yes, wait the release for the developer & they will build it.
But it is still a developer preview

L's only two versions away. I'm sure we'll get a port or a CM rom sooner or later.

If any developer that I know of from Xperia Z, it will definitely be @pabx first to release Android L.
He was the first to bring KitKat over to Z in just a matter of days. In fact, it was not with some unusable build either. A full usable rom for daily driver.

Android L = Awesome Xperia Z !
Yes..!!!:good::good:
I totally agree with Android L being ported to Xperia Z....!!! It's much better than any software till now...
Here are the reasons;
Key Features:
Improved Notifications
Project Volta: Improved Battery Life (Needed for Xperia Z, due to battery drain issue in Kit Kat)
Google Fit...Competition for Apple's Healthkit
Better Web Integration
Runs on ART extension , (support for 64bit systems), (Dalvik is being ditched).
Since RAM usage will be less, and apps usage and loading time will be faster...
So lets wait for CM, PAC, Carbon...or some other developer till then...
Cheers...

Not impressed with it so far.
Auto Rotate toggle? Already on my stock 4.4.2
Adaptive Brightness? Already in all versions of Android.
Those are just two things I picked up on....

I don't expect Sony to update Xperia Z to 5.0 - we will probably hear "you already received 3 updates, that's it folks".
IMO it shouldn't be about how many versions you receive - it should be about a timeframe. If your phone doesn't receive updates after 1,5 years, then maybe you should stop making new phones every 6 months if you can't manage to update them - and look at other companies like HTC, Samsung ( yes... ) or perhaps Apple who offers iOS8 to a 4,5 years old iPhone 4S.
Does my post sound like I'm angry with Sony ? Good, because I am...
KitKat was a disappointment. Been waiting almost a year and received nearly no new features apart from UI redesign which doesn't really matter to me anyway and tons of bugs, battery woes etc. To be honest - every single release had some kind of problems, especially with battery life...

KitKat's battery drain was not Sony's fault however. It was Google and Google Services, as with a previous version I cannot recall. Those kind of things are out of their reach since it varies from phone to phone with its version. I do agree however that there are some "kinks" that need to be remedied. I cannot understand why they refuse to unify most builds so they run similar applications. Like for example the stock KitKat apps (like Messaging and Settings) on my Z are totally different from Z2's stock apps running KitKat

Do it! you think that somebody of us will beg you to stop? or sony CEO will appear and give you android 100?
Just stop complaining kid, if you have enought money for an other phone just to have a better toy to play with, feel free and buy it, we don't care. And in 6 months you will complain again for a new update that roll out, and with a new Brand that won't provide it to you.
I bought xperia Z because I was fine on how it was, it had everything i needed and I liked it. Why you bought it if you have to cry? Or yo mean it was good until something new came out? that is so illogical. stop looking to the neighbour's grass and just be happy whit what you have.

Maybe it is all on purpose. Bugs, bugs and bugs but redesign UI and everybody is happy at the moment they upgrade it's firmware. And than, bitterness strike.
Maybe Sony wanna make XZ more and more buggy so it's users can look forward to Z2 or Z3, because XZ is still very capable of doing practically anything and is still strong and better phone than most 2014 mid-rangers and all Xperia non-Z models.
Yesterday I compared for couple of hours Z2 on 4.4.2 with my XZ 4.4.2. UI Smoothness is basically the same. WiFi/3G surfing the same, talk quality the same. Photo and 1080 video quality has very small improvement on XZ2. OK, sound quality, battery and screen are way better, but for common users like me, transition to XZ2 is freaking waste of money, except for battery duration. I switched in May 2013 form HTC Desire to Xperia Z and that cost me 100 EUR. Now, July 2014, transition form XZ to XZ2 would cost me 250 EUR. For what? Better AnTuTu benchmark score

Then you should get the g3 ? I think the g3 is a better upgrade than the z2 . Different ui , higher res , bigger screen but smaller size than the z2 . Getting a z2 or z1 for upgrade is like getting a slightly bigger screen size with more power .

... how was that a complaint? I am simply stating I am selling it if they announce the exclusion in their update roadmap. How you come up with all these impressions of me being a whiner is beyond me. I do have money to buy any phone really but I don't mind keeping the Z a little longer.

Who is your provider? I'm either getting the optimus g or xperia tl depending on dev support and battery life for the two.

