Chromecast stopped changing input - Google Chromecast

My Chromecast recently stopped changing the input on my TV to the HDMI input the chromecast is connected to. Casting works, but I have to manually change input.
Chromecast will turn the TV on, but will not change the input.
I am using a Sony Bravia KDL-46HX701, casting from Android 4.4, and Windows 7.
My router is an ASUS RT-AC66U.

Make sure HDMI-CEC is enabled on your TV. Refer to the manual. Could be called something else.

I have a Sony Bravia also that had the same problem. When I added a new hdmi device, it stopped the chromecast from switching inputs. I unpluged the new device (a connector for my laptop) and the chromecast switched again. Unplug all hdmi cables from tv except chromecast and see if it switches. Then add cables one at a time. That is what worked for me. I hope it works for you!

that's it! the new cable box is interfering with the chromecast for some reason.
were you able to resolve the problem somehow, or did you just stop using the second device?

Typically the cable boxes hdmi ports are 'always on'. Basically the TV thinks there is always a signal there. Even when the box is off. If you have comcast and an 'X1' box those boxes never turn off even when you use the power button on the remote.

I just left the second device unplugged. I don't use it regularly. I am glad that worked!

It worked after I turned on Anynet+ on my Samsung TV (from 2009). I also had to move from the TV USB to an external USB Power (actually it's my Google TV that provides power) because when the TV is off, it does not power the USB port.
This is a brand new 2013 LG smart TV. I have turned on the SIMPLINK and the auto power on, and the chromecast is using its own powersupply. I also have a SIMPLINK blu-ray player and that works perfectly. When I use the blu-ray player remote it will turn on the TV and switch to the right channel. Same with the LG TV remote control it can turn off and on the blu-ray player. So the HDMI-CEC (SIMPLINK) is not the issue. It is Chromecast as far as I can tell. With the TV off, if I try to cast a youtube video, chromecast does not turn on the TV for some reason. If the TV is already on but in a different input, it does switch to the right input so part of the Chromecast HDMI-CEC is working. I'm at a loss here.
What version of firmware your chromecast uses?

That's interesting, because I have my Chromecast running off of USB power (from my TV's USB port), and it still turns on my TV and switches inputs automatically when it detects casting. For what it's worth, my TV is a cheap 32" Vizio smart TV (purchased earlier this year from Target).
Has anyone been able to plug it directly into their receiver and get it to turn it on?
Mine is working as advertised. Powered by AC.

I got mine to flip to the input when I started a YouTube. Still working with it to see what all can be automated.
Also no power without the USB.

I have a Monoprice 4 port HDMI switcher and the Chromecast is plugged into it. It keeps turning on the other TV. My wife thought we had a ghost.
My 5 yo Samsung 46in LCD detects it as an AnyNet device and switches inputs but won't power on. My 2 yo Insignia 24in powers on.
I think it all rests on age

Mine works and turns the TV on and even switches to the Chromecast input if I start a cast.
I have a 3 year old Sony 46EX710 with the Chromecast plugged into power using the USB port on the TV. It seems my TV powers the USB ports at all time, even if the TV is off.
It doesn't switch back to the last input or turn the TV off if I stop the cast though (I'm sure that has more to do with the TV than the Chromecast).
My Sony 40EX400 turns on when I have it plugged into the wall, but not when plugged into the USB port. (indicating the usb port does not provide power when the tv is turned off)
I dont believe usb ports receive power from tvs when the tv is off thus the reasoning that you need the wall outlet. I have setup 3 chromecasts and all require wall outlet power to turn on tvs, 2 samsung and 1 sony tv.
I've got a 2011 LG TV (simplink) that works with turning it on. However, my Vizio smart TV doesn't turn on. I need to do some more testing with the Vizio, because it would be handy if it turned it on.

That is interesting. Your USB ports must be powered all the time, even when your TV is off. What TV do you have.

