USB Otg help - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, My HTC one is not recognizing USB over OTG. My first suspect was OTG cable itself, but it is working fine with Xperia,Nexus and even Xiaomi.
My HTC is S-off, unlocked rooted, Sense 6 with toolbox installed with stock 4.4.2 and build 5.11.401.10 . Then I flashed elementalX 3.4.1 -14.12 which I was anyway wanted to do. All working fine except OTG. I tried USB stick mount and OTG helper they are not detecting any drives to mount. I can't see usb led light blinking. It cant even detect usb even in recovery (twrp 2.6.3 which I now upgraded to 2.8 but still no success )
Please help to resolve this issue, i am not able to pinpoint the root cause. Its first time that I am trying OTG. I tried even looking into android.hardware.usb.host and handheld_ core_hardware.xml but not sure what to do.

This is information from Danny201281:
Well assuming your mounting it in Settings>Storage>Mount USB storage.
This needs to be done each time you connect the OTG/USB
And the same when in TWRP select Mounts then Internal Storage at the bottom of the screen and select OTG to mount it.
I don't know what else to suggest. Never had to modify anything settings wise. Just mount the device manually through setting and it works. If your cable works with other phones what about the USB stick. Maybe backup the contents and format it with a fresh FAT32 file system and try it again.

I am using stick mount Pro which is mounting the USB but it is saying " No drives found". I checked in Settings ->Storage, Mount USB storage is disabled. This probably means that the phone is not recognizing the pendrive. Same pendrive and cable is getting recognized by many phones (Xperia, Nexus etc). I can also see that USB led is not flashing.
Please help what to do next. I have twrp 2.8, elemental x kernel and sense 6 toolbox installed. I never fiddled with any file in the system.

Have you tried it without Stick Mount Pro? I don't have that app and I am able to mount the USB fine without it.

I uninstalled "USB Stick mount " and USB OTG helper apps. I cant see the Mount USB option enabled after connecting the cable. It seems that USB is not getting any power from phone.

@majmoz
Any suggestion what to do next ? Do i need to reflash from scratch or there is a simpler way to enable OTG ?

The OTG cable in the attachment is the type that I use it has a separate cable to provide power to the USB since the HTC One can not do so. No, it is pretty straight forward on how to mount USB. I would look for the OTG with power cable and try again. It may be that there isn't any power to the USB that is why it is not being recognized.

You don't mention the file system type you're using. For instance, if you formatted your sdcard as exfat, know that your kernel doesn't support it. However, going back to stock should re-enable it. Otherwise, fat32 should work fine all-around.

It can take USB Stick, SD/Micro SD, M2 and T-Flash.
It also allows the charger to be connected for higher power needs. Some USB sticks require external power and some don't. I've never needed to connect the charger while using SD/Micro SD though.
It's a fantastic device I picked it up in my local Tesco £6

[Q] Captivate & Windows 7 64bit Drivers

Hey Guys,
Firstly just got my captivate a couple of days ago and i am still struggling to get to install drivers and have my pc detect the phone. I am totally new to android (coming from iphone)... there might be some obvious things that I might be missing here...
Here is what has happened so far
I have pretty much tried all the drivers on the web and I am still unable to see the drives on my PC. Driod explorer is unable to detect the phone. Device manager is showing a USB device by the name "SAMSUNG Android USB Composite Device".
In the phone i have enabled usb debugging. Once the cable gets connected, I also open notification and enable USB storage.
I am still not able to see the drive or have any applications in my pc detect the phone. What am i missing?
A simple usb device installation has never given me so much trouble. Starting to get frustrated.
Appreciate any pointers in resolving this issue.
Thanks
So you chose "Mass Storage" in settings? And once you connected, pull down the drop down men you, press USB, and then press the "Mount" button?
Mine worked just fine on WinXP and Win7 64 bit once I enabled mass storage and then confirm "Mount" each time you connect.
yes I did choose mass storage option & mount it.
I am able to see the usb drives in windows xp. But cant resolve the issues with win 7 64bit. I am using the following drivers

I know a few people who had connections problems too. They were able to fix it using this driver: http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml
Some others were also able to do it using the Samsung Kies program.
Just one thing, though. You said in your post you're selecting 'Mass Storage'. Did you try selecting 'Kies' (this is even without installing the Kies program)? Try doing that. Also, try having USB debugging off when you perform the aforementioned test.
All I can get with debugging on or off and mass storage is this

