[Q] Do you think the N6 will release on VZW before 12/31/14? - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So VZW is offering a 2 line plan, 10gb to share, unlimited t+t, for $80 (and my employee discount will make it even cheaper) until December 31st! My gf and I are going to go in together to get this since we each pay around $70-$80 for 2gb plans already. Only problem is I have to upgrade my phone before I switch or I will lose my upgrade eligibility. I hate all the other phones out right now and really want a N6.
So I ask my fellow XDA members to speculate whether or not the N6 will be available on VZW before 12/31/14. I know there is no date set, im just looking for some opinions.
TIA and I hope some of you get the same deal as was offered to me. BTW on the commercial it says that the 10gb share plan is $110 but when I called to ask they said it was only $80.

When you sign up for the new service, won't you be able to get two devices at the upgrade-subsidized price anyway?

No because my GF and I are combining plans and she just got an upgrade a month ago.

My guess is no, but there's nothing close to concrete yet.

No one knows. You can guess as well and have a 50/50 shot at getting it right just like everyone else...

Pretty sure the $80 is just the data portion. You'll need to tack on $40 per device on top of that.

Did Verizon change how family plans work? I thought that if you sign up for two lines, you get to buy two devices at the on-contract price. Since your GF is not eligible for an upgrade, you should still have one line left that is eligible to purchase at the on-contract price?

I think it will. Probably right before Christmas. They want the droid turbo to get all the attention before they put out the Nexus 6.

Or just get a new iphone with your upgrade and sell it on craigs list or ebay and use the money to buy a nexus 6 off contract from google or moto ect and use that on verizon.

if you dont care much about custom ROMS or root , pick up the droid turbo, I play with one for a bit from a friend, is a SICK device 3900mah battery, 805 chipset, 5.2 qhd display and stock android with moto futures, cant go wrong with it

Droid Turbo sucks IMO, no SD Card and ugly as hell. Also I have a bad feeling the Dev community will be small. No thanks, i'll pass. This is my chance to get a Nexus device on VZW, im all for it and will wait as long as I have to.
Dont want to turn this thread into a device conversation. Im just looking for opinions on whether or not ppl think the N6 will drop before 12/31/14 so I can get that sweet deal.

According to the specs I've seen, the Nexus 6 won't have an SD card slot either, have you heard differently?
My opinion is the Nexus 6 will be available easily before 12/31/2014.

No it wont have an SD card slot BUT it does come in a 64gb option unlike the DT.

The Droid Turbo DOES in fact come with a 64gb option as well....

What? I was just at the store and they said only 32gb. Maybe he meant they only had 32gb in stock. I stand corrected, thanks!

I have it on good authority that Verizon will see the Nexus 6 before 12/31/15. Not sure about 12/31/14

:\ LOL

Just got back from my local VZw store (Corporate location 42nd st NYC) and received some bad news. I know, I know, CSR's suck and never know what they are talking about. That being said I kinda know one of the guys that work there, he's pretty much who I talk to every time I go to the store. He's pretty good with the info he gives so I trust him. He said VZW has no plans to release the N6. FML. He said he spoke with a bunch of higher ups because ppl kept coming in/calling about the N6 and none of them had any idea that VZW was even gonna carry it. He said there's no chance it comes out this year. If it comes out at all it would be closer to spring of next year. I hate VZW so much......
My question now is, if Best Buy will have stock this week why cant we buy from them and activate it on VZW? I know BB has VZW phones so what would stop them from selling me and activating a N6 on VZW?

Man that hurts the soul! Hopefully I can take my G Play Pre ordered N6 and activate by just taking the micro sim out of the ol M8 and profiting? I spoke with a play store rep in the Nexus threads that he assured that my N6 would work out of the box with VZW when I received it? Crossing fingers

I would think if it wasn't going to be available on vzw, moto wouldn't have wasted time/resources to get all the vzw network bands built in.

Should I Sell My Nexus One?

