Newly Rooted 4.4.2 - Only boots to recovery - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay guys so I just rooted my att note 3 that was completely up to date using the towelroot.com method found here. Stupidly of me I was trying to follow a thread to change my system language in build.prop but after doing that It ONLY boots to recovery / safestrap. After the safestrap screen I tell it to continue to boot normaly and all i get after that is a black screen.
Any ideas? Is it possible to flash safestrap from odin / heimdall / recovery?
Ive tried factory resetting from safestrap and recovery and that didn't change anything.
I not even sure I have safestrap at this point I can get into recovery, and download mode but it sits at the "Samsung Galaxy NOTE 3 [Unlocked Icon] Custom" screen. It wont actually progress to the safestrap.
Before I tried to edit that build.prop the root / safestrap worked fine all day today, restarted several times for different reasons and still worked afterwards.
I had no encryption enabled.
Via recovery -

Possibly? this as a fix?

Would this be okay to use as a stock Kitkat firmware resource for an Odin flash?

Anyone have a N900AUCUCNC2 ROM or firmware I can flash?

i have the .zip files for it and odin 3
*it sounds to me like a bootloop or a softbrick, I would recommend using this odin 3 and flash the stock kk rom the one i have is the unofficial and is pre-rooted. but it works when i bricked mine repeatedly trying roms.

That'd be awesome if you could get that to me some how. I more or less have everything fixed but the wake-up after entering my pattern lock is ungodly slow so I'd like to possibly try a different one.

[CWM][ROOT] Flash CWM recovery to locked tab with ODIN

***WARNING***
Before you do this, remember that it's your $500+ toy and your responsibility, not mine. I'm just this guy, you know?
Here's a quick way to get Clockworkmod on a locked (and even unlocked) Tab:
-Get this ODIN flashable CWM 4.0.0.4 for GTab 10.1 WiFi. This is only for the WiFi model and will boot to a black screen on any other model. If you have an LTE, you must use the image in this post.
-Follow this procedure, but instead of flashing the file listed there use the one you just downloaded
Congrats, you are now running CWM. If you want to return to stock retail use this image instead.
Image creation procedure detailed in the last three steps here.
Nice thx bro. Some really good stuff from you lately
Pokey,
Once I do this mod and have CWM running will I be able to flash files via CWM?
I have a locked bootloader and am not able to select a zip to flash when I am in the stock recovery.
I guess what I am asking is if I do your mod will I be able to use CWM to flash the root zip so I can root my tab?
Thanks
Super thanks!!
It worked like charm in my locked retail 10.1!!! I've also installed su, busybox etc. Titanium backup works with su!!
Thanks
Yes, Just did it!!

Did you have to flash the exploit zip after or were you rooted after odin installed CWM?
Did you have the debugging mode checked when using odin?

I installed the exploit zip after odin using the CWM. I put it in download mode as described.
Has anybody else used this method on a retail tab with the locked boot loader?
I only see one person posting that it worked for them and am wondering if anybody else has been successful?
Thanks
Is it necessary to flash a new kernel after flashing CWM in order for it to stick? Or does this permanently flash CWM?

This flashes CWM permanently. This gives the same result as the other locked root procedure if you ODIN this file then flash the stock rooter .zip.
ok, i just did it myself and everything worked flawlessly.
Just run Odin, choose the zip from OP in the PDA field, leave everything else as it is.
Put the tab in download mode and flash using odin.
After that download the root exploit and flash the zip using CWM.
Stalls on SetupConnection for me.
does the locked tab allow you to flash a kernel?
will this work on the first galaxy tab sgh-t849
model: gt-p1000?

Yes, only the stock locked recovery prevents you from flashing a kernel, so replacing it with CWM lets you flash whatever.

Maybe this process works for the original Tab, but the image I posted here is for the 10.1 only.
so the ability to flash kernels means if ICS doesnt make it to the 10.1, we can get it through CM or some other ROM? Thats the only thing keeping me from buying the tab, i want to make sure its future proof, software wise.

Samsung could lock down ODIN or start requiring signed kernels and ramdisks by updating the bootloader with an OTA. Even the nvflash unlocked retail and I/O Tabs aren't entirely safe since the security fuses can be blown from software. I can't see a reason why they would ever want to though since they'd piss off a lot of customers.
alright thanks a lot. It seems a bit odd that samsung even locked the bootloader in the first place, given that they dont lock their phones down. I'll probably end up getting one. Thanks for the help.
noob question, but this isn't going to wipe my data is it?
Just flashing CWM will not wipe your data, but if you plan on flashing a ROM, or the TW update then you will be required to wipe

You are going to have to reflash stock firmware yes, theres a thread for it in general, might be a couple pages back. Just for future refrence, safestrap doesnt really work(in a fully conventional way) on lollipop, and you cant install twrp or cwm or philz or anything else.

