Thanks - what is the support for HD voice or VoLTE?

It's not clear which model Motorola will ship as the 'Pure Edition', but either way they are locking it down and limiting it to lte 2/4/17, which is not the full spectrum of at&t, t-mobile bands and it lacks international bands. There are two possible radio configurations http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/help/pure-edition-fcc-id-t2884649

I'm a holding a T-mobile PURE version, It's XT1095.

HD Voice = On T-Mo branded devices, it says HD when in a call. If you call someone else on T-Mo with a modern device, you should have a noticeably clearer conversation. HD voice is phenomenal. Voices are richer, etc.
VoLTE = Only will know if in an area with that coverage. If you get on a voice call and still have LTE, you are on VoLTE. Can Google your location to see if it is there. You could also check phone settings, see if there is an option for it.

Would the fact I use Google Voice effect his?
I have a call for work later today I'll pay attention to if it keeps LTE or not. Where in settings would It be? I see nothing.
Just called my house, it goes to just 4G(HSPA+).

Google Voice is interesting question. It is only further complicated by the new hangouts dialer which definitely woudlnt be HD. On my S5, I go to phone -> settings -> call -> VoLTE

Well, T-mo owns the Band 12 frequencies in the majority of the county I live in. It isn't active yet, but if I am buying a 2-year device, it had better support Band 12.

Seems like the XT1092 is the Sprint version that had all the Sprint & T-mobile LTE bands in preparation for a T-mobile/Sprint merger. Whether and where it shows up in the wild is anybody's guess.

Does anyone know if T-Mo is currently using band 12 in MN?

Enabling HD Voice on TMobile

According to the specs, this phone supports the wideband AMR codec (HD Voice) for calls
But the T-Mobile website and reps list the phone as non HD voice enabled.
I made a call, to my s3, and indeed it didn't seem like it was working. ( the quality was less full).
Is there a way we could enable it phone side?
EDIT: Played a 7khz test tone, no hd voice.

If Verizon doesn't get this for some reason, you'll most likely never be able to.
Verizon phones used to be able to do this, but with changes going on in the networks and different radios now days it is not yet possible on any modern smartphone that I know of until Verizon re-activates the ability.
Hopefully temporary because voice and data work great on my N4.

verizon has volte enabled in a very few markets. if his volte is enabled, then he can get voice and data over wifi at the same time. volte = voice over lte.

Right but only if he's using wifi (which you can do even without VoLTE). Even in VoLTE markets you can't get voice and data over the air at the same time until they give you the all mighty Advance Calling 1.0 update.
Has anyone added the feature through the Verizon website to see if it works at all? I now have the option of adding Advanced Calling 1.0 to my line with the Nexus 6 but all the other phones say not compatible (Moto X 2013 and iPhone 4)

Yeah I was surprised to see the option for "Advanced Calling" show up, considering the phone shows up as "NON-VZW" device. I tried adding the feature on Verizon's website but it doesn't do anything. You'd have to enable VoLTE on the phone as well, which AFAICT the N6 does not support yet.
I enabled Advanced Calling for my wife's iPhone 6 on Verizon and it worked as advertised -- you can do simultaneous voice and data even when not on wifi. I also had to enable the setting on her iPhone to get it to work (changed some LTE setting from "Data only" to "Voice and Data"). Note the iPhone 6 is listed on Verizon's site as a supported device:
http://www.verizonwireless.com/landingpages/advanced-calling-devices/
Presumably Verizon will add Nexus 6 to the list after they start selling the device. The big question is will Moto and Google purchased devices work as well, or only those purchased from Verizon?

Ok...well I have a N3 waiting on my N6 and GPS is critical for my driving and travel. Many times I am on phone leaving airport and using my Note 3 to navigate while I talk.
If N6 can't do this I am dead! Google maps need data but if I get a call then I am in trouble.

Actually you should be fine you will need you will need to start your navigation before you take the call but once you start the navigation if you stay to the prescribed route google maps does not need more data try it out start a navigation and turn off mobile data it should work just fine is long as you stay on the route that it tells you it won't be able to redirect.

VoLTE is the same as Avanced Calling 1.0... All markets have Advanced Calling.. Its the software upgrade on the device that is behind.. After the software is available it will allow the feature to be added.. VoLTE will be able to support both voice and data..
Moto X, Turbo and N6 are experiencing the same on the VZ Network
Had this feature on my Verizon G3 and I do miss it. Not a deal breaker by any means for me but still very cool option to have

Verizon Advanced Calling 1.0 for Nexus 6

I have yet to switch my Verizon LTE Nano SIM to my Nexus 6 but I was wondering if Advanced Calling 1.0 is functioning, particularly the HD calling feature. Pretty hard to go back ever since having it with my iPhone 6 Plus.