Depends on what you desire in a phone. LTE, Durability, Design, Support, Custom rom support, Screen resolution/PPI, Battery life etc. etc.
I come from a history of HTC phone and I always liked them because they feel more durable. Also, the dev support is very high on HTC and Samsung. When you go for power, you should definitely look at Samsung S3, HTC One X(+) or the new LG Optimus G. Also, if you're interested in getting the latest Android updates, you should keep an eye on the Google (LG) Nexus 4.
I must say that I took a risk in choosing for Sony. The dev support is relatively low and I didn't like their Q1 2012 models Xperia S, U and P. This because I heard negative stories about the battery life, the outdated hardware, the lack of proper support etc. Yet, I must say that I never had a smartphone that operates this smooth, and the battery life is better than HTC's Q4 2011 phones. I own my phone for a couple of days now and I like it more and more.
When I was in Indonesia this summer, the Acro S caught my eye and I have been looking out for the release of the European brother of that phone: the Sony Xperia V. The specs are promising, I like Sony Timescape (more than for example HTC Sense or Samsung Touchwiz) and it promises to be a solid phone (it should be dust and water resistant).
To summarize it all. Keep a lookout on comparization websites, such as phonearena. You can easily compare up to three phones there.
If you really don't know what to pick, I can only recommend to stick with the Nexus releases. You are interested in Android for some reason
Check out my phone list in signature, I can't wait to get myself this xperia t

Dev support for samsung (at least on the aosp/cm front) will drop, samsungs ****ing around with sources, broken code and producing a mess in general is driving devs away. HTC is obviously locking bootloaders in its more recent models and is enforcing less dev-friendly techniques, so dev support will remain strong but it wont beas much fun to "work" with as htc used to be. LG produces **** hardware, I heard. And their custom android implementation isnt that shiny either, I heard (lol, I hear a lot, obviously ). Leaves Sony, which is overall well, behaving goog from a dev perspective and the hardware is ok, good even, albeit not highest top tier. In terms of updates theres rom for improvement. So as the ultimate last, a Nexus device. Latest android, always. Excellent dev support. But limited storage and no expansion possibilities. Make your choice.

If you want a more neutral ICS experience with some great Sony add ons (Walkman, etc.) and like the idea of 13MP photos go for the Xperia T.
If you want top spec and more grunt the S3 is a bit more powerful but you get TouchWiz and Samsung's stamp on it all. Also, the S3 has a much richer selection of custom ROMs.
Personally, lack of SD slot would put me off the OneX before I even opened the box.

I agreed with almost everything you said but this. I am no expert, but I think the major problem isn't hardware... it's their support / drivers/ software. I owned a G2x, and hardware wise it was a treat. However, it was hampered by the lack of source (which has been rectified in the last week or so I believe) code and the NVIDIA drivers for it. Their latest incarnation, the G, is very nice on paper, but alas, it will likely suffer the same fate, which is why the Nexus 4 looks so tempting. Hell, Google trusts their hardware, they just wanted to make a phone everyone would want AND possibly afford. Unlocked no less!
I have sent my T back for repairs, I had some audio stuff go south. That said, I really like that Sony offers the option to unlock bootloaders. I like the feel of the phone and the speed. HTC burned a bridge with me and my Amaze (also just released source code for their WIFI / BT drivers IIRC), so I went Sony, and am not sorry that I did.
EDIT: Oh yea, and the Sony take on ICS is really quite nice. Not bloated, most of the apps I actually WANT to use, and it's well designed IMHO.
Thx everyone =)

No regrets, You have done a good choice, I have TX too, I'm happy with: elegant design, removable battery (very important), SD card slot, good benchmarks, even better compared with phones with quad core processor, a very good 13 Mp camera, easy to unlock, Sony developpers friendly.
Bad: few custom roms, slow process updating, Hope more from developpers.
Previous phones: a lot of Nokia flagships (finished with), and in the last 2 years:Xperia X10, Xperia S and now a beautiful Xperia TX, all unlocked and rooted.
Now got the t, little disappointed with the development level for the phone but the phone it self is ok, not great but ok I guess

Sony Xperia T And Xperia TX Gets New Firmware This April

There is nothing quite like having decent hardware run on the latest version of software, where the latter would be useful in squeezing out every possible ounce of performance from the former. Well, having said that, we bring you word that there is new firmware (9.1.A.1.138) which has been certified for the Sony Xperia T (also known as the LT30p) and the Xperia TX (aka LT29i). Sony Mobile claims that this update for both devices is set to arrive from April onwards, although I am quite sure that the pegged April 1st date is not an attempt to pull a fast one on consumers.
This new firmware will also see the introduction of Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean to the Sony Xperia TX, as owners of this particular smartphone model were said to have been waiting for far too long for some Jelly Bean goodness. Apart from that, it is said that the update will bring along with it a fix for the problem that users have suffered from when running the Walkman app on Jelly Bean firmware. All’s well that ends well, no?
I don't agree. With Android 5 just three months away, we still have no date and no news about JB 4.2...

