[Q] LG L90 D315 bricked without recovery access etc - LG Optimus L90

So this is my first xda thread. I spent hours searching without finding a solution for my particular case.
I am using a LG L90 D415 (T-Mobile version) and I got bored of it and so I started playing with the system (not the first phone I'm doing that with, so I know a bit about that sutff). So I tried to install the new Android L home launcher from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2796019
I did everything like explained, installed it and changed the build.prop like described. But after I rebooted my phone, expecting a new home launcher, the phone boots, I am at the lockscreen, but after like 4 seconds I receive multiple errors (like gapps stopped working) and than everything freezes and it reboots.
Unfortunaly I didn't install a recovery or unlocked fastboot. So I can access download mode, but that's it. My computer doesn't see my phone (because usb debugging deactivated?) and so I don't know what to do. I think that's a pretty tough case but I hope some smart person can help me
Thank you

No custom recovery and no fastboot? Factory reset is your only option. See this post. Scroll down to Q14. Even though it's titled something else, the same button presses apply for your device in it's current state, ie; no recovery, no fastboot

First thanks for the fast answer. So I figuered that I only need to delete the build.prop file and replace it with my backup file. Isn't there any way to rescue my files and/or access the /system folder? I'm an exchange student now and I don't wanna lose my picture memories
And btw I know that I build the perfect worst case scenario right now
Oh and in the L90 faq it says that when you flashed a recovery and you navigate to factory reset it won't reset but boot into recovery. Does something like this work even without recovery, so I could try doing stuff with adb?

If adb isn't detecting the phone, no. There isn't any other way.

Unfortunately, no.
Factory reset will not erase your sdcard. It will however erase internal data. It will return the phone to the state it was in the first time it was powered on.

[HELP] Power/End, Call, Menu, Home and Back Buttons not Working on G1

So, this didn't happen until the other day, but suddenly, my Power/End, Call, Menu, Home and Back buttons aren't working on my G1. The only way I could get the phone to power up was to plug it into a USB, and then place the battery in to force a boot. I can't reset anything, leave screens, accept calls, or do anything really because of this issue, and it's debilitating.
Before you tell me to search, I'll tell you that I've already searched multiple times. I know the rules of the forums, and I wouldn't have created a new thread if the issue had already been solved by a previous thread. However, if I missed a thread that could help, rather than saying "SEARCH FOR CHRIST'S SAKE", I'd appreciate a link.
Thanks, guys. XDA has always been useful to me, and I really just want a solution, since the G1 has been the best phone I've ever had.
If it matters, I'm using Cyanogen 4.1.11.1, with the 2.6.29.6-cm41 kernel. I'd upgrade, but I can't, since my home button isn't working.
Try wiping, enter terminal or use adb shell "reboot recovery" to enter the reboot screen. Once you have wiped or reflashed, use "reboot"
I can't wipe or flash, because I need the home button.
I know, to enter recovery without using the home button user adb shell reboot recovery
Yes, but how do I wipe from there? When I select wipe, it asks me to press the home button.
Oh my you really seem to have dug yourself into a hole here... not good. Hmm. Try wiping from the Settings on your phone, there is a factory reset on there.
"No reset was performed because the System Clear service was not available."
Is there a way to wipe from the console, or adb shell?

Now thats a right proper one mate..anyway how do you tuen her on if the button doesnt work?
You can use fastboot to clear your data partition (userdata). But this doesn't sound like a software issue if the buttons aren't even working within recovery/bootloader, it sounds more like a hardware issue. I would take it up with T-Mobile or HTC.
I was able to turn it on by plugging in the battery while it was plugged in via USB, but now that doesn't even work. I have a feeling that I just wiped the entire system, as I can only access the fastboot, and when I try to boot normally, I just get stuck at the white G1 screen. So it seems I have two issues now. Any solutions for either? Unfortunately, my G1 is 5 days out of warranty, too.
If you can access fastboot, then you can flash RC29 and start from the beginning again or you can flash a nandroid backup that you can get from your sdcard to your PC.
Any idea how to flash a nandroid backup or downgrade to RC29 if I don't have working power, home, menu, or call buttons? Like, is there a guide?
Nobody has any solution that doesn't require me to get a replacement phone? I'm willing to pay for a solution. I'm in dire need of this phone. I hate the Blackberry Curve so much.