I got this Nexus One by trading my G1 and $125.
Am currently on T-Mobile - contract up in March 2010
Ive been getting quite a few offers for my Nexus.
- Two people on craigslist are asking 300-350.
My phone is literally 10/10 condition and comes w/
everything , casemate case.
You think I should sell it for 300-350 now?
Should I wait till March 2010 when my contract is up? or do you guys think it will drop in resale value way more by then.
also do you think 300-350 is fair if cash is given

Do you need the money? Do you really want to sell it?
Only way I would sell my Nexus One is if I needed the money and I had another Nexus One already to replace it.
If you like the phone and don't need the money then why sell it?
Not a lot of better devices right now. Would hold on till contract ends or if something u like shows up. But it really depends on u'r needs: money, etc...
Practically all new androids are better than it. Choose wisely.

I am in a similar position, been offerend 350CDN for my Nexus but there really aren't any other phones out there that offer anything substantial over it to sell it... I like the Galaxy S, but until it is officially on Froyo it seems to buggy and really only has the bigger screen as the biggest reason to upgrade. I'm holding off until there is a substantial reason to upgrade.

I dunno guys, I love my Nexus too but I'd sell it if I could use an EVO or a Droid X on GSM I think. The screen pisses me off to end on the N1 the lack of accuracy, the effed up multitouch and the horrible performance of the screen in sunlight drive me crazy. This is an amazing phone but HTC had to go and screw up the whole package by choosing a ****ty screen. Coming from an iPhone 3GS I can tell you that this screen is by no means at par

Gladly! New androids as in practically every android made after the Nexus One.
Verizon - Droid X, Droid 2, Droid Incredible, HTC Merge, Droid R2D2, & Samsung Fascinate
Sprint - Evo 4g
Tmobile - HD2, Samsung Vibrant (if you can stand touchwiz) & G2
And these are the phones that I can think of off the top of my head. If you want to check out the European phones: Desire, Desire Z, Desire HD.
So to reiterate, yes the Nexus One was a good phone, very nostalgic, set the tone for the new devices that came out. But with that being said, the new devices that came out are better than the Nexus One. So read up, pick one you like, and either sell the N1 or hold onto it for sentimental value.

i don't really understand caring about wether or not you're on a contract. put the SIM in and use whatever phone. surely you're not considering LOCKING YOURSELF into another 2 or 3 year commitment for the sake of a $4-500 phone ?
as far as all those being better, the hardware specs are very similar. the carriers... oh man, CONTRACTS ! no thank you. i'll stick with the tmo pay-to-play non contract.

The no contract route is pretty cool. If there was a possibility of me leaving Tmobile, I'd go contract free. Since I know I'm not going anywhere, I apted to sign the contract.

Yea. Before I paid Google 500+ I did my research about my nexus, and the math. Figured up over 2000+ dollars saved over two years using voip and Google voice, so I bought my nexus flat out and have been smiling since. Benchmark test wise I'm still over the Droid X and along with evolution I don't like the size. The g2 has 800 MHz =( and I don't use QWERTY or HDMI out. So a year after the purchase I would make it again today =)
N1 running psfreedom recovery and MIUI! sent via XDA app =D
All those phones mentioned have identical processors. Nothing running 1.3-1.5 ghz out yet. From what the news was saying is that towards the end of this year and begging of next we will have faster processors on smart phones.
I'd say hold off on selling your nexus or if you do, you aren't really getting anything better spec wise, maybe design is what you are looking for.

