in flashtool goto Tools/Bundles/Create then select that folder and complete blank textboxes (double click on Device field and select disired device)
in the left listbox select both files (kernel.sin , loader.sin) and move them to the right side then click on Create button to make .ftf kernel in firmware folder which placed in installation directory of flashtool

Thanks for sharing my guide here.
The easier way to create a kernel only FTF is just to open a complete FTF in your archiving software (I use WinRAR) and delete everything except kernel.sin, loader.sin and the META-INF directory. That's it. It takes seconds.

If you updated via OTA, then root is usually kept in that case.

Lots of reasons:
If OTA isn't released yet.
To recover from a brick.
If you've modified /system then OTA will fail.
If your bootloader is unlocked then you cannot update by official methods.
Etc.

flashing this
Hi guys,
It may be another thread I know, but prior I wanna flash this, I am unable to make a proper backup either with CWM (skips backing up android installed apps so the backup is useless) or with TWRP. (it is just not starting the backup to ext_SD)
Can anyone help? those threads are kinda dead

someone pls upload C5502 .230 ftf file

Thanks

I did an OTA update (about 130 mb). after long usage, my battery died and phone powered off.
When I tried to charge it, the phone was bootlooping. It happened for 1 hour and the phone was damn hot.
Luckily, I woke up took the phone out of charger -- otherwise i would have seen a "Xperia ZR Barbecue" the next morning.
The phone did not even get connected in flash mode or fastboot mode because of 0% battery.
I managed to charge the battery a bit and, thank god it got connected in fastboot mode.
I unlocked bootloader and flashed mokee 4.4.4 kernel. Then offline charging worked.
When it was charged enough, I relocked bootloader and flashed .101 JB stock rom, and did a fresh update through PC Companion.
Now, offline charging is fine. For a while I thought I had my phone bricked.
But thank god, I was able to recover it.
So the advice to everyone who did an OTA update is to check offline charging is working fine, before your battery dies.

please anyone upload Xperia ZR_10.5.A.0.230_kernel_only.ftf for 5502 variant

XZDualRecovery 2.5 RELEASE or newer.
Current FW version: 10.3.1.A.0.244, maybe others too, let me know!
Special features:
Superuser integrated in system, FULL root, no reboots when remounting /system RW!
XZDualRecovery 2.7.10 BETA (CWM 6.0.3.7 PhilZ Touch Recovery & TWRP 2.6.3.0) pre-installed;
Tailored FTF to minimize the chance of accidental system wiping!
No need to clear caches!
For both locked and unlocked bootloaders!
@shem2409 created a nice youtube video guide to assist you in your work, be sure to check this post for it! Thanks m8!
The C6602 ROM is based on the FTF provided by @macallen in this thread. Thanks dude
The C6603 ROM is based on the FTF provided by @NetSkill in this thread. Thanks dude
In the following guide I suggest you use an external SDCard but that's just good practice, you can use your internal storage or even an USB OTG storage device in TWRP if you like to install, that's no problem!... If you are modding and the likes, best is to have an external sdcard, just for safeties sake.
C6602: How to update to 10.3.1.A.2.67:
For C6602: Download C6602.flashable.67.zip (Bittorrent: 696MB) and C6602_10.3.1.A.2.67_Stripped.ftf (15MB), save it somewhere you remember;
Put 'C6602.flashable.67.zip' on (the external) SDcard1;
Put 'C6602_10.3.1.A.2.67_Stripped.ftf' inside the Flashtool/firmwares folder;
Create a backup of your phone in CWM or TWRP and don't forget to backup the contents of 'SDCard0';
Flash 'C6602.flashable.67.zip' in recovery, do not reboot but go back to the main menu, then go to reboot->power off;
Flash everything in 'C6602_10.3.1.A.2.67_Stripped.ftf';
Reboot to system without clearing (dalvik-/)cache.
C6603 & C6606: How to update to 10.3.1.A.2.67:
For C6603 & C6606: Download C6603.flashable.67.zip (Bittorrent: 749MB) and C6603_10.3.1.A.2.67_Stripped.ftf (15MB), save it somewhere you remember;
Put 'C6603.flashable.67.zip' on (the external) SDcard1;
Put 'C6603_10.3.1.A.2.67_Stripped.ftf' inside the Flashtool/firmwares folder;
Create a backup of your phone in CWM or TWRP and don't forget to backup the contents of 'SDCard0';
Flash 'C6603.flashable.67.zip' in recovery, do not reboot but go back to the main menu, then go to reboot->power off;
Flash everything in 'C6603_10.3.1.A.2.67_Stripped.ftf';
Reboot to system without clearing (dalvik-/)cache.
The first boot will be considerably slower and after a long wait at the boot animation you will see Android optimizing the apps on your phone.
C6603 USERS WHO INSTALLED THE C6602 ROM ONLY:
Although much is the same, it's best to follow the guide as described above, just to be sure your phone gets set back to being what it really was: a C6603
NOTE: You will eventually/inevitably get the triangle screen again after doing this update (typically after you shut down your phone to reboot it without an actual reboot command), you will have to sit this one out it seems, it keeps coming back until it's done...
DO NOT INTERRUPT IT, LET IT RUN AND DO IT'S THING! you have been warned!
NEW: DE-ODEX your ROM!
Download deodex.67.zip (Bittorrent: 393MB), save it somewhere you remember;
Put 'deodex.67.zip' on (the external) SDcard1;
Create a backup of your phone in CWM or TWRP and don't forget to backup the contents of 'SDCard0';
Flash 'deodex.67.zip' in recovery, do not reboot but go back to the main menu;
Clear dalvik-cache ONLY;
Reboot to system.
The first boot after following this guide will take considerably longer again and after a long wait at the boot animation you will see Android optimizing the apps on your phone.
I have done this myself, using this method and I have not found any problem yet, again! :fingers-crossed:
Enjoy! :laugh:
Known XZDualRecovery Issues:
Busybox Updater/Installer: If you have XZDualRecovery installed, un-install any Busybox updating app/tool as most if not all of them will install a version of busybox which does not support the lzma compression applets XZDualRecovery depends on. The version installed together with XZDualRecovery is very stable and I have yet to hear anyone complain about it's stability.
How to report errors:
Please, before shouting out "It doesn't work!!1!" or "I lost root!" or even "My phone reboots when remounting /system RW!!" try the following:
Restore a /system ONLY using any means you are familiar with so you can try again.
Root it using [Z][ROOT] DooMLoRD Easy Rooting Toolkit.
Install XZDualRecovery and then try to update again using TWRP. This time you can skip the FTF as it has already done it's job.
If it still fails something from there on: LOGS!!.
NOTE: The important ones can be found in /cache/recovery and in /tmp/XZDualRecovery, pack them up and send them to me.
Thank you
Thanks Mate -cheers-
works like a charm rooted with Dual Recovery
cheers dude ^^