Finally someone with an LG. I have a brand new LG 2013 47LA6200 smart TV and I still can not turn the TV ON (switches inputs just fine). I have both settings to ON for the SIMPLINK and AUTO POWER.
My Chromecast Firmware version is 12072 (you can see that on the Chromecast app). What is yours?
Mine has the same build number. My TV is the 47LW5600. Mine just worked without messing with any settings. Although, I've looked, and I can't seem to fine my simplink settings in the menus.
EDIT: Just realized that there's a simplink button on the stock remote that opens up the simplink menu. Only has options to turn off and on.

However, after the TV has been off for a long while, the Chromecast seems to shut off at some point, not sure at what point though. Oh well, I can live with that. My TV is usually on, even when I'm not watching it, for some kind of background noise, haha

I had to go into the CEC settings on my Vizio smart TV to make it work, but it now works perfectly!

I have turned CEC on in the settings. There's only an on/off option, and detect devices, which it does detect the chromecast. It switches inputs just fine, but won't turn on the TV. I've also tested my HDMI receiver, and it doesn't turn that on either. However, I know the receiver can be turned on via CEC because my TV is capable of turning the receiver on. Maybe an update will offer better CEC compatibility.
EDIT: My raspberry pi turns on my vizio TV when you power it on, so the TV is definitely capable of being turned on via CEC.

Just got Chromecast on Monday - some issues encountered so far

The setup was fine, connected to my network, played Netflix and Youtube from various devices (phone, laptop, computer) no problems! (Interested in the Plex thread and others on here for locally stored video.. )
What is happening is very strange, however. I have a TV with multiple inputs (typical these days, right?) but after I've been 'casting' to the Chromecast, it takes several tries to change away from that input to another input (my Xbox, or HD antenna).
ALSO - the TV powers itself ON after a while! WHY IS THAT? I left and came back home and thought I had left the TV on - which is not like me at all! And later that night it turned on AGAIN after I went to bed. I unplugged the Chromecast just to get it to stop, but ideally, I would want to leave it plugged in all the time.
What is making the TV turn on?
Will moving my TV input to anything other than the Chromecast port stop it?
Is there a soft power-off option for the Chromecast device?

Sounds like you're having issues with their chrome cast's HDMI CEC. It can be used to automatically change inputs to the one the chrome cast is using and even turn on tvs.
You could disable HDMI control for your TV and it would prevent the issues from occurring.
Every manufacturer has a different name for their HDMI Control feature.

I would suggest to just unplug the USB when not in use if your TV is turning on, I know my brothers TV its a westinghouse turns on anytime something connected to it turns on like the xbox or ps3 or laptop

It's a Toshiba flat-screen, don't know the model. I'll put more detail up tonight when I can look. :silly: I also need to try having it off the Chromecast and starting a session and seeing if it draws the TV to that input. THAT would be nice, but the auto-powering on is a bad bug in my opinion.
My TV turns on automatically when just about anything powers on before the tv is on. Say I turn my ps3 on 1st, it will turn it on. Or plug a USB Flash drive in, turns it on. But, once in the HDMI spot, I can shut it down and it stays off. Very strange.

Chromecast keeps turning my tv on

I have one TV in my house (Toshiba 55HT1U) that keeps getting turned on by the Chromecast. I turn the TV off, and then with a few minutes, the TV will be back on again. Unplug the Chromecast, and the TV stays off. I have tried multiple Chromecasts with the same results, I disabled Regza Link (Toshiba's HDMI-CEC), and it still keeps happening. This also happens whether the Chromecast is connected to my TV or to the receiver which is then connected to the TV. I have read where this particular TV suffers from this issue with other devices, but I wish there was a way to turn it off from the Chromecast end.
Right now, my solution is to go and unplug the Chromecast when I am not using it...hardly an elegant solution.
Have you check the manufacture website of your TV. I know some TV within the last few years, if it have a USB hook up, you can typically update the TV Firmware it may solve your problem. Just a shot in the dark. Also Chromecast is also getting an update.

