[Q] S View cover and Google Now - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I put on an S View Cover today and love it, quality has improved ALOT vs Note 3's. Only 2 complaints so far,
1. Still no cut out for LED notification.
2. When say "OK Google", the phone beeps and listen just fine, but before it could finish telling me the respond, it got cut off. This is due to the phone was locked and put to sleep because of the cover still closed.
I am a little frustrated with issue #2. Any solution would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys.

It is almost too weird that any question I've asked up on here never gotten any responds. Is it just me? Guess no one else has similar problems, I'll live with it for now. Great phone though, love it.

I have same problem but stuck like you are

I am interested in buying the Samsung S-View cover as well. Is there a place that sells genuine covers cheaper than the $50 MSRP?
That is price pretty steep for a cover.
Where did you guys buy yours?

For issue#2 an app called Open Mic+ enables Google now on the s-view screen, but it's a battery eater!

If you just bought a Note 4 you should read this :)

This is a friendly heads up to check your Note 4's S Pen soon. My S Pen doesn't work on a section of my screen. I wouldn't have noticed this if I didn't try drawing over the entire screen because using the S Pen to scroll around still works. I only noticed it when drawing because there was a consistent section that I couldn't draw on. After doing some research I found out that this could be caused by cases that have magnets in them. My case doesn't have magnets, but I took it off anyway and still had the issue. I took it back to the store I bought it from and they told me that it's a hardware failure and that I can get it exchanged as soon as they get more Note 4's in stock.
I think I just got a defective unit, but I wanted to let everyone know because this isn't a problem anyone is likely to find until months after using their phone when it's too late to do an easy exchange at the store you bought it from, especially if you have a really small area that doesn't work.
I hope this helps some people!
Edit: Here's an update to the S Pen issue. This video shows some troubleshooting and solutions to the problem I mentioned above.
I have seen others report said similar problem and it turned out to be caused by the magnet on their case, is it possible your case has a magnet?

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately I already tried removing my case (no magnets anyway, but I figured I'd give it a shot) and I still have the issue. I'm getting it exchanged for free. I just need to be patient and wait for more Note 4's to come in This post was just to let people know to check their Note 4s too just in case I'm not the only one with the issue..
ya, your are not alone

So much for making a magnetic qi charging dock for the car. Thanks for the heads up.
Just checked mine, seems I can draw on every part of the screen phew!
Glad they are replacing yours free of charge, they are supposed to. Hope they get stock ASAP!

If you're just putting a coil on the back of your phone and a magnet on your car dock then you shouldn't have any issues unless you try to write on your note with the S Pen while it's docked. A coil alone is passive and won't interfere with the S Pen.
good tip
So I've seen at least two posts for things people getting a Note 4 should check for and exchange if they get a defective unit:
1) S-Pen working on every part of the screen
2) Screen uniformity issues
Could someone create a post with these issues (ideally someone who has the phone and has run into these issues) as well as recommended best way to test for these. Basically a new purchaser's check list to test and exchange before it may get harder to get it exchanged.
Added a link to a video that talks about the issue I had and offers some solutions and troubleshooting tips.

Wireless charging solutions?

Has anyone seen any 3rd party solutions for this yet? Cases, etc?
I miss it to death, can't seem to forget how nice it was on the N5. Especially with the not-so-great battery life, would be really nice to be able to place it on a charging pad at work or home when not using it.
I'm considering switching to N6 just for this, even with the downside of not being able to fit it in my pants pocket... on that note btw, after playing with the N6 and Note4 at the store, the Moto X feels tiny in my hands now!!

One reviewer says that it works just fine with the X. You could probably also stick it behind the case back if you're willing to open it up.
Yep I ordered it yesterday. Will give it a try with a case this evening and post how well it works. Not sure I'm ready to take off the back just yet, ha.

Works quite well with the i-Blason case. I got that exact wireless charger insert, just fit it between case and the device. I also cut the top off the charger, otherwise it was sticking too far out into the "dimple" of the case.
I am not a big fan of cases and would like to eventually just stick this behind the back cover - anyone know if the back cover is tough to take off?
Anyone look into an internal mod yet? Anyone able to take the back off safely and put this inside?

