[Q] Should i go for OTA 10.5.A.0.230? - Sony Xperia ZR

India got This OTA ,
1) should i go for it?
2) will i loose root ( towel root) , ( earlier i lost root when my device upgraded from 4.2.2 to 4.1.3, and have to wait too long for east root (thanks to towel root))
3) & do 4.4.2 really worth ?

1.- Why not? it's good
2.- I updated to 10.5.A.0.230 and then used towelroot and I have root, so yeah it's working.
3.- I can't really tell; got my phone less than a week ago so I didn't tried any of the older FW/Android versions. The first thing I did was update to the latest FW
I would say go for it and update it. It's working perfect for me and Inmersive Mode is amazing!

Yes, but since I made a clean install/wipe everything, I lost root. However, on kitkat I just downloaded towelroot and now I have root.

Can i do ota update on rooted .101 firmware. Has any one done it.

I don't know about the latest update but I've previously done OTA updates before and kept root (I've got a Xperia T not V).

I also had no OTA available so used PC Companion to go from 9.1.A.1.140 to .141 on my Xperia T. I don't know the differences between XT .141 and XV .145 but was able to regain root using Bin4ry's Root Many Android method
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460, it might work for you.

if you perform OTA update (via PHONE), you won't loose anything, actually USUALLY you don't loose anything, and of course, using root keeper...
that's totally obvious when you use PC Companion, you will loose root..
And for regaining root access, use DoomLord EasyRootKit, which is now available in Android Development Section, it actually covers ALL devices, including V
wish you luck
ok. ive try update it via OTA, while keep the root access using voodoo rootkeeper, but no success. the main problem here is ive installed CWM. i for got about this "Keep in mind that at the moment installing CWM will broke OTA updates, even if you unroot and/or remove CWM." so there is no chance to update it via OTA anymore right?:victory:

CHANCES are always CHANCES, so you have to try them
otherwise we wouldn't call them "Chance"
but, in theory, with aforementioned conditions, it's hard to believe that you will be able to update via OTA...

[Q] What's the best way to update to 4.4.4 WITHOUT losing root with root apps intact?

Hey all!
I'm eager to upgrade my Sony Xperia Z1 to the latest and obviously greatest Android 4.4.4, but I've recently installed so many apps, both root and non-root that I do not want to do this over again. I finally got Timeshift Video working (took me longer than it should have, I'll admit) and I just don't want to go through the process again. So the question is: is there a way to update while keeping all data from apps intact, and will all root apps from 4.4.2 even work on 4.4.4 still?
Thanks in advance!

In order to keep your apps just do not select data before flashing. Now for the root I rooted my phone with a very strange way. I flashed the .108 ftf and then with adb i flashed the doomkernel(v21) to my phone. Then I booted up my phone and enter one of the recoveries (TWRP) select reboot and before rebooting it will give you the option to install super user. After this i powered off my phone (in recoveries reboot options) and connected my phone in flash mode to my computer. With flashtool i went to flash the .108 ftf BUT I didnt wipe anything and i excluded everything exept the kernel. When this finished I booted up my phone and it was rooted.
I just say what i did do not blame me for anything as if you follow my way you do it with your responsibility.(press thanks button if i helped  )

ReRoot possible. On 4.4.4, installed update, lost root.

I meant reroot possible? It was a question. Accidentally out a period on the end.
Newbie mistakenly installed update and lost root.
I was already on 4.4.4 rooted. Received an update notification from AT&T. I pressed on update. Everything came back up but lost root. I'm I able to root without going back to 4.4.2?
Thanks in advance.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the only way to root 4.4.4 is to go back to 4.4.2 and then follow the 4.4.4 root upgrade guide posted in I believe the general section it's actually pretty easy but does make it harder to use safestrap if you use that very often.
It's easy but unfortunately to resetup my phone is very time consuming.
I spent a lot of time removing apps, adding apps and configuring.

Thanks. That's the procedure I used to get my phone rooted to 4.4.4. Like I mention, I was already rooted with 4.4.4 and installed a OTA update which unrooted my phone. At the moment, it sounds like I have to lose all the work I've done on my phone and start over unless I'm missing something.

[Q] Sony Tab Z2 sgp511 - Problems updating binary

Got a demo-used Sony Tab Z2 sgp511 a couple of days ago.
It had stock 4.4.2 ROM on it. Was going to update but the battery was to low so i rooted it first. Everything works great.
Charged the Tab, upgraded to the latest stock 4.4.4 ROM, and i still got root, so no problem so far.
Now my binary need to update, but this fails, and i have no TWRP or CWM.
Any good ideas about what could be the problem??
See if this script will do the update:

My bad. The tab is not so rooted as I thought..
Apps gets root (super su shows a toast saying that root is given), but the root don't work.
This is probably why the binary update don't work..
Aarrgghhh...
Any idea how to root the 4.4.4 (.167)??

I don't -- I'm on a 4.3 Note 3.

All versions after release of 4.4 has binary changed so hard to reply on one specific method to get root.
Download Root Master su, root master or iroot.
Select root
Reboot.
You can see kinguser app installed.

Root on 5.1.1?

I got this phone today and it did an OTA update. I'm now on 5.1.1. Is it possible to root this phone? I'm don't think Kingroot will work and not sure I want to use it anyway.

If you root you won't be able to install updates anymore
You can root with Droid tool or King root 4.0
If you know how to, do a 100% backup with SP Flash tool
Before you try anything.
Thanks. I read on the Kingroot thread that its not working on 5.1.1. I'm a superuser kinda guy anyway, and not sure I want to use Kingroot. I'll google Droid tool to see how it works.

I can confirm kingroot works.
infinix hot 2 5.1.1
I have the same problem with the same device and king root keeps failing any idea what I'm doing wrong? I've tried the OTA and pc versions.
The update with the November security patch can't be rooted for now. I have tried all rooting softwares I know of (apks & PC) and none worked. perhaps a little more patience?
if you wish to root,
flash twrp
flash superuser zip
I'm presently rooted on 11-03 build