I have seen where some people have tried the update and it made no difference, but I will definitely try this when I get home tonight.
Find your HDMI-CEC options (whatever Toshiba calls it) and turn on HDMI-CEC but turn off Auto power. That will allow HDMI-CEC to switch to the right input but will not allow the HDMI-CEC to auto power the TV.
I have the exact same problem with a Toshiba 46G300U1 so let me know if you find a solution. It seems like a bunch of the Toshiba's all have this problem and I doubt Toshiba is going to fix it. I've tried various different kinds of options (connecting the Chromecast through a cable, a HDMI switch etc.). As long as the Chromecast is switched on and connected to the TV it always turns on automatically. Obviously disabling HDMI-CEC doesnt seem to help. I suspect there is a bug in the Toshiba that still keeps acting on HDMI-CEC signalsI am planning to file a support case with Chromecast as they are more likely to fix the problem (maybe an option to disable CEC on the Chromecast) than Toshiba. But since that is unlikely I am thinking maybe I can try a cable that doesnt properly support HDMI-CEC. It seems CEC is a separate wire and there are lots of people online complaining about cables that don't support CEC.
Try not powering your device via USB from the TV. (If you are) My LG TV seems to have issues with CEC from devices that get power from it via USB. Does weird stuff like this
So I tried updating the firmware on my TV...they said just put the new firmware on a USB stick, then plug the stick into the TV and it will automatically prompt you to start the install. Well, it didn't. I tried 2 different USB sticks with no success.
My "fix" was to just power the Chromecast WITH the USB port on the TV. That way the Chromecast is off when the TV is, so it won't try to turn it back on.
Great idea. I am connecting my USB cable to the TV's USB port for now. I might try connecting the Chromecast via my audio receiver later on. FWIW the firmware update did nothing to solve the issue on my TV.
I don't want to disable CEC on my TV, because I'd still like to have the CEC capability to turn on/off my home theatre automatically along with the TV. I can use USB power from the TV to power my Chromecast, but once the TV is on, my home theatre mutes automatically because it gives up control of CEC to chromecast. It's an unfortunate software decision made by Sony, the maker of my home theatre. I want the home theatre speakers to stay active, but Sony has programmed it to mute when another device on the same HDMI bus takes CEC control.
If you don't want your Chromecast to be a CEC-control device, meaning you don't want it turning your set on at all, or you don't want it overriding other CEC devices, just order lindy-usa.com part number 711110-1, which is a HDMI CEC Less Adapter, Female to Male, and put it inline with your Chromecast. It disables the CEC sense line from your Chromecast to your TV. Problem solved. Neall

Chromecast to 60" lcd toshiba smart tv.

hey guys, just got my Chromecast and works perfect in my 40" tv. but when I plug it into my new 60" toshiba smart tv the screen image is there but the whole picture is pink/purple. any ideas?
Sounds like you have a bad HDMI port or TV.

I have a 55" Toshiba Smart Tv and I originally purchased the chromecast on the first day it went on sale, came home and found everything to be in shades of Pink/purple. I returned it thinking it was a problem with the device since I've never had any problems with HDMI ports on the TVs and just got another chromecast device today and the SAME THING HAPPENED! I've tried all ports and the chromecast does not work on any (my blu-ray and other HDMI connected devices work fine on all of them ). Please let me know if you find a solution.

If you have an HDMI audio receiver you can also just plug it into an HDMI port there too. I have mine plugged into my sony 7.2 receiver. Works fine, CEC and all.

I am also having this issue on my Toshiba Smart TV (Toshiba 47L6200U). Wanted to add that at one point I switched from USB power on the television to the wall charger, and the Chromecast went through an update during which time the progress wheel was in full color. Once it finished the picture then changed back to purple. Unfortunately I have no other devices to try to plug it into but there does appear to be a pattern with these sets.
Unfortunately I don't have a receiver and hadn't planed on getting one for this set up. I've never been able to connect the TV to the internet to perform any firmware updates so perhaps this may help? I'm really not sure. I also have seen that once it is updating - the rotating wheel is in the normal proper colors, however once it reverts back to the setup/welcome screen - it goes back to the shades of pink. I called up google and they said they've not heard of it so it seems to be a problem solely with the Toshiba XXL6200U series TV's. Have any of y'all performed the firmware updates?