I think your phone is pretty shot. Even if you do manage to get into a ROM, it seems unlikely that your buttons will come back to life. Without being able to use the home or back buttons, you'll be stuck in whatever application you opened until you restart your phone.
If you want to try it out, you can flash an old nandroid backup by first, copying system.img, data.img, and boot.img from the nandroid folder and pasting it in the same folder as your fastboot. Then, boot into the bootloader and type:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash userdata data.img
fastboot reboot
which will restore the nandroid backup.
SOLUTION
I found a fix for this problem on another Android forum, essentially you install "Anycut" from the markey and create a shortcut to the "setup wizard", I had a three setup wizards, the third one worked for me and ran all the way through the phone setup, the others just exited as soon as I selected SKIP. It works, prior to that my HOME, MENU and CALL buttons were not working. I think that a faulty update.zip must have caused permission issues with the software, I had installed some new fonts and straight after I lost the buttons!

Droid 3 seems to be unbrickable

I've tried many different things in alot of the threads I've read on this forum and nothing is working. I tried using the One-Click root on my Droid and it didn't work, come to find out, it was an outdated method for the Droid 3. It messed up my phone. My apps constantly crash. My texts disappear, then sometimes reappear switching the place of the texts randomly. When I reset from settings, it restarts phone, but nothing is reset. It won't let me check my e-mails(G-mail). I can hardly do anything. I've tried flashing back using the AP Fastboot method from psouza(spelling?). On my phone it says Battery OK/Program OK/USB Connected. So I run the "CLICK HERE - Flash Verizon DROID 3 OTA 5.6.890 to phone.bat". It failed.
Then I tried ovelayers method. Everything seems to go good. And I was happy! But when it rebooted, it took me to the android triangle screen. SO I selcected reboot. And absolutely nothing changed. Am I Missing a step? I also tried doing it again, but after it went to traingle android screen, I selected the update from the SD card, installed it, rebooted, and STILL nothing. Nothing changes. Ever. Nothing is working. Please help. I tried being as descriptive as possible so that it answers most potential questions.
*Edit* I've also tried the RDS Lite method. Crashes on step 3.

I have the full system file already. That's what I tried using to update. The problem doesn't lie there though. The problem is that no matter what I do, the phone never resets. It's on right now. If I uninstall apps right now and restart my phone, they'll still be there. Likewise with installing them. If I text anyone, when I restart my phone, that conversation will be gone. Likewise with call logs and everything else. The phone literally after every restart goes back to the same position it was when I badly rooted the first time. No resets, recoveries, hard resets, flashes, etc have worked thus far. I've used ALL the one click SBF versions also, just to be thorough. The phone literally will not change. What I need is something similar to a computer. I need to completely wipe it. Then I need to completely reinstall it from scratch. Just like reformatting your hard drive. I've heard that there has really been no case of an unbrickable phone, that there is always a way to fix it; but this far, I haven't found anybody that hasn't had their phone fixed. Even those that have had similar issues fixed it, and I've tried the methods they've provided to no avail.

I will attempt that now. How is it used? I can build pc's and am rather intelligent in the IT of macs and pc's. But haven't had to do much with Androids till now. Lol. I've tried the wipe/factory method already. I understand that .apk is the file extension for Google Play apps, and I can install it via the SD card, but what do I do from then?
*EDIT* It's installed, it has bootstrap recovery and reboot recovery. Reboot does nothing. Bootstrap says there's an error running a command. Looks like a directory about files and hashcodes. "Working Directory: null/Environment: null".

First you need root access. Use Motofail if you haven't:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/wpl88mwm6eilhe6/motofail.exe
Open bootstrap, press bootstrap recovery, afterwards press reboot recovery.
If it doesn't work, shutdown your phone, hold X and press power and do it from there

So you did wipe/factory reset from recovery and it still boots like nothing happened? I'm not sure how thats possible.. stock recovery shouldnt have anything to do with what you messed up in your rom. Maybe for some reason your phone is unable to write data anymore

Just saw your vid and its exactly as you say. I don't know whats going wrong..
Writing yo your internal might not be the same as writing to your data partition.. I don't see why else wiping from recovery would fail since that part should be unaffected.
You said sbf says its succesful however on your screenshot i see errors.