Keep the Nexus !
If you are wanting to stay with a certain carrier, your Android choices can tend to become very limited. I've been with Tmobile for years, happy, not moving.
My phone choices.... I dont really see any phones offered yet as being worth
signing another two year contract for.
I mean nothing fantastically better that my Nexus.
Heres what I mean, two years ago I was on the original G1 prebuy.
The Nexus is very drastically better than the G1.
I just dont see the TMO phone thats drastically better than the N1.
And if you have a Nexus then you have TMO or AT&T and AT&T's Android phone selection is worse than TMO's.
I'm holding pat especially since the N1 gets the updates months before any other phone does.
MyTouch was supposed to get Froyo "soon", and months have gone by, still no update.
Its almost like TMO would rather just keep everyones attention on its once a month new phone release than update the older phones.
When I do get a new phone I will keep the N1 till I'm sure the new one is better.
I've yet to see that phone though.
^ very true.
What also worries me is that none of the announced phones that are due to be released in this Q of the year are a whole lot better than Nexus One.
But as someone else said, I love my N1 except for the screen. The screen pisses me off so much!!
The G2 and the new mytouch are good replacements for the N1 in my opinion. Granted I'm not too impressed with the new mytouch overall design, nevertheless, the specs are nice and the FFC is a plus.

Just ordered a Galaxy Nexus

G2x was a great phone, and despite LG's various fails it was corrected by our devs. But, as a fandroid, you have that little voice in the back of your head making your life miserable when there is a nexus annouced, or even better hardware for that matter.
I just bit the bullet and ordered an unlocked GN. $696 and some change, including shipping and bank fees. God help me, this android addiction is getting out of hand
It's the GSM flavor, imported of course. Who want's to deal with Verizon and the mockery they have made of the Nexus brand? F*ck you Verizon, Google - I am disappointed in you for being Verizon's B*tch The European GN is the true Nexus.
Any other fandroids out there want to join me?
MOD EDIT: REMOVED LINK
It is just a pre-order for now, but stock is expected in 2 days. And if your cautious, handtec is a reputable vendor, pay with Google Checkout and your butt should be covered

I paid around $600 (after tax and all that) for my Vibrant off contract. The fact that this is penta-band and allows you to use it with any carrier is definitely a plus and if you pick good no-contract plans, you can easily come out way ahead of getting a subsidized phone on contract.

I wont make the same mistake again, i will wait a couple of months after it comes out, see development, then maybe buy one. Got g2x on 4/20 early in the morning and even tho i got a good phone, NVIDIA (dumb asses) really are holding devs down.

I was going to make fun of you for having an EDGE only phone.. then I looked at the 4g icon on my G2X which equates to EDGE speeds despite claiming to be connected to 4g....
Can I have your old G2X? Mine got scratches on the screen on day 2
The way it works is you sell the G2x for $200. Use the money and pick a contract phone with high resell value. Sell it for the price of the Nexus. Live happily.
The G2x is still sweet. But I'll probably pick a Nexus up on Verizon through work to save from paying a personal cell. Depends on development and issues. I'm still torn.

Cheapest way to go from iPhone5 to HTC one?

I have a iphone 5 black 16gb with att, but want to move to an HTC One.. Im still within contract with att and dont qualify for early upgrade.. I know i can try to trade it, or try to sell my iphone and then just buy the HTC One..
But is there a trick going around??
Like i know when the iphone 5 there was a trick to get att to refund the early activation fee, etc.. I see there are alot of trade programs and what not..
In the case that there are no trick.. is the best price for a HCT one directly from them? I see they have it for $574 unlocked.. It doesnt have to be unlocked but directly from Att is like $599

Sell iPhone for absurd profit and buy the One from AT&T unsubsidized. Your cost should be about the same as buying the One on subsidy. I say buy from At&T for their warranty.
You won't pay an activation fee, that's only on devices bought on subsidy.
If you can get your iPhone 5 unlocked it will net you even more on selling it.

It's all preference. I go through 2-3 phones a year because I'm an addict ( I usually have 2 phones at a time). I always say if you are waiting for the best phone to be released you'll never by a phone.
As for the warranty that really depends on if he has an extra warranty. I would check the HTC website to see if it's only valid for the original purchaser, at the vary least ask if he can provide proof of purchase in case of a warranty issue.
Not sure if im better off selling my iphone cash for like $500 i think thats what they are worth, and buy a brand new phone that i know the warranty will be on my name or just trading it...
Also i mentioned the New nexus since i think it will come out soon (not sure)

It might not be a bad idea to sell it for cash and order the dev edition off of HTC or something like that... lucky Americans....