Out of curiosity did you try the HDMI extender that came with your ChromeCast in case it is a connection issue?
I have the same TV, but have not received my chromecast yet. I'm wondering if it may be hdmi cec is off or on? I read up on this more and it may be the hdmi handshake that is causing the issue. It says to swap ends, try another cable etc.

I tried using the extender that came with it, and also another one I had laying around the house. Neither of them worked.
I'm not really tech savvy so not sure what CEC is or how to turn it on or off. Getting frustrated trying to do the firmware update as well. I connected a USB with the firmware update on the root menu but for some reason the TV isn't recognizing the usb.

Cec is in the TV settings. Menu (on remote ), preferences, hdmi cec control setup, turn it on and see what happens.

I have an old 2007 vintage Toshiba 37X3030DB. If you have the Chromecast plugged into HDMI-2 (Digital only port), select that as the input port, then power on the Chromecast, it completely works as expected. However, change back to HDMI-1, then back to HDMI2 using the Toshiba remote, you get a permanent blue screen - even though the Chromecast thinks it's working.
Placed a tech support call with Toshiba UK to see if updated firmware beyond 2.9 will help...
I have a 2006 Westinghouse (it was one of the very first 1080P TV available). I have had issues with Pink screen screen with various HDMI devices. Usually turning the TV off and back on will fix the pink screen, usually on the first try though not always.
With the Chromecast this seem to work, but not anymore. It may or may not have to do with the update to FW 13300, I can't say for sure. But sadly the pink screen is more persistent now.
My Chromecast is connected to my Pioneer receiver and I found that if s switch back and fourth with another input I can eventually get rid of the pink screen. I works best if I wait and let the input receive a signal and at time it does take me several attempts before it works.
So just something to try.
don't know if this is related, but sometimes when you have a loose connection on say a pc monitor you will get a pink screen, it could be that the connection to your guys tv isnt fitting all the way in, might want to take a closer look. it could be that the mini usb thats connected to the Chromecast is weighing down on the chromecast and making it loose and thus creating the pink screen, might wanna look closer at the connection.
im trying to cast from computer.. chromebrowser, has worked perfect earlier. but now the picture is pink.. sounds work good... the chromecast background pictures shows fine when not casting anything...
If I use the built in cast option in youtube.com it was great.. but not when casting the whole page in chromebrowser..
i have a really bad connection at home, but it has worked on that before

This is my exact issue.
It isn't the HDMI port, it isn't faulty, or else every device would show the pink hue. The dongle itself isn't broken or else everything would be pink and not just tabs that are cast, like cowsick said, Youtube casts perfectly, just any other tabs.
Kinda blows, worked fine previously, an no one anywhere seems to be addressing the issue.

It isn't the HDMI port, it isn't faulty, or else every device would show the pink hue. The dongle itself isn't broken or else everything would be pink and not just tabs that are cast, like cowsick said, Youtube casts perfectly, just any other tabs.
Kinda blows, worked fine previously, an no one anywhere seems to be addressing the issue.

Green, gray or magenta are often the sign of decoding "nothing" meaning the data didn't reach the destination in time.
I would look to network latency caused by network congestion between the PC and Chromecast (on a bandwidth-limited connection, or are there other network transfers going on in the background?) and to transcoding latency on the computer casting to Chromecast (how busy is the CPU?). Try reducing the resolution via the Cast extension settings.
For direct casting to Chromecast via native apps, Chromecast can buffer and negotiate connection speed as necessary. When it's getting a tab casted over, there's a constant stream of frames being generated, compressed and sent over that need to be decoded - all in reasonable sync with the PC.
For example, in the case of MPEG-2 for DVD, there are Presentation TimeStamps (PTS) and Decode TimeStamp (DTS). PTS determines when a frame should be display (ie, 0:09;13 should be displayed 9 seconds, 13 frames in) while DTS determines when the frame's data need to be retrieved and decoded. If a frame can't be retrieved by the decode time (for example, because of a disc read error) usually the player will simply hold the previous frame, so you'll see a pause. But if the player actually tries to decode the data (for example, in a video editing program), you can see a frame of mainly or solid green, gray or magenta - an empty frame caused by decoding "nothing."
RojasTKD and BurnOmatic are right that a similar effect can be seen if HDCP handshake is broken or interrupted - there's a "garbage" screen that appears until HDCP re-synchronizes, but as andres2163 and cowsick say, if that was the case it should happen for any Chromecast output, not just tab casting.
Fix: disable hardware accelaration
Disabling hardware acceleration fixes the issue.

