloop(it wont boot, but you can easily fix it),if you have unlocked your bootloader it will be fine
As for your second question, you unlock your bootloader, you flash the kernel(which contain cwm),you enter recovery(cwm),and you flash the rom.

U mean that after i unlock my bootloader and flash the ALFS OR NAA kernel on Eclair 2.1...it will work fine???? And i can use the eclair os normally???

No he's got it wrong.
1. You can't flash custom kernels on a locked rom flashtool won't allow it.
2. Flashing a custom kernel on stock 2.1 will cause it to bootloop, what you'd normally do is enter recovery and flash a rom that works with the kernel.

No,users have reported that custom kernels work with stock rom(I remember very clear a user who used naa kernel with stock rom)
Maybe older versions...
If I'm wrong then I apologize

Hi,
And why is it fun?
Just root> unlock bootloader> flashthe kernel kernel (nAa/Oxydo-JB) if you want to Jelly Blur (CM10) rom what it takes to unlock the kernel
In this way, what you gave it a quick and convenient, and look closely and you can unlock the bootloader here on the forum you will find step-by-step instructions
Also good luck and best regards
Use x8toolbox

I dont understand it right. Iam now back on stock because i bricked the phone.
What i did is root stock, after that i unlocked bootloader, then i installed cwm and then i want to install kernel for jellyblur but everytime i do that my phone bricks. How exactly i have to flash the kernel? After flashing kernel i format system and data like in instruction. I rebooted then phone without flashing jellyblur i think this is the problem. I have to fladh kernel then go in cwm formatting system and data and without exiting flashing jellyblur is this right?

[Help] Install roms to Xperia z

How can i install roms to XZ without pc? And wich rom is the best for my phone?
Sent from my C6602 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
As far as I'm aware you need a PC in order to root, and you need root to install ROMs so no it's not possible.
There is no such thing as a best ROM. This is because we all have different wants and needs as far as ROMs/kernels are involved. Have a look at the development threads and see which ROM suits you best. 'Best ROM' threads usually start arguments, so therefore they're not allowed and are usually deleted by mods

If you are already rooted running 4.3 stock (which you have needed to flash using pc) then you may only flash stock ROMs without the pc. I went from ExistenceZ ROM to Criskelo ROM just by flashing in Nut Recovery. You must check with the rom author tho.
But yes no such thing as best rom man!