As far as I know the price is cheaper. I live in Canada so you may want to check but if I'm not mistaken the dev edition is $575 for a 64GB version while if you buy it from AT&t its $650....
I don't think the S4 Google edition is a true nexus. Though I guess it is I would expect a true nexus this fall from google, and not just an ASOP version of an existing phone. If nothing else a true nexus is available world wide.

That's not the new nexus. That is just the galaxy s4 running stock aosp, just like HTC is doing with the one.

Nexus 6 - still worth it?

Android - I'm coming home! Now to find a phone.
Been looking at the Nexus 6 pretty hard. I don't want LG, and I refuse to pay premium prices for a Haiwei crash-o-matic piece of junk.
Spent some time at Best Buy today fondling a Nexus 6 - love the screen, love the feel, love the speed.
So, nearly a year after it's release, is it still worth it? Thinking about doing another 2 year with AT&T, which would make it $149, or $349 outright through Best Buy.
THoughts?
Plain and simple: Yes

Its as cool to have as an Indialantic beach!
People are still happy with their Nexus 4's for that matter, so I'd say yes, it's still worth it for the next 2 years. Although personally I despise 2 year contracts.
Most definitely. I have a Galaxy S6 and this thing blows it out of the water, except the camera. Way faster, much more support, better battery life.. Although I figured I'd get more than what I do. I'm keeping my eye out on the upcoming Nexus(es) but I have a feeling I'll stick with this and the S6 for awhile.
BTW I just purchased this about a month ago from Swappa. Couldn't stand being locked down with the S6 anymore.

Traded my G4 for a nexus and its so much better so YES ! Great screen, speakers and performance !! I will never use a skinned Android phone again !

Hmmmm... I just looked at the AT&T website - it was there last night, not there this morning.
I hope this doesn't mean they pulled it.
If they did my only hope is that they make the Moto X Pure available, but I am doubtful.

Get the unlocked version! That way you have options. IMO, over the next 2-5 years, we are going to see major changes in the way cellular, and probably all technology, services are handled. It would suck to be locked in for the next 2 years.
Im on Straight Talk for $50 a month and using AT&T towers in my area w/ 4g LTE. Unlimited everthing Full speed up to 5g and throttled after that. Unless you are grandfathered in on some amazing deal, being locked in always favors the carrier.
BTW, Best Buy has 6 month interest free financing.

I want the unlocked one, but funding is tight... plus so is the wife's purse LOL
She controls the money in the house so I play by her rules - happy wife, happy life!
Regarding the financing, I tried already - because I had a bankruptcy in the past 3 years Best Buy won't give me any credit (even though every other bank in the free world seems to be throwing it at me!)
My wife about cut me when I ordered our Nexus 6's because of the price haha! But now that she has one I doubt she'll let me get her out of the Nexus lineup from here on out. The Nexus community doesn't seem to die out like our devices often do. The hardware really isn't that dated. I admit the camera is a bit lacking on this device. Finding a case can be a challenge if you're a destroyer of phones like myself. But the speed, screen and speakers on this phone are amazing!
Case wise I had to get a unicorn beetle. It has saved my phone twice now.
I contacted AT&T via Facebook - all they could tell me is that it wasn't available right now - which doesn't necessarily mean that they will not have it again, just that it's not available NOW. Go figure...

New Nexus is coming out later on this month or next month. It's made by Huawei. Guess AT&T have just unloaded all their old stock. Amazon and ebay sellers are doing the same.

Was at the T-MOBILE store when...