BubbleUPnP Update

What happened? I decided to try to play video content with the one video that I had no problem. On my Samsung TV got a popup stating that a AllShare device was detected, I click okay, video plays in like a player window format, I back out to folders from my tablet showing! My source shows AllShare BubbleUPnP device. Confused but happier!

The new Koushcast? No, I read that Chromecast support was removed.
I think I know what happened. I have a Samsung WiFi adapter plugged in but have used it on a old laptop and it was plugged into USB port that might be a service port or whatever. I discovered that since using AllCast and never tried it again since. BubbleUpnP is just using WiFi to stream although I couldn't get back to my folder with the videos unless I used AllCast to start a video.
I've tried BubbleUPnP in the past but remember next to nothing! Navigating folders on the TV is a PITA, I do remember that.
The author of BubbleUPnP did mention supporting Chromecast in the future. At first I thought that they did, my mistake. Make that two mistakes!
I powered down/up, I was able to play compatible videos with the Chromecast that start with a good delay without using BubbleUPnP just AllCast. Videos that don't play with Chromecast from an Android device won't play using Chrome on a PC either nor cast.
Compatible videos is the key to success.
Interesting! I was hoping you had magically solved Android screen mirroring with Chromecast - my TV is too old to support DLNA video, only pictures and music.

I may have had my Samsung WiFi adapter plugged into the right USB port after all! I tried to access my PC from the TV and I had no connection because the setup was changed from a wireless connection back to wired again. This means that the use of BubbleUPnP, Allcast or Chromecast hoses the setup. I tried to use each one but couldn't get it to repeat. Some TVs comes with WiFi built in, I wonder if this is a issue with them or just because in my case, I was using an external WiFi adapter?
BubbleUPnP updated for the second time today, must have introduced a bug earlier.

Chromecast has its own wireless connection to your wireless router or access point, so I can't think of a reason why Chromecast would have any interaction with the TV's network connection.
Am I following you correctly that you have a wired network connection on your TV and the wireless USB adapter connected to your TV, and both are connected? If the wired connection on the TV is hooked up there should be no need to have the WiFi adapter as well, unless you have a really complicated network setup.
As long as both the TV and your DLNA source are on the same network, doesn't matter whether one is wired or the other is wireless. Unless something like AP isolation keeps the wireless clients from "seeing" the wired clients (uncommon), or the wired and wireless networks are on different subnets (rare).
tl;dr - try unplugging either your TV's WiFi adapter or the network cable on the TV. Do whatever is necessary to make the single connection work - and then try everything else. Everything should work.

Yes the Chrome cast has its own WiFi connection.
I have either the wired or wireless option but there is no wired connection to it that's why I had to get the Samsung WiFi adapter.
I was able to switch back/forth several times between DLNA(BubbleUPnP), TV WiFi and Allcast without losing any of them. I have no idea how or why but it did happen "once" or actually "twice".

Ahh okay, I misunderstood. I thought your TV had a wired connection too.
It's possible the Chromecast and Samsung WiFi adapter are too close and therefore causing signal interference, so the Samsung WiFi adapter might have went back into a disconnected mode and the TV wanted it set up again. *shrug*
Worst case you could get a USB or HDMI extension cable, I guess. I have a ~10-foot HDMI extension cable on my Chromecast because it's connected to my sound bar's I/O box. At first it was to troubleshoot the Internet connectivity problems I was having (which were fixed with update to 13300), then I decide to leave it as it's much more convenient to access my Chromecast when I don't have to contort myself behind stuff, heh.

Just got my HDMI 90 adapter today, see what happens next to me?
The Samsung adapter is no cheapy from what I've read about it. No PC drivers for it but I researched its chip and managed to hack a INF for use on my old XP laptop, IIRC it comes up as a Linksys device.