Greetings from the Bay Area. I stuck my Verizon SIM in my T-Mobile Nexus 6 and I couldn't figure out how to tell if HD Voice was working (since it was too early to call my wife), though when I made a call it switched to 1x in the notification bar. That's a bad sign. I'll do some more testing today and report back. I was especially curious about this as I too I find HD Voice to be awesome on my iPhone 6.

if its anything like tmobiles hd calling, which works on the n6 btw, both phones have to have it before it works. if only one of the 2 phones in the conversation has it, it wont work.
VZW user here. I can confirm that all of the advanced features are not working at this time. In fact the phone is not even capable of simultaneous voice and data.
This is true of several new phones on Verizon including the Droid Turbo, which of course is the carrier locked 5.2 inch version of the Nexus 6. In all likelyhood the Nexus 6 will not see VoLTE or simultaneous voice and data unless Verizon finds it in their hearts to get an update to us N6 users that will turn those things on for us.
I knew all this going in but i hold out hope that Verizon will carry the phone, which would mean an update will eventually hit.
However, should they not carry it I will be ok with the phone as is.

the phone is very capable of phone service and data at the same time. and the phone is compatible to volte. on all other providers besides verizon, it can get voice and data at the same time(verizon is cdma and doesnt support it). that said, verizons volte is just starting to make it out. when you get volte in your area, you will be able to make calls and get data at the same time.

odd, ive talked to a few using their lte lines to connect calls over volte.
Until Verizon issues an update for the Nexus 6, the feature won't work, period.
I'm assuming Google will push out an update that enables it if you are using a verizon SIM, but who knows.
Just wait. If it's a feature you need, you'll have to wait until Verizon officially supports the device.

Verizon phones have had data and voice at the same time in the past, but some newer android phones (Nexus 6, Moto X 2014, G3) don't have it, yet. VoLTE is a bit different, but also limited to certain devices.

It it software based e.g. is there an .apk on the droid turbo that allows for it to work? or is it on the core android [system] level that needs to be baked in at the time of building the rom? Obviously where I am going with this is if it's something installed, on the droid turbo for example, can we just lift off those files off and work to get it work in AOSP land?
No there isn't. The Turbo doesn't support it yet. Unfortunately you're going to have to be patient.

I have not tested this, but usually "ro.ril.enable.amr.wideband=1" in build.prop does the trick.

If the N6 supports volte and we are using it before vzw sales the device directly, is Google able to help us activate this feature? Bc i dont see vzw giving an update to phones that are unrecognized and showing as non vzw devices.
Sooo.... I am wondering if volte support will ever work on those of us who chose not to wait til vzw releases their version of the nexus 6?
May be the price we had to pay to get a non tramp stamped nexus without any carrier customizations and bloat.....

I'm just happy my Nexus 6 hasnt been violated by Verizon. They never got their dirty little hands on it. It's so nice having a phone with No bloatware.
Verizon will eventually carry the Nexus 6 and will eventually send out the Software update which enables VoLTE. I'm not sure if we will get that update? But we shall see what happens

[Q] Verizon Xlte and Verizon volte

Knowing that the nexus 6 include the xlte bands required on Verizon, I assume xlte works on the phone of of the box?
Also, does anyone have information about possibly baking in volte into this phone from looking at other Verizon variants that have volte?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Free mobile app
First one is sort of, need trimmed sim or nano, but it is hard to get the nano activated. I don't really consider this working out of the box
Second one, that is Verizon. We've heard different dates and had photos leaked. It will most likely come, but volte is something on Verizons side, not ours. So you can't do anything about that unless they end up supporting it.
Is the volte options Sim based or ROM/kernel based or both? Anyone know that?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Free mobile app
It is network based option. I'm judging based on what I've seen on my iPhone 6 Plus. The second verizon sent out an email stating they've enabled volte here, I had a new option upon network settings reset.
I have a nexus 6 on the business line and I've been very tempted to use that as a main device. Unfortunately, experience with it on verizon isn't as good as the iPhone. Voice + Data is a big one to me, it also doesn't seem to keep LTE as well in poor coverage areas. Also, verizon is odd... I either have 2 bars or 4 bars of LTE most places. With 2 bars I'm upwards of 60mbps and about 10 with 4. That switching happens most places I'm at. I'm guessing it is due to the bands that they use. On the nexus, anytime this switching happens I have just grey bars and service can be wonky.
Has anyone looked at there options on the Verizon website? I was able to add Advanced Calling 1.0 but I can't figure out how to turn it on on the phone. I rebooted but there are no options for it. I am stock rooted 5.0.1

Where did you find that menu? I logged into my account online and can't find any reference to advanced calling.
For me it is listed as HD Voice on Verizon's Site. To verify on the site I go to Add Change Features --> Manage Your Products --> It should be listed there.
Though as of right now Verizon has not enabled it on their end for this phone. http://www.verizonwireless.com/landingpages/advanced-calling-devices/

lte is only a data connection. your provider must have Volte. volte is Voice Over LTE. thats the only way to get voice on lte.
Ok, so there is no way to get it running otherwise until they setup volte on their system?
