[Q] Controlling Music From Watch - How? - Samsung Gear Live

I can't seem to figure out how to control music playing on my phone from my watch (using Google Music phone app). Is something supposed to pop up when I play music on my phone? I don't see an "app" on the watch that controls this. Note that I'm using a Note 3.
What am I missing?

You get card of current song and if u swipe to left u can advance and swipe to right one more time to stop I believe.

Actually I figured this out. You have to start the playback on the phone first. Then you get a notification that let's you pause / play, Swipe to the left and you next and once more to the left you get previous, but that is the extent of the stock music control. This worked with EVERY music player I have, not just Google stock Music player.
You can also control volume if you get the Wear Volume app - it appears as an additional notification card under the main music notification. And here is also something that is WAY cool - if you download musiXmatch app, you can scroll down and choose to display scrolling LYRICS to the current song!! I can't get BOTH volume AND lyrics to work at the same time however. Note the Volume works with any music app you choose in it's settings. However, musiXmatch only works with Google Play Music player.

There are also some voice controls to start playback. Such as OK Google, play me some music (that will start an "I'm feeling lucky" shuffle). OK Google, Play Some *artist name* . there are some others, but I use those two often.
Not sure if it matters, but this is on an HTC One M7, stock 4.4.2 Sense 6, Google Play Music.

I've just finished developing my Wear Music Controller app to solve this problem for me:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.barkside.music
You can play/pause/next/prev/stop/vol-up/vol-down from your watch! Works with all music apps. Let me know what you think!

[Q] How to stop mic button from starting media player?

I did several searches, but was unable to find an answer to this. I hope one of you can enlighten me
I recently installed the "Listen" app to listen to podcasts. When i plug in the stock headphones that come with the Captivate and then click the mic button on it, it will bring up & control the media player playback instead of Listen. Is there a way to configure the behavior of this button? Is there a way to keep it from bringing up the Media Player app and instead control the Listen app?
Thanks!
I've been having the same issue. I installed winamp, but I get the same thing.
I installed doubleTwist, and it looks like it properly takes over button so that the stock music player app is no longer launched. Does this mean Listen is not doing it right?

[Q] car mode and google music controls

Does anyone know if its possible to add google music to the HTC car mode app?
You can click the + and add the ICON but the controls do not work in car mode. They are stuck to just HTC music app.
Back on the htc one x you could go into music app and select google music so it would work in car mode but doesnt seem to be the case now.
Not sure if its just not possible at this point.
Thanks
Guess im the only one this bothers haha
The way Android music players work is whichever app was started last AND a song was started in that player it is now in control of the buttons..
so for example you can add the Google Play Music app to the car dock then go into it and play a song from that point on the dock's main screen it will still have control of the play and pause next and back buttons.
It will not be updated on the dock screen showing what the song is because that is part of the HTC music app but if you are on a car stereo via bluetooth for example, the song titles information are still played from the Google Music Player to the stereo..

Is there a way to prevent music from pausing during navigation?

I was surprised that rather than attenuating music playback the One pauses music when Waze or Google Navy is announcing an upcoming turn.

Not sure on that one, it might be app specific. For instance, last time I was listening to Pandora and navigating, the phone simply turned down the volume on the music while the navigator was talking. In the HTC Music app, it muted the music but it kept playing(annoying, since I was listening to an audio book...) and in Google Play Music, it would pause it.
unremarked is correct. I use PowerAmp and theres an option to pause the music or play the notification along with the music and thats what i use. I prefer the way iOS handles it though. The music goes lower while the notification sound plays. But i haven't found a way to make it work that way.

So this morning I got into the car and continued to stream music to my device via Google Music. I needed to make an unplanned detour so I fired up Waze to calculate a quick route avoiding traffic. Much to my delight the music I was streaming attenuated when Waze spoke, just like it used to do on my iPhone. I was so jazzed and my kids were probably wondering why. So at the next light I switched to the HTC player and no dice. Same behavior as before, muting/pausing music whenever Waze spoke directions. Finally I decided to try Pandora (which I haven't been able to stream to my car in the week I've had the One) and not only did Pandora play through the car speakers, it too attenuated when Waze spoke. I haven't tried this with Google Nav.
So what's changed since yesterday? Well I booted into Safe Mode (per HTC rep's suggestion) to troubleshoot a bluetooth volume issue and that didn't do anything other than remove some of my folders on one of my home panels. That bluetooth volume issue is a separate issue and it was not resolved through Safe Booting the device. Also, it appears there was an update to Google Music so that may have resolved the music pausing issue. Either way, I'm not sure what I did or what happened to the device to fix this behavior but I'm very happy to experience this expected behavior between music (except for the HTC native player) and nav.