no matter what drivers i use. I cant mount it on Windows 7 but I can on vista
My desktop is running Windows 7 64-bit, and I couldn't get it to recognize my phone for anything, even with the drivers from Samsung. The computer doesn't even pick up the phone as a device, much less one it recognizes. I had to use my netbook (Windows 7 32-bit/Linux) to do all my phone-related hacking stuff.
I'm using Win 7 64-bit and here's what I did after reading some suggested steps in another thread:
Install Samsung Kies first, before ever connecting the phone.
Run the program, then connect the phone to a USB port on the motherboard. Not one on the front of the case.
Windows SHOULD start installing the drivers.
I think I selected the Kies option on the phone the first time. Three or four different drivers were installed I believe. When I connected the phone again and selected Mass Storage, two or three different drivers were installed by Windows.
Does this mean I have proper drivers:?
Hi guys,
I just bought a new hp computer with win 7 64 bit os. I am able to use microsoft synctoy to syn itunes to my cappy. Does this mean that I have the proper usb drivers installed on my computer for my phone. I was thinking about rooting my phone and wanted to have the correct drivers installed.
Thanks, I consider myself a newby to the forum and to rooting, so any help would be appreciated.

Has any headway been made on this as I just got windows 7 64 bit, and am having a similar problem. Tried various drivers and whatnot but still cant seem to get the usb to mount like a flash drive. It is being recognized and can receive commands like reboot into download mode from AOI toolbox, but no mounting.. Kinda driving me up the wall bc Ive been stuck on the same rom for a few weeks now and Im itching to get back to flashing all the fresh new cm7 stuff out and just in general new roms.
The newest Kies will install a driver pack when you download it now.
MAkE SURE YOU REMOVE ANY SAMSUNG DRIVERS THAT ARE CURRENTLY INSTALLED
1.) download the newest Kies http://www.samsungapps.com/about/onPc.as?COUNTRY_CODE=CAN&LANGUAGE_CODE=ENG
2.) Install it. While it's installing it will install a driver pack.
3.) Plug your phone in.
This works for X64. I just used it on my own pc last week.

Turn on USB Debugging.
Lol I know how to enable USB debugging man. What I'm saying is windows wont allow it to mount for some strange reason. Going to try the kies driver mentioned earlier. Maybe that will work.
So I tried the kies drivers, and Im getting the same problem. The drivers will install and it will even trick me by showing the removable letters for my storage, but then after a second or so they disappear. When looked at under device manager they are just shown as unknown device. I just wanna backup my data like I used too.

I definitely don't want to insult anyone's intelligence here (which usually means I am going to). i assume we've tried restarting the computer again.....a couple of times.......and if that doesn't work, then manually uninstalling all the drivers which have been installed so far and then starting over using just kies?
Yea, all those mentioned have been tried.

I don't know if this means anything, but windows can recognize my device. Sorta. I tried flashing to stock in hopes that would fix the problem, but it didn't. Isn't it strange that I can flash my phone but not be able to mount my storage??

okay...
So i was able to connect to my Win 7 64 bit computer for a little while ... had to in order to update to Mini Keis 2.2 (ran into problems there but fixed it <if you have questions about it PM me>)
But now that i am in 2.2 i am not able to connect. I get an error saying drivers could not be installed. I have uninstalled the original drivers and installed the ones from AT&T and also tried the ones from Samsung... still same problem. Does anyone one have an idea as to what i can do to solve this problem.
Thanks to any one who can help
I've had luck by doing the following:
Had my phone plugged in - it went fubar - computer didn't recognize the phone.
Re-installed USB drivers (ones Design Gears posted and the ones linked in the Q&A sticky btw) over the top of the existing drivers with the phone plugged in - USB De-Bugging on.
Rebooted PC - winblows found the phone and everything was peachy. Windows 7 64 is definitely nice - but still has issues with detecting drivers and USB devices sometimes. Its still Windows after all
If it works on another PC than you know its a software issue with windows.
If your still getting the same error on another PC - then its possible that your internal card might be fubar.
Well I have tried EVERYTHING. Multiple drivers, uninstalling, reinstalling, rebooting, usb debugging on/off, flashed to stock....Nothing. Windows 7 64bit. I hate hate hate you and hope you die of viral infection.

Hi, i was also having the same issue when i purchased my gnote. i format it several time and updated it to final version 4.0.4. but MTP error was still scratching my head. Finally i got the solution. Keep it in mind that there is no problem with your PC neither with gnote. the main culprit is the APPS which you would have downloaded that prevent gnote to get connected to the PC due to some crappy security reasons. Do this to solve the issue:
1. go to settings>security>device administrators.
2. delete what ever is the device administrator since it is creating problem in your note due to some security reasons.
3. BOOM problem solved.
Now connect your gnote to PC. KIES will detect it and you are done.

VRS

Anyone, please help me fix the MTP issue on my note N7000. I bought the phone without the original usb cable and I had to buy a universal one, so I could connect it to my computer. So, I connected my phone to my laptop, then some drivers started to install. 3 of them had been installed, nut the MTP failed..I tried to reinstall all of the drivers, although I had been using another galaxy note before this one, but nothing worked...Now, when I connect the phone to my computer it shows "connected as media device", the computer sees the phone, but when I try to enter the SD or external SD card, it stucks and won't open...I need to fix this problem because I want to flash the phone via ODIN and won't work this way....please help me!!!