Led View Cover

I got the LED view cover for S7 Edge and read somewhere that it should be possible to answer calls by swiping the led on the front... But I can't get it to work.
Also is it so that the LED is supposed to light up only in 2-3 seconds?
Have you switched on the nfc on your phone? This needs to be on for the case to work properly. The LED only lights for a few seconds on my case also. Hope this helps
Hi guy's I have just finished reviewing the official led case on YouTube, I bought it with my own money and I don't earn a penny from my reviews. Click on my link below and see the major flaws with this case.

It costs between £40 & £50 depending where you buy it from. Which country are you based in?
I bought this case when I got the phone, because there was no other decent case in the store at the time being and I couldn't wait till April for my spigen cases to arrive from amazon (I know, right..... April??).
It is quite nice actually. The materials used are very good, very "premium" (as it is socially accepted to say). The inside of the lid is a soft leather-like material and I feel quite certain it won't scratch the screen (like the SView for the S6 duo did). Also you DO NOT need NFC turned on in order to use the LED part of the case. I turned off my NFC the moment I got the phone and the case works flawlessly (accepting, rejecting calls etc).
One thing I do mind though is the limited functionality. I do not get why I can accept a call when the lid is closed, but I can't end it.... doesn't make much sense. Truth be told this is my only complaint really. The price is quite steep for what it offers though - if I were to buy the case again for the price I got it (circa 50 euro), I don't think I would. Don't get me wrong - it is a really nice case, it's just not worth so much.

I agree with you, interesting about the nfc, the instructions state that it needs to be switched on for the case to work fully. Are you getting text and email notifications with the nfc switched off? And the galaxy music player app showing the eq? Sammie should have created an app for the case to increase the notifications and timings etc.
Yes, I do get text notifications. Don't know about email and music because I use Play Music and Gmail, and the case does not work with third party apps (which is another bummer).

How do you get text notifications? I have NFC enabled but only get for calls and alarms. I use hangouts for texts though.. could that be it?
edit: nevermind, just read the whole comment.. sucks that 3rd party apps don't work :/ I use hangouts, whatsapp and gmail, and it would've been awesome to have those show up, now that we're covering the LED notification on the phone with this cover.
No missed notifications. Only when you receive them. Theres no way to see ANY missed events. It doesn't even recognize original email-app
Full of **** this is!

From what i read it gets power via nfc and doesnt require much, something to do with radiation energy given off by nfc. It might be rubbish but thats all i have heard
Anyone else annoyed by the NFC sound? How do I turn it off???
I think it is the S_Beam_error.ogg that plays (located in /system/media/audio/ui) ... Doesn't work turning off Android Beam. The sound is still there when the led cover gets behind the phone.
u dont need nfc on for it to work, not on my led case anyway

That's right. My case works without Nfc turned in settings, too. Strange thing is that at the beginning the case was not always working properly- delayed notifications, once I couldn't answer the call with a swipe, errors with displaying, etc. But after some time, about a week or more, it got better and now I rarely face any issues.
After reading this thread i went and bought it. Here are my thoughts.
The case is expensive but worth it if u can get it cheaper. I only paid full price cause i financed it from tmobile to pay $3 a month. For the $69.99 that it actually cost. I actually hate flip cover case but this one i really like.
Not sure if it is real leather but it feels really premium, it does look really premium. Has a flip cover is very easy to open and close.
It needs NFC only to pair at the begining, then u can disable it and still works 100% i get all my notification, the time etc, this is with NFC off (after pair)
I do like when u are in a call the led shows the duration of the call instead of the time, i also get my notification of sms and when im charging i get a cool animation of charging battery icon then a % battery number.
Wireless charging works just has well with this case. I really like how it feels and in half of day of use i have gotten use to this flip cover.
If u can find it under $50 i really recommend this case, very soft premium feel, i had before the samsung slim platic cover, it is nice looking but the back plastic also become very fingerprint and slipery. Not enough grip, also its more like scratch cover than anything else. This case seem to take a fall and protect. Plus is protecting the screen for fall and scratches.
this case is only ok, if it was around £15-20 it would be more appropiate. it just lets its self down with the notifications only staying on for a few seconds, if it stayed on all the time it would be a great case
3rd party notification
anyone working on LED cover notifications ?
the cover is excellent. however, i hope someone can develop application to include 3rd party notification such as whatsapp and facebook. it will be awesome !!
thanks

Anyone planning on using a Style Ring or similar on their Note 8?

I do a lot of walking in Central London, barging through countless tourists and so on. I use wireless headphones so keeping my phone in a pocket affects the line of sight and breaks up the Blutooth signal, so I keep the phone in my hand (also i like to manage my music and check train times, etc). I currently use a Nexus 6P and it is so big, I have put a Spigen Style Ring on the back to allow me to use the phone without fear of it being knocked out of my hand, or even grabbed by some thieving crapbag (even though the joke would be on them, as I have the dreaded battery/shutdown issue).
Anyone else planning on using one, or similar device? Any better option out there? I will also have a skin and have bought a Ringke Slim in case the skin doesn't work out.

I have used Bluetooth headphones on a couple of phones including my note 8. I always keep my phone in my pocket and have never had a problem with Bluetooth breaking up. When I was a machinist I would keep my phone in my toolbox and walk around the shop and it never broke up. Try different headphones.

The headphones aren't the problem, bluetooth naturally suffers in the outdoors, where line of sight is reduced. My phone usually lives in my back pocket, hence the worsened connection problems. Anyway, this thread was for any suggestion re. the use of a Style Ring of any kind....

Bluetooth doesn't rely on LOS. It does however rely on 2.4ghz spectrum which is overly crowded. And anything that interferes with that spectrum will interfere with bluetooth.
I have one on my S7 Edge.
I'm thinking about getting it on my Note 8, but there are both strong pros and cons to it.
Pros:
- Once it becomes used too much it's much easier to rotate, you can use the phone as a fidget spinner!
- When I was in Thailand, it probably saved my phone a few times as I was able to take photos on a really unsteady speedboat without fear of dropping my phone.
- The phone is much easier to hold when taking selfies. Just push your middle finger (XD) through the ring and use your thumb to take photos. Piece of cake.
Cons:
- I couldn't get wireless charging to work anymore as the ring was in the way, not a huge deal to me but it's somewhat of a deal as I do have a powerbank with wireless charging.
I am probably not getting the ring and get a nice dbrand skin instead.
But for those who care about holding their phone safely, the ring is a fantastic option. Just remember, it messes up wireless charging and is probably not removable. I never tried to remove the ring but it IS really strongly glued which is how it's supposed to be, you don't want your phone decoupling while you're fidget spinning it around

I used to have a FlyGrip on my Note 4's Caseology bumper. They are made for iPhones, but will work for other phones. Ruins wireless charging but they are perfect for one-handed use of large phones.
I just bought this detachable lanyard and hope it works well, it should not effect the wireless charger since it is pretty thin and goes on at the bottom
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072WNXRW3/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I also put this on my phones, and depending on the placement or how big the phone is depends on it stopping wireless charging, I have a previous phones one, on my note 8 at the bottom and it does not stop wireless charging when it is naked, not sure how it will work with a case on and or with the strap i bought on also.

I ordered to the Surface
I’ve always gotten the surface so I figured I would continue using that one. If it turns out that I don’t like that one, how do you like the Dilex? Second off I also got the free Vitreo. How do you like it? Does the Spen work well with it? Any issues with it? Lastly, I normally don’t use screen protectors, but I’ve heard that phones with Gorilla Glass 5 for screens scratch easier. So I’m interested in trying the screen protector, but if I use it and I don’t like it for 1 of various reasons is it easy to take off? I just want to make sure after I take it off there will be no issues with me screen like residue and others. I appreciate your help in advance.

Hey, thought I'd help you out. I've used surface for, I Think 6-8 years now, not sure...anyways, thought I'd try the dilex. Bought the dilex, it looks cool, feels good, easier to hold than surface, but there's some problems.
While in the holster, the slightest pressure makes the center of the screen "tap" the holster. The holster has a lock on the center of the inside of the holster facing the screen, and it hits the screen really easily and often.
Also, the whole setup stands pretty far off my waist compared to the surface, and snags everything - car doors, seatbelts, any doors, people that walk by, etc.
When I hang the holster off my pocket, the dilex doesn't sit "flat" like the surface does - it seems like it wants to fall off. Its tilted the whole time and you are very aware its there all day.
Again, keep in mind I've used the surface so long that its like a part of me, so I'm very aware of the differences between the two. Might not bother you.
Thank you for helping, but....

I have news for you. I ended up buying the Dilex and I hope I don’t have the problems you are having. I will tell you that I really had no choice. I, too, have been using the Surface for many years and literally thought it was the greatest case ever. I referred it to everyone. However, that was until now. I am shocked that Seidio sold it. I don’t know what is going on at that company, but the holster came in looking like the felt was worn. Had these white spots on it. I still would’ve dealt with it until I went to put the phone in it. When I attempted to put the phone in the holster the latch hit the screen, so there was no way that you could just put it in. You needed a second hand to open the latch to get the phone in which was ridiculous. What was worse was that when you tried to take the phone out you couldn’t just use your one hand to hit the latch and pull it. It would get stuck so again you needed both hands except this time it would still be stuck so you have to wiggle it back and forth until you can get it out (I’m sure you’d miss your call by then). And the worst thing of them all is when I called the company, they were fully aware of the issue and still sold the case and holster combo and just blamed it on the fact that the phone is just a really long phone. I told them that it was odd because my last phone was only 3mm shorter and I believe that if this phone was 3mm shorter the latch still wouldn’t come close to working. That’s how poorly designed and how badly they were off. So I asked about exchanging it and they said they don’t do exchanges, but I can buy the Dilex and just get a refund on this. So I followed his instructions and now I found out that I have to pay the shipping back, which I was shocked. It wasn’t like I wasn’t buying another case and this one was definitely a flawed product. I also have referred so many people and am also potentially buying another case for my daughter. So I asked how much it should cost for me to ship this back and he said I can ship it however I want, so pick the cheapest. He said right now it is $3.75 for standard shipping on their end. That confused me, I said that I thought standard shipping was free and he said they changed their policy. I asked when did this happen and he said yesterday, which I thought was really odd. I am currently confined to my bed due to an illness so my wife took it to the post office and it was almost $5 to send it back which I asked are you sure that was the cheapest and wife told me she double checked that and she told me that she confirmed with the women at the post office that it was the cheapest. So I paid almost $5 for something I don’t have - makes no sense. As far as the Dilex, so far I have mixed emotions. I definitely think it’s probably more protective, but I still like the looks of the Surface better. I also like the fact that the Surface is thinner, but at the same time I do kind of like the thickness of the Dilex in a weird way. I’m very mixed. I’m sure time will tell. As far as the holster is concerned, I didn’t put it on my belt. I just checked to see how the phone worked with it. You can just push it in but the latch does come close to the screen, but does just miss it. I just hope it doesn’t wear on the case as you keep pushing it in. I originally tested it with the screen facing out because I didn’t have a screen protector on it. So if it is pushing the screen than you can always put it in with the screen facing out. I hope I don’t have the same problem when I put it on my belt. I am going to try it to see if I have the same issue with it pressing the screen. I will probably find out if it gets caught on something when I go to the doctor next time. I really hope I don’t have that issue. I really need a phone case that is protective, but thin and also a convenient holster (because I’ve used some really bad holsters in the past, that I hated). I would prefer to have a kickstand as well, but I guess it’s not as important. I hope the Dilex will work for me, but I will start looking now for other combos for the future, just in case. I really hope things get better for Seidio, but want to make sure I am covered. Thanks for your response. At least you know (unknowingly at the time) you still made the right decision in not getting the surface combo because it was horrible. They told me they have had numerous calls about it. So I asked them about the Dilex and they said they don’t see why there would be an issue. I asked them how they knew about the issue with the Surface and they said due to the calls coming in. So they evidently don’t test their products first, which is really poor. But I hope they learn for their mistakes and get back to the company that they were. Sorry for the lengthy response. Thanks again!
