Moto X Curve similar to the Old Nexus S? - Moto X Q&A

I've been studying pictures of the 2014 Moto X but I can't really tell. I loved the curve on the old Nexus S...the front face of the Nexus S was curved where the ear and mouth ends had a slight curve upwards. Is the Moto X curved like this? Or is the curve only on the back and the front glass face is flat/straight?

No, it's not. The glass is perfectly flat except for the edges where it curves into the body.
What I'm curious about though, is why you would even think it would be curved like that in the first place?

The original Google phone with the ultimate curve... Nexus S. Notice how the face is not flush with surface because of the curve. it was a awesome design

I know about the Nexus S, I used to have one. The Nexus S and the Galaxy Nexus are the only two phones that I can think of that have that curved front... why would you think Moto X would have that same design?

There have been a couple other curved phones from LG & Samsung, but they didn't see a wide release and I think were only available in Southeast Asia. Either way, every phone that has had any curve too it has ALWAYS been advertised that it was curved, and the Moto X was not mentioned as being curved, or even hinted that it wasn't flat.

Don't Think Moto X need a case?

MOTO X phone could be the most hardest one and the screen and battery cover is even much harder than the protective case, so will you still arm your mate a case or just keep it naked without dangerous..?

I carry my Nexus 4 naked (glass back), lol.
The only time I use a case is when I'm working. The X feels way too nice in the hand to put a case on it.

I don't uses cases. I don't drop my phones, so. Had the black iphone 5 for 9 months. The only scratch on it was caused by a case. Never dropped it.
I have insurance for a reason.
:fingers-crossed: No case or screen protector on my X. Didn't have either on my Razr for 20 months without issue.
I dropped mine twice and it cracked the screen in 3 places

Not sure how anyone can use cases and make these beautiful phones look ugly and bulky. Buy insurance or buy an other one if you break.
I hate using cases on my devices. After owning this gem for less than 12 hours I dropped it on the corner while putting it in my pocket from less than 3 feet off the ground. Now there's a chunk missing on the corner. This made me sick and was due to the fact that the "magic" glass wraps around the corners. I ordered a case on the way home.

I wanted to go case free but I dropped my phone from about waist height. Scuffed a corner and cracked the screen. I ordered a case
I have a case but no screen protector. After 2 weeks of owning it, I noticed some scratches on the front glass... Not impressed.

about moto x Camera lens protection

does anybody know about the quality and how strong is the camera lens from the moto x can handle from scratch ? I'm just thinking about cover it with plastic or cut a few piece from smartphone screen protector and put it on the top of the moto x camera lens surface, well I've attached the moto x with softgel TPU case it has like 5-8mm space between the camera lens of moto x with the softgel TPU case but you know when the phone is already inside your pant's it can get scratch with something that you also put inside your pants , or am I just being to paranoid ? you know I've tried to search this kind of thread in this moto x section but can't find the right one.
hopefully with a pieace of mind from you that would help me or understand more better about how to protect the moto x camera lens .
If you put a screen protector over it your picture quality will be crap. Not sure what the protection level is, but I'd say as adequate and standard as most other phones - minus the HTC X (or whatever 1st gen One was called), and I'd even be as bold to say it looks like we have more protection on the lens than the Nexus 5.
You'll be fine with just your TPU case.

Moto X Screen Edges (Curved?)

Hey just a question, does the Moto X (2014) have the smooth edges of the screen curved similar to the iPhone 6 because that's kinda what I see in pictures. Or is it like a 90 degrees corner or what? Sorry if this has been answered, or if its a dumb thread... Cheers!

Yes, it has a radius on the edge of the glass, that blends with the aluminum frame on the side.
Yes and it feels nice.
Probably more noticeable to look at on the white version though.
Yeah a slight curve, so be weary of tempered glass protectors, the Bodyguardz version does not sit flush on the screen, makes me sad. But oh well.

Opinions on this case?

Doesn't look like (in the pics) that it will make my phone massive. Anyone have this case? What are your thoughts on it?
I have this case and it is very nice. Adds a little thickness to the phone, but less than many others. I am currently rocking the project fi case i received in my welcome kit. I rotate between 5 different cases, but the Supcase is my favorite if i had to stick to just one.
I have this case in a couple of colors and love it. I've bought many over the last year, and always end up coming back to this one. You won't regret getting it.
I have used it also. One of the nicer ones. Running a Seidio presently.
Had one on my moto x, and have one on the nexus. Pretty minimal bulk added, any case will make it bigger. Haven't dropped it yet, but dropped the moto x more then once and it was fine, but I think its smaller size helps make it more durable.
Currently own this and very satisfied with it. Definitely one of the better cases

Does the screen protector help avoid fingerprints? Does it cut down on screen quality at all?

There is no included screen protector with this case. Screen not covered.

That's unfortunate.
Can anyone recommend a screen protector then that helps avoid fingerprints and doesn't kill screen quality? (And is on Amazon)?

Question to the owners: Is this phone slippery?

Hey mates,
I've read about 20 reviews, saw countless videos and such. Everyone said "it is plastic, but it doesn't feel cheap".
Not a single person talked about how it feels in the hand, if it has a "grip" or slides through too easily.
So, it is plastic with fiber-glass or carbon woven in, fine. How does it feel compared to:
- the wonderful soft touch back of the Nexus 5 or Moto X (1st gen.)
- a slippery glass back of any genuine phone
- the cheap plastic of a Samsung S3
Maybe a "slip scale" rating of 1 (not slippery) to 10 (very!) is highly appreciated.
Thanks
I'd say slip scale of 5/6 its not going to slide out of your hand but its certainly not glued to it either.
A few things.
From surface feel
It's not as slippery as the Galaxy S7 or S8. (owned most recently)
It's is not cheap feeling like a S3 (owned)
It is more slippery than the Nexus 5 and Moto X (owned both).
Of note is that this phone weighs 8% more than a nexus 5 (and 90% as much as a S8). This means it feels more substantial in the hand. That seems like it could make it easier to carry.

That's exactly what I wanted to have answered, thank you very much!
Now I'm still undecided haha but that's my problem for sure.
More slippery than a S5, I'd say 4.