Well, I don't have insurance on it, as I had gotten it from a friend. So, no. Not without paying an arm and a leg, at which point I'd pay for a new phone instead. I just really wish this could be fixed. I've heard no phone was unbrickable. AM I THE PRODIGY?!

problem with factory reset

hello, i recently bought used droid 4, found it to be with some leftover data (sms, and such) so first thing i did was a factory reset only to
find it after a while in extact same state. weird thing is that when i factory reset it after removing some apps or changing anything at all it acts
as if i restored some backup instead of wiping device. it spams me with errors every few seconds too which is quite troublesome to say the least.
i searched the internet for an answer (still looking) to this problem but so far got nothing. i mean there are lots of ppl with similiar issue
but no real answer anywhere i looked. i thought maybe flashing some stock rom (dont wanna try anything custom yet since i got lapdock
too and havent checked if webtop works with custom roms yet). is it the right direction in my case or is there some simplier answer to my problem?
thanks in advance
update: cant root it, cant install official update through rsdlite, cant update through other unofficial ways,
it acts as if everything went fine and each time im back to square 1. it aint my first or second journey with rooting,
changing rom but im not really sure what else can i do. also rsdlite cant detect any information about device (imei,
os version, flex drm boot etc are all filled with N/A
install from sdcard also failed - signature verification failed. keeps gettin better. downloading another rom from
official moto website... not expecting anything though

tried factory reset with options You mentioned unchecked, same thing as before.
i did use xml with rsdlite and zip through built in recovery.

from what i read in this post about factory cable it says it boots phone different way than normal thats why i thought maybe
itll be able to successfully update with it. also after every reset of this droid its not a simple matter of apps coming back thru wifi.
wifi is disabled and theyre there right from the start. i can remove some widgets or apps from home screen, i can delete texts,
and after reset theyre all back where they were. its as if every change i made havent been saved. i dont even have to reset phone,
i just need to reboot it to have it all back
phone needs to be in AP Fastboot mode when flashing with rsd lite.
verify md5 checksum for xml file before flashing.
yes, it was in ap fatboot mode, didnt verify the md5 tho.
more importantly, file i downloaded from site You linked passed verification! guess what i found wasnt official updates after all...
i hope this works

done, nothing changed.
also, when rsd works it acts as if it doesnt wait for the phone with operations.
it writes reboot, phone starts to reboot, and long time before it boots back either in ap fastboot mode or into recovery
rsd says its already transfering files, it says reboot again (before phone even gets into fastboot or recovery after 1st reboot) and so on.

I actually made a quick search before posting and I tried this password before.. Another solution is to wipe data/factory reset but if possible I'd like just to re-install TWRP or remove the password somehow
you missed a step initially. after unlocking the bootloader, you MUST reboot first before flashing TWRP.
to fix this, you'll need to hit cancel at the password screen, then go into wipe and do a factory reset. next, go back into wipe and press the format data button. you have to type yes to continue.
this isnt a fun process, as you have to re-setup your device again, but you've just learned something.

No need to fear, Theskillfultroll is here! :good:
To fix your issue, download NEXUS ROOT TOOLKIT by WugFresh, after doing so, you need to open it up and choose your correct device (DO NOT MAKE A MISTAKE HERE OR ELSE YOU CAN BE HARD BRICKED) if you have already unlocked the OEM, then good for you, but what i wanna focus here is on the main window, right hand side* there is a button labeled 'FLASH STOCK + UNROOT' depending on your situation , if you are soft bricked select so, if not click device on. if soft bricked it will tell you what to do, and vice versa on other option, AFTERWARDS, attempt to stock flash and unroot, now if it fails godforbid, you have to go to options and ENABLE FORCE FLASH *WARNING IF YOU DID NOT CHOOSE CORRECT DEVICE AND YOU PICK THIS, YOU WILL BE HARD BRICKED* and go through with that. and bam done. i got in a soft loop when i accidentally flashed a boot.img over a rom which made my phone unusable . i had to go through with the soft bricked option AND force flash, it was scary but dont worry man! any more questions ? feel free to PM me

To fix your issue, download NEXUS ROOT TOOLKIT by WugFresh, after doing so, you need to open it up and choose your correct device (DO NOT MAKE A MISTAKE HERE OR ELSE YOU CAN BE HARD BRICKED) if you have already unlocked the OEM, then good for you, but what i wanna focus here is on the main window, right hand side* there is a button labeled 'FLASH STOCK + UNROOT' depending on your situation , if you are soft bricked select so, if not click device on. if soft bricked it will tell you what to do, and vice versa on other option, AFTERWARDS, attempt to stock flash and unroot, now if it fails godforbid, you have to go to options and ENABLE FORCE FLASH *WARNING IF YOU DID NOT CHOOSE CORRECT DEVICE AND YOU PICK THIS, YOU WILL BE HARD BRICKED* and go through with that. and bam done. i got in a soft loop when i accidentally flashed a boot.img over a rom which made my phone unusable . i had to go through with the soft bricked option AND force flash, it was scary but dont worry man! any more questions ? feel free to PM me

wow. seems like a whole lot of work and worry, especially when compared to simply performing 2 wipes in recovery to solve this problem. no extra software required.
OP, stay away from toolkits.

