[Q] Phone wont turn on after hanging while watching a video - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there. I really hope someone can shed some light into this big problem I'm having.
I'm running CM11 with TWRP as my custom recovery.
Earlier today, I was streaming a video with flash. Then the video hanged but the kept playing. Nothing happened when I pressed the back button, menu or power. So I pressed and held the power button until the phone turned off. Then it wouldn't turn on again. I thought that the phone just locked and got stuck so I removed the battery. But it still wouldn't turn on. I can't even go to recovery or download mode. I tried plugging it in to a charger just to see if by some miraculous reason the battery completely drained, but still nothing. So that's what happened. It was working perfectly fine until it hanged.
I hope someone can tell me what happened to my phone...
Thanks,
Harold
update: I tried plugging my phone into a my laptop and I keep hearing the usb connect/eject sound. It seems like the phone is trying to turn on but can't. I removed it, removed/reconnected the battery, tried to go to download mode, but nothing happened, then I connected it again to my laptop but I can't hear the usb sounds anymore. So I removed/reconnected the battery again then plugged it in my laptop, and the sounds are there again.
I don't know what this means. I really hope someone can help me...

My tip would be to remove the battery for 15 minutes, then try to put it back and turn on.

Already tried it.

I don't think it's the battery, it would at least turn the screen on for a while.
Try to put the battery in, and connect to charger (don't turn on).
I guess there is nothing else to do here, send it to RMA. :crying:

I can't get into any mode. And as I've mentioned above, when I plug it in my computer, it makes the usb sound, like I'm continuously plugging and unplugging it.
Odin is not recognizing it, even Kies.

SGS *Completely* dead

Hello.
I'll get straight to the facts.
I had my phone rooted with Odinv3 using "busybox" (is all i can see on my downloads).
I then went to update to Gingerbread today, but didn't realise I had to un-root the phone!
So this made the phone keep refreshing the samsung galaxy S screen.
I then went to reboot to stock using this thread. Said it passed etc.
Now my phone is completely dead. It won't turn on. Nothing at all when i get it into download mode. No lights turn on. Odin *does* recognise it when I plug it in, the yellow box lights up.
The computer makes a noise to recognise that somethings been plugged in.
But alas nothing on the phone. I've left the battery out and tried it in but nothing.
What can I do please?! I am stuck here. And fear i just have wasted a great sum of money...
Will I be able to take it back on warranty? I haven't had it long, 3 months or so. Would they recognise it has been rooted despite it being put back to stock software.
Thanks. Daniel
You are a bit unclear, can you get download mode with 3 button combo?
Sent from my GT-I9000
tried many times to remove and replace the battery worked for me
sorry for the google translation
I managed to get into download mode by doing a 3 button combo earlier, can't remember what it was but I had to hold three buttons *THEN* fit my battery. THen it went into download mode. I can't remember which combo it was though as i've tried loads before and they didn't work!
It won't do anything now though.
Could i have booted it with a wrong ROM and that's why it won't load?
How come Odin picks it up and it goes through that passing etc?
THis si so annoying.
Volume down/power/home hold til galaxy s logo then release a yellow logo should appear

Sorry for opening an old thread. But i have aproximately the same problem with one exception:
Odin won't regognize my phone.
I was just in the process of installing this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136449
It got to the first step: "DO NOT POWER OFF DEVICE!!".. and then nothing. Sat there for 15 minutes untill i unplugged it.
shut down the phone using the power button, but now.. its completely dead.
This was offcourse before I realized i had just tried to install a ROM for SGS.. not SGSII.
So.
Odin doesnt recognize the phone.
The phone won't turn on, no matter what I do.
Nothing happens when I try to charge the phone.
I've tried pulling the battery several times, but its just .. dead.
However, when I plug in the battery, the phone seems to get hot. Not very hot, but just slightly above 25 degrees (aprox).
I'm afraid i've f*cked up big time, and have to send it in for a repair..
Anyone have a tip of what I can do ?
(Yes, the battery is charged - not empty).
Have you tried going into download mode again? does the screen power up at all?
My advice is try to leave the battery out for 15-30 minutes, then try getting into Download mode again, with the USB cable already plugged in and ODIN running on your machine.
See if ODIN can detect it and work from there... May be better than nothing. Hope this helps.

Did you know how to flashing the rom (via CWM) ? You have to notice your battery percentage first.
What exactly were you flashing? CF-root? where did you get it from?
I had the battery out through the night and tried again this morning.. didnt work..
It SEEMS to be completely dead.. (with exception from that the cpu gets hot when battery is plugged in.. )
I tried flashing this:
http://www.multiupload.com/6QNW8P7DTY
I came as far as "Setting PIT file.." "DO NOT TURN OFF" in odin, and then everything stopped.
The battery was at 70% when i started the process.
The phone have only been on for about 20 minutes since.

Hard Brick?

Today my D3 rebooted unexpectedly. After the reboot, the phone didn't turn on, and I connected to energy to make sure that it wasn't a battery problem. When I connected it, it tried to boot, and I left it, but when I came back, the phone was fully dead. Doesn't turn on. The battery is OK, I put it on a Motorola Bravo, and it showed 60% charge. I have a Factory Programming Cable, and I connected it to the phone, but neither this way the phone did turn on.
I don't know what to do, it seems that is a hardware problem . When I put the battery, the phone heats a lot
Any ideas?

Wish I could be the one answering but I'm writing to chime in that the exact same thing happened to me today. Same thing re my battery. The only thing I'd add is that it did have trouble booting up for no reason 2 or 3 days ago, but I took out the battery, waited maybe 20 minutes, and she rebooted okay. I called Verizon, and wouldn't you know that I'm 3 days out of warranty. They wouldn't budge to let me get a replacement under warranty.

With the phone powered off, slide the keyboard open. Hold down "X" while powering on to access the boot menu. I can't recall what holding down the "M" key while powering on does, though...

Seems to be permanently bricked. Gone back to my old Imagio running Windows Mobile 6.5. Good phone, but slow for today's standards, outside of HTC Sense not finger-friendly and, of course, I don't have access to apps. Going to wait out my Vzw contract and then very likely get a SmartTalk account using an unlocked GSM phone.
The x/m refers to an alternative hard reset method. Hold down both of those keys along with the power button.

Is My Ace Bricked? SOLVED

So I have a S5830D, and it's been working fine for the past while. It's rooted and I have this ROM on it. It was working fine, and I haven't removed any apps or installed anything for a while, but I noticed that when I tried charging it, my phone wouldn't respond to the charger(it wouldn't show as charging). Using a new outlet, and trying to charge it from my computer via USB didn't work either, so I tried turning it off, but now I can't turn it back on. I get no response at all. No Samsung logo or anything. Is my phone bricked, or is there something wrong with the hardware?
Would this work for a 5830D, or is there something else I can try to unbrick it, if it is bricked?
EDIT:I can put it into emergency download mode, and RAM DUMP ARM9?
EDIT2: Managed to turn it back on, it seems like the battery drained, and I wasn't able to charge it through my stock charger. Had to connect it to my PC for a few minutes. However, now I can only charge through my PC, and not through the normal wall outlet charger. Any clues as to how to fix this?

Dropped my One from a very small height - died completely

Hello,
I dropped my HTC One to a hard floor today, from height of less than 50cm (20").
The screen was on before the fall, battery was >90%, everything was working. After the fall, the screen was off, led off, nothing happening from any buttons.
I have tried long-pressing powerbutton, powerbutton+volume, no effect.
I have tried charging, no effect. Even the charging led doesnt work.
I also tried powering it on under bright light (?), no effect.
I had my bootloader unlocked, CWM recovery and Android Revolution HD rom installed (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183023)
The phone had Nillkin protective case (http://mobilemate.yetaa.com/htcdopod/nillkin-htc-one-m7-hard-protective-case.html). I can see no physical damage on the phone, not even a smallest scratch..
Any ideas, what can I try to get it working, before sending it for repair? (Let's hope it goes for warranty. I really don't think it should die for such a small impact..) All ideas welcome!
*EDIT* My phone was working for a second, but broke again. In repair now.

Hey! I just put it in a charger again, and after a minute I suddenly noticed that the charging led light up! I tried pressing the power button, and it booted to bootloader!
I then went to fastboot -> Reboot, to get it to boot normally..
There was a sudden flash of the HTC logo (boot logo). Lasted less than half a second, then it died again.
Now it seems completely dead again..

I'm having exact same problems except I did not even drop my phone, the screen and phone went dead as I was using it. I've been charging it for hours, no response from any lights or anything. I have tried pushing the buttons to force a reset to no avail. When I plug it into my computer it does not recognize it or even acknowledge that it's there.
Hey, my phone works again!
For the millionth time, I tried to start up my phone. No reaction.
Then I connected it to the charger, and the charging light came up.
I then pressed the power button... And it started! Now it works 100% normally, I have shut it down and rebooted and shaked and tilted and knocked it and removed charger and everything, it just keeps working 100% normally! And the battery was at 99% when I got it started.
I don't think the initial cause could be something (battery?) connected loosely, as it just started working all of sudden, and I cannot easily reproduce the error!?
Well, I'm glad it works now. And I'm glad I chose HTC One over GS4.. Self-repairing cellphones in 2013... What next?

Xperia Z Dead??

Hi.
So I deleted gmail apk and put inverted gmail apk in system apps. Powered off the phone. Tried to power it back on, nothing happens.
Battery was almost full, about 95%. If I hold power button (tried for like 30secs) nothing happens. No LED, no vibrate, screen is black non-stop.
I also tried power& VOL-, power& VOL+, power & both volume... Nothing.
If I plug it into USB cable from PC, nothing. If I plug in the mains charger, nothing.
Tried holding VOL- (and later VOL+) and plug in USB cable from PC to get into download mode, nothing. Flashtool doesn't see the device.
What the HELL just happened? And what can I do?

JUST DOWNLOAD THE UPDATE SERVICE FROM SONY , CHOOSE YOUR DEVICE AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTION AND MAYBE IT WILL GET YOUR PHONE WORK .
UPDATE SERVICE LINK
http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/update-service/
Tried Sony Update Service, also PC Companion and flashtool.. The phone appears to be completely dead, like the battery is empty or not even connected. I don't think it's possible that the battery is empty since it had 95% of power when I switched the phone off..
Now that I think about it, it might be possible, that I turned the phone off, didn't wait for it to vibrate and immediately tried to turn it back on.. Does this somehow put the phone in "hard off mode" or something? I mean I'm just guessing here, because I really have no idea what to do :crying:

if your computer does not recognize your phone or vice versa your phone is hard brick (reinstall sony driver just to be sure), no other way to revive it unless you can get into recovery.
I had the same problem this morning. Itwas on charge overnight from the GPO and this morning, Nothing.
I tried two things. One was the update as suggested here (which is happening as I speak) and the other was to hold the button and the lower volume switch. I was doing these concurrently, with it plugged into my laptop and something worked. THANKFULLY.
I only got the phone about three weeks ago and this is the second time something like this has happened. First time it was totally dead and I had it swapped one for one. Worst part was I had spent some time updating my phone list etc which was subsequently lost (making me think I was working on my phone memory not the sim....)
I've just updated my NFC firmware, whatever that is, and it has gone into sleep mode. But at least it's working.
My longwinded explanation preceeds a short question.
Is this a common occurence with the Xperia Z?
My wife has exactly the same model only exception being hers is white, mine black. She has had no probs. Knew I shoulda gone the white one.

you have to wait at least 30 sec until you switch it on .leave the phone on the charger atleast for 3 hours try to uninstall and reinstall sony drivers . and then try to flash a stock rom using a flash tool
OK, the phone has been charging overnight (no led indication, charger was cold, so was the phone, so I doubt it's even been charging) about 10 hours. Reinstalled drivers, PC Companion, Update service and flashtool.
I tried these 4 options with 3 different variables (for 12 total combinations) 30 seconds each.
1) No cables connected
2) Mains charger connected
3) USB cable from PC connected:
hold [PWR] 30 secs
hold [PWR] + [VOL-] 30 secs
hold [PWR] + [VOL+] 30 secs
hold [PWR] + [VOL-] + [VOL+] 30 secs
After that, I also tried connecting the phone to USB cable to PC, each time with only 1 open program. First with flastool, then PC Companion, then Update Service with 3 different variables (for a total of 9 combinations). 30 seconds each:
without pressing/holding any buttons
hold [VOL+] while connecting
hold [VOL-] while connecting
Also tried a different USB port and cable, but it's 100% not the PC/drivers/USB cable.
No matter what I tried, nothing happened. Screen on the phone is dead all the time, LED light is dead, no vibrations, no sounds, nothing. Also when trying the PC connected options, no sounds, indications of drivers installing/failing, no activity in my computer, NOTHING on PC.
Are there any more options to try? Or must I send the phone in for repair?
And once again, does anyone know if turning off the phone and NOT waiting for it to vibrate and immediatelly trying to turn it back ON, somehow causes this "dead phone"?
No more ideas? Am I the first one to have this issue?

I'm afraid to send it because I rooted the phone and my country service centres are known to deny warranty repairs for pretty much any reason they can find.. Sometimes they even make up something.. That's why I was hoping I could somehow fix it.. But yeah, seems there is no way I can do it, so I will have to send it in. Will report what happened.
To be fair, if it wont show on computer or boot up, short of them fixing it then checking, there is no way for them to see it has been rooted?
Xperia Z
That should be correct, but thats exactly what im afraid of. Lets say the battery died for instance. They replace it boot up the phone see its rooted and send me a bill. I hope this wont happen, we shall see..

Pff, you think technicians are gonna bother opening superuser app to check for root?
I sure hope they wont. Phone has been picked up by delivery service today, that means it will arrive in repair centre by friday, and that means they will start looking at it next week maybe wednesday. Then before they figure out whats wrong, order parts and all, about 2-3 weeks and I can report what was wrong.
Got the phone back today. No idea what they did, no detailed description only "reset of program module SL4". Anyways, phone is working, I didn't have to pay anything, so all is good!