They ARE for the C6602 and no, there isn't any C6603 version yet. That's why i instruct you to keep the 244 baseband, to keep LTE.
I have a C6603 as well (see sig), and the image from the OP is made with that. You see it identify itself as a C6602, but yet, i still have LTE

This is the untouched Sony FTF so if you flash with this, it will give you latest build by wiping your phone so root is lost. I created the zip file and stripped FTF for this firmware but didn't upload it. Let me know if you want it, Ill try uploading again... last time dev host was being a bit** about it.

No, on 4.3 it doesn't work like that.
1 - You need to flash back to 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 firmware with flashtool, 1 that will let you root your tablet with a 1 click root method from DoomLord.
2 - Install Recovery once rooted
3 - Upload the zip file to your SDCard and flash the zip from CWM or TWRP
4 - Power Off WITHOUT rebooting
5 - Flash with Flashtool the the stripped FTF
Boot and you will be rooted on the latest firmware.
Its the same way as in this thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588442 )except you will be using the latest files/firmware.
I'll upload the files later for whoever wants them ... getting off work in a few hours.

Previously had root and kept root after update.
Just follow these steps:
1) copy zip to SDcard
2) go into recovery and install zip (without wiping anything)
3) turn off phone
4) flash kernel via flashtool

My intention it´s to downgrade from 4.4.4 to 4.3

[Q] Creating FTF from the PCC

Hi. I wanna ask regarding this creating FTF from the PCC for stock rom.
I have download the update 266 with the PCC,
then i use flashtool to decrypt those file that save in DB folder.
But when i choose them after decrypt to make the FTF,
if i include the loader.sin , my flashtool wont able to run or stop at "streaming C:\flashtool\loader sin"
wont move at all.
But if i didnt select the loader.sin, then with others,
it will able to finish and create the FTF (and torrent).
But was this correct without the loader.sin? As the file now is around 800mb.
My flash tool is ver 9.14 not the latest 9.15.
So, am i doing it the correct way?
Did you follow this guide when making your FTF?

That's an odd error. I have uploaded it to Google Drive, and the last I checked, it downloads as expected. I won't be able to check it in the next 2days. Please try using IDM.

Go to flash tool and select this FTF file. Uncheck all marks except "KERNEL" so basically out of this big FTF file you are just flashing KERNEL!
I downloaded it but cant install
hey how to install it from phone or pc?
and how to root sony xperia i cant bootloder,flashmod,fastboot, im tottaly noob plz temm me how to do? and i presses volmue down + power nothing happen it just goes on as normally. tried all method cant hard reset mode. plzz replay fast.
phone is sony xperia c5502 and firmware is 283 last 3 word.
@gaggi786
Various guides are around here check them out!
If you are on 283 then downgrade to previous version.
Now here is the trick. Install towelroot and root. Now go to Superuser and click on Survival mode and reupdate phone through WiFi and check. Root may persists.
There is more advance method to flash Kernel but given your experience, you may destroy your phone.
Take a TA backup of your device(advice)

There are guides on how to root, why to root, advantages, disadvantages - read up on those. Unless u need root and know what u r doing, u might brick ur device, which is why a noob shouldn't try it. If u r looking for a tutorial, this isn't it.

Click on the lambda (Λ).
Again, this isn't a tutorial. Read up on how to flash or use flashtool etc. first elsewhere.