I was at the T-MOBILE store today in NY inquiring about the S7 edge when a gentle walked in and asked if they were still selling the note 7. To my surprise the employee said yes. She did tell him to not let it charge past 60% and if it feels like it's over heating that he can bring it in and exchange if for another phone.
I wanted to get the note 7 but amid this disaster regarding the second recall I thought it was irresponsible for T-Mobile to sell any more of them. Have we been so brainwashed by the media that the battery exploding is only happening to a small percentage of the note 7 out in the wild. When he asked and she said yes, I'll admit I was tempted to see if I could be one of the lucky ones to get a non defective note 7 bit then i came back to reality and said the headache is not worth the reward.
What gives T-MOBILE and why don't you have the damn pixel in your store? You know sometimes I wonder! It would've been a perfect landing spot regardless of what happened to the note 7!

That T-Mobile employee was probably just an overworked, underpaid, and uninformed sales clerk. He/she could care less if you got a Note 7 or not.
The Pixel is a Verizon "exclusive". That's how the carrier system works in the US and it sucks. The rest of the world has electronic stores like Best Buy or OEM stores like Apple/Samsung/Microsoft where you can get your phones without dealing with carriers. You just buy a SIM of whichever carrier you want and pop a sim in, or you go into a carrier store to get your line, and they have no way to dictate to you what phones you can use.
Your probably right about there clerk but I hope the person who wanted is aware of what's happening, how could he not be. Also, I know I can take a Google purchased pixel and use it at T-MOBILE but it just seemed like the logical carrier that it should be on given how rapidly TMo has grow in the last few years. So would tmo sell the now 7 if someone wanted it? Would there be support for it?

This ^&%$$%^ sucks man. Really sucks. I love my Note 7 but at this point I now feel I no longer have a choice now but to return it. Just heard the news about the DOT that there is a full ban now. You can be jailed and even fined now for trying to travel with it

The pixel appears to be a tesla exclusive in Australia. Also you can buy unlocked phones at Best buy stateside. Or Amazon, or eBay, or expansys usa, the list goes on.

The note 7 isn't for sale, did you see the purchase from beginning to end?
That sales person seems like an idiot because the Note 7 has been a huge goat rope for every carrier, if they don't know by now they shouldn't be selling it they might need a new line of work.
I did not see the sale I was just listening. I don't know if it happened to be honest with you.

I've only been on T-Mobile for a couple of months but I don't see any history of them carrying the Nexus phones.

They carried the nexus 4. Also charged 150 more than the Google play store but you could pay on installments

I read somewhere recently where the exclusive Verizon has to the Pixel may be short lived. I don't know that's because Google sees an opening with the Note 7 debacle to get their phone a broader customer base or whether that was part of the original agreement.
I'm keeping my Note 7 until at least the V20 comes out. It's the closest thing feature wise to the Note 7. I'd go Pixel in a New York minute if it had SD card capability.
Yeah I think I'm going with the V20. I just don't see the justification on spending $900 on the pixel right now. I'm going to wait for the 2nd pixel. Maybe TMo will cough up the loot to get it in there stores.

Yeah im still pondering on the Pixel but the new name doesn't fool me. Never been super happy with Nexus batteries or cameras and every nexus phone had the best camera ever if you asked Google. Much like they are saying with the Pixel now.
Problem is unless you preorder you have to buy the 120 vr. I also need Wi-Fi calling at home :-/
I'd give up my card for a 128gb phone. I'm interested in the battery on the LG though.

I've got over 128 GB of music on that free 256 GB card that I got with the Note 7. With the V20 and it's supposed audio quality, I could load more .flac music up.
Then again, I could keep the S7 Edge they sent me as a loaner for the first recall. It shows as paid up on the T-Mobile website. It would work with the VR I claimed as part of that deal. Then again, I don't have the morals of an alley cat.

Might as well get an iPhone, they're doing the same thing: Charging too much (price) for too little (features). No way I'm buying that crap!

Yeah man, I'm looking at what is offered and for that price I got so much more on the N7 and it's depressing. Also why the hell would you only offer 32 and 128gb.
The price makes it very hard to justify.