Google hasn't even released details of Android 5.0, how do you expect the manufacturers to comment on something that hasn't completed development.
There's going to be so much hate from the other TX users, especially some "I TOLD YOU SO!" replies.
Sigh***...I just hope this will fix the OTHER Walkman bug, where music stops playing completely while browsing on the internet

We would never officially get 5.0. Period. And 4.2.2 IS a big update as there are many things that aren't available in 4.1 and considering Sony, they need to fix the Walkman bug and sound quality and sound level. 5.0 is too far away. There won't be a 5.0 device around until the end of the year (I presume).

Actually, they should still be the same problems that my TX is having. Maybe I'll give that a shot, load some songs, and run it. If it still doesn't work, I'll just continue using my Walkman Z :good:
Well after I thoughts about the awesomeness of the Sony company I something to say:
Jelly Bean was released almost TWO MONTHS AGO. For two months we, The Users, have to deal with many issues connected with crappy (yes, it's crappy) Jelly Bean released for T. Many problems experienced by many users are piling up on Q&A. This is pathetic. Walkman bug is not even fixed for now and will be fixed on week 14. Two months of waiting for the bug to be fixed. Xperia Z got its "Sudden Death" problem fixed in a couple of days and besides it already got a couple of updates since the release. Our phones - Xperia T, TX, TL and V are not even 6 months old and it looks like Sony downed the support to a minimum. I feel like I was kicked in the butt by them and their support is like "Look, people... we will release a couple of fixes but then just shut the hell up and buy our new phones! Yay!"
Take a look at Samsung. They claimed that many of their phones will receive 4.2 and then the support for better Android versions will stop. SGSII - two-years-old phone will be updated to 4.2.2! This is something amazing.
Eh. I've never thought Sony would piss me off so much. I thought it will never happen. But I see that the more Xperias come, the less they're supported. We don't even know if our T's and V's will be ever updated to 4.2. I guess Sony will just say "These phones don't have enough RAM" just like they said about 2011 phones and theirs 4.1. Hey, Sony! Xperia J has also 512 RAM and it's enough for the Jelly Bean to be released but for another 512MB's is not?! (Remember that all of 2011's have even more powerful CPUs than the J's)
Pa-the-tic.
Anyways I'm still happy of my T but the support is really screwed up...

Agree with you entirely! This why I kept saying Official KeyLimePie is a dream. They just keep releasing new devices until they overwhelm the market and the current owners feel like their devices are old. Flagship or not, this is what happens. Some people got really pissed off with me too in the other thread
Samsung doesn't support developers like Sony does, but at least they are generous enough to upgrade the firmware.

mhh okay we have the walkman bug (I don't but others have), I can't find many other issues (nothing), I had a s3 and they released many updates for jb in a row but not because they are more userfriendly, it was because each new version had to fix some new bugs and they were much more annoying.
also jb on the s3 is more laggy than on xperia t, believe me. you can always say "why do contacts not instantly open on my t" but with an s3 you can be happy when they are open under 5 seconds and this on a Quadcore phone ...
who knows if we get 4.2 officially, even if not the port will be faster and more bug free than the official 4.2 from Samsung, I'm sure. but you are right, we have to get official 4.2 because we have bought an expensive flagship device.

who knows if we get 4.2 officially, even if not the port will be faster and more bug free than the official 4.2 from Samsung, I'm sure. but you are right, we have to get official 4.2 because we have bought an expensive flagship device.