Op said he doesn't want to wipe data and he doesn't have access to recovery (I think) saw your post about manual flashing though, pretty good

ok, so i have this same problem. i have tried the "default_password" thing and the steps in post #4. after performing steps in post #4 everything worked great. but for some reason weeks later the problem has returned. is it possible i'm tripping or could the problem have returned? i know it seems highly unlikely but...
i have also been advised to redo the entire root process, is that a viable option as well?

could be a twrp bug? are you on the latest version? you can try just updating the recovery, via fastboot or app(like flashify). if that doesnt work you can try wiping out the recovery partition(via fastboot) then reflashing the recovery.
yes i am on the current version via rashr app. i'm not sure how to wipe the recovery partition in fastboot....but it seems time i learn.
again, any thoughts to repeating the root process?

why? all that is is flashing supersu or removing it? that had nothing to do with your recovery. you dont need root to have a custom recovery.
ok, so it seems the next thing to try is wipe recovery partition then reflash recovery. i'll begin looking into how to do that. thank you again.
Had this problem last night, if you have a pattern password try using this:
1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9
I had an upper case L and it translated to 2589 and that's what unlocked it for me. Hope this helps someone
Ok, I was also asked for a password a couple of days ago for the first time ever, even though I had accessed TWRP several times before to flash roms, kernels etc so I don't think the reason was that I had forgotten to reboot after bootloader. In my case, I didn't even think of trying to enter any PWD so I selected "cancel" and from what I saw I thought my SD was wiped so I re-flashed stock from Bootloader and re-set the device, rather painfull (now I keep a nandroid backup). The thing is though, before I decided to flash stock I just tried exiting recovery and restarting the system and it wouldn't boot by any means. Just sat on the Google logo for ages heating up. And all this happened after a normal shutdown of the device, not after some fancy flashing/modding...

Are you encrypted?
i was wondering if that made a matter. i didn't want to sound crazy mentioning it....yes, i am encrypted. do we believe that will make a matter?

Absolutely. If your storage is encrypted, TWRP cannot access it without you entering a password. If you don't enter the password, your storage would appear to be blank to recovery.
I personally prefer to wipe my entire device and keep a kernel that does not enforce encryption. Encryption (in my opinion) makes life difficult for rooted users.
seems to be the answer here. i have seen "how to's" on decrypting.... i will decrypt the device, will i have to do anything additional from that point? reflash recovery perhaps? sounds like it would be a good step, but i guess we won't know until i decrypt.

I'm new to the N6 so I am not sure about decrypting as a process. I just did a full wipe, flashed a kernel that doesnt force encryption .

no bs - i took a photo, opened an mms to send it, then the phone bricked itself......

okay so just like you read, i took a photo, opened an mms to send it, then the phone bricked itself. i got a black screen as if the phone was to freeze but then after several attempts to reboot (holding down the power button for long time, pulling battery, etc, etc) i got stuck in a boot loop and this is where i am now.
cannot get into recovery, only download mode.
the phone IS NOT ROOTED. which is what confuses the hell out of me.
i use nova launcher and a bunch of basic apps. nothing has been done to this os other than the launcher and the kernel is all stock too.
can really use some help because i need to retrieve some files off the phone storage.
thanks so much

odin the base you were on and you should be good, you probably somehow got your partition corrupted so you may want to do a clean flash after that

Sorry that you are having such problems. I honestly doubt that it had anything to do with you sending a picture. This looks more like a hardware failure that might be the reason you cannot enter the recovery.
Maybe this helps with the Data recovery. Connect the phone to your computer maybe you are lucky and it gets recognized as a hard drive and you can manually move the files that you want.
If that doesn't work you might want to download the original firmware from your phone (the one that you are using) and flash it via download mode. should that not work try to flash a previous firmware version.
Should none of that work you can try to download just the recovery and flash that and see if that works.
If that doesn't work you might try to root the phone and install a custom rom.
Once you make it into the recovery you should be able to do a reset - however that will destroy the data on the phone.
Good luck with that and you might have to return the phone to be serviced.