[Q] Cannot access TP from computer...help

I have a TP and it was working fine ( or so I thought )
To cut a long story short, everytime I plug the usb cable into the computer I get a usb not recognised, I've installed novacom ( I have borrowed another TP and it is fine working with my pc )
If I double click on the unknown device it tells me that there is a code 43 error ( the device has reported problems so its not installed )
Can anyone suggest what I can do to get out of this fix ?
OsDoctor cannot see my device as its not recognised.
Many Thanks
S8utt
What rom are you running and what recovery CMW or TWRP.
I did have gingerbread installed and mboot etc.
In the process of trying to fix the dam thing I've probably made it worse as its completely reset ( no blue text on startup, or menu options to allow selection of what to boot )
The HP symbol just shows and it boots into WebOs
Gingerbread ? You must have done that ages ago. So it now just boots into webos , is recognized from there when you connect it to your PC if so what size is the TOUCHPADs drive showing as available /used.
Yes, I did the hack as soon as it came out and I hadn't touched it since. ( turned into the kids tablet, they complained that they couldn't install any games which is how the fun started )
So anyway, no the TP is not recognised, I get this popup as soon as I plugged the TP in

I have another Touchpad, and that connects fine to the computer, so I'm guessing its the Touchpad that's at fault, not the PC or drivers, I only hope its not beyond fixing.
I was hoping there maybe a WebOs app I could download ( like a terminal ), maybe there is a way of running some commands on the TouchPad directly ?

Have you tried this? Go to settings > storage and click on the 3 squares on the upper right corner. Then click on usb computer connection and make sure the MTP box is checked.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
My thoughts would be to use acmeuninstaller to hopefully remove the Android partition. Reboot and see what if any difference that makes. Before doing the above if you put it into recovery mode" power and volume up" is it recognized by either webos doctor and webos quick install ?
I haven't come across your problem before and would also suggest you give it a while to see if someone more knowledgeable than myself has any other suggestions . Meanwhile I'll put my thinking hat on.
MTP settings ? this is for Android yes ?
I don't have android on it anymore, just WebOs

Just to keep the info stream alive, even when I could boot into Android, I couldn't get it recognised (USB), so MTP option was not valid as it wasn't even seen.
I think the TP is broadcasting it has a problem which is preventing the Pc from connecting to it.

In webOs, install preware with WOSKI, as sstar wrote. There's an android remover that you can download and install from there. Run it. Install android using acmeinstaller3.

Nope, webos quick install doesn't see the touchpad, well I think it does but it does work due to this code 43 error

Good Day Guys!!,,
Disclaimer:
I can't be held responsible if your device explode in your hands! Try it at your own risk!
Just wanna share an easy guide on how to change on your Redmi Note connection to pc via usb mass storage instead mtp mode.
I find that mtp mode transfer file was very slow then usb mass storage.
Yes, root is needed.
You need Root Explorer or any other root file manager
*Open the apk and go to #root folder
data/property and open files persist.sys.usb.config open via text editor
edit from this : mtp,adb
to this : mass_storage,adb
save and delete persist.sys.usb.config.bak
Reboot/Restart.
Done.
Do the same thing later by change to default if you want back the mtp connection.
Now try to connect your Redmi Note to PC/Lappy and tell me the result.
Thanks for read and try.
Thank you, just tried, works great
If doesn't work, remove the ",adb" it work for me. thanks
one question. im able to set to mass storage but when i connect to PC, my internal just have read access no write access.
btw,im using Mokee rom based on CM11.
what if i want to connect it with a mac, can i do the same thing??
This is genius! Thank you!!!!!
I can't find persist.sys.usb.config.bak after editing.
I do not have such file in data/property
thanks.. worked well.. is there any way to view my internal storage in the same way, though?
work like charm.... thanks :good:

I tried this on Moto G (XT1032) running CM12.1 nightly 20150614. Unfortunately, after changing the file, rebooting and connecting to PC, I was told (by android) that the phone is connected in some "installation mode" - I could only choose MTP or Charging or PTP. Dmesg output was:
Code:
[150558.440041] usb 1-6: new high-speed USB device number 12 using ehci-pci
[150558.572493] usb 1-6: config 1 has no interfaces?
[150558.573119] usb 1-6: New USB device found, idVendor=22b8, idProduct=2e82
[150558.573122] usb 1-6: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
[150558.573125] usb 1-6: Product: Moto G
[150558.573128] usb 1-6: Manufacturer: motorola
[150558.573130] usb 1-6: SerialNumber: TA9290FUNK
I put the text MTP,ADB back into the file and rebooted. The phone was just charging from that moment, dmesg output was the same. I had to restore my backup.
I know this is supposed to work on Xiaomi Note, I just wanted to share.
Nice guide though!
Did that, but now my phone won't connect to my laptop at all. It only charges, but i can't connect to copy files. I reverted to mtp,adb but still it doesn't connect. What i do now?
EDIT: Working now, i left a blank space.
Usb driver not found error
I have followed the procedure but when i connect, it is searching for usb driver but not found.
"usb device No driver found"
I have installed MI PC suit also but no luck.
Please help me.