Unless you got the Korean variant, you must be having the 1GB Ram variant of the GS3. JB is laggy on GS3 because of TouchWiz. Use a custom ROM and its all good. Touchwiz is such a Ram hogger.
And we definitely would get 4.2! Otherwise it's just ridiculous.. I'll burn Sony down! Its the next increment im afraid of. Also remember GS3 has many more inbuilt features than our T (software wise) such as multiwindow, so it tends to be slower. I'm not saying its better though. We got smallapps

Android 4.3 or 4.4

Does anybody know which major firmware update we will be receiving next and when?
Sony seems to be awfully quiet lately regarding their update schedule.
With 4.4 on the horizon it's unfortunate the Z1 shipped with 4.2 instead of 4.3 but it wouldn't be so bad if Sony at least gave us a rough estimate.

They will probably update it to 4.3, and after it to 4.4
Sent from my C6903 using xda app-developers app
I remember reading somewhere that they are saying 4.3 would roll out in October. But I am not sure where and how accurate is this
Knowing Sony smartphones for years, i'd say there will be a really late 4,3 update as promished, and after that the phone will not get any more updates...
Also look at my answer later in this topic

there is a major update on the way as reported on xperiablog - the last 4 digits are changing which usually indicates something more than a bug fix but not likely 4.3

I'm not to sure about this update... This 1 rumour came up and nothing has been seen about it ever since.. I personally would take it with a pinch of salt for now!
The question is IF there will be a major update from Sony for the Z1 after 4.3...
And the answer is "most definitely not!"
Don´t get me wrong, i love all my sony phones, but the updates is allways missing.
Sony has released new phones many times before with an older android installed at shipping date, and then made the promished "major update" after that, to the newest current version a month or two later... This way Sony is fulfilling Goggles demands about at least two major versions, without actually giving the customer anything new at all...
Nothing new in that, just look at Sony history...
IF Sony on the other hand SHOULD decide to release 4.4 down the road, it will definitely be without keyfeatures like sony camera features and so on...
Look at the history...
Just go back and read it, start eg. with the Xperia X10...
WHEN you buy a Sony phone, you have to understand that the promished firmware is ALL you will ever get, and that Sony WILL abandon all updates faster than you can count to 10...
(So only small bug-fixing can be expected after 4.3 for the Z1)
At first it looks like Sony is working hard to put out a working current Andriod version for the phone, but they are not... absolutly not !
Just sit for 2 sec. and think about this:
WHY would Sony at all ship a brand new phone, with an older Android version installed at shipping date ?
Would Sony not have to do just as mutch work to put out the older 4.2.2, as they have to if they decided to put out 4.3 from the shipping date ?
The ONLY difference is that IF they shipped with 4.3 then they had to update to 4.4 also to fullfill Googles demands, but with 4.2.2 as shipping firmware, and a fast update to 4.3, they don´t...
This Sony-scam is ONLY to fullfil Googles demands, nothing else...

All these issues are fixed with custom roms yes? Official releases don't matter anymore then?
Also, will they atleast release a big update for the camera, other bugs and unlocked bootloader issue?

I'm not to bothered about this to be honest, maybe they can change but we have a Snapdragon 800 and Qualcomm actually release their sources (cough Samsung cough) so Cyanogenmod performance will be like awesomeness, I have my concerns regarding the camera's future with Sony being to stuck up to release the sources.

Ok then, i did read the question as if it was a question for official firmware, not custum roms...
- and my answer was becource of that, minded on the official SONY firmwares...
Custom firmwares is a whole other matter, and mutch harder to guess anything about yet...
- THAT only depend on how many people who buy this phone, and who of the devs here at XDA will work with it...
You need attention from a fantastic dev to get unofficial firmware flying...
BTW:
the history shows that Sony have NOT been fantastic releasing sorces before, so don´t count on it, but keep your fingers crossed...

I have allways used OTA for all that can be done that way...
The phone say to you when it is a big update, and you need PCcompanion (or in the old days SEUS).

[Q] Android L on Z1, possible in theory?

logically, I think Z1 is possible to port the Android L on it, as Nexus 5 also get the Snapdragon 800, so the driver should basically the same
then, we can try to port it to Android L?
Sorry, if you think I am a noob to ask such question
it is just a random question

It could be ported but not on locked bootloader.
For unlocked bootloader you just need a good developer and that shouldn't be a problem.

Well....using that, released version won't be possible.
There must be some serious modifications and changes to boot that.
New kernel and drivers and many things...
It'll never be Android 5, it'll be modified 4.4.4 or whatever will be the latest build...