Using an N910t3 I flashed emotion MM rc25 , confirmed wifi didn't work, tried the data fix it put me in a bootloop, luckily I had made a complete backup in TWRP and restored it already, just want to warn anyone else before they try it.
You should keep A backup of the original the "boot" partition in twrp. In TWRP>Backup>select "boot" only. That keeps the stock kernel.
I haven't tested any alternative kernels personally.
I feel that the stock MM kernel is doing great.
MM works fine. I'm waiting for MM kernel
I had a few problems with Marshmallow but finally installed the latest PG2. My phone N910T boot looped and caused some problems but eventually I finally had a working 6.0.1 stock. I installed TWRP and SuperSU SYSTEMLESS and used the phone for 2 days.
I tried flashing Beastmode and Emotion kernels but neither worked and I was stuck in a boot loop. Eventually I tried to reinstall stock without a wipe as this always works and keeps my apps etc.
The stock said the md5 checksum was invalid even though it was the same file from 2 days earlier. To fix this I removed the file extension, preventing it from doing the MD5 check and attempted to install. It bricked my phone as the process appeared to stop at halfway and I aborted. I found modem and bootloader files for PG2 and took a shot at installing them. I got to another bootloop.
I tried the stock tarfile again and was a little more patient this time. The previous delay was only a few minutes long. It installed succesfully. I Installed TWRP with ODIN, followed by a systemless root in recovery mode.
I'm currently waiting for MM kernels. I hope my little adventure helps somebody else on their journey.

I don't know. I've upgraded bootloader in the past without issues. There seems to be issues surrounding mismatched modems and bootloader recently.

If you flashed a different recovery like TWRP then you'll have to use that again.. Have you rooted the phone before? If so, you probably have to flash stock firmware files one by one in Odin including flashing the recovery.

Since you've rooted the phone I'm gonna say the easiest way to fix this right now is to re-flash TWRP and download a rom that one of the devs on here have created and push it to the phone and use TWRP to flash it.. This is the best way for now since you are going to need a LOT more information and a better understanding of how to fully remove the root access because you cannot run a stock rom while rooted.. After you at least get it going then read around on here and you'll find all the answers and ways to fix things by those of us who've already been in your spot.

I'm trying to flash a custom rom but the most I can get it to do is hang up on the Samsung logo or a black screen, is there any specific roms I should try?

stuck in bootloop, i have no history about what happened before

hi guys, a friend of mine gave e this samsung galaxy tab S2 SM-T715 32GB that is stuck on bootloop, he said nothing about what he has done to it (sadly) all i know is that it's stuck in bootloop and it's impossible to access the recovery... what i've tried so far is this:
- find a TWRP and flash it with odin v3.14, which works but when the tablet reboots it's stuck on bootloop and i can't access the recovery
- find and flash an older version of the TWRP that's for the android 5.1 stock rom, flashed in and worked, though i can't access it after the reboot
- find and flash the latest OFFICIAL rom which works because when i get into the download mode i see "samsung official" on "binary" and not "custom" as it was after the previous tries
if anyone has an idea about what i should do please help me ^^ the tab is still in good condition and would be a waste to throw in the garbage tbh

Try perhaps with Frija in place of samfirm and perhaps with heimdall (under Linux but also windows I think) in place of Odin.

mine is still up >30 hrs so looking promising. I've been working on it for 8 months or more. Thinking back, looking at the flash in "edl mode" guide . . .
[GUIDE] How to dump and write back the storage on most of Qualcomm devices
This is a generic guide that could be suitable for many Qualcomm based devices, once the phone can be triggered to EDL mode. To make sure this guide will work as expect, following requirements are needed: - Know how to trigger the phone to EDL...
forum.xda-developers.com
. . maybe this is how I should have done it, but mine was stable in download mode.
In the end this is what I did ymmv.
flash back to 5.0.2stock with heimdall,
flashing twrp3.1.0-1, format internal partitions,
reflash 5.0.2stock, & twrp3.1.0-1.
edit: after 1 day it is rebooting again. groan.
