Streaming Audio Files in Background (while doing other tasks with the Note 5) ??? - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I stream an audio file on my Note 5, it plays in the Google Play Music app that came with the phone. If I click off of the app as it plays the file, the audio stops playing altogether and the app basically closes. I have to restart the stream and then find the point that it stopped to resume. So, I cannot do anything on the phone with the audio playing the background it seems. I believe this happens if I play a video via the stock video player app as well. Is there a way where I can play such files in the background while I surf the 'net or do other tasks on my phone? Is there an app that might accomplish this on Android??? TIA.

How do I do this? When I click on any audio file on the Note 5, it only gives me the option of playing it (streaming it) with the Google Play Music app or downloading it. If I download it, I can still only open it and play it with the Google Play Music app. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Go to Settings > Application manager > More > More > Reset Apps preference > check ok. Now you can choose to play files over gplay music, stock music player ot 3rh party apps

Great! I did that and it does now give me the option of playing via Google Play Music app or the stock music player. However, I still cannot do anything else on the phone without the audio file pausing and/or stopping the playing of the audio file. For example, I just downloaded a podcast file onto my phone, opened it and told it to play it with the stock music player app. It will sit there and play the entire hour-long podcast just fine. But, if I need to go check a text message I received or look at something on the Internet, the stock music player stops playing the audio file (pauses playback of it) until I finish checking the text message or complete the Internet task and go back to the stock music player and click on the "play" button. I would prefer that it keeps playing the audio file when I minimize it to go check text messages or e-mails or do something on the Internet. Or is there maybe a 3rd party app that will do this??? Thanks for your help!

It appears that you use "my files" to play your music..you have been using the pop up music player and thus it will stop when you exit. Try to play music via the music app, search your music in the app itself and not from your downloaded files. Once you are in the stock music app,go to tracks and all your downloaded music will appear

Don't ask me why I didn't think of trying this before, but I didn't. I just opened the stock music player and went to tracks (just ask you described), the podcast files were there. I clicked on the one I was listening to last night and proceeded to check my text messages and e-mail and the audio kept playing in the background. Thanks for mentioning this! Really appreciate it! :good: :good: :good:

what music players will play in background?

on criskelo v 5.1. Stock and Winamp won't play in background

All music players will continue to play in the background. If it doesn't do it on your device, there's something wrong with the ROM.
agree
Don't use file manager to select songs, go directly to the music player and select songs from there, if you use the file manager as soon as you try to minimize it the player will quit.

That hit the spot! I had downloaded a podcast. I guess when you select a downloaded item from the notication bar, it uses a file manager and hence won't play in background.
Hey there
try using jet audio

[Q] music player does not find new music

I have a completely stock HTC One 801S and I have been trying to copy my music into it. I copied MP3's into the 'Music' folder and it shows when I check with Windows explorer, it also shows up when I use File Manager from the Play Store but the Media player in the phone (the one with the little Headset Icon does not see anything new. The preloaded music shows up and plays but not what I added.
If I use the File Manager from the Play Store and select the music, it plays fine. I also installed Android Music but the same problem, anything I copy into the phone does not show up in any music player in the phone. Restart the phone many times but no luck.
Does anybody have solutions or ideas how to solve this?
Thanks,
JB
Quick update: if I send the files over Bluetooth they show up in the Bluetooth folder in the music player and they play OK in the stock music player. This is a work around because I cannot organize them in folders.
Anybody can help me?
thanks,
JB

Listening to music without conversion?

Hey guys
I was wondering if it is possible to listen to music that is downloaded directly from your phone and isn't just transfered from your PC?
It seems like if I download any music from my phone browser I can't listen to that music later as it says 'unable to play this type of audio file'.mp3).
Any programs to open it or android converters?
thanks in advance
Seems strange.
I've downloaded an album from the phone and i can listen it.
And, if the file is mp3, phone will play it.

[Q] Controlling Music From Watch - How?

I can't seem to figure out how to control music playing on my phone from my watch (using Google Music phone app). Is something supposed to pop up when I play music on my phone? I don't see an "app" on the watch that controls this. Note that I'm using a Note 3.
What am I missing?

You get card of current song and if u swipe to left u can advance and swipe to right one more time to stop I believe.

Actually I figured this out. You have to start the playback on the phone first. Then you get a notification that let's you pause / play, Swipe to the left and you next and once more to the left you get previous, but that is the extent of the stock music control. This worked with EVERY music player I have, not just Google stock Music player.
You can also control volume if you get the Wear Volume app - it appears as an additional notification card under the main music notification. And here is also something that is WAY cool - if you download musiXmatch app, you can scroll down and choose to display scrolling LYRICS to the current song!! I can't get BOTH volume AND lyrics to work at the same time however. Note the Volume works with any music app you choose in it's settings. However, musiXmatch only works with Google Play Music player.
There are also some voice controls to start playback. Such as OK Google, play me some music (that will start an "I'm feeling lucky" shuffle). OK Google, Play Some *artist name* . there are some others, but I use those two often.
Not sure if it matters, but this is on an HTC One M7, stock 4.4.2 Sense 6, Google Play Music.
I've just finished developing my Wear Music Controller app to solve this problem for me:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.barkside.music
You can play/pause/next/prev/stop/vol-up/vol-down from your watch! Works with all music apps. Let me know what you think!

I have no way of testing anything like this but what came to mind while reading your post was this:
Uninstall Spotify
Disable Google Play Music
Reboot
Download Spotify apk from apkmirror.com
Copy name of Spotify apk without ".apk"
In /system/app/ (same location as Play Music) create folder with the name you copied
Copy Spotify apk into that new folder
Change folder permissions to 0755
Change apk permissions to 0644
Reboot

Why would sideloading spotify help in this situation? It wont.
@leekene, are you running a stock rom or custom? Also try going to settings>apps and goto google play music and push the "clear defaults" button and see if that helps.
cheers guys i tried that before with the clear defaults. i think the issue is google play is the default music player, where spotify is just an App on a phone that allows streaming. so when the car requests music it will request the music player which is understandable but in my mind there must be something i can do to boot spotify instead.

/system/app/ instead of /data/app/.
Get an NFC tag and write it so when you get in your car, just tap the tag and have the bluetooth connect to the car and then open Spotify.
This is how I have it set up in my car (08 GTI) with Pandora.
Or, use Tasker and build a profile that will do it by voice commands via Autovoice.
I use an app by Sony called smart connect, it will auto open/play any app or tracks based on Bluetooth device connection or aux connection. Ex. I turn on my work Truck, it will connect to the Bluetooth stereo open Google music and play the last track. Plug in headphones and it will open Netflix for me (only reason I would use headphones personally). It also allows time triggers as well.

disable play music, use poweramp. bluetooth settings in poweramp has an option to auto play music upon bluetooth connection