I, absolutely, do not.
Z1 will get 5.0 that's for sure...
Not only 5.0, I pretty sure we'll see few more versions (5.x.x) after that.
Z1 isn't XS and it has a lot "support time" in front of it...
I know I won't sell it
Sony started to release updates quicker than ever before and I'm very satisfied with them now...
Z2 should get 4.4.4 as well but Sony finally admit heating problem (camera related heating, sometimes even overheating with camera FC) so they are fixing that and Z2 will get 4.4.4 as well..
But...even Sony is faster now with updates and we saw Google finished (or almost finished) Android v5.0 I really doubt it'll be on our devices before autumn...
Sony must work on UI and change it, or change some things in/on it so thet will need a time...
My guess would be:
October - releasing Z3 powered by L
End of November - upgrading Z1/Z2 and maybe even Z (even I doubt that) to L
If rumors are correct and snapdragon 801 will be heart of Z3 they will need new OS to sell it
Same screen, same RAM, same chipset.... They need something new

you wont sell it, and you also have Z2
I guess Z1 is the Lab Rat of Android 4.4.4 for Z2, if heating problem got totally solved in Z1, then Z2 will release 4.4.4 very soon
for the L, I guess will be 2 months after IFA Z3 release,
I checked online Z3 is using S801 AC,but screen have some changes, and I guess if we are lucky enough that Sony would give out their trump card which is curved camera sensor. I hope we will really see killer of Lumia 1020 or 808

I realized that it's better to leave it.
I can't get "good money" for it so I decided to keep it.
My wife is using it and she loves it...
She was always saying it's ridiculous to wear brick in a pocket but when she took Z1 just for one afternoon I couldn't take it back from here anymore
It wasn't cheap to keep both devices but Z1 is just 9 month old device and I don't want to sell it for 300$...
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
I believe all three phones will be getting the newest android update, the Z1 and compact are no slouches and a hardware limitation can't be called as the 800 is literally an underclocked 801 afaik and with android attempting to get lighter and lighter, save some feature which needs to have a hardware counterpart, i can see no reason why the z1 and so forth shouldn't get the update and even the one after that, not sure what that'll be called (MiniRoll maybe )
There's life in the old dog yet.
Could see a port getting done, but it'll more than likely never have everything functional, so you'll be trading off a lot of the stability and features you now have on stock / modded Z1 firmwares, the camera for example would be an issue, interesting to see it in action but I'd more than likely revert back to stock to gain full functionality again.
Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Google taking control over updates

I read somewhere that starting with Android L Google is taking control over the system updates using the play store. I don't remember exactly where I read this but I would like to confirm this information with you guys.
Is that right? Does it mean that after android 5 the fragmentation will end? Or I just misunderstood the info?
I wonder if this being implemented maybe the core of the system would be on a separate partition and the OEM mods on another... Maybe?
Thank you.
Maybe for pure androud, but not for oem skins. Touchwiz, HTC Sense, etc.

So, in the end I understood wrong cause I thought that this would apply for every oem. ?
Sad, just sad. I'm interested on note 4 but Sammy doesn't give love to updates.
Agree they only update it once,
I suspect that the Note 4 will get the bump to Android L since the release is relatively soon. Hopefully they are working in conjunction with the carriers so that they don't have to wait until Sammy completes their image before beginning their testing. THAT's what takes so long!
Beyond the base of Samsung L, who knows?

Hope you're right.
I would expect update to Android L in the end of January for Note 4 - judging by how Note 10.1 was updated in the past.
I agree since the Note 3 is still sitting on 4.4.2. They need to keep up and allow the phone to stay fresh.
If you want upgrades, buy a Nexus or a Moto X.
Don't buy a Samsung/HTC and them complain about upgrades. You know what you are buying, Note is not a device which is meant for fast upgrades. It's should be quiet obvious to anyone.
If upgrades are your primary concern, get a Nexus.
Rumor has it the Note 4 and S5 will get Android L "late November or in early December" and that "Samsung may be working towards having updates ready sooner than usual."

For those looking for a good camera and stock experience, do you think I'll be in good hands with a Xperia Z3. AFAIK sony is usually developer friendly and maybe we get a official CM release. Well, just speaking my mind... I dont know how stable Z2 is ATM.

actually i don't really know , sony has really some good sensors but they always ruin it with ****ty software , and yeah sony is dev friendly
but i guess Note 4 will have better image quality specially in low light and with video quality because it got OIS z3 doesn't
and Z3 has the same optics and sensor as Z2 as fas as i know so probs it will have the same image quality