[Q] Is there a way to control music player from the watch ?

Hi all,
I have not been able to find any way to control the Google Music or any other application from the watch. I was expecting not being able only to launch the music application from it, but also to control the volume or to switch the song.
I have found in Google Play Store applications like this (trial and then allow you to purchase the license):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.barkside.music
If there is no native way to do this, i really cannot understand as i see this one of the most logical applications to use from the watch.
Cheers.
You can play, pause, skip forward and back tracks with the Google Play Music app and Android Wear directly.
When playing music it should automatically display on the watch.
If not, check and make sure you haven't muted the app.
Music Boss works for most players.

I haven't muted the application. The strange thing is that just in the moment i hit the play button from the phone (Sony Xperia Z3 with Android KitKat 4.4.4) the notification for the music appears, but hides immediately. Maybe its an issue from my phone.
Thank you very much for the quick answer .

Thank you, i will try to continue searching the reason why the Google Music default notification disappears immediately, but if not, i may try Music Boss.

I'm trying to determine the benefit of Music Boss. I have used it with the 3 main audio apps I tend to use, all of which notify to my watch (TuneIn Pro, Sirius, and Google Play Music). They are set up in Music Boss as well. So when any of them are playing, I have two different cards - one for the app itself and one for Music Boss. I can't seem to see how Music Boss gives offers anything beyond the separate apps, other than a common interface. Can anyone with more experience using this app tell me what i'm missing? Thanks!
same here, I found that android wear supports quite a few music apps out-of-the-box.
like vanilla music - they havent released a wear-related update afaik, but when I play music with the app it shows up as a card on my phone with play-pause and I can swipe into a next-previous-vol up-vol down screen
Sony Walkman, Google Music and Spotify works on my watch. No need for Music Boss or anything. Phone is Z2.
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Free mobile app
I finally found the problem. Sony Xperia has a free application called SmartKey:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonymobile.extras.liveware.extension.smartkey
With this application it is possible to assign extra functions to the button to answer calls in the headphones.
Anyway, this application was interfering with the SmartWatch option to show the controls in the watch graphic interface. Removing it or disabling it solves the problem.
Thank you very much for the help .

Streaming Audio Files in Background (while doing other tasks with the Note 5) ???

When I stream an audio file on my Note 5, it plays in the Google Play Music app that came with the phone. If I click off of the app as it plays the file, the audio stops playing altogether and the app basically closes. I have to restart the stream and then find the point that it stopped to resume. So, I cannot do anything on the phone with the audio playing the background it seems. I believe this happens if I play a video via the stock video player app as well. Is there a way where I can play such files in the background while I surf the 'net or do other tasks on my phone? Is there an app that might accomplish this on Android??? TIA.
why dont u play in the default music player that came with note5 (not google play)
recently the updated it

How do I do this? When I click on any audio file on the Note 5, it only gives me the option of playing it (streaming it) with the Google Play Music app or downloading it. If I download it, I can still only open it and play it with the Google Play Music app. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Great! I did that and it does now give me the option of playing via Google Play Music app or the stock music player. However, I still cannot do anything else on the phone without the audio file pausing and/or stopping the playing of the audio file. For example, I just downloaded a podcast file onto my phone, opened it and told it to play it with the stock music player app. It will sit there and play the entire hour-long podcast just fine. But, if I need to go check a text message I received or look at something on the Internet, the stock music player stops playing the audio file (pauses playback of it) until I finish checking the text message or complete the Internet task and go back to the stock music player and click on the "play" button. I would prefer that it keeps playing the audio file when I minimize it to go check text messages or e-mails or do something on the Internet. Or is there maybe a 3rd party app that will do this??? Thanks for your help!

It appears that you use "my files" to play your music..you have been using the pop up music player and thus it will stop when you exit. Try to play music via the music app, search your music in the app itself and not from your downloaded files. Once you are in the stock music app,go to tracks and all your downloaded music will appear

Don't ask me why I didn't think of trying this before, but I didn't. I just opened the stock music player and went to tracks (just ask you described), the podcast files were there. I clicked on the one I was listening to last night and proceeded to check my text messages and e-mail and the audio kept playing in the background. Thanks for mentioning this! Really appreciate it! :good: :good: :good:
