Wakelock on stock 4.4.4 - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

Hi everyone,
Just faced with a new issue on my Galaxy s3 lte running stock rom 4.4.4, would appreciate if someone can help out.
Flashed the stock rom 4.4.4 using the source image from Sammobile via Odin. It worked flawlessly for the last 2-3 weeks. There were no wakelocks.
But since this evening having wakelock issues and battery draining really fast.

Thanks for the help.. Already downloaded and turned it off.. Let's see how things go
???

Just wanted to post an update regarding the battery issue. As suggested I have downloaded the fast dormancy app and disabled it.
Seems like it has affected the battery life. Although I am still having wakelocks, the battery life doesn't seem to be that bad.
Still no sure why I am having wakelocks even when the screen was turned offu. Didn't use to have this on stock 4.4.4.
Can somebody help to figure out which particular app was behind these wakelocks?

Try disabling wi-fi in sleep mode (settings - wi-fi - menu button - advanced - keep wi-fi on during sleep - never).

Would appreciate some help from anybody . Thanks in advance.
These battery life on stock rom 4.4.4 for i9305 doesn't seem normal...

Which kernel and modem are you using?

I hope I can answer your query to with the following images :
Sent from my GT-I9305N using Tapatalk

The speaker problems could be a kernel issue, try flashing AGNi. I'm not sure why your battery stats are saying that you have Wi-Fi on 100% of the time despite having turned off Wi-Fi in sleep mode. You could try installing Greenify and greenifying Facebook and Facebook Messenger since it looks like those are what keep waking up your phone. Doing that will stop you from receiving FB messages while your phone is asleep though.

Just wanted to post an update regarding volume and wake lock issue.
The volume issue was related to hardware which I got solved. It had nothing to do with Android 4.4.4.
I have been using agni kernel for stock for a while now.. Still seem to get some wakelocks..I guess that's partly because of my network operator's 3G network.. I can be wrong! Not sure..

Some stuffs to check:
- In WIFI advanced settings, do you have "Always allow scanning" enabled ? If yes, try disable it.
- What is your GPS accuracy setting set to? GPS, Wifi or Networks? Try setting it to GPS only or try disable it...
- If you use AGNi, do you have Touch Wake enabled in "Kernel features" section ? If yes, try disable it.

I have ONE quick question. Are you using Google Now ?

Gray Wifi Icon with JuiceDefender/GreenPower

Hi, everyone. For those of you NS owners running ICS 4.0.3 and use JuiceDefender or GreenPower to manage your Wifi, after unlocking or turning on your screen and then connecting to Wifi, do you get an all gray Wifi icon on the notification bar, even though you're getting good signal?
Here's what mines look like, and I'm not sure if this is an app or ICS 4.0.3 issue:

It only shows up like normal (with blue bars) if I turn off and turn on back right away my screen.
So, nobody uses JuiceDefender or GreenPower on their NS?
I actually use Juice Defender as well, however when I have good signal (using WiFi) it turns blue as it should.
I am using Stock 4.0.3 w/ BrainMaster's tweaks.
I use AOKP has a built in "Juice Defender"

I'm having the same exact problem, but I'm on the LTE Galaxy Nexus.
I'm having exactly same problem.
When I turn on "power saver mode"(it's AOKP stock JD control) it shows always grey signal after turn oh the screen, even though signal's fine.
Anyway, it's not so anoying for me. :-D

Well, my NS is on Brainmaster's Stock ICS ROM. So, I suppose this is an ICS issue, and power saving apps have nothing to do with it.
What's the best way to let Google know about this bug?

I don't use Juice Defender and I don't have that issue. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say your problem actually is Juice Defender. The gray icon means you are not synced with Google's servers. Since Juice Defender turns off sync/mobile data as one of it's features logic says its the app that's the problem

If that was the case, it would show the connectivity bars and be gray. As seen in his screenshot, it's not even showing signal strength. And if we weren't connecting to the google servers, we would be experiencing other problems.
I don't think it's an ICS issue either, it happened on my Droid Bionic on 2.3 as well.
Yup, I just installed Juice Defender on my Galaxy Nexus (used it on my Nexus One) and noticed the grey wifi signal just like your screen shot. Happens after I unlock the device.
Old thread I know, but I've got the same issue on galaxy note running custom ics rom . O ly happens when jd is set to manage wifi. I turn wifi management off inside jd and my wifi signal notification is back to normal
Confirming problem on Galaxy S3.
Again I know this is an old thread but I thought it was appropriate just to confirm this bug on the galaxy S3. Don't know of a fix though.
I still have the same bug with Green Power

I was hoping that this issue will be resolved in the official ICS 4.0.4 update, but my NS still has this gray Wi-Fi icon bug with both JuiceDefender and GreenPower.
Bug on S3
I can confirm this bug not only while usng JD, and Green Power, but also using Better WiFi.
This might be caused by some permission isue with ICS. And not necesarilly with JD.
I will install JD on jelly bean, and see if the bug is still there.
Bug on S3 too
Hi !
I've got a galaxy S3 with JuiceDefender, and I've got exactly the same problem too...
Same bug still exists in stock Jelly Bean.

Why doesn't someone email to developer of GreenPower ? Gael is a kewl dude and we've been exchanging emails, when he started with the GreenPower app.

Screen wakes up from sleep/standby by itself.

Hello guys, I'm interested in buying a galaxy note from somebody, but it has a problem. The screen wakes up from sleep by itself multiple times. From what I understand it turns on, then turns off, a few seconds later it turns on, then off.
I've seen this problem on other forums, and some answers include turning off/uninstalling some programs, but the guy who owns the phone said he restored to factory default. (The phone is rooted.)
Is this a fixable problem? Is it a big bother to stop me from trying to buy the phone? Is this a hardware or software? Did anyone have this problem and fix it? Thanks.
Ah poop wrong section (supposed to be in the Q&A right). Had the wrong tab open, sorry.
You could try cleaning the use port. Maybe the phone thinks something is being plugged in

I have had this problem, but it only ever happens when you turn the Note on while on charge. If you disconnect before turning on it never happens. No idea if that helps, but that is my experience.
i had this same problem and it was caused by go weather app because it wasn't able to access the internet for some reason..
i reinstalled the app and it solved the problem..
i have included a screenshot of night time usage when this problem existed.i did not use the phone during the entire 8 hours..the phone was acting by itself..

Thanks a bunch for the answers guys, some new answers I haven't seen. I bought the phone, so hopefully if it happens I can fix it.
Just in case somebody else is looking for the same answer (since it's a rare problem), some possible answers I've read on other forms (haven't tried any of these):
1. Clear cache/memory from the task manger.
2. Check apps. that connect online (including widgets), and disable/reinstall them (like what johnvarghese said). This might happen with there is no wifi. (Also check which apps might wake up your phone from sleep.)
3. Somebody (on a random forum) told me to turn on the GPS.
4. Some applications can be used for locking/unlocking/ or disabling other programs/ or turning of wifi when the phone turns off, not sure, more info. could be found if you google search.
Again thanks a bunch guys.

Congradulations on your new phone. Ive been a happy note owner for almost a month. On stock 4.0.3 just root. The problem ur refering to dosent seem to me as a problem, my note and nexus s have the same issue and a few friends owners of android devices get the same "behaviour" whether on ics or gb. When i look at my battery stats, during the night the phones battery usage is literally a flat line but with many wake ups in the screen. Above a user posted a screen shot over an 8 hour period with massive drain. thats not normal. you shouldnt worry yourself as long as your battery is holding up properly.

in my case, mp3 downloader's ad Notification was waking up my screen,
I found it out by using app "Wakelock detector" GooglePlay Link
you need to check for "full wakelocks", check the screenshot
Screend issue resolved (Culprit:- Facebook locked by Applock)
I have locked facebook app with 'Applock software, which was causing the problem.:crying:
Now I have removed Facebook from 'Applock software list.
Now it is working fine. :fingers-crossed:
P.S. other application are still locked by Applock software:good:

what option you have selected in settings? Always or Never? Its was change in ICS and it works different than 2.3 GB...
The setting is actually asking you when you want to leave wifi on when screen turns off.
Always. will leave wifi on and
Never. will turn it off when screen turns off.
Mine works fine.
In settings select "Never (increases data usage)", something like that, mine is Portuguese...

Mine works too, just go to Wi-Fi's Advance menu and change the Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep setting, then it will never turn off
I'm not sure that WIFI is off or not.
But while updating apps in Google Play and then screen off, when phone waked, Google Play was just hang and stop updating.
May be just a bug of Play but I rather think it's a problem of stock rom.
With firmware V10d and earlier my phone had the same problem but it's gone since update to V10f.

Extreme battery drain?? 6.0.1

Has anyone else run into this after 6.0.1 update. It really didn't hit me until last night when I decided to test it. Unplugged my phone at 80% and went to sleep only to wake up to it dropping almost 50%!!!!!....not normal. It looks like something is just not right with everything after the update because after checking everything, nothing seems to fit. And before you say it was my wifi, I just changed that, this happened even if wifi was off. But I can say doze is definitely not working and no app seemed to go "rouge" with wakelocks when trying to check. Going to downgrade back to a previous build of 6.0, but hopefully someone else can chime in. Only found a few articles of people reporting the same thing but no one is actually posting possible solutions, just bashing a legitimate concern. Hopefully I don't run into that here.....

Only out of place thing I see is that your screen was on at some points but the phone wasn't saying it was awake. That leads me to believe there's a kernel wakelock issue because I had the same thing but on 5.1. The issue turned out for me to be a wakelock called bluesleep which is related to bluetooth and it came about from an app called gasbuddy which silently updated to provide support for bluetooth "beacons" at gas stations to give you deals or some crap like that. If you're rooted you can install BetterBatteryStats to test for kernel wakelocks, you can test for bluesleep wakelock by just turning off bluetooth and seeing if the drain/weird screen-on not awake thing happens, and long press power off to start the phone in safe mode to narrow down whether its a system issue or installed app issue and if rooted use an app freezer like Titanium Backup to freeze your installed apps a few at a time to narrow down what app(s) are causing it(so you don't have to uninstall/reinstall trial and error).

Wow thanks for that, I actually use GasBuddy, wish you were here before the factory reset I did, but everything seemed to go back to normal after I did the reset but I wanted to actually try to find out specifics. I haven't rooted just because I use Android pay (I know system less root us out there) but I'll try to keep an eye out for that stuff if it happens again.

It was that....
Thanks my friends
WiFi scanning is a battery drainer on all phones I've noticed it's the first thing I disable on a new device

Same.
It annoys me though when I activate high accuracy mode and it enables it back on. I normally just have device/GPS only, which suffices for Google maps etc. but some apps require it

I'd also recommend trying changing network mode to LTE/WCDMA, via the *#*#4636#*#* menu, if facing any cell standby drain. Doing so has quite literally doubled my battery life!

As I understand, it makes the device cycle between just 3g and 4g, whereas the default setting it cycles through other frequencies perhaps.
Whatever it does, by changing the setting I have no more cell standby drain and battery life;SOT has easily doubled.. Seriously!

It unfortunately does revert back to default upon a reboot, so likely will with the scheduled power on/off.
Let us know though!