Same here also, the reason for this is that phone has no USB hardware ID that leads to PC not understanding what is being plugged in to it. Maybe there is some place this info could be modified

Can't get TouchPad to mount as UMS; also TP Toolbox won't run though it did before

Hi everyone,
So, I've got a windows 7 64 bit machine, and a 32 GB HP touchpad. A couple of years back, I installed JCSullins' Kitkat CM ROM... I think that's what it's called, anyway, it's been a while..
From what I remember, the install went off without a hitch - I got the novacom drivers, and then I ran the TP Toolbox which made the process quite easy.
Now I'm interested in tinkering with the touchpad more... possibly trying out a new ROM, or something like that.. but the problem is that I can't get the TP Toolbox to even start. When I run the batch file, I don't receive any error messages. The USB cable I'm using (which came with my old Samsung Galaxy S3) seems to be fine - I can use the TouchPad in windows explorer as an MTP device without any issues. Also, I don't think it's an issue with the novacom drivers, they seem to be working fine.
In addition to that, I can't get the storage to mount as a USB mass storage device... when I try to do this, I get an 'Unknown Device' showing up in Device Manager... I tried installing the generic USB Mass Storage driver to no avail. I also tried booting the device into TWRP and using the mount option in there but that didn't do anything that I could discern (mind you I wasn't looking too hard, I tried this before the other stuff I've already talked about, so it might be worth another shot I suppose).
And I do have developer options enabled, does this matter..? I can't remember whether I turned this on myself after installing CM Kitkat or if it somehow came already enabled (not sure if this is even a thing).
Thanks so much!

Read this guide and download the ISO, it will fix or get the Tablet all clean and ready to go:

Thanks very much for the helpful reply!
So, if I'm understanding this correctly.. Windows 7 has been updated since I last used the TP Toolbox, and the novacom drivers no longer function properly?
Does this mean that I won't be able to mount the Touchpad as a USB Mass Storage device? From looking at the top posts in that thread you linked me to, I see only an MTP option available for file transfer...
Also, the thing you posted seems to be a workaround for novacom drivers that don't function properly?
I tried what I was talking about in my initial post, mounting the device in TWRP, and this did work, though I was only able to see the recovery partition (which I guess is all that TWRP will load, makes sense in retrospect..). I was able to do this by installing the novacom driver when windows asked me to provide a driver after seeing the device booted into TWRP.
But that says to me that it isn't a driver problem, I think..? Thus that workaround seems unnecessary (sorry, not trying to be rude, I do appreciate the help regardless). Also the novacom driver does load up properly when I boot the device into the WebOS recovery mode.
I really would like to be able to have the device mount as UMS in Windows 7, if possible..
Edit: Also, forgot to mention that when I do try to load the TP toolbox, it does seem at some point to show the HP logo for some reason, which I think it's supposed to as it loads the toolbox..at least this happens when I try to run the batch file a second time after it fails to do anything the first time (not sure if this means anything at all..).
Thank you again!

The novacom driver works even in Windows 10, if the user know how to install it and use it properly.

The Tablet USB mass storage device can only be mounted ( and use) by booting into TWRP recovery or Android, not the USB symbol.

Did you see the instructions and Images? Even the Toolbox can be loaded.

Is a Linux boot disk with built in Novacom drivers, that will boot on any PC and allows to repair, load the Toolbox and do everything need it.
I tried what I was talking about in my initial post, mounting the device in TWRP, and this did work, though I was only able to see the recovery partition (which I guess is all that TWRP will load, makes sense in retrospect..). The novacom driver is only use to load uImages into memory, troubleshoot, it does not offer USB transfer.

If the user does not know how to load uImages into the Tablet, it does not matter if the novacom are working properly or not.
That is the reason of the Linux bootable CD, make it easier for those that have issues and are not technically incline.

The HP Logo will show before the Toolbox gets loaded into memory, then the print screen of all commands will show and finally the Toolbox loads.
Is impossible to provide technical support for issues relating to the novacom drivers on any PC with all the operating systems options available and the different configuration.
The bootable CD is available, just click and load anything to the touchpad, follow all the directions, read it all.
If the user try to take shortcuts, it will be a long way to accomplish nothing.
